A trip to Ken's can be something of an ethical dilemma for me. Sometimes, I look down my list of potential purchases, and the "staple" foods are almost always MUCH more expensive than the same things at the "Way that is Safe". It's kind of silly to pay $4 more for the exact same brand and bag of sugar. Sorry, Ken.

I usually spend my money at Ken's on their really good produce (like brussels sprouts and chanterelles!), niche products like all-raw heirloom coconut bars, and for the boyfriend, deli meats that don't seem like they were extruded from a vat-grown Turkey™.

Also, beer! Yay, beer.

Tiny place - kickass smart selections. You name it. Produce, wine, beer, bread, meats, coffee beans, house cleaning stuff, fish, even chips! It's like the market that everyone wishes they could open. And if you're an Upper QA'er - the convenience factor can't be topped (zing! see what I did there? Top? Of Queen Anne? Sorry.) Mayyyybe a couple of the prices are a wee bit higher than the monster chain up the street. But it's cheaper than Metro Market! Mos def.

Plus they write some funny isht on the big board outside. Gotta love a place that has humor.

I will have to start out by saying I really like Ken's!  Their produce section is cheap and in season, even though smaller than a larger grocery store (e.g. Safeway).  When ever I have had questions about produce they have been able to answer it and tell me where they get their from.  I guess a small local grocery stor has to differentiate themselves somehow and Ken's does so with their awesome produce.
Additionally, their beer selection is great and well thought out.  The beers they have run the gambent of style and tastes.  Their staff is funny and always happy to help.

The reason they do not get five stars is their prices.  Their canned items can be quite pricey compared to the larger stores more so than I would think their small size mandates.

All in all a great business which I enjoy supporting.  I would be sad if it ever went  away and will certinaly support it when I go produce shopping.  If you live in Queen Anne check it out.

I feel bad not giving Ken's 5 stars, 'cos I like them so much, but some of the prices hurt my teeth.

Their four glorious orange stars are for a clean, well-stocked shop with just a li'l bit of everything, fresh goods and friendly employees, and most importantly, for being open late even though there was fresh snow on the ground.  So while the bulk of my groceries come from the WHORE, FILTHY SLOPPY DRUNKFACED WHORE Safeway, I will shop at Ken's when I need a quick fix and be extremely grateful they are there.

Thanks Ken's!  *Winnk!*

Ken's is a great little local grocery joint..... but holy moly is it expensive!

Super Convenient, super nice people work there and they have some great stuff.

They have an awesome section of deuce-deuces with some great specialty and micro brews.

Good wine and cheese selection too. They've got some amazing looking Mac & Cheese at the hot counter I haven't tried yet... But I will try it for sure at some point.

I like this join cause it's only a few blocks from my house and way less of a headache than Safeway.

They also have a Bank of America ATM inside- which is super convenient.

I like this place but fear it's going to suffer now that the economy blows. We'll see.......

This is a great place to stop if your single or your not a coupon cutter. I love the sliced fruit they offer and also the prepared food they sell to go that tastes like Grandma use to make. I have stopped here just to get my mashed potatoes and turkey gravy fix that reminds me of home every time. When I do my bulk shopping I will hit other stores, but if I am in a hurry and want a quick to go meal or have a small list I stop here when I can.

For a neighborhood store this is as good as it gets. Yes it is tiny, random, and a little cramped but those are just counterpoints to a charming and progressive store.

Ken's Market Queen Anne reminds me of an old love- my Markettime in Fremont. The moment I walked in- on a whim and in need of a green pepper- I was excited to find a clone of my grocery love right by my new house. It is on the expensive side- but with great selection and service this can be ignored.

Ken's Market has organic, pre-packaged/homemade, specialty line, prepared for cooking, hard to find ingredients, traditional, & fresh food all in one tiny magnificent cramped space. With some things like hot sauce, wine, and beer Ken's had more selection then some of the big boys. Also, there was a few items that I only find once in a while and I found that Ken's carries them daily.

My visit here included touring every aisle, smiles of joy, a judgment stop at the wine section, and picking up what I needed for dinner. My green pepper was fresh and the green beans I picked up came cleaned, cut, and packaged for cooking.

I live pretty close to this place and I LOVE everything they have. Prepared meals-great, wine selection-great for a small store, AND they have Snoqualmie ice cream. Once the checker accidentally gave me a free one so I keep going there in hopes it happens again.

Everybody should have a "Ken's" on their street corner. Countless times I have forgotten one essential ingredient and Ken's, standing their stoically shaking it's head in utter disappointment, has bailed me out... yet again.

This isn't to say Ken's is like some 7-11 or other convenience store. They have an assortment of fresh fruits and vegetables as well as some ready-to-cook meals from their kitchen in back that, though I haven't yet tried them, look very tasty.  The wine and beer section will do in a pinch for even your most snobby of friends whom, having just decimated your liquor cabinet, would have no right to complain anyway.

The staff is fantastically friendly and often are on a first name basis with their shoppers.  It is a fairly small shop, and the prices are higher than a regular grocery store, but such are the burdens of convenience.

We had just moved into the area from San Diego and after reading the great reviews we got geared up to go shopping at the local market. Except it's about as stocked as a 7-11. You've got a few basics, a lot of alcohol, and some other random items. All for way more than you would pay if you just went a mile further to Trader Joe's, Safeway, or the Metropolitan Market. Sorry Ken's, but you're not worth the trip.

Who's got opinions?  I got opinions!

Which one isn't true?

I love Ken's because:

1) The food selection is great, if a tiny bit expensive
2) They play their rock-star employees music over the PA
3)  The people that work there are funky cool people
4)  It's 2 blocks from my house
5)  One has gots to eat...

It's a fantastic local market!

Ken's is the shiznit. I lived down the street from there for 3+ years and the people there: always friendly. Sometimes my roomies and I would meet up with them at Targee's Tavern after hours and shoot pool. Anyways, this isn't going to be a grocery store like Safeway.. if you need basics they got em. If you want deli foods, they got em. If you want a surprisingly GREAT beer selection... they got it! The QA community loves Ken's and it shows. I miss you!

I've been going to Ken's since I was old enough to forge my momma's name on checks!  Now I'm looking forward to the day my daughter can do the same, only with my debit card and PIN!

If we have to pack a quick lunch for school, my daughter heads straight for one of the small veggie trays, a mini bagel with cream cheese, a small bag of chippies and a V8 ... it's so nice to get them all in one fell swoop, instead of trekking through Safeway.

The refrigerated drink selection (up to and including Carly's "Beer" comment) is awesome, with singles of stuff that you've probably never heard of - I know I hadn't!  And hey, I'm pretty sure the candy's still in the same place it was when I was in 3rd grade at Coe back in 1984!

I have a special place in my heart for Ken's ... =0)

I stop in to this place every morning for a bagel and a piece of fruit. It doesn't really look like much when you walk in. Very crowded and the aisles are really close together, seems like there is no way you'll ever find anything. Then you meet the employees, who are FANTASTIC! They are there to help you with everything, there is never a shortage of friendly faces grocery store attendants. There is never a time that I walked into Ken's with out someone saying hello. They know everyone who stops in and if your new to Ken's they still treat you as if you have been shopping there for years.
The few times I have stopped in to get a bit of lunch at their deli has never once been disappointing. Yes a little spendy, but generally pretty tasty.
The store it's self carries mostly your basics and ALOT of organic. Everything a "Queen Anne" mom loves to buy. My one complaint is that everything is price at least a quarter of the price more than going to a regular grocery store.
If your ever on Queen Anne and need something quick definitely stop in at Ken's.

I am in love with this place.  Everyone who works there is super friendly, and you get an enthusiastic greeting every time you walk in--even when they're busy.  The selection of wine is great, especially for such a small place.  I mainly use them for a quick lunch, since they're right up the street from where I work.  Ken's totally supports my laziness, since they have pre-cut small trays of veggies, without which my eating habits during the day would seriously suffer.  They also have great prepared foods, both meat and veggie friendly, and tasty soups.  Really though, the people are what make Ken's such a midday pleasure for me.  Though, the proximity of excellent chocolate to the check-out counters is a little snarky, preying on people like me with no self-control.

Gourmet corner store market - you can get all the basics (eggs, milk, sugar, flour, toilet paper) in a pinch plus all those gourmet, and often local, bits that make things special -  truffle oil, gruyere cheese, tulips, good wine. They have both prepped food (i'm lazy, i often get the pre-cut strawberries) and fresh foods. They are committed to carrying local brands and the staff is friendly and helpful. I feel blessed to have a corner market that is so well stocked and convenient.

I like this local market.  It's small but warm and friendly.  The wine selection is actually very good...a great stop on your way home from the office, pick up a nice bottle of wine and the essentials for a great meal.  It's quite accessible, easy to get in and out...and they have good coffee at the coffee stand.
