When I heard this was a Kentucky specialty store, I expected to find bourbon, tobacco, guns, and Wildcat paraphernalia. Needless to say, that's not what I found. Instead, an artful collection of pottery, crafts, ornate linens, and other old timey sorts of items. But these aren't mere decor; they're all usable and meant to be used.
If you want bluegrass-style entertainment while wandering through the old Kentucky Haus, stop in on the weekends when banjo pickers or craft masters are often visiting. The only thing missing is a mint julep and some burgoo.
This is a local crafts cottage featuring items from Berea College, Bybee Pottery, Louisville Stoneware and handcrafted jewelry. As a new resident to Northern Kentucky, I was looking for Christmas gifts with a local flavor. I found several at Kentucky Haus: handmade glass ornaments, local cookbooks, seasonings and regional artwork.
The employees are helpful and knowledgeable and the location is easy to find. With lots of flavored teas and coffees in stock, the cottage also smells great! The store frequently holds special events and author signings; check the web site for a schedule.
