27 reviews for Kenwood Inn and Spa
One of Kenwood Inn and Spa's Favorite Reviews What's This?
This place is pure luxury. A million stars if possible. This is hands down the most romantic place to stay in Sonoma. Wine flows freely. Hot tubs everywhere. Rooms are immaculate and gorgeously appointed. It's truly an escape from everyday life. I'm guessing people fall in love here, or even fall in love again here. It's so amazing. Also, they are one of the few spas in the world that use Caudalie products! Restaurant is awesome. It's a couple's scene (and not in a cheesy way). Perfect for a weekend getaway. I can't rave enough!

Perfectly rustic and not too polished...it's Kenwood, people -- not Rodeo Drive.
The mood is so relaxed. The fountains trickle. The breakfasts are amazing. People whisper and are very respectful of your privacy.
It's also ridiculously expensive. But it's the best place to stay in this area without a doubt.
My husband and I were totally excited to stay here, considering all the rave reviews.
When we arrived, I thought I was in the twilight zone. *Awful.* Downright shabby. Terrible service.
When we got home, I got an email from the Inn asking for me to review them on Yelp. Apparently, they give out gift certificates to people for the best reviews. Ahhh--now I see where all the 5 star ratings on here came from!
I understand that sometimes businesses struggle to get it right, and wrote it off to a bad weekend... However, I took the time to fill out a customer satisfaction survey for them, and never heard a peep back.
Ew.
Spent unforgettable wedding night here. Would love to treat Mrs Me for a return trip. Best spa/hotel experience ever.
I have never stayed there but I have visit it and it is one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever been.
Review #400!
I struggled to figure out what I would review for #400. I have a lot of recently visited places that I need to review, but I wanted to write something that was memorable.
A little over 4 years ago, we arranged sitters for our kids for the weekend, and my wife took me away to the Kenwood Inn and Spa for my birthday. There was an article in the San Francisco Magazine that featured this inn as one of the most romantic inns in the Bay Area. So we checked it out.
We stayed during the Winter, when the weather was cool and misty. When driving along highway 12, it's easy to pass by this place. As many of the previous reviewers have noted, the buildings and the layout of the inn is reminiscent of an Italian villa. Baskets of fruit can be found over the inn. There are two pools, and a bath house with a pool, steam room, and sauna.
The room itself is very spacious. There's a large fireplace with two large chairs placed in front, and a chaise along side it. The bathroom has a very large shower and a two person jacuzzi, complete with candles and bath salts to set the mood. No on site gym. None of the rooms have TVs, but they do have CD players with a set of CDs. So if you need a TV in your room, you're out of luck. You'll need to bring a book, or find something else to keep you occupied ;+)
My wife also booked for 3 treatments for the both of us at the on site spa. Started with a facial, then a grape seed scrub, followed by a massage. Friendly, and professional staff. She also had the same treatments as well. I felt so relaxed after my treatments (I think I also fell asleep during one of the treatments).
Unlike a bed and breakfast inn, breakfast is served between certain hours in the morning, so we can stroll on in at out leisure. Breakfast is usually 3 courses, and its leisurely and relaxing.
Overall service of the inn was excellent.
Reading the recent review of Kenwood Inn, I noticed the reviews are mixed. It's really a blend of a bed and breakfast and a small hotel. Won't have as many amenities you would see in a hotel, but you will get the intimacy of a B and B.
I'll need to plan another stay to update this review.

beautifully romantic and relaxing. I was debating between fairmont spa resort and kenwood inn until the last minute of the trip, but we chose Kenwood and loved very much. quite and relaxing. spa was great and the pool was clean too. I and my husband really enjoyed the time being there! Down side: the rate was a bit high and the check-in was 1 hour delayed and the food was not that impressive but pricey.
Awesome place!!! I went her with a lady friend and stayed the night. We got up to Sonoma around noon. What's great about this place, besides how beautiful it is, is that it's located on a road that has a ton of wineries. We were smart about drinking and driving and decided to start at the furthest winery. Then the drunker we got, the closer the inn got:)
After a bunch of wineries, we put on the robs and went to the hot tub. They have a few around the facility and the one I liked was the indoor one that you can have your own privacy. Oh, and not that we needed anymore, but they have in the pool house, a constant flow of free wine. We recovered a bit and went to a nice dinner. We sat next to the fire place and had an amazing waiter. The food was what you would expect from this place...fantastic.
The rooms were very nice and spacious. It was like an Italian cottage feel...very romantic. Another nice thing about this place is that it's small and intimate. There aren't too many guest and so you get that quietness. Recommend this to anyone who wants a romantic trip that involves lots and lots of wine.

We stayed there last weekend and unfortunately construction was going on as they're renovating the property so it was a bit noisy. It's still beautiful and an amazingly romantic getaway. Rooms are quiet and beautifully decorated (no TVs but a nice CD player with soothing music), wonderful soaking tubs and great products in-room. Breakfast was included with our stay and was delicious and plentiful. Unfortunately the spa was a bit of a disappointment as they no longer use Caudelie products but rather Arcona which is not nearly as good - save your pennies and go to a cheaper spa for the facial. Other than that, we thoroughly enjoyed the grounds, feels as if you're in a villa in Italy not right off Highway 12. Make sure to enjoy the wonderful pool and steam room - not to be missed.
Off season they offer some great deals, over the winter we stayed there for $300 a night which included an hour-long facial and dinner - so visit their website for specials.

This is a particularly tough review to write. We went to the Kenwood in three years ago and had a wonderful experience. Everything was just fantastic. At that time, the owner would come down to a small wine tasting bar and a group of guests would get together and talk long into the evening while sampling different wines. The breakfast the next morning was equally stellar.
But, all things must change and by the time we went back to the Kenwood Inn last year they had been bought out. We found some of the pool and spa facilities were in disrepair. We found the once-wonderful breakfast was now just a basic scrambled egg. And, the social gathering at the wine bar had been replaced by a now vacant room offering microwaved pasta dishes to those stuck at the hotel (there are no nearby restaurants open after 8 p.m. for dinner during the week).
And, inexplicably, the room we had loved before was now home to lots and lots of bugs. Walking to the bathroom in the morning, you could hear the crunch of beatles under your feet.
We have great memories of our first stay here years ago, but based on our last stay, I would not recommend this hotel. We've made Yountville our new wine country home.
It's a shame because this really was a wine country gem before it was bought out.

We used this for our little mini-moon after our wedding. We also used it for our first meeting place to take photos on our wedding day. They have some beautiful spaces to take photos and we wanted to use our photographer as much as possible, so we met before the ceremony to get some great shots. The manager met me and made suer that we didn't see each other before the photographers got there. They were very accommodating by allowing us to shoot there.
It was absolutely gorgeous, quiet and our room didn't even have a tv which was nice so we didn't get sucked in to it. The spa jacuzzi bathtub was wonderful and they put a bottle of champagne in our room for the wedding night. Breakfast was very plentiful and delicious. We didn't get to use the spa facilities because we had so much family to entertain during the day, but I'm sure we'll go back for an anniversary or something to enjoy then.
3.5 stars. Ummmm how on earth does this place have 4.5 stars? It was a wee bit rustic for my taste. And I didn't know the room didn't have a TV so I forgot to bring reading materials. Yes, I am that lame! The bathtub was huge and awesome and I definitely took a few bubble baths to unwind. The restaurant is AWESOME though the menu is somewhat limited. We also split a bottle of the NV Laurent-Perrier Cuvee Brut Rosé Champagne, which was excellent. For the price I just think there are better options out there.
I came here for a 3 session package for my birthday. It was the one for guys... a Male special or something. Everything about this spot put me to sleep. It was such a relaxing environment. I love that I didn't have any reception... my Blackberry had never been this quiet.
The first session was an hour facial, second session was an hour body scrub and last, an hour long massage.
The facial was awesome, she was gentle with my face and after she was done my face felt like a cloud. It was so awesome. The body scrub was great too. I could feel the dead skin being scrubbed away and feeling so refined. The hour long massage was the perfect finale. I fell asleep three different times on the last session. The masseuse knew exactly how much pressure to apply based on my breathing. The dim setting in the room and the light music playing in the background could put any crack addict to sleep.
All the staff was extremely nice. When they overheard that I was hungry, they immediately brought over some fruit and a granola bar. Whenever someone talks about a great spa, I interrupt and tell them about this place. I'll be back very soon with friends.

My sister and I stayed here back in January of '06. Even though it was 50 degrees outside, we were one of the only rooms booked in the entire place. The nippy air was actually refreshing. The cuisine - memorable!Service was incredible. And, there's free wine and cheese in your room and at every turn. I slept on a plush mattress with a glorious fire crackling in my room. The spas services were first rate: from the heated stone massage, to the merlot body wrap, to the hydrotherapy bath, to invigorating grape seed body scrub; I was more than impressed. This is a place I would consider returning to for an anniversary - that's how special it is!

Totally romantic. I took my gf here for her birthday and we both feel in love with the place and with each other (the first time the "ILU's" were exchanged).
We were there March 2004. When we got there we were amazed. You're not in Sonoma, you're not in California....it literally feels like you're in some Tuscan home in Italy.
They have multiple pools with different sizes and depths. They have a private hot tub where you can go in and lock the door. The grounds are very well kept up and never look bad. I got the romantic package which included a message for 2 in your room in front of a fire and a bottle of campaign.
Prices aren't as high as the Sonoma Inn or the Carneros Inn which is cool since the grounds are smaller, but more romantic. Book far in advance if you want a specific weekend.

Me and my boyfriend recently stayed one night on 1/11/09 and must say...its' absolutely amazing and beautiful. We had our private front and back patio with fireplace (#16). We got to our room and had scheduled a 3pm appointment with Desiree (massage for him) and Tanya (facial for me). Words cannot describe how good we felt afterwards. In addition, we ordered the chocolate mousse cake from the Bistro Menu and it was delicious!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The next morning, we had breakfast which was also to die for. Carl, the manager, was really nice too and made sure we were having a great time. I would stay everyday here if I could and highly recommend it to others. I hope your stay at the Kenwood Inn and Spa is a great, relaxing experience like ours.
I wish I could add more *************************************!! I happened upon this little gem while searching for a quick getaway from the city before starting a new job. What a FIND! As a seasoned world traveler and luxury resort conniessuer, this place is by FAR the best I've ever experienced. They leave nothing to the imagination. From fresh roses in the room, candles, fresh fruit, luxury linens, CD player, 3 course breakfast, fireplace, balcony.....and that's just the tip of the iceberg. 3pools, 2 of which are warm, natural spring water with flowing fountains..beautifully landscaped gardens....I could go on for days. The Spa is decent, not the best but not the worst, but I'm a bit picky in that regard.
Both times I've stayed have been solo trips (sadly) This is a very romantic place-- or perfect to just relax and revel in how grand life is.
My fave!

I took my spouse for the spa treatments. We did not stay at the hotel. As everyone notes, the grounds are wonderful. For a Friday afternoon, we literally were the only two people there, although the spa concierge said the place and the spa were booked for Friday-Sunday. After an enjoyable lounging in the sauna and jacuzzi, we each had the massage and men's facial. The deep tissue massage was nice, although I will have to say that it was not a 'relaxing' experience. Lots of elbow digging into the muscles as opposed to deep tissue management. We are both regular massage patrons, so I know a good treatment when I experience one. The masage therapist said she was a 13 year veteran. I think she needs to go back to school for some refresher courses. The facial was basically annoying. Again, instead of a relaxing experience, the esthetician was a bit rough on the exfoliation, and there was so much distracting clanging of equipment, and she even decided to 'wash the tin dishes' in the sink which was right behind my head. How annoying can that be? I get the feeling that she does not work on many men. The extractions she did were actually painful, and there is a particular way of working with a man's facial skin due to the facial hair.
For the amount of money that was spent on this day (over $600 for two), I would rather go to the extremely experienced therapists at Osmosis. I chose Kenwood this time because of the location to where we stayed in Kenwood. Next time I will make the drive to Osmosis.
The Conde Nast article ranking Kenwood #3 in the US, combined with the reasonable package price, hooked me. Upon arrival, the front driveway was all torn up - an omen? Internet never worked for me, no TV in the room (maybe I would like to play a movie or see the news?), the stereo lacked an MP3 input, the little jars of shampoo, etc., needed an instruction manual to use. They messed up our booking - never sent a confirmation - and then tried to double (yes, double) the fee for the experience. I asked for some info about a winery, telling the woman at the time that I needed the info by next morning as that was my wine touring day, and got the info the next day when I was checking out! The treatments? I can't say I was rejuvenated by them, like I would be after a good massage at a Chinese spa (which by the way is 1/10th the cost and way, way better service). No room safe, no room refrigerator, no coffee maker, nothing... The architecture is faux Tuscan, and the place is plunked down at the edge of the woods, where it makes no sense. Overall, they tried hard, but were disorganized and poorly trained. I would not go there again, unless I was being treated at no charge.
It's been a few years since I stayed here, but I had to write a review. WONDERFUL place! Husband & I stayed here on our honeymoon and I'm dreaming about the day we go back. Definitely pricy, but worth it if you're looking for a romantic location. Only drawback is that it's right on the main road, but if your room is located in the back, you're fine. We didn't hear the road at all. Loved it!!!
Soooooo romantic. My cousin arranged for her bridal party to come here in the morning and early afternoon to get ready before her ceremony. It is right across the street from the Kunde Winery on Highway 12. I have not yet stayed here but after the experience we had, I plan to come back to enjoy the spa and inn as a romantic getaway with my honey. Very luxurious. The staff was great.
I came to the spa for a day of pampering with a girlfriend, and although it was on the pricey side, I decided to splurge on a massage and facial after reading rave reviews. In my experience, the spa was very pleasant, but I have to admit that I was a little disappointed by the disparity between what I paid and what I received.
First I got a 50-minute massage, which was nice, but priced a bit high at $130. While the masseuse was skilled, I did not walk out with the jelly-like state of relaxation I would have hoped for at that price. Next a 50-minute facial was $145, and I requested extractions. Again, the facialist seemed skilled and used a great skin line; however, the extractions were minimal (and fyi, the aesthetician has a policy of not using lancets). After being accustomed to a facialist in L.A. who does thorough extractions, I was disappointed by the wine country facial, which did not leave me with the clear skin I'm accustomed to after a facial. If you want a super gentle facial that just exfoliates the skin, this is a great place to go. However, if you're the type that mainly goes to facials for extractions, this is not the place to do that.
On the plus side, the ambiance at Kenwood Spa is tranquil and the staff was incredibly nice. But overall, it came short of expectations. I live in L.A., which is not known as a cheap place, and nice spas routinely offer a number of amenities such as wide magazine selections and cheese/cracker platters. Given what you are paying, I did not feel that Kenwood went that extra mile to offer the little extra touches and level of service that a spa that charges the prices they do should provide. In sum, anyone who goes should know in advance that he/she is paying a premium for the wine country setting.
Stayed in the Jr. Suite, which was heavenly - the jacuzzi was deep and large, real fireplace, plenty of room and romantic lighting. The complimentary breakfast was delicious - fruit, omelet, sausage, granola. Treat yourself to a relaxing stay! If you book online the day before and they lose your reservation, you might get upgraded too!
This is such an amazingly beautiful spa, you feel transported to Italy. They only use Caudalie products which works for me since I use them. Be sure to save your pennies, this spa is very expensive.

I didn't stay in the hotel, but went to the spa for a few treatments with my best friend. It was AMAZING. Beautiful location ~ Tuscan Villa style. I'm a huge Caudalie fan and this spa is straight out of Bordeaux wine country - the grape seed scrub is to die for, facial was fabulous, and products smell like heaven...and all the girls that work there are very sweet. I will definitely go back.

I took my wife here for her birthday and we had a great time. I could not get her in for a facial as it was booked, so we went for masages. My wife generally is so-so on massage, but we both came away very pleased with the treatment and the oh-so wine country atmosphere. The pool area is awesome and you just want to grab a chaise lounge and read or relax. The staff were excellent and the amenities beautiful. We will go again.

This place is fabulous! My husband and I have been going here for over a decade and never tire of the place. We love this place so much that we got married here! I have only praise for this fabulous inn though must admit that I was nervous when they decided to expand a few years ago as I was afraid the intimate setting was going to be lost with the expansion. Fortunately, the charming Tuscan Villa feeling is still intact and remains to be our favorite local getaway. I think this place is best for couples as it is so very romantic and a wonderful place to spend time together if you know what I mean. Children should only be made here and there are better-suited places for a girl's getaway. Let this be the place you share with that someone special. The spa is wonderful as are the products (who doesn't love Caudalie) and the breakfast is consistently superb. I can't wait to return. Unfortunately, we have not been here since the end of 2006, I understand that the ownership has changed and I am hoping when we go there at the end of the month our experience will be as wonderful as always.......to be continued.
