Review from L G.
Roseville, CA
I've been driving past this restaurant for weeks and I kept telling myself that I wanted to stop by and try it out. So finally, last Monday I stopped to check it out. Initially, my impression wasn't very good. When I first showed it was approximately 5 minutes before they opened for dinner; someone walked out and said, "We're not open yet", instead of welcoming me in to sit and wait 4 - 5 minutes (at the time I was the only one there waiting). I started to leave to never return to this place again. I drove away, stopped at the hot dog place aross the way and they were closed. While I waited, I checked the "Places" app on my phone which many people gave Khobkoon really good reviews, so I decided to return and give them a second shot. Wow, I'm glad that I did!!!!
This place was great.... the food & service was superb! For an appitizer I had PHLA KUNG (Prawns seasoned with lime juice, lemon grass, mint leaves, tomato, chili, red and green onion.) which was very spicy and I love spicy but probably really couldn't tollerate to much hotter.... it was great! Then for my main dish I had KUNG PAD PHED - Shrimp stir-fried with fresh chili, mushroom, garlic, bell pepper, onion, and sweet basil. Delish!!!!
I highly recommend this restaurant & will definately be returning again soon... If not for my first impression (Owners/Employess remember: You never get a second chance to make a great first impression) I would have given a 5 star rating. -

Went for a Thursday night dinner at around 7pm. We were the only ones in the restaurant for about 10 minutes, then people started pouring in. Our server was so nice, SO NICE. It seems like he said "Excuse me please, young man/young woman" each time he even just walked by our table. The only problem that we saw last night is that he was the only server in the place. The couple sitting across from us were starting to get really fidgety and anxious and kept swinging their heads around looking for the poor guy. So a little sparse on the service for some people (we had no problem waiting a little bit, since we weren't in a rush), but super friendly.
Food was delicious. Husband had the duck curry and I had the pad thai with shrimp. Pad thai was not too orange, which was a hit and how can you go wrong with duck? Actually, you can go wrong a lot of ways, but this place made it taste pretty good. -

the only downside to this restaurant is that they put too much bamboo shoots in everything.
however, very friendly, clean, and quiet.
and other then the bamboo shoots, pretty good coconut soup, ok spicy eggplant, ok pad thai, good red curry, and i don't remeber what it was but it was the spicy beef stir fry, that was awesome.
the man loaded the car for me when i was getting a take out because i had my daughter with me.
this isn't bad thai place. but definitely not the best in town.
cheaper then khun suda. -

I am a regular here when we don't feel like cooking. We love their duck curry and many other dishes, such as the trout wrapped in banana leave with special sauce. They also refill your rice so that's a plus. Their customer service is great although it's a one man band, the owner is very friendly and nice. They even gave us complimentary thai iced tea one time when they run out of certain dishes. I love how they take care of the customers.

This is the blandest, most flavorless Thai I've ever had. I'm not surprised -- it seems all Asian food in Roseville is mall-quality and mediocre. It's a nice place, good service, quiet and clean.

I'm from Los Angeles.. a city where we actually have a community in Hollywood called Thai Town.. so I know what good authentic Thai taste like.. I had my husband pick up some Pad Thai and (my usual fave) seafood soup.. to my disappointment... the Seafood Soup #12 POH TEAK Horrible.. who makes seafood soup with Salmon?? Gross I've had lots of Thai seafood soups from all sorts of places and its always made with a white fish.. when I opened the take home container... it smelled like a fish tank gone bad.. I'm being honest and nice by even giving this place a "1 star" because the Pad Thai was ok... not anything to write home about.. so save ur $$ I'm just calling it as I taste it..
I Really really hope that nasty salmon wasn't bad.. although i didnt eat it.. it ruined the whole taste/smell of the soup.. Im so very sad.. (since this place is walking distance to my house.. bummer.. -

Not bad... ordered pick up for dinner over the labor day weekend. We were lucky they were open, since it seemed like most places were closed or closed early. Our food was ready in 20 minutes. We ordered the fried tofu, pad kra-phrow, pad woon send, and kao pad curry. The cucumber peanut sauce for the fried tofu was a good starter, it opened up the appetite. The kao pad curry had a good amount of seafood, squid, mussels and shrimp on a bed of soft curry rice. The pad kra-phrow did have a little bit of heat and the beef was really soft, but also a lot of bamboo shoots. The sauce is great over rice. The Pad woon send was also interesting. The noodles were the thin, clear noodles. It's probably better to eat it at the restaurant, since it got a little mushy.

Had dinner here tonight with my BFF. Our server was very friendly and prompt. The food came quick. The pad thai was delicious! I've had better pad prik khing (sp?), but I really enjoyed the eggplant basil. Will definitely come here again!

Very good food & nice people, but I ordered 2 yellow curries & a green curry to go, when I got to the restaurant after half an hour they only had 1 yellow & the green ready they didn't understand that I'd ordered 3. I was told it would take 10 minutes, it took about 25.

I tried their food by accident once. Seriously. I had ordered my (Thai) usual, drunken noodles, while at work & accidentally got my lunch mixed up with my co-workers'.
Best. Accident. Ever.
I can't ever remember what it's called but I like to call it "The #1 Lunch Special From the Thai Restaurant Down the Street". Ground chicken, bamboo shoots, bell peppers and basil leaves over rice. Thai hot. The best thing to touch my taste buds in a long time.
It's SO good, I ordered the same dish after work and ate it in my room because I didn't want to share. Don't worry, I had the windows open & my Glade plug-in's working over time.
I haven't eaten at the restaurant yet, but every time I order to go, the service has always been polite and prompt. They were even nice enough to give me free soda! Anything free is good.
BTW, I gave this place 4 stars (for now) because I have yet to venture out and try their other dishes (from what I've heard, their Panang curry is really good). -

The food at Khobkoon was quite delicious. We ordered a tofu with eggplant dish, I don't remember the name, and a pad thai. The pad thai was pretty standard, nothing too special about it. The tofu/eggplant dish was very delicious, the eggplant was cooked very well, maybe fried or roasted before. We requested this dish to be only medium spicy, I think we could have gone higher.
Overall, pretty nice place to get Thai food. It doesn't seem like there are too many places to get real Thai food in Roseville... so based off of that, this place I would say 3.5 stars overall, but I liked the decor and service was very good, so I'll round up. -

The owners of this tasty Thai restaurant are fantastic! We frequented their previous establishment for many years and was happy to learn that they had a new place. Same quality food and same great service. Their menu is actually quite extensive, although I do wish they had fresh spring rolls. My one complaint. Other than that everything is great! A clean place as well. Beer and wine available.
Fried Spring Rolls-Very tasty with a chili dipping sauce.
Tom Kha Gai Soup-Delicious hot pot soup with coconut milk as a base.
Duck Curry-Love this dish. Flavorful sauce and love the duck meat.
Yellow Curry-Exactly what you'd expect out of a yellow curry. Potatoes, carrots, onions in a delicate sauce.
Green Curry-I like this dish with eggplant, basically vegetarian style.
Basil Beef-Dont order it too hot! Yikes! Its good though.
Pad Thai-Good noodle dish.
Fried Banana with Coconut Ice Cream-A perfect way to end your meal!
Come to Khob Koon and enjoy. It means "thank you" in Thai by the way. -

I had the #25- Duck curry. It was really good. It said spicy, but I don't really do spicy very well sometimes, so I told them to go mild instead of hot. It was very good. I ordered rice on the side because it doesn't come with rice.
I also tried their rolls as an appetizer. They were really great.
I want to go back and try their other dishes. -

The food was very good. We ordered the Pad Thai, Gai Yang (bbq chicken) and green curry with chicken. The Pad Thai is one of the best I've had and comes with shrimp, very flavorful and light. The green curry was different but in a good way, the coconut milk is very mild (if present) and the spices were delicious.
We went on a Friday night when they were busy and the service was really slow, it was at least 20min before we could place an order and another 50min before our food arrived. If the food at other tables didn't look so good and we didn't have so much time to kills I probably would have left.
The restaurant is nice, overall and despite the service the food will definitely lure me back. -

Good, solid Thai food. Cheap lunch specials.
Their spice knob seems to be jammed at 3/10. All the flavors, heat or otherwise, are weaker than I would like.
This is, of course, personal preference. I require more flavor in my Thai food than this place seems to want to provide . The place seems designed for the corporate lunch crowd, which makes their lack of slap-in-your-face flavors a good tactic, as nobody wants to return to work drenched in sweat and smelling like a Thai spice rack exploded on you. -

We've only been here once, but will definitely come back again. Lately my SO and I have been trying to find GOOD places in the area with cheap lunch prices. And yes, we have found it here.
The staff was very friendly. Our server was more than courteous when my 2 year old made a mess of her rice all over the table and floor. I apologized on the way out, but he said "Thats my job". I was amazed.
The lunch portions were the perfect amount. I left there feeling like I ate something very clean and didn't have that feeling of heaviness, scared that I'm gonna get a migraine from all the MSG. No eater's remorse here!! -

Love this place. Never had a bad meal here, the food comes out quick and they always have good suggestions for ordering. Corkage fee is $5. Pad thai with veggies is awesome, the sampler appetizer is good, red curry with is good, haven't had a bad meal yet. Highly recommend.!

Pretty cheap for lunch, $6.95. The price and proximity to work is really the only draw for me. There are better choices further away.
Green curry lunch was OK, though a little too heavy on the coconut milk. They were fast. I liked that. They served the rice and curry in the same container. Not even separated by foil I didn't like that. The rice ended up being mushy having sat in the curry sauce. So be forewarned.
Pad See Ew was unfortunately disappointing. It was waaay too soupy. Too much sauce. Not much noodle, but too much broccoli. I would have preferred the gai lan (chinese kale?) that they use at most other places. They also used beansprouts aka filler. I ordered it vegetarian so it came with soft tofu which didn't taste the freshest since there was a hint of tang. I played it safe and picked them out.
May end up back for the curry if I'm in a pinch for lunch, but I'll make sure to pick it up ASAP. Pass on the pad see eww though. And pass on anything with tofu in it. -

Solid 3+ stars. Had the #3 lunch: red curry noodles with pork (medium spiciness) today, and it was very tasty. In the past, I had the #19 lunch 'Pra Ram Long Song' a number of times and have always enjoyed this, too.
Owner is extremely nice and friendly, and the decor is modern and clean. -

The food was mediocre at best. You would think with me being the first customer of the day, my food would've at least been hot. Also, the rice was way undercooked. I could've heated up some Uncle Ben's rice and done a better job. I ordered the yellow curry chicken. It was flavorless. My first instinct told me not to eat here. I should've listened to it.

My friend lives just down the street and had been wanting to try this place. It's fairly small, maybe 15 tables, 4 or 5 of which were occupied when we arrived before 7:00pm on a Monday evening.
We were seated right away, but it took quite a while for someone to bring us water and take our order. I was kind of disappointed the soup was only available as a portion large enough for 3.
We ordered the shrimp pad thai (always a good test of a Thai restaurant's abilities) and an egglplant & tofu dish. The pad thai was decent, not the best I've ever had. The tofu pad eggplant had a nice flavor and was just spicy enough. Very satisfying.
Prices were decent, but service could be better. Not sure I'd go back. -

The food itself gets 5 stars. To get an overall 5-star rating, not only does the food have to be 5-star, but you must also have niceties like tablecloths and cloth napkins. If you can do without those, and you want a great meal, go to Khobkoon. We had the Gai Pad King, chicken sauteed with mushroom, ginger, onion and tomato. Our other dish was the Moo-Yang, marinated pork kabob with sweet and sour sauce. Happy tummy! It really went down well. We'll be back!

Just a secret; I never can get Thai food spicy enough for me. So we asked for Thai spicy and the guy says "How is it?" and we went, "It'll do." So he says next time ask for secret level 5 extra spicy. They don't offer it unless you ask. Can't wait......

We went here tonight for dinner trying to find a good cheap (6$ or less) place to eat. Walking in the ambiance and decor is very nice. It wasn't what I expected, I was thinking cheap Thai decor, but it was very nice, elegant and very warming.
The service was good, always making sure our water glasses were full, asking if it was okay if they poured us more water and saying 'excuse me' as our waiter went into pour water. The food came out quickly and it was very good.
The food was overall really delicious. We ordered the chicken coconut milk soup with bamboo shoots and a duck with pineapple dish. Both dishes were overall scrumptious. I particularly liked the chicken coconut milk soup. We ordered the soup to be at a medium spicy level and that was excellent. It wasn't an overpowering hot, but one that crept up slowly, but not hot where you can't taste anything else and kind of made your body temperature get hot or is really noticeable. Overall the creaminess and lightly sweetness of the coconut milk adds a nice touch to the soup.
As for the duck with pineapples, it was delicious as well. It was a red sauce that reminds me a lot of sweet and sour pork, but it's not as thick nor sticky as that traditional sauce for the Chinese dish. There are cucumbers, red peppers, tomatoes, and green onions mixed in. I don't know what it's called, but there was also what I am familiar as a Chinese fungus (I love the texture it has crunchy thick but tender and soft looks like a brown leaf) that is usually served with rice noodles at funeral banquets or Chinese New Years.
The prices of dishes averaged to be at 8$-13$, plus another 2.50$ for rice. It was well worth it, but I would rate it to being a $$ not a $ restaurant. Good food and service to end the new years day. -

Let me start my review by sending complements to the cook & the service here at khobkoon. Whatever i order here at khobkoon is always delicious. From the appetizers(stuffed chicken wings)etc.,the main dishes(panang) etc., to dessert(sticky rice w/mango ice cream). Never fails! Always on point. Ask me if i would come back? Definetly! I'd consider my wife & i as regulars here.

Was not a fan. The food lacked basic flavor and heat eventhough we went with medium spice. There was nothing BAD about the food, and the service was friendly, but I've had better Thai, even in Roseville.
