Kids' Hair
2 reviews for Kids' Hair
This place is GENIUS. Long gone are the days when I went with my dad to the barber shop in Apache Plaza and had to sit quietly while I get my haircut in the barber chair next to my dad. He was already losing his hair, so he would always finish before me.
Those were the days where kids' attention spans could last two minutes rather than two seconds. Today's second generation of MTV kids can't sit still unless you put a screen in front of them. And that's exactly what Kids' Hair did.
In front of every seat was a 9" TV and a choice of a kids show to watch while they get their haircut. It doesn't always work, though. While we were there, one kid was so scared, he was in his dad's lap and was still trying to squirm away from the scissors. The stylist looked like she was dealing with it well.
These guys have kids figured out with the bright colors, TVs, and lollipop trees everywhere. But they also have parents figured out. They offer free coffee to parents while they wait. Too bad I don't drink coffee.
The only reason they lost a star was for price. $15.50 is pretty steep for a kid's haircut. I haven't been in a Great Clips for a few years, but that's more than I paid for cuts before I went super short. They also have line items on their price board for colored hair, special braiding, and a $5 bang trim. Now why don't regular haircut places offer a trim price? Good idea.
The most innovative line item, though, showed how well they new kids. Gum removal: $5. Genius.
I took my son here in the early years of his hair cutting needs, and began to dread the experience. We only went twice, and both times we came back with a slightly bedraggled toddler and yet another dang toy.
Yeah they have lots of distractions, but it was overwhelming to my son who was already nervous about the pair of scissors coming toward his head. They didn't have age-appropriate videos playing on the mini screen, and really, his hair really wasn't cut great.
Lucky us we then discovered our neighbor is a licensed hair stylist and will give Eli a perfect hair cut every time.
