Of course, I've had better, but I'm from L.A., where Vietnamese restaurants are a dime a dozen.
But Nha Trang served its purpose nobly while I lived in the city, and I recommend it highly.
Pho, banh cuon (fresh egg roll), cha gio (fried egg roll), and practically any of their grilled meats over rice were very solidly done.
And you WILL get the avocado milkshake. Please. I'm not pulling your chain. Everyone must try an avocado milkshake or avocado ice cream at least once. Because it's THAT good!

I've had the pork vermicelli and beef pho....beef pho was good, but I didn't see where they would just give me eye of round only...had to come with brisket and tripe (intestine), which I'm not a particular fan of. Overall, Pho Bang is still the best pho I've found in the city.

Completely decent in all respects. Nothing fantastic or even great for that matter. But, if you are looking for solid pho and are in the area, this place is a good option.

Best Vietnamese food I have found in NYC so far! Took me awhile to find a decent Vietnamese restaurant in this city...most of them were flavorless and should not be called Vietnamese food. Pho is good, broth actually has taste and is not diluted like so many other places. I always leave happy and satisfied! They also have a good selection of vietnamese food but I usually stick to my favorites.

My favorite Vietnamese restaurant so far. I love their spring rolls. Very small and super crispy, delicious! I like the bbq beef on vermicelli noodles. And they have pretty good Pho.
I started coming here in 2003 and nothing has topped it yet! The staff are pretty nice and accommodating too. When I asked for one spring roll to be added to my noodles the waiter said I would have to order two because the spring rolls always come in two. But I said no please give me one because I don't want to eat too much. He finally said okay and gave me one for a small extra charge.
*I also like how I came in from the start on my cell phone and they totally gave me great service even though I never once got off of my phone!
**They take credit card but you have to spend over the minimum.

This is one of the places I come to when I want an adventure during lunch - or just want to take a long lunch.
I've been coming here for the past 4-5 years and I usually end up getting the Fish Ball Noodle Soup. It reminds me of a street food item I used to get in Mauritius (when I was unwillingly living there) and I never get tired of it.
I think what solidified this place as one of my standbys in a pinch was my father's approval. And he hates to eat at restaurants (he's a believer of "I can cook something like this at home - why should I have to pay someone else to make it for me?")
I think I might make a trek up there on the good ol' R train for lunch next week.
Nha Trang's Pho is one of the better tasting Pho's in NYC (does not compare to pho in vietnam of LA) strictly based on their broth. The broth is full flavored with a descent amount of meat. There is no msg aftertaste and definitely hits the spot during a cold winter day. However, there is nothing extraordinary with the rest of their menu as it has been "americanized" over the years to attract more tourist. The price is reasonable and definitely worth a look. The service is attentive and the decor definitely reminds you of the hole in the wall experience. Definitely worth a visit during lunch.
I ate her last night and was pleasantly surprised. As far as NYC goes, this is at the top for Vietnamese. The pho is not bad, with nicely seasoned broth-I would rate better than Tung Kee Noodle. But I am spoiled coming from San Jose...Little Saigon. Seems touristy by the number of 'round eye'.

Nice people, but really bad pho. I gave it a chance, man.
Well, four chances to be exact. But I keep coming back to the same conclusion: bland, watered down broth.
Try Thai Son next door. Their pho may be inconsistent, but at least its better.

My go to place for pho. As usual for chinatown, the prices are VERY reasonable and you get a huge bowl of pho. I usually get the standard beef one. I believe that is number 1 on the menu. I don't know much about Vietnamese food so I can't vouch for authenticity. All I know is that it's delicious.
The details on this place:
- terrible (Goi Cuon) spring rolls. Way too much boring lettuce, not enough meaty fillings.
- a small bowl of pho, boring broth.
I expect too much from New York - I keep forgetting that it is not the center of the earth as far as Vietnamese food goes. Really, I should just wait until I get back to California before I try to get my fix.

This is a great place and an incredible value. The pho with medium cooked beef is terrific as are the spring rolls. The staff is friendly and helpful, and if you go be sure to ask for Andy.

All my friends love Vietnamese. I don't love it, I just like it.
So whenever they decide to get Vietnamese, we always come here. The waiters pretty much know us by face, so there's the nice personal touch with service.
I always get the grilled chicken and spring rolls, and they are always right on the money. My friends get this and that, and that and this. I honestly can't say what it is they order, since I pretty much make a cross sign with my hands, like a vampire avoiding a cross.
And yeah, we always get the coffee, which is okay. But my friends just love it. Since I do like the service, and my food is always good, three stars.

Excellent valve for some pretty good Vietnamese food. The place is small and the tables are tight, but for shear valve it's a winner in my books.
It's New York, so I don't expect anything fantastic when it comes to Vietnamese food, but Nha Trang is pretty good. The pho and cha gio aren't great, and, like every other vietnamese restaurant in this city, the nuoc cham is virtually flavorless, but it hits the spot if you're not up for making a trip to Philly.
Good Pho in New York is hard to come by. I attribute all this to the fact that most of the Vietnamese restaurants are actually run by Chinese people. However, Nha Trang so far seems to be the best pho I've had in New York. Everything seems to be just right. Noodles are tender, brother is flavorful and not too salty. Herbs are fresh. This place gets an A- for Pho. Pat on the back. Good job guys.
Just work on decorating please. This place is ridiculously ugly.

Unbelievable tasty famous vietnamese dishes included the 'Phos" (Rice Noodle Soup), Pork Chops and incredible apetizers. Everything for a bargain. You go...you'll come back again.
My Pick: Deep Fried Spring Rolls, Pork Chop and Beef Cubes sauteed in Spice w/ Salad. Very good. I mean: "VERY GOOD!"

Vietnamese restaurant with a Chinatown vibe.
Was really happy with the Pho Tai here. Good beef broth, good noodles, loved the sliced beef. The Banh Cuon appetizer (Vietnamese ravioli w/ pork filling) with picked dipping sauce was good and well-portioned but probably wouldn't order it again.
Note: This is right by the city court - so if you've got jury duty, consider this place for lunch...

Differnet opinions everytime I came.
However the last two times I visited the pho soup was pipin hot and delicious. I ordered the beef ball pho and it was great, portions were generous too. Don't expect any spectacular service here, that's not their point. However place is fairly clean and if you're hungry and wanna eat you should come here.
I used to come here more than Thai Son (which is one door down) since they were the only place I found that carried Sinh To Thom (Pineapple Smoothie) here in NYC.
I just don't think the smoothie is worth going here anymore.
One weekend since after my favorite Bun Bo Hue place moved to NJ - I was still craving Bun Bo Hue. I thought I would give this place a try since I never had it from here.
The main part of this dish is the broth itself. They failed miserably to make this favorite Vietnamese dish of mine.
I couldn't even eat it but other than that their other dishes are better. I like this location better than the one on Centre Street.
I took Frenchie here once before since he never had Vietnamese food. Frenchie loves drinking coffee - So I ordered him a Cafe Sua da and at first he started freaking out when I poured it into a tall glass filled with ice.
He started whining about he likes his coffee hot not cold. But he ended up being pleasantly surprised and actually ended up loving it.
I heard this place is really popular for their Pork Chop dish. I never tried it but a lot of people orders it.

I've been going here since I was 9 yrs. old. It used to be good, but lately everytime I order something, it seems to come out unusually fast. I think they've been nuking their food. I can sometimes taste the microwaved odor. I think they've changed owners, and that may be the reason why the food quality went downhill. Some of the noodle soup I've ordered here was a bit lukewarm too. I think the newer places next door might be better. I give it 3 stars b/c it's a childhood destination for me.
prior to having pho here, i actually hated vietnamese food. well, not hate, thats a strong word, but of all the different types of asian cuisines there are, vietnamese was my least favorite. in my mind it was just too bland.
but then my awesome friend brought me here. and i was hooked. i tried several of the different types of pho on the menu, and they've all been delicious. i had the roast pork one, where the roast pork was served on the side. i had the one where the meat is slightly medium rare and discovered medium rare is so much better than well done, especially in such a hot soup. then the last time i went i had the one with the satay sauce and the usually clear and clean tasting broth was flavored with this amazing slightly spicy sauce, really gave it this great kick.
then the additional dishes -- the soft shell crab was amazing, so was this vegetable whose english name is unknown to me.. but its green and crunchy, like some variation of spinach but with a hollow center.. kinda like a plate of mushy green straws. my favorite veggie dish.
this is a great place to go when you are super starving and want your food served piping hot and extremely fast!

I was first introduced to Nha Trang by a guy I was dating who was a sous chef at Jean George (so I assumed he knew about food, and he did). I have been coming here on a regular basis ever since and everyone I've brought here (or to their Centre street location) has become a devotee to Nha Trang. I really love the spring rolls, the squid with lemongrass, the Pho and don't overlook the rainbow drink...sometimes I stop by just for that and take it to go. Yummy and inexpensive.

I'm from killa Cali a regular in San Jose and LA (little saigons), and I consider myself a connoisseur of vietnamese food, ESPECIALLY pho. If you want the best food in the world, NY is the place to go, UNLESS you want Vietnamese and Mexican (I'll talk bout that in another review). So I've been on this never ending quest to find THE best Pho in all of NY (all boroughs included). I have yet to find a restaurant that matches what I can get on the West Coast (can anybody explain to me why that is?) Anyways, I was hugely dissapointed when I came to Nha Trang after I went to the place directly next door New Pasteur. I swear, they have the same Chefs cuz the pho tastes exactly the same. The soup has no flavor except too salty, the appearance is bland, and the vermicelli is second rate and the meat is chewy. The reason why I'm giving 3 stars however, is the rice dishes is what this place is really known for. When I'm in the mood for chicken, pork chops, or beef, choose anything on the menu and you're golden. And all plates are $5-6 and service is always quick.

Do not come here for service or ambiance, as they make no pretension of offering either. Do come in for succor after a long day of shopping in SoHo or Chinatown. The barbecue beef ia flavorful and tender, a great example of what the bigger ethnic Vietnamese restaurants of Chinatown have to offer.
Yay, found a good Vietnamese place in Manhattan! I had the bbq pork chop with shredded pork and steamed egg. Was good (bbq pork chop @ viet places is my favorite) and the prices were good, to match. We shared a plate of spring rolls which came a bit late, but were worth the wait. I'll have to go back and try the pho - my friends liked it a lot.

Don't know enough to compare this place to many others, but I can say that even if they have mediocre Pho, it's still goddamn good. The Vietnamese have perfected the noodle soup, and though the broth at this place is lighter than some others I've had, it does taste refreshingly light. The Beef Ball soup is may favorite (it comes with meatballs, thin cut sirloin, and rice noodles), but there was a lemongrass-y shrimp soup that was really good too (imagine a Thai Tom Yum kicked up a notch or two). And definitely get a Vietnamese beer too.
omggg my friend Chris lovesssss this place, hes seriously addicted, we walked in and they all were like heyy..the usual today sir??? ahha so funny, i enjoyed it!!...very nice service, filling food..again inexpensive!! dont we all love that??...

My main reason for this visit was for the pho. When my soup first came out it was bland but by the end of the meal it had just the right flavor. My first impression was that this place was not as good as i have had in the past. The spring rolls were good but the dipping sauce was so spicy i think it killed some of my taste buds.
I have eaten next door at Thai Son and remember my experience much more satisfying. I will have to revisit Thai Son and review it!
Overall, you cant beat the price and its pretty clean so I would go again. The place was packed and customers seemed to be happy.
this is a good place. cheap, straight-forward, good quality ingredients, good vibe.
i had a pork-vermicelli dish and my friend went vegetarian and said it was great, rare praise from a veggie. we both also got pairs of those big rolls on a stick. not a stick, a leaf thingy. they were just fine. a lot of good flavors, a nice meal you don't have to think about when you're eating, but enjoy nonetheless.
our waiter was an older gent with a rascal smile and good humor and intelligence. i asked about peanuts and he was immediately clear about my intent, well aware of food allergies and the precision required in food prep. they also freely made ingredient adjustments to my friend's veggie plate.
a perfect, simple inexpensive vietnamese place. a pleasure.

i was trying to make a 12pm yoga class in manhattan (12th and bway), and i was running late. so i decided to go the extra mile and splurge on car service to ensure that i'd get there on time. arecibo picks me up at 11:30am, and the guy inexplicable chooses not only to take the bk bridge instead of the manhattan bridge, he choose to drive up centre street!!! through chinatown!! *fume*
needless to say, i didn't go to yoga last saturday. instead, i yelled at the driver, hopped out at canal street, and consoled my yogaless soul with a big bowl of the #1 at nha trang. and then i got another order of the #1 to go. for later.

Nha Trang is a solid place in Chinatown for decent Vietnamese food but has been a real hit or miss place during my last few visits. The service is extremely nice and a real pleasant group of folks. Prices like many other nearby Vietnamese establishments are reasonable and fairly inexpensive.
The pho is recommended here as the broth is decent and the bowls can be as big as a helmet. A clear winner is their Pho Dac Biet (special house pho), which has been the most consistent item in the house (but then again, its REALLY BAD if you mess up pho). Goi cuon (shrimp/veggie vermicelli roll) is good here, but has been up and down during various nights. Finally the Banh Xeo (pancake) is good stuff, loaded full of seafood and cilantro.
Dining here has been better than take out as my food was packaged poorly and on more than one occasion the contents of the box would end up at the bottom of the bag. No one likes a soggy bag filled with pork chop, rice, and fish cake.

I don't really eat Vietnamese too often, but as far as I can tell the food at Nha Trang was pretty authentic. It was also very good. I had an order of the fried Vietnamese spring rolls, served (as they should) with lettuce and mint leaves, and they were absolutely delicious. I also had a bowl of seafood pho (I guess this may not be very typical, but I don't really eat beef), and it was also quite good. The size of the pho was a little small compared to what I've seen or had at other places, but with the spring rolls it was more than enough to fill me up. All of this for under $10: can't complain. It took a while for them to take my order and give me my check (there was only one guy taking orders for the whole restaurant), but the food came in a jiffy. If you still have room for dessert, walk down to the Chinatown Ice Cream factory two blocks away.

This is my favorite place to get Vietnamese. When I have guests visiting me in NYC I like to take them here, especially the peeps that visit me from Houston (there are great Vietnamese restaurants there) At Nha Trang the food is delicious, the service is friendly and quick, and the prices are excellent..
One note, they give you two menus a green and red and I forget which is which, but one has the apps in it, and one has entrees with rice and the other has entrees without rice..Make sure when you order you tell the waiter the correct dish...I've mistakenly ordered the one without rice before when I wanted the other.
These are my favorite dishes and must eats:
Hollow vegetables, Chicken Chili & Lemon Grass with White Rice, Spring and Summer rolls, Famous Vietnamese Barbecued Pork Chop, and Salt & Pepper Squid, and their Pho...If you want a bun go to Pho Viet Huong Restaurant on Mulberry they do a better job
*Also the Nha Trang on Centre is just as good

One of my favorite. It is the real thing. Not very pretty or romantic, I am not even sure that it is very clean. But the food is amazing. The large Pho thai is delicious, the herbs and noodles perfect. I go there for the traditional, Spring rolls are hot and crispy. Summer roll cool and refreshing, a mouth-full of delicious flavor. I also like to order their pork chops very thin, and cooked to perfection. Absolutely a must for authentic Vietnamese food
