Repainted ancient Kiddie Park color me impressed! Since having a child we've visited on several occasions. Until recently I always feared that "kiddie park, tetanus cut/rattle snake in the Ferris wheel" myth, but I feel like the new management is taking action in the safety of the rides. Yes they're still ancient and creaking. But the kids love it. I mean all of the smaller kids really love this place! Sure its 100 years old, but they bring a warm nostalgia with a hint of carnival fare that keeps the customers coming every weekend.

My major disappointment was the unlimited wrist band at $11 with approximately 7 rides did not include the inflatable slide. You have to pay $3 extra for the inflatable slide. That hardly seems fair especially when only one person can go down the slide at a time and its inflatable!! The slide turns out to be my kids favorite thing, so its worth the 3 bucks. If I knew what I know now, I'd probably not have paid the $11 for unlimited rides, but $3 for unlimited slides.  That's because I'm reasonably cheap!

This place has been around a long time (longer than I have if I'm not mistaken) but recently underwent a renovation.

I'll admit carnival rides have never been a favorite of mine. In fact, I'll admit I find them downright terrifying. And so a park full of them isn't exactly my cup of tea but if it's yours this place seems on par.

After the recent renovation all the rides seem to be in good working order and seem to also be checked on often. (That said in by no means a mechanic, so don't take my word for it!) The cost is affordable and you can rent for special occasions for your kids and their friends!

As a mother of two girls under the age of 4, I'm always looking for things to entertain them so Its nice to find a place that aims to please children.  The park is located on the corner of Broadway and E Mulberry and you would miss it if you weren't looking.  Its partially hidden under a lot of trees which provide great shade for the summer's heat.

There are about 6 or 7 rides total...all go in a circle, but the kids didn't mind.
We bought the unlimited ride wrist band for $12.  My girls loved the carousel and rode it about 5 times.  There's also a kiddie arcade.  The restrooms were clean and the employees were very nice.  It looks like a great place to have a birthday party.

Yes I grew up here in SA but never had the pleasure of experiencing this park as a child.  I finally got my chance when my friend threw her son's birthday party here recently.  I took my niece and she thoroughly enjoyed it!  I can't speak on the prices of anything since birthday parties include wristbands for the kiddos to enjoy any ride they please (with the exception of the inflatable slide).  But I can tell you that every child there looked like they were having a blast!  The place was crowded on a Saturday afternoon with about 10 other birthday parties going on at the same time.  I did not enjoy all the small rocks covering the ground - it made it really difficult to walk in my flats - but I guess they're there for safety, maybe?  Other than the rocks, the place was very enjoyable - plenty of picnic tables to sit at and so many wonderful rides that the kids all enjoyed.  This park includes a small arcade area, a great big carousel, a ferris wheel, tiny boats for the small kiddies, and plenty of other rides along with lots of yummy snacks.
If you have a whole afternoon to spend with a child, bring them here - I promise they will not be disappointed, and neither will you.  Your child will have a very enjoyable, and active, afternoon and when it's all over that kid is going to be out for the night!  But be sure you wear comfortable sneakers.

My 4-year old asks to go to Kiddie Park all the time.  We took a road trip to San Antonio in June (2007) after going on a web-quest to find a preschool-friendly roller coaster.  I found their website and off we went full of the promise of fun rides and shade.  We were not disappointed!

Apparently, this place was THE place for birthday parties in the 70's.  At least this is what my friends who grew up in SA told me.  Open since 1925, this place is frozen in time and I suspect not much has been altered in a while.

Not for the overprotective, uptight parent.  These rides are OLD, have chipping paint, the moat water is nasty, and the staff is a bit "gangsta" but we had an absolute blast and since we went on a Thursday (missed Wednesday with unlimited rides for $6.25!) it was empty and we had the run of the place.

Adults are free to ride only 2 of the rides: the carousel (most of the horses have broken legs and no tails but our kid didn't notice, be sure to check out the clown portraits) and a helicopter ride.

We're just sad this gem isn't in Austin...

I have the fondest of memories of good ol' Kiddie Park. I choose to try and remember it the way it was instead of the way it looks now. I do not trust that these rides are in any way safe and despite the fact that the prices are reasonable for parents that are looking for a way to fill an afternoon, I would be afraid of putting my kids in danger. Kiddie Park is in desperate need of renovations and I don't really understand why they don't do it. This is a San Antonio institution and it really needs TLC because kids today deserve to have the fond memories that those that visited back in the day have.

My 3-year old daughter and I played hooky and visited Kiddie Park, which can only be described as wonderfully dilapidated. It was established in 1925. In fact it looks like someone dumped a bunch of small carnival rides in 1925 and left them to the elements, never bothering to maintain them since. The park has a carousel, boat ride, helicopter ride, a roller coaster and more.

There are layers upon layers of flaking (probably lead) paint coming off of the rides and what safety repairs that have been made are jerry-rigged with duct tape and chewing gum to hold them all together.

Built in 1918, the carousel and its 36 wooden carved horses are in varying states of disrepair. The harsh San Antonio heat and more than a million children have taken their toll on all the rides over the last 80 years. Only a few horses still have their tails. All the others just have a hole on their rear where the tails slid into--a zoophile's wildest fantasy. Many of the horses' feet/legs are missing. One of the carnies who works there told me that there's a room filled with tails and legs that have come off over the years.

Bad painted clown art adorns the rides and each trash can is topped with a scary clown sculpture. You throw your trash through the clown's mouths.

So what did we think of the adventure? Samantha and I loved it!! I know that any Dominion yenta who visits would be horrified by the appearance of the place, but it I think this place has wonderful character and a great patina. Plus it is cheap: $7.50 for all the rides you can handle on Wednesday.

Sam loved it because there was a carousel with horsies, there were barely any kids (i.e., no lines), and she met a nice boy named Michael.

She has asked very week to go back and we have faithfully ever since.

I remember when my dad was stationed at Lackland and we'd take a trip here every Sunday after church.  It's funny looking at it now and I just can't put what I remember from before to what I see today.  Unfortunately it will be just memories for me cause now I don't really care to visit or take my own kids there.  Surprisingly enough this place is packed on the weekends - especially during the summertime.  So I suppose enough people think it's still cool to come to.

This place makes me sad. Having not grown up here, maybe I just don't get it, as all of my 30ish year old friends have talked this place up with their fond memories of childhood. I took my niece here one weekday afternoon. From her perspective (mind you she is 3) this place is like Disney. From my perspective, this is that creepy place that they show in movies where old carnival rides go to die. Everything was horribly rusty, most of the rides had broken cars, and the water ride was a bit swampy. The reason that I am saddened, and not disgusted, is you can tell at one time it was a great place. And really, if they could put some money and TLC into it, it would be AMAZING. The only semi-bonus, is that one weekdays, it is apparently very empty, so your kid has their pick of the rids with no lines. However, with that being said, the people who work there obviously don't see too much human interaction through the day, so you feel a bit forced into the "small talk with a total stranger" time while your kid is riding and giggling away.
