Great place for the body, mind, and soul. I was driving down La Cienga and saw signs for a State Park. There are several things to do here; they are all on a hill. Drive up and stop, drive up further and see more. So many wonderful views!!! There are a few different walking and hiking trails. The maps are located at the community center near "staff parking lot."

The lake at the bottom has all the ducks, so watch where you step! As you drive up the hill, there's a nice stream with bridges. Cute area to have a picnic. Drive up further and see a large open space for running and other sporty stuff. Drive up further...oh steep hill. and park at one of the 2 parking lots. There is an equipment area to workout and lots of walking and hiking trails!!! There are restrooms at the top, but close at sunset. it gets packed after 5 during the summer. The winter months have been pretty vacant.

I love taking my son here! We always go during the week so parking is free. Apparently its $6 on the weekends and holidays.

There are 3 playgrounds... I saw another review that said 2 but there are 3... you keep going along the road and go up the hill and there's another playground. Which is the best id say purely for the fact that you have a beautiful view of all of LA.

There also a pond with a waterfall and stream. It makes a beautiful spot for pictures. There's ducks and I believe you can fish but don't take my word for it

I docked 1 star for having to pay $6 to get in for parking.

Other than that, this place is gorgeous.

I pass by this place EVERY week on my way to work driving down La Cienega.

    Passed those oil pumps.

My buddy got married and after the church-thing we came here to take pictures and ran into an asian themed section. Truly something I didn't think I was going to run into.

I'll be back here to explore and hopefully not get mauled by a mountain lion, or step in a pile of gooey oil or something.

This is a great place to walk or exercise with kids during the day.  There are many different grassy areas, playgrounds, and walking trails to explore.  Plentiful parking.  The "hiking" trails are more like walking trails and can easily be done with small kids, and some lead to great views of the city.

We parked at the community center and walked up a hill to the green "valley" which is more like a large open bowl with a 0.8 mile walking path around it.  The valley is beautiful with green grass and trees and it's shocking to find such a large open place in West LA.  Dogs are allowed and are supposed to be on leashes, although I saw at least a couple running free.  Most of the owners seem conscientious, but I did see one pile of dog poop on the grass which is kind of a downer and makes me more reluctant to let my kids run free.

The man made lake and stream look really nice and there are ducks you can feed.  We went on a weekday, late morning and there were a lot of joggers/walkers there, but it was very quiet and peaceful.  It's a great place to bring kids if they have a day off from school and you're looking for an uncrowded playground.

Lovely hill park tucked in the middle of busy LA neighborhood!  The main drive winds slowly along grassy fields and tree groves, with a few parking lots along the way to the top.  Playgrounds, ponds with wild fowl and a babbling brook and a footbridge.  Great place for walking and playing with the dogs.  My Eskimo went berserk at the sight of the ducks and ran straight for them, leaping into the water.  He came up paddling, barely disoriented, waded to shore, shook himself off and decided it was great fun!
We were there on a sunny weekday afternoon: no fee for parking and using the park; a few people using the picnic tables or fishing around the pond.  Quiet, lovely place!  A treasure to come back and visit.  Restrooms and vending machines, water fountains, all the amenities!

I love nature and exercising outdoors. This is the perfect place to get a great workout with the kids and the the dog. (on the leash)

We either go take a walk on the side with the man made lakes and waterfall. Or we go for the trails on the opposite side, which we just discovered last week. It's so cool that there are so many different trails to try. You can just spend hours there walking/hiking. It's perfect in the afternoon/evening.

I like to mix it up and change the locations where we work out. This is definitely on the list for when I'm in the area.

    Four playgrounds
    One half basketball court
    One fishing lake
    Two lighted baseball diamonds
    One lit multi-purpose field
    One sand volleyball court
    Lots of bathrooms

It's not packed and it's easy to find parking.. plus it's free during the weekdays. At least it is in the evenings. On the weekends they charge for parking and it's busier.

Make sure you stay away on Easter. This place is beyond packed then.

    Cons:
-The freeway or street right next to the trails, so it's loud and not so scenic.
-Certain parts have a lot of litter.

Fun place to workout.  We have used the main track at the very top of the park as well as one of the trails that run off of that track.  My only gripe is that they charge $6 for on the weekends.  While it might keep the riff-raff out, it is a little annoying and will keep me from visiting during that time.  The park is well kept and the streams and lakes make for pretty scenery.

Oh yeah; AMAZING views off of some of the trails!!

Finally went there on a weekday after reading here that they only charge on weekends.  I actually looked for a back entrance one day and could not find it as it is completely fenced off.

After first driving in, you immediately see a nice lake which is surrounded by stones and connected to a stream with waterfalls.  Large playground and picnic areas fill out the lower level.  Going up the hill reveals the next level of the park along the ridge.  There is a huge valley with a trail that circles it, a workout area and a couple viewpoints of Los Angeles.

There are some long trails on the slopes of the Baldwin Hills that I passed on my first visit.  I spent two hours just walking around the main parts so this place is worth the visit.

I had never heard of Kenneth Hahn Park until my friend suggested we go there for our weekly workout; boy was I impressed! It was smaller than I expected but the place was super cute and clean so I didn't mind.

So, this was our first time there and while we were doing our laps around the park, we noticed, what looked like an exit, behind the community center. We didn't bother walking over there because we assumed it was an exit...but of course, it was not! After our workout we decided to check it out and drove up the hill. Low and behold, IT WASN'T AN EXIT! The park extended up the hill and on top? More playgrounds and a vast green field with trees. Picnic anyone?? It was a gorgeous view and so breathtaking.

BTW, It's best to come in the morning before 12. I went there at around 9:30 and it was fairly empty but by the time it was 11 or so, people were piling in.

It has great picnic areas, a beautiful stream, pond, waterfall.  You can also walk about the hill to a circular walking/jogging trail.  Awesome!

It costs $6 to park on the weekend.

    ****#157 of 365 things to do in L.A. (http://365losangeles.b... )***

Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area in Culver City offers much more than your average park. Even with a $6 parking fee, this is a park that I would come back to again and again.

Trying to find this hidden gem was a bit tricky, and we initially missed the turn-off. You can't see the park from the main road, but when you start seeing oil rigs, know that you're close. Once we got in, we parked in the nearest lot by the man-made lake and watched little kids feed the ducks.

We then followed the path to some man-made waterfalls and streams. There were people fishing, bbq-ing and having family get-togethers all around. The path eventually led us to the community center where I grabbed a hiking map, then we continued following the road up the hill to where it dead ends at a parking lot. Once up there, we went to the right on a wide dirt road, hoping to find the trails. There are a lot of cleared areas with a wonderful view of downtown here. We saw a family picnicking and a guy taking pictures of his pee-wee herman bike leaned against a tree with the city in the background.

At the metal stake in the road that says "Warning, petroleum pipe underneath, don't dig," we turned left and continued a short ways until there was a narrow dirt trail to the left (it's the first left). We took that narrow dirt trail which ended up being Ron's Trail. Ron's Trail twists and turns along the side of a hill and overlooks Fairfax. We took that fragrant trail about 25 minutes or so until it took us back to the parking lot. It was a nice walk--perfect for people who don't want a full-out hike, but do want to be in nature for a while.

Overall, our visit took about 1.5-2 hours, but you could easily spend twice that amount of time exploring everything this park has to offer. This is also a great park for little ones and dogs on leashes.

Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Park is awesome!!!

This was my husband, grand daughter's and I first time at the park and was blown away by the awesome scenic views of the water ponds, streams, waterfall, play areas and picnic areas. There is also a community center and a sheriff station on site.

There is a small fee to go into the park but is totally well worth it. The park was clean and the people were friendly.  We will definitely recommend this park to our families and friends. My husband, granddaughter and I are planning to go back soon for a picnic and do some nature walking.

Our grand daughter is six years old and enjoyed the park very much and is looking forward to going back!

I have been accessing this park for several years now.  It's a place I come to picnic, fish, hike, and relax.  In my opinion this park is largely unused and unknown to a great many people.

When you first enter you will notice a guard shack.  Admission is $6.00 for passenger vehicles.  The entrance attendant may or may not be present on your visit.  Keep going and you will see the lower portion of the park and a small parking lot.  This lot fills up fast and if you plan on fishing parking here is a must.  Otherwise you will have to park further up and trek to the water.

Speaking of fishing, this park has three small ponds.  The larger of the ponds is where most of the fishing will be done.  It is not a large body of water but there are fish present.  Fish and game stocks it periodically with catfish and trout depending on the season.  There are also small bass and panfish present.  For those that want to practice casting, this is a perfect place to practice casting flies, lures, and jigs.

Back to the park itself.  Keep driving past the water and on the left are open areas for picnics and a playground for children.  There is also a Japanese garden.  You will eventually hit a community center.

But wait there is more.  Keep going on the winding narrow road and you will find more picnic areas and a large open area with great views of hills and of Los Angeles.

All in all this facility is clean and offers a lot to those that want to utilize it.  So bring the family and the dog and have fun.

BTW if you want to secure a spot for a picnic, arrive early and grab a table.  It's first come first served here.

I don't know how  to rate this place. On one hand if you come on the weekdays it's free ($6 weekends and holidays), so how can you not give it 5 stars? On the other hand, the hiking trails are a bit weak, information on these trails or on the park itself is hard to get (the main office didn't have any more copies of maps when I first went to the park), and although the mornings are safe with older people walking/jogging around the afternoons can be fraught with lots of shady characters smoking weed and acting straight ghetto. Also, you have to avoid the traffic jams that occur regularly on La Cienega between 7-9am and 3-7pm. For that, I personally say this place is cool and I'm grateful for it, but only when I have time to go there mid-morning when I can truly enjoy the scenery, which is lovely.

Thank you, Yelp! Otherwise, I would have never known about this park (that is only 10 minutes away from me).

Huge park with many different areas..a lake and 2 different play structures (one for small kids, the other for larger, or older kids).

I was shocked that we had to pay $6 for parking on New Year's Day. I erroneously thought no one would be working on this Holiday. Oh well...the $6 parking fee was well worth it.

One parent tip: be forewarned that it isn't easy to traverse this park with a stroller...lots of stairs!

I never knew this park existed till Sat. I thought it was a very nice and clean park. Very pretty with ponds and ducks, people having family bbq's and other events. The parking is 6.00 on the weekend and is open from sunrise to sunset. I enjoyed the smaller hiking trails but would have to say that the map given for the hiking trails is nowhere being accurate (had to mention that for my hiking buddies). I would like to go back and try the 7 mile hike that states has waterfalls

AAHH The Quinceañera Park! Everyone comes here on their Quinceañera to take pictures.

I revisited this park a few weeks ago and had a great time. The lake with the ducks, fish, and turtles was there. The waterfall was there. The bridge was there. The picnic area was there. The kids playground was there. It was all there! Beautiful place to take a stroll or play with the kids. We were feeling adventureous so we decided to follow the trail heading up to the hill. The have a hiking trail, and at the very top, there is another playground! Never knew about it until today. The negatives were that it smelled of oil (there was some heavy machinery up there as well) and although it has a breathtaking view of Los Angeles, also visible was the thick cloud of smog over us. Wow, we breath this stuff in every day. Other than that, there is no charge for parking during the weekdays, I believe it was $6 or $8 for parking on the weekends.

    FIVE STARS!

The grounds are beautiful here, but the fishing is terrible!

You have many old men, who pester you to see your fishing permit (yet refuse to show you theirs) and unless you get there within 2 days that the fish are planted, many of the fish will have already been poached.

However, it is a beautiful park which is great for hiking and picnics!

What a great place to get away from the city while still in it. I always take my pit bulls here for a walk and they love the wilderness of it. The lake side is also great and relaxing. Although parking is $5-10 through the La cienega entrance you can save yourself that by parking on don lorenzo and enter through the La Brea side. This park also has intense trails for walking/running/biking. Park closes at sun down to cars but bikers are more then welcome til they please, I would ride my bike with friends at night with light, intense! More owls and hawks and night though...check it out fun place, everyone needs to get out of this city for a while just to stay sane!

I've been coming here since I was a kid. There's always family parties going on. It can get crowded parking wise but the park is big enough that you won't notice.

It's very well maintained and has gotten prettier over the years. There's lots of hiking trails to try, none are too difficult. Beware that there's little cactus thorns pretty much all over the trail paths.

They let you bring your dogs with you all over the park. Their only rules are keep em leashed and clean up after them.

You're not supposed to go into any of the ponds but people do. I've seen plenty of people getting wet under the waterfall. I've also seem lots of people eat it on the rocks trying to cross the stream.

On the way home from dropping my boyfriend off at LAX, I stopped at this park to take my dogs for a walk. I can't believe what a gem it is. Well kept rolling greens, native gardens, big trees, a river, a pond, where I saw a crane and a ton of other water birds, and tons of hiking trails.

It was there late morning on a Friday, and there was no one taking the $6 parking fee. I looked for the self-pa station, but couldn't find it, so I just went in for free. There weren't many people in the park. It felt like we could have walked for hours on the easy hiking trails, hearing little more than birds chirping and the far-off rumble of a lawn mower.

A minor downside to the beautiful landscape is the Baldwin Hills oil rigs in the distance, which are visible from time to time. But that's slight.

Get ready to feed the ducks!

My family tries to go as frequently as possible to the lake area. There are lots of ducks and the area is always peaceful. We have yet to meet anyone refuses to smile as we cross paths.

The oil production in the background takes away from the lovely views one can get while hiking around or pic-nicing under the shade of a tree.

In the middle of the industrial wasteland near Baldwin Hills, an emerald hill rises above the scrub and the oil derricks like an empress above the Serengeti...no, wait, that might overstating it just a little bit.  It's not exactly Kilamanjaro, but it is a surprising amount of beauty in the middle of nowhere.  There's a little lake, a little stream - with fish, apparently.  There's lots of green and the whole thing just keeps winding upwards through wooded areas, lots of playgrounds and play structures, paths, bridges, picnic areas, lawns, and native scrub.  There are miles of trails, and rumors of a waterfall (I didn't see it, but there's a trail called the Waterfall Trail, so I'm thinking...must be a waterfall somewhere around here!)  There are baseball diamonds, volleyball pits...this place is huge!

Anyway, it's a little bit to the east of where La Cienega expands to the size, width, and speed of a miniature freeway, and you can easily speed by it, but it's worth a stop - but give yourself plenty of time to do some exploring.  See you there one of these days!

Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area was rated by Nike as one of  the top 20  fitness parks in Los Angeles. Get ready to experience one of Los Angeles' hidden treasures.

Yes, the park has acres of picnic tables, ponds, baseball fields and man-made waterfall for those who are looking for this, but the park also has miles of trails that hikers, runners and bicyclists alike use and enjoy everyday. Unlike the other Los Angeles trails full of dog poo and hype, this park actually provides peaceful trails and absolutely breathtaking views.

The trails have hidden access points all around the park. You'd do well to go to the park's office and actually ask for assistance if like Ruth L, you have no clue what to look for.

The first main trail is a fitness trail. The access point is in the first parking lot to your left as you enter the park. Drive into the parking lot and head up a bit and to your right, you'll see an entrance. The sign has information about the trail and wildlife. You can also make your way further up that parking lot and enter the trail through the what appears to be an Asian-themed section of the park. The trail is also accessible from the grassy bowl, but I don't want to confuse you.

There are several trails that run through the park. The trail that I take is beyond the entrance point. Once inside, travel up the road, past the park office and up a steep hill. Basically you drive until you can't drive anymore, assuming you are entering through the main park entrance. There you will find a field (the grassy bowl) the size of three-four football fields and a tar paved road that circles it.

Branching from that grassy bowl are at least 5 pathways that will lead you onto a named trail. You can go down and up what runners call "Devils Peak," which is located near the power tower.  The park even has trails that connect the park to the outside world. You can travel east and go down the Boy Scout trail which will lead you to the outskirts of the park to the Baldwin Hills Corridor trail which provide another 2.5 miles of trail and a steep uphill climb.

The park has a fitness walk trail that provide signs and nutritional information along the way. During the sunset hours, you might spot a photographer there shooting what is probably the best view in Los Angeles when it comes to ocean views, sunsets and a 360 degree view of the city of Los Angeles and beyond.

During the week, you may spot a high school football team hill running on the "bowl," or see the city paramedics there doing their run.  The trails are not crowded..most of the time, you'll be the only one there...with maybe one or two people a great distance behind or in front of you.

During the Summer's most hottest months, this park maintains an ocean breeze that competes with any beach front hiking trail.

The great thing about this park in terms of fitness is that every shape and size is there...and everyone is friendly and about getting fit.  Unlike Hollywood's Runyon Canyon, it's not about people watching. it's about getting fit (at your own level) and experiencing nature.

I took my producer partner from NYC and she didn't want to leave. She said it was one of most peaceful hikes she had ever done.

Here is a link that provide some park info in terms of trails.  I've never used the visitor center for information on the trail. I've just shown up and found them or asked other folks who are there.

It's also a great park for dogs. I take my little dog to the "bowl" area and let her run around. I'm not advocating off-leash dogs, but as you will experience, you may see a dog or two running in the grassy bowl unleased at times--even though it's against the rules. The bowl is like a million miles away from runners and other fitness folks. It consist of yards and yards of grassy fields in a deep valley of bliss.

For me, this is the best park for interval training. It's Los Angeles' best kept secret. It keeps this "oasis in the city" as a special place that only a few Angeles residents will have the privilege to know.

Living in Mid-city L.A. there is not much in the way of pretty scenery or even nice walkable spaces around my house. At least, that is what I thought until I discovered Kenneth Hahn Park.  Just off an unassuming La Cienega exit (where the street really starts to speed up) you will find this gem of a park. Actually, its more like a mineful of gems, due to its wonderful size! Here you can pretend to leave the city behind as you relax by a stream, fish at the the lake, hike one of the trails, play on one of several playgrounds, even visit a semi-secret Japanese garden.
It always touches my heart to see young kids playing around the lake and stream - I am thankful there is something like this in the middle of a busy, industrial section of the city (even if it is man-made).

I was expecting to be overwhelmed by mother nature... instead got overly distracted by all the oil rigs, the questionable looking hoodlums hanging out by the fake lakes and the vagrants roaming about. This place is severely domesticated... and unkempt all at once.

I still come here on occasion to run the Olympic Trail out of convenience, there are some good hills in the Olympic Park area of the recreation. The Japanese garden was disappointing to say the least and the last time I was there someone had tagged the fake waterfall just off to the side of the garden. Good grief!

I can't believe I've lived in LA for ten years, and I had never been to Kenneth Hahn SRA until a few days ago! La Cienega used to be my route to the airport, and I think I've driven by a hundred times!
I've been on a LA photography adventure for the past few weeks, and I'm looking for new and interesting places to get pics of LA. Since it's winter, the skies are clear and you can see forever! Even though the day I was there was still a little hazy, you could see downtown, the Observatory, the Hollywood Sign, and the channel in Marina Del Rey! It was beautiful!
I was able to get some great pics, and I found a new place to get some green time in the city.
There are some fun trails, and a pretty cool path to run. The path is fairly level and not too difficult, and I saw quite a few people running the loop.

Totally underrated and probably one of the Westside's best kept secrets.  This park is HUGE and has plenty of space for kids to run around, areas to have parties, trails to hike and f-amazing views of the ocean, Westwood, Hollywood, Downtown and everything in between.  My favorite part is Janice's Green Valley, which is essentially a huge meadow in a bowl at the top of the hill with some trees.  It's a great place to waste away an afternoon.  The waterfall and the Japanese gardens are nothing special, but still kinda cute (an A for effort).  There's also tons of history on this site.  The Olympic Village for the 1932 Olympics was here and there's more.  Check it at: http://en.wikipedia.or...

Pedestrian access is only available from the neighborhood to the east.  Parking on site is around $4 a car.  There is a bus turnout at the park, but I'm not sure which line(s) get you there.  Call the park at (323) 298-3660 or Metro at (800) 266-6883 for more info, yo!

Fantastic, well kept State Park.  Something for everyone: lots of beautiful hiking trails, easier loops for just walking, picnic areas, kids play areas, even a big pond that's stocked where you can spend the day fishing!
Very safe, great people, busy but never overcrowded, plenty of restrooms and parking.  No fee weekdays but $6 on weekends, or use your California State Parks Annual Pass.
This place is an absolute treasure!!!
