Very kind and generous host, my husband and I were pleasantly suprised based on previous lady in red wines we have bought. Their whites left suprises and cab sav was favorful beyond regular boldness of the area cab sav. Their portis something to not pass up. If you're in the area please do yourself a favor And stop in for a tasting.

Have you ever heard of a wine slushy? Me neither until my visit to Kestrel...
I had been here before and didn't have a great experience... they were a tad snotty to my then 21 year old self. Fast forward 5 years and things were much different... different people? The fact I was older? Who knows.
The wine hasn't changed much since the last time I was there - they are known for their Lady in Red and their White blend. Their voignier. is also delicious. They do make some very tasty desert wines (I recommend the late harvest Merlot.)
The lady that helped us was knowledgeable and funny - and it doesn't cost to taste. The best part of the tasting? The wine frappe - a delicious frozen wine beverage. They make it in red and white... my girlfriend and I both had the red... and let me tell you, we ordered a full glass to sit down with and enjoyed it along with people watching through the windows! -

Very helpful staff with wonderful suggestions. $5 for wine tasting and you get to select 6 wines from the list. Nice touch with the live music, the guitarist was very good.

Ah yes, what a refreshing sight when those working a local tasting room don't look over at me and pass me off as just another young whippernsapper.
We were both greeted with a warm hello from the tasting room hostess, and immediately treated to some tasty wines. I will say, that stopping by moments away from closing time usually draws a sigh of distaste from most individuals - but that was not the case here.
I enjoyed each wine that was poured, sticking to mostly the whites - as I have a bit of an affinity towards those. Though giving the Lady in Red a try was a great idea, being a red I actually enjoyed. (A rare occurrence.) The shining star was a hard fought title that I would give to the voignier. Great, clean finish with an ever-present floral aroma. Only could imagine how great it would be with a fantastic dinner. We took a bottle of the pure platinum - chilled - back with us to the hotel room, and it served as a great pre-sleep drink.Listed in: What's Prima / Nicht Gut In…

So on our tour of the Leavenworth Wines we stumbled into this one as it was one of our last.....
Lori thornton the rasting room manager was quite informative and helpful. She described the various wines and had a nice pairing of the dessert wine with a dark chocolate covered almond...Nice job...
The few other wines we tasted did nothing for the palate though....
Maybe another day.....3 stars for her helpfulness and knowledge -

I had no expectations upon walking into Kestrel, and still I was disappointed. We went in during an extremely busy weekend, and the medium-sized counter was swamped with people. Nevertheless, there was absolutely no care or thoughtfulness on the part of the tasting room staff. When I worked at a winery, I would have been fired for that level of disregard of the visitors. We received a couple of brief glances and rushed sentences about each wine before our helper-person rushed off to pour a sip for another set of tasters.
The biggest rookie mistake, though, was not even rinsing out the glass between the whites and reds (let alone between starkly different tasting wines between those groups); there were several pitchers on the counter, and it would have taken seconds. I can understand that it was busy, but they need to slow down and take more time instead of looking frazzled and trying to feed us and get us out the door like cattle. It's a winery, for crying out loud, not a McDonald's.
That being said, the wine was not good. Maybe the glass needed some rinsing between wines, but I did not enjoy any of Kestrel's wines. Perhaps they were too dry, or perhaps they were rushed through the production process as we were through the tasting room.
Additionally, there were kids in thick winter jackets swarming all over this place waiting while their parents got boozed up; this tasting room is laden with fragile glass decorations, bottles, extravagant olive oil in beautifully fancy glassware... I was just waiting for some kid to run past a display and catch an edge on his coat and bring the whole thing down. Don't bring kids in here!
Now that I am back home, I am astonished to see bottles of Kestrel wine all over the place at stores and restaurants. I can't imagine why; perhaps they just did an impeccable job with their marketing and the Monroe on the bottle. Wherein I would like to offer the advice: "Don't judge a wine by its label". -

They have great wine but the server was a little snooty. We did our wine tasting and ran to the next one.

Very helpful and was given extra tastes for free because we were new to wine tasting. Kept switching people on us though which dampened the experience.

I used to be a member of Kestrel wines. I used to like getting the novelty bottles of Marilyn Monroe typed and lady in red wines. Don't get me wrong the wine is pretty good. I like the Whites from here and the signature Lady in Red is great around Xmas time. But every time I would come here I would be ignored and passed over. I understand I am a young wine drinker but I knew more about some of their wines than most of the others that were tasting. I do however like the Asian pear wine they have here. But because of the snootiness and a little over average wine I decided to cancel my membership. I only sometimes visit Kestrel on my wine tours of Leavenworth.
