Went to Dr. Butler for the fist time today.  The wait was short.  About 15 minutes.  Then I went into an office, she & I sat together, talked about me, family history, etc.  Then I was placed in the exam room and she was in in about 5 minutes.  She is very personable, nice and chatty, but professional.  She educates as she discusses what she's doing.  She asked me if I had any questions ( at least a couple times.)  The nurses were all friendly, nobody seemed to be rushing me about.  They told me when to expect pap results.

I will certainly be going back here.  It was a very pleasant experience, and I thank Dr. Butler and staff for that.

Seriously DO NOT go to this doctor.  After getting treated poorly by her office staff for years, I finally had enough.  But the worst part was that I suffered for a year with problems, and Dr. Butler refused to help me.  After complaining enough, I finally got her to listen to me. And when the results proved that I had an issue, I couldn't get a 10-minute appointment with her to "discuss" the results for more than six weeks.  It turned out I needed surgery immediately, found a new doctor, and am all fixed up now.  Be very careful of this office and this doctor.

My best friend and I both went to Dr. Butler based on the reviews found here. Unfortunately her office personnel are exceptionally rude and just plain don't care about patients.  Dr. Butler herself was condescending and ignored many of the concerns I had came in about. When I called to get my records not only did they "forget" to send them--they now charge per page to get your own records and lied to me about how it's against the law to fax them although that's what the other office had requested. They seem to be a bill-happy establishment and I will not be going back and I don't even want to get into how horrendous an experience my friend had. Needless to say, this office is not what it should be and is definitely not in the business of helping women.

I am sad to write this negative update. Its hard to find a doctor you love, especially for those usually unpleasant "ladies" visits. Dr. Butler has been good to me during the last two years I've been seeing her. But truly the office staff and the office policies are poor enough to drive me away. Every single time I visit, I wait 15 mins in the waiting room, and then 15-20 minutes shivering naked, save a glorified napkin draped over me in the examination room waiting for Dr. B. She's pleasant enough as far as the exams go, however, when I questioned the birth control I was on, she has refused to discuss other options with me.

Their hours only allow for lunch time visits (at least for me), one of which I had scheduled yesterday. Work was out of control busy and it was impossible for me to sneak away, so I called as soon as I could to reschedule for the next available appt. The receptionist inquired as to the reason I couldn't make it (it felt more like a scolding); I explained I was having a day from hell and couldn't leave the office, my answer didn't seem good enough for her and I was notified of the $25 fee I would incur.

If they are only going to offer their services during work hours in downtown Chicago (meaning 95% of your clients are working women), you have to be sensitive to the fact that unexpected things come up. I spend the majority of my time waiting for Dr. Butler each time I go, and I am positive she didn't give me $25 the time she canceled on me. I've never been late for an appointment, much less missed one, and I specifically asked for the next available. For first time "offenders" who aren't just being flakes, this shouldn't apply. That $25 will be the last they'll see of me.

I've been seeing Dr. Bulter for years and I really like her.  Besides that fact that she knwos what the heck she's talking about, on your first visit you go into her actual office (the one with the desk and chair) and talk abotu why you're there so she can assess if she's the right doc for you.
The only think I hate is the hours.  They're regular business hours so I have to use my lunch hour to go see her.  Luckily I already work downtown but it sucks when the visit takes more than an hour.
Oh and I also hate the $25 fee if you miss an appointment or fail to cancel with 24 hours.  I do understand it, but I think it's bullshit.

My second visit here was a nightmare. First off, I waited over 45 minutes to get in for my appointment- always awesome when you are on your lunch hour from work. Once I actually got in for the exam, I had just a horrible experience with Dr. Butler. I can't really get into any specifics, but I was very disappointed with how condescending and almost insulting she was to me when I brought up some issues I was having. I literally walked out of the office in tears of frustration. I will definitely not be going back to her.

I came to see Dr. Butler because she was the only OB/GYN in my PPO network that I could find with a good review on Yelp! And, as usual, Yelp did NOT disappoint me. Dr. Butler is awesome. She is easy to talk to, answered all my questions, and made me feel comfortable. Pap smears are never very much fun, but she made the experience about as pleasant as it can be.

The rest of the office staff was very nice too. The only slight problem was that it seemed like I had to do a lot of waiting. To be fair, I was 5 minutes late for my appointment (I did call and warn them, though). Still, it seemed like once the nurse took my vitals, I had to wait quite a while for Dr. Butler in her office, and then again in the exam room. From the time I walked into the office until the time I walked out was 1 hour and 15 minutes, but it was my first visit so I guess that's to be expected.

All in all, I'm glad Yelp helped me find a great OB/GYN close to our condo!

I was looking for a doctor in the city and chose Dr. Butler based on her Yelp reviews.  (It didn't hurt that her office is only two blocks from mine!)  When I first called, it was at least a month until I could make an appointment, but that's been my experience with my former doctors as well.

I didn't wait very long in the waiting room, which was good because they need to do some serious redecorating.  Dr. Butler interviewed me in her office, which was so much nicer than getting asked a bunch of questions while you're wearing nothing but a paper towel.  She was friendly and intelligent.  She gave me information on some new birth control options, including a free sample to try the Nuva Ring.

The exam was quick and painless.  When I asked her about the HPV vaccine, she gave me some information but didn't pressure me to do it, since it's $200 up front.

I felt comfortable with her and feel like she is a good choice if you're looking for a regular gyno in Chicago, although perhaps not if you often need to go in at the last minute.

I'm going to echo all of the positive reviews here.

Dr. Butler is fantastic.   She remembers details about your personal life and takes the time to listen.  We chatted for awhile about my recent engagement and wedding plans and I actually I forgot I was at the OB/Gyn!

The staff is very friendly and I will say that the length of a visit varies.  My last trip was quick...in and out in under 45 minutes.  But another time I actually fell asleep and took a nap in my paper gown while waiting for my exam.  But the quality of health care is worth the wait...be it 2 minutes or 20.

Dr. Butler is personable, funny, direct, professional and totally on top of everything.

She has called me personally to discuss test results and answer any questions I may have had.

I recommend her without hesitation.

I want to reiterate all the positives from the other reviews.  I have a patient of Dr. Bulter since I moved to Chicago.  She really is a fantastic doctor.  I appreciate her interest in me as a patient/person.  I have always had good experiences with her staff, her nurses, as well as Dr. Butler.  She's knowledgeable, friendly, and  easy to talk to.  If you're looking for an OB/GYN she's definitely someone I would reccomend.  It can take a while to get an appointment but if you have the time to plan ahead I reccomend calling her.

Yeah, I get it that if a person becomes an ob/gyn they are probably very pro-child.  However, to refuse to accomodate another woman's wishes because she happens to not be pro-child is awful in my opinion.  Add to that a long lecture, rather condescending tone and waxing poetically about the joys of motherhood and you have a real waste of a $50 copay and your lunch hour.

I agree with Lisa B.  Dr. Butler is the best, I wish I could clone her and make all my doctors like her. She is the ideal MD who every other doctor should strive to be like in my opinion. You do have to wait about 10 minutes but she is well worth the wait. She is kind, patient, understanding, personable, knowledgeable and also fun to talk to!  I actually look forward to my pap smears (who would have thunk it???) because I enjoy chatting with Dr. Butler. She's a gem and she really does a good job of note taking because she remembers details about me that even I have forgotten about!   I have never ever experienced a condescending tone with Dr. Butler as Carolynne R had experienced and I am very Pro-Choice.

I have been a patient of Dr. Butler for 5 years now and before that saw Dr. Hite from the same practice.  Both are excellent doctors.  Dr. Butler is a really cool person - very friendly, great memory and takes gives me the genuine feeling that she is taking an interest in my life.  In spite of the fact that I only see her once or twice a year, she recalls important things and will connect them to health discussions if so need be.  I can cleanly recommend her as a smart, conscientious, helpful, super normal gynecologist.  BTW:  for those of you who care about age of your doctors, I would say Dr. Butler is under 40.

I've sent at least 5 girlfriends to Dr Butler over the years, after a girlfriend sent me to her - she's fantastic. She's quick, she's very friendly (but not awkwardly so, considering where she has to work), her staff is nice and she's pain free. She's great about talking with you to find out what's new and going on, if there's anything to worry about, questions, tests to run, etc. before starting the exam. She can take a while to get in to and once you're there there's a good chance your time with her will start 30-45 minutes later than you thought so you should plan ahead, but she's worth it. Totally worth it.

Dr. Butler really is terrific, like everyone says. I really appreciated the in-office interview, and we discussed different dietary options that affect women, along with different pros/cons for birth controls. She's a wealth of knowledge - I would definitely recommend her!

I don't know if Dr. Butler was having a bad day when I met her, but my experience was not like most of the reviewers here. She was indeed friendly and personable, but she didn't actually listen to me regarding the problem that brought me in.  I know she was rushed that day (my appointment for a later time had been rescheduled so she could leave early), but that doesn't mean that I should get a lesser visit.

Also, my problem was not in my head.  A month later, with symptoms still continuing, I went to another doctor who quickly and easily diagnosed it and gave me meds to solve it in less than a week.

UPDATE: I mentioned several other things that I thought were odd when I met Dr. Butler, who didn't respond to them or said they weren't serious. I mentioned the same thing to my regular doc as well, who ran some tests and then sent me to a specialist. Turns out the symptoms are actually pretty serious and could have resulted in cancer or diabetes if I didn't get the treatment I am getting now.

It is so rare that you find a doctor who knows their stuff and is cool!  Dr. Butler is all that and then some!  I saw her a few weeks ago on the recommendation of the woman on Yelp and you guys couldn't be more correct, she is fantastic.  Down to earth, funny, smart and very strong minded.  She and I did not see eye to eye on somethings but it did not make me want to walk out the door or not see her again.  Usually when I disagree with a doctor, I usually don't go back but we just agreed to disagree!  A doctor is supposed to be there to guide you and help you with whatever it is that is wrong with you and give you all the options.  Just because she doesn't agree with you, doesn't mean she is bad. She's too good to walk away from, especially when it comes to your health!
