A friend who lives across the street at Canvas been telling me about this place for months now.  I doubted the existence of such a place until I saw it with my own eyes, and after yelping this place I realized she might actually be on to something.
Like previous posts have said, tacos are $1 and bacon "death" dogs are $1.50. The tacos are of the smaller tortilla variety, but it is more than made up for with the amount of meat. I tried the asada, pollo, pastor, and chorizo. I'll leave the buche and lengua for another time when I'm feeling a little more adventurous. There's a great spread of hot sauces and accoutrements on the accompanying table, salsas roja and verde, radishes, onions, cilantro, etc. No gastrointestinal problems to speak of the next morning, meaning I'll definitely be going back.
Open from 8pm to 2am, I now know where I'll be going after USC football games and any drunken downtown nights.

I used to live across the street. Ate this multiple times a week....

Their tacos are $1 and they have a good deal of meat in them. The meat itself has always been tasty.... But you know what makes this literally my favorite taco place? Their hot sauce... It is literally the BEST!!

I need to go back soon... *drool*

This place is GREAT.  The tacos are $1 and the bacon wrapped hot dogs are about $1.50.  Apparently Mr. Kike's has been doing pretty well since he actually purchased himself a new taco truck.  I've been coming here so often I know I've at least contributed to the doors on his new truck...

Like the other posts have mentioned, he has a pretty good selection of meats with various salsas, onions, and parsley on the side.

Is it clean?  Well...not really.  They handle things w/ their hands and I've seen them drop their cooking utensils on the floor, pick them up, and continue cooking.  In fact...this happened while he was making my specific tacos.  Did I still eat it?  Yes I did!  Was I ever intimate w/ the porcelain throne after a Kike's meal?  Nope...not one bit!...(but to be fair...I have a South East Asia street food stomach of steel if you know what I'm saying.)

For those coming for the first time, don't confuse Kike's w/ the other taco truck just a block down the street (they're not as good).

Parking: you can actually just park in the lot where he sets up shop. There are always spots available so it shouldn't be a problem.

The sole point of Kike's existence was their incredible chicken tacos. They made you forget why you never order chicken tacos. Kike has corrected this by changing the recipe in order to convince you that you were, in fact, correct to not order chicken tacos this whole time.

Why the change? Well, Kike got a truck to go behind the stall, which sells--not joking--ramen and chips. I fear Kike had to put up his soul and chicken recipe as collateral in order to get this truck, so determined was he to be part of LA's food truck movement. Lame Kike. Lame.

An unusual location (a parking lot outside of downtown) with great quality.  While I usually don't eat here due to vegetarianism, I made an exception while my sister was visiting LA and asked for a taco truck experience.  While not a truck,  its still great street food.  She loved the selections of salsas and toppings (fresh limes, avacado slices, chile verde).  We both loved the tasty and greasy flavor of the meat (pollo for me, al pastor for her).

Perfect for late night food after a show or a night out unless you are vegetarian.

Mike F. brought me here and I was surprised that these guys just set up their grills and a few tables in an obscure parking lot. Tacos were smallish, but tasty.  The bacon-wrapped hotdog was awesome. I'll be back.

Love the concept.  Cheap food, random location, especially after leaving the artificial LA Live.  And after seeing a mix of people coming off their shifts and girls ready to hit the town (or having just finished doing so...) I wondered... did I just miss this place?

Well, unfortunately I can't tell you about the food because EVERYTHING has meat.  J got the asada and chorizo tacos, and at $1/pop are quite the bargain... except he complained of the greasiness and, um, digestion.  They also have tongue, throat, pastor, and pollo tacos in addition to bacon wrapped hot dogs, which sound both wrong and amazing.

So the name of the truck kinda offended my people, but I was more offended for being unable to eat anything (not counting some knock-off ho hos).

Kike's has upgraded to a shiny new "roach coach".  I haven't had the chance to grub on some tacos, but I did see him on his perch when I drove through Downtown the other day.  I'll definitely have to swing by and pick up some al pastor tacos when I'm shit hammered.

I live a block away from this place and I saw this business grow so fast within a span of a few short months. At first many downtowners were hesitant of this taco joint that is conveniently located on 2nd and Beaudry (great location for exposure though). It looked super shady and unconvincing. But more and more students who were pulling all nighters and drunken bar-goers warmed up to Kike's tacos, gave it a try and spread the news to their friends and colleagues.

And boy are their tacos good! You can tell that each taco is made with love and attention...taste them and you will believe me. The meat was good and so were the seasonings. You can find a variety of tacos (a dollar each!!)  from tongue to chorizo. I personally recommend the chorizo, I love them the most out of everything in the menu.

Kike's tacos have successfully grown into a downtown favorite taco joint. I won't be surprised if their business will continue to grow to become an actual restaurant or permanent stall in the next few years!

I have watched Kike expand over the past year and I am simply amazed by how fast he's grown into a "full-time" establishment. I live about a block away so the bf and I have frequented his business on several late night occasions.

Sure, his tacos are cheap. At $1/pop, you can fill the average person with a mere $3. But if you really take time to look at what you're eating, it's a totally different story. Maybe it's because I'm really picky when it comes to the quality of my meat but Kike's Tacos are primarily composed of fat. When I'm looking for a quality taco, I'm looking for something that is at least 80/20 meat to fat ratio... here it's about 50/50. Juicy? Yes, but it doesn't make me feel like I'm eating something worth the $1. Also, Kike pre-makes his meat (which is totally understandable) and freezes it. You can see him chipping away at his block of meat during the late nights. What really disturbs me about this is what he does with his leftover meat. I mean, does he refreeze it and then break it out the next night?

I guess that's what you're bargaining for when you're only paying $1 for a taco and all the great condiments like BEANS he serves up. Make sure you come early to get the beans!!

One thing I must commend him on though is his consistency. My bf and I always comment on how solid he is: 830pm you'll see him setting up shop and working until the late hours as opposed to Mexi-Cali, his fellow competitor, just one block away.

Who knows, at Kike's rate he might just open up shop in the next year or so. I mean -- he already has chairs and tables set up now and works on an honor basis (you pay after you eat if you dine there). He's so down the cops are even swinging by to grab a late night bite. Crazy but I give him mad props! Would I ever grave Kike's? Probably not, but it's definitely nice to know he exists and is only a short walk away from home :)

Who needs to go to TJ when these tacos are just a few blocks away from the best bars in downtown LA?

My whole life (okay, maybe only the last few years), I've been on a quest to find Tijuana style tacos this side of the border--and i'll tell you, this is as good as it gets. $1 a taco, $1 a drink, not to mention $2 bacon wrapped hot dogs???

Each taco is basically two heated corn tortillas topped with a generous portion of meat (chicken, chorizo, carne asada, al pastor etc). After you've got your plastic tray full of tacos, you can choose from a variety of toppings at the "salsa bar" with chopped onions, parsley, three different kinds of salsa, and utensils etc.

Tex Mex joints like El Cholo or Acapulo's (yuck) have a thing or two to learn, because the flavor and seasoning of these tacos really can't be beat. Who needs to go to a restaurant to serve up street food tacos, when it's better (and cheaper) out on the corner?

Kike's may be a bit hard to find, because it's literally just two guys with some folding tables and a work lamp on the corner, but it's well worth the drive even if you're not in the area.

If you're looking for a late night snack after a night out downtown, be sure to get there on the earlier side, because they close-up shop at midnight on weekdays, and around 1ish on weekends (sometimes later if there's a line).

These guys are just down the street from my boyfriend's apartment, so convenience is definitely a factor here. Like most street food/stands it's gonna look sketchy but the tacos are definitely not lacking in taste! The grill kind of looks like it's been in use forever and I have a sneaking suspicion the reason the meat tastes so good is that it's absorbing the flavors and bits and pieces of meat cooked years ago. I don't care, because it still tastes good... probably makes it taste even better.

My favorite meat is al pastor. The asada is good, but not as flavorful as the al pastor. All the condiments are lined up on a table. Drinks are in a cooler. A week or two ago I saw he had some avocados and I got excited because I thought there would be guac, but I didn't find any. The best part about Kike's is the price. You really can't beat $1 for a taco or a soda/bottled water or $2 for a bacon wrapped hot dog. I've been to other places where the hot dogs were double that at $4. What a rip-off!

It's weird but I also like that you'll find all kinds of people there--the post-clubbing crowd, the people who live nearby, the people who drove past, the foodies, etc.

I have a soft spot for family-run businesses with good service, so definitely check them out. They are nice, friendly and serve up good food for cheap! What's not to like? The only reason I haven't given them a 5 is because I've only tried about 4 or 5 different taco places. Obviously LA has a bajillion different places ot get tacos so I don't have more places to compare them to. Also, once you find the place, you don't have to worry about parking because the stand runs from a parking lot not used at night.

The only reason why we stopped here was a UYE here for a taco eating contest. At least it was supposed to be a part 2 that was happening. It's in this small parking lot off of Temple and Beaudry. It's here when it's dark. Waiting for the host to arrive by bicycle took a little while. So we all took it upon ourselves to start ordering as the feast and carnage begins.

Imagine a grill you put on a metal rack, rigg up some lights and hook a propane tank up to it. You got yourself a little taco stand. You can sort of see it off the freeway but don't crash trying to find it. The meat was descent but I still have my favorites to turn to. One good thing I do like about here is the cook will grill up some onions for you and mushrooms upon request as condiments to go with your tacos. Bring your own chair or you'll be standing while you eat. When we were here, I had to ask or look for napkins. Drinks were in a cooler, help yourself. It's sort of like an honor system here. You pay for what you ordered. I don't know, I'll stop here again if others want to come to this joint. Like any other taco trucks, bring cash. I'm headed back to my favorite spots.

THEE best taco stand ever, close to home, just a short bike ride through the 2nd street tunnel, tacos only a dollar...and the lengua? whoa, I love lengua; its not just boiled cubed pieces of grey meat. Yes, it looks grey at most other places. The lengua seems to be browned, sauteed and cut in such fashion that doesn't make you think its cow tongue. It's not as chewy as you think either. They actually look like small slivers of steak. Some people might fancy the chewy grey texture of lengua, but after I've tried it here, I'd rather have it the way they have it. Try it for yourself!

The second meat of choice is good ol buche- what is that you say? Why, its cow throat. Why go for the simple most obvious meats? Its all about texture. The fatty chewy goodness of cow throat HERE at Kike's is the best I've found. Once again, this meat isn't just boiled, cubed pieces of THROAT, but...well i don't know what they do, but I've tried other taco stands with the most outrageous cow parts, and this one by far is the most flavorful.

Toppings galore- no onions please.

Seating available; and I believe I over heard someone having a conversation with the taco man and they also CATER!!! I 'm keeping that in my "need to have at a party" list.

Sorry I can't say anything bad or good bout the other meats, cuz I've only tried the weird stuff; but the bf also says it too is his best taco stand....and he goes with the easy to order al pastor and asada tacos with onions......eh.

This spot has cheap prices.good food. and will give you a good smile after.

I just wish they were open late, like after a night on the town-unless you make your night on the town end early, you can come here-oh yeah plenty of parking, and you don't have to walk blocks to get to the stand, cuz their stand is IN a parking lot.

5 stars for lengua alone.

I was introduced to this spot but none other than Tomo-San of Koke Kokko - the chicken master himself. He actually buys loads of these to take with to night clubs, etc. after work. They are great. Food is always fresh and the clientele are normally cool and friendly. This is in no way a typical street meat deal. The tacos are quite good but I usually stick to Pollo. Plus if you've been drinking too much, this is a nice way to absorb the alcohol.

The gentleman who runs the stand is always very gracious and they depend on you to tell them what you ate when you're done. Yah. The honor system. Amazing in this day and age.

As to the price, where else can you get a healthy and tasty meal (and veggies/topings are always fresh) for 5-8 bucks?

Al pastor taco was very tasty.  Pollo and asada tacos were each solid.  Lengua was disappointing as it was tougher than I though it would be.

Condiments, free beans a nice touch.  $1 per taco a good cost.  Atmosphere is dope in its way.

Keeping it real in LA.  Great street tacos, a dollar a piece, no tax.  Don't sleep on the hot dogs, and be sure to add mayonnaise.  And since the prices are so cheap, be sure to tip a buck.

I don't usually like chicken tacos cause they tend to be dry but the ones from Kike's are soooo moist. Everyone agrees with me!

I always passed by this place since I live in 1st & Beaudry. I was hesistant to try since it was street food and didnt want to get food poisoning, but yesterday, after working out, I was hungry and too lazy to go anywhere else. My boyfriend and I finally decided to try.

At first, I was ordering and the worker there was too busy talking so kept ignoring me. I was like uhh 5 tacos please. FIVE TACOS PLEASE!!! I was like does this guy not want to take my order or is he racist?
But it was just that he was too busy talking to his friend to hear me.

Their tacos were greatt. Better than el taurinos. I liked how the tortillas didn't get all hard since other places do... I would've given them 5 stars but I didnt like how that cook kept ignoring me!

Now, I'm worried that I'll be returning here for late night snack too frequently since it is a walk away.

I sure do love Taco Guy.

Kike's has been filling my belly with $1 tacos since early 2002.  I used to live in the toilet towers (otherwise known as the Promenade Towers) back in 02 and Kike's was right outside my door.  Many a evening I'd come home from a night of drinkin and whorin and walk over for an El Pastor filled nightcap.  Sadly I moved away from downtown and could only enjoy Kike's occasionally after a Dodger game.  For some strange reason it seemed like a majority of the games I went to were on Thursdays or Sundays.  Being taco guy goes to church on Thursdays and Sundays, I was often left broken hearted and hungry as Kike's would be closed.

The winds of good fortune recently shifted in my direction though and I've once again found myself living downtown and mere seconds from my favorite taco guy.  I rode my bike there last night and it was just as good as I remember.  The pastor was flavorful and the asada juicy.  Not to mention all the yummy fixing taco guy provides to pour on as you see fit. I even bought extras and handed them out to the bums who live in the 2nd street tunnel. At $1 a taco, it seemed like a cheap easy way to help out a human in need.  Plus it filled my belly for cheap.

This taco stand hit the spot.

I had a pollo, a carne asada, and a pork taco.  Delicious tortillas, just the right spice of salsa, fresh cilantro and chopped onions, and you are good for the night.

Did I mention they are $1 each?

Did I mention you have an amazing view of downtown L.A. while you eat your perfect tacos?

Did I mention that there are too many muscle trucks in the parking lot?

That is why you get 4 instead of 5 Kike's Tacos -- short douchebags with something to prove in their gigantic, gas-guzzling, high-beam trucks taking up the otherwise totally sweet atmosphere.

Yes, another taco stand review!  What, you're surprised?  We came here Saturday night for probably the latest-starting UYE I've been to so far.  20 or so yelpers over a 1.5-2 hour period devoured somewhere around 100-150 tacos.

The menu is simple: tacos (carne asada, al pastor, chorizo, pollo, lengua, buche) and soda/water.  Everything is $1.  I had 10 tacos (5 carne asada, 3 al pastor, 1 chicken, 1 chorizo).  My favorite was the al pastor.  Very flavorful and juicy.  Sadly though, they ran out of it near the end of the night so I didn't get as many al pastor tacos as I would have liked.  The chorizo was very good too.  Not too overcooked like some places.  Although I'm usually hesitant to get chicken at taco stands, I tried one.  It was tasty and I didn't get sick, so that's a plus.  Usually one of my favorites, but my least favorite here, was the carne asada.  Even for my least favorite, it was still decent, but just a little bland.

There are a few cool things about this place that most other street taco stands I've been to lack.  First, they have a wider variety of "toppings" than many.  In addition to the usual diced onions, cilantro, limes and red and green sauce, they have grilled onions and beans.  They also have radishes to munch on along with your taco.  Second, they put out a table and chairs so you can sit and relax.  It was especially nice for they UYE since some of us were there for almost 2 hours.  Finally, they serve the tacos in little plastic baskets if you are eating there.  Much sturdier than paper plates if you have 5 or 6 tacos on it.  One thing I would have liked is a bigger selection of meats.  At least some carnitas.  Gotta have carnitas.

I'm not sure what their usual hours are, but they started to close up around 1 or 1:30 on Saturday.  I think they stayed open a little later because we were there and still ordering, but I know they're not open until after the clubs let out.  Overall, not my favorite taco stand, but a good one for downtown LA.

All i have to say is heaven wrapped between 2 tiny tortillas. Its old fashion street tacos in the middle of Los Angeles.
A dollar per taco
A dollar per drink
fresh salsa
There really isn't much else to ask for
My buddies and i first discovered it coming back from Dodgers games and it has almost replaced our post game eating tradition of Tommy's.
I actually have picture of the place that i will put up as soon as my laptop is fixed.
Not Vegetarian Friendly though but its delicious.

Let me tell you, if there's one thing I know how to do, it's eat a taco. I've eaten tacos all across the L.A. area. I respect the fact that a cook can set up shop at any street corner and their success and failure will be based on how they can cook and how good it taste.

With a complete lack of advertising, all business is that of walk ons or word of mouth on how they sling tacos. Kike's Tacos are delicious. For a single dollar you can't go wrong. A meat list that is diverse and across the board ranging from chicken, beef or pork, you will have a lot of options.

They have grilled onions in a plate next to you. This is amazing. Mainly because you would normally have to ask for the grilled onions and if Spanish isn't your first language, you may be a little hesitant to ask for anything but your taco.

They have sodas and water for a dollar as well. It's a good option, though I generally like it when my taco stands go above and beyond and have fresh horchata on hand. Give me that or a Mexican coke and I'm sold with my taco eating pleasure on full.

I'll give it to them on another factor. The Chorizo. I have never had that good chorizo before. It wasn't your normal run of the mill greasy chorizo. It was prepared and made perfectly.

Taco trucks usually stay open late on the weekends to catch all the bar hoppers getting cravings after the bars close. This one closed around 1:30. Which isn't bad. And really, it all varies depending on the night and how long they feel like keeping the shop open or how many folks they feel are coming in.

The spot could also do with more condiments. The lack of salsa verde or enough cilantro for the night was a bit of a let down. Most places I've been to have a large amount of guacamole sauce. Now that's amazing on your taco.

This taco stand is amazing for being on the other side of downtown. Though I have to show that I do have pride in growing up where you'll find the best taco trucks if you don't plan on a road trip to Mexico. East L.A. if you want some crazy taco experiences, set your sights there.

And on that final note, eating 17 tacos. Now that's a feat. My hats off to Tina for showing how bottomless one persons stomach can be.

Otherwise. Kike's gets a 4.5 from me.

No words can express how much I love one dollar tacos.

No words can express the only taco craving this place can induce.

No words can express the happiness I feel by piling on the cilantro and squirting fresh lime juice on my meal.

No words can express how I can convert 15 dollars to 15 tacos.

Rock. On.

My favorite, most preferred place to get tacos.

P.s.
Because of late night drunk drivers, their hours have been reduced to midnight instead of until 2. Suck!

13.  For some its an unlucky number, for others its a bakers dozen.  For kids in elementary school, its 12 + 1.  For me, its the number of tacos I ate in 1 and a half hours at the UYE Saturday night.

So good and tasty, so cheap.  One dollar, yes sir.  My favorite was the Pastor.  Perfect spot for tacos......in a parking lot at the corner of 2nd and Beaudry with no other business to share parking with.  Ole boy behind the grill had to step it up because of the number of hungry Yelpers chomping at the bit waiting for their tacos.  OK not chomping, but waiting with bated breath.

Before I hit the 110 South to head home, I ran into a cop who indicated he had witnessed Tina's eating before and after said Taco night and will he prod his superiors to enter a new law on the books....Biking Under Comatosity.  I hope she made it home......

Thank you Tina L. for introducing me to this spot. This is the first official L.A. area taco stand I've ever visited.

I have to say, even with all the madness of the numerous Yelpers who showed up for Tina's UYE, I couldn't muster myself to beat my old record of 14, yes, 14 tacos from Minty's taco crawl.

Don't get me wrong, these tacos were good, but I didn't feel like being a glutton this night. There were a lot of fakers who thought they could take the crown, but only one person was worthy. Javier ate 14-1/2 this night. *Bows

Anyways, the tacos are $1 each with meat choices of carne asada, al pastor, chorizo, pollo, lengua, buche) with drinks (soda or water) being $1 each as well. They have the usual onions/cilantro/lemon condiments. What sets them apart from other taco stands was the grilled onions and beans they offer (free with the purchase of a taco of course). That was taking taco stands to another level. Now, I don't exactly remember how many tacos I had this night, but my favorite hands down was the chorizo. It wasn't greasy like most places, in fact, it really tasted like a better Farmer John breakfast sausage. It looked like it, but with the spices of chorizo. They also have a table and chairs set up, so if you're lucky, you can grab a spot with your friends. We ended up running the stand and taking sips of Soju thanks to Mary. :)

I now know a spot to get my taco fix if I'm ever clubbing in the area. FYI, they're normally closing shop around 2, so get here fairly early. The lot where they're at is quite huge and parking is fairly easy.

i just went back the past weekend and i am going to have to lower my rating.

The pastor is still good, but the lengua was horrible, it was chewy not tender like it should be.

The location of kike's is still pretty cool, great view of downtown.

It's a Saturday night, my group is hammered and we need a remedy. We stumble to this corner and find this taco stand on literally the corner of Beaudry/2nd. My compadres order the al pastor and overindulge on their assortment of fixins and condiments.

It's Sunday morning, I'm hungover but so happy from the tacos. Isn't that the point of after-drinking tacos? I think so......I highly recommend this spot  if you happen to stumble to this corner too.

Here's the deal, people, it's "Kee-Keh's," like, short for "Enrique."  No racists here that I'm aware of. My Jew boyfriend had no trouble wolfing down three pork tacos and then going back for a fourth. In fact, I think tacos this good n' greasy make leaps and bounds over racial divides.

It's just a little stand, in a parking lot. I assure you, nothing hits the spot after a long, late night bike ride like a couple of these puppies with some green sauce, onion and cilantro (they keep them separate, which is rad because I always like more cilantro than onion), and some caramelized onions and jalapenos. I love the pastor, and the asada.

I hate to detract a star, but I can't count how many times I've gotten my hopes up only to come here and find them gone. I get it... the beauty of taco stands is their mobility. Still, it'd be nice if they stayed open just a little past 2:00 am on the weekends.
