Small museum - very small by bay-area standards - that's a good way-station for small children.  Note that this is for *small* children.  I was with a mixed group of children 5 to 9 years old.  The eight-year-old is young for his age and did OK.  The nine-year-old absolutely scorned it and declared it "lame".

A gaggle of happy three- and four-year-olds passed him by on the way in, surely disagreeing with his assessment.  You can clearly see they love it here.

Tucked away off the tourist track adjacent to Truckee High School is a fun little haven for the baby to preschool set.  The Kidzone is a great place to play!  My son is not quite ready to hit the slopes yet nor is he prepared for me to leave him in a snow camp all day while I ski.  This was perfect fun for him though.  Boasting an indoor playground,  the Kidzone also has a train table, ample books to read and rockers where parents and kids can cuddle up and enjoy them together,  a soft padded baby play area, an art creation center and a bunny to visit.  The most impressive area in the center though was the Space Zone.  It had a space shuttle to explore,  moon terrain and a control center where there were lots of buttons and switches to touch.  There was even a dress-up area where kids could try on soft kid-sized replicas of astronaut gear.  My son loved it!  The staff was friendly and helpful --- all kids present looked to be having fun.

Admission:
$7 (for non-resident kids)
$5 (for resident kids)
$3 (for adults no matter where they're from)

The place is affliated with the San Jose Children's Discovery Museum so, if you have a membership there be sure to bring your card with you for admission.

This little jewel is a must visit on your vacation to Tahoe.  One side is an indoor play area and the other is a theme based play area that I believe changes quarterly.  It is currently an adorable African safari stage complete w/ Masai hut and big six animal costumes.  There is also an arts and craft room where kids can use stamps, paint, etc to create projects.   Lastly, the baby area for kids under 18 mths is wonderful and safe.  I personally wanted to lay down myself and take a nap but settled for sitting up comfortably against the wall :)

Bring your membership card from CDM in San Jose or Sausalito for free admission.
