Kensington Farmers' Market
4 reviews for Kensington Farmers' Market
A new farmers' market started up in Kensington at the end of June. It takes place on Sundays from 10AM to 2PM. I have been told that the market is the brainchild of the Arlington Baking Company and Rabbit Ears, the pet store in the parking lot off Arlington Avenue that's across Arlington from the Chevron station. The market takes place in this parking lot and currently has around 10 vendors. There has been live music most of the Sundays (and maybe even all of them). Among the vendors are the Hudson Fish Company that I reviewed yesterday and the Arlington Baking Company. There are flowers, olive oil, berries, tomatoes, peaches, zucchini, and plenty more. Although the market is less than 8 weeks old, it attracts a large number of residents of Kensington and many people who are passing through. The market is easy to notice if you drive along the Arlington and is an obvious place to browse if you're waiting for a brunch table at Inn Kensington. It's already not at all bad, and it seems to have a bright future.

Since I'm currently the only reviewer for this farmers' market, I'd better update the review! About 6 weeks ago, the market moved down (i.e., west) to Colusa Circle, home of Post Meridian, the Kensington Circus Pub, and other fine establishments. The market operates on the street that runs along with north side of Post Meridian, which is maybe Berkeley Park Blvd. It has more room than it had in its old location, so it can definitely grow. At the moment, it's still a fairly modest operation (nothing like the Temescal market in Oakland, which is open at the same time!), but new vendors are apparently going to trickle in.
We're told that Berkeley Park Blvd. is going to become a 1-way street. (I imagine that it will flow west, but I could well be wrong!) The street is of course closed to traffic on Sunday mornings when the farmers' market takes over.

A small, but very pleasant Farmers' Market in Kensington at the Colusa Circle - it has vegetables, fruits, breads and pastas, seafood, eggs, some plants (that may depend on the time of year?), vinegars, marmalades and a hummus stand. And, although I haven't seen them recently, some great Indian food; they bring down an oven and make the Naan right before you.
It's great for kids and there's live music!

This is a fairly small market, but it has everything one needs for a week of good meals: vegetables, fruits, seafood, meat, fresh pasta and bread (from Phoenix Pastificio!!! Yay!!!)... It's so great to be able to just grab a basket and walk over there to get fresh food every Sunday.
A little gem of a farmers' market, right in my own backyard. On Sundays, I enjoy a nice long run, make a pit stop at the market and head back up the hill with a napsack full of delicious fruit and bread. Of course, by the time I arrive home, most of it is just a delightful memory...
