A tad off the beaten path for winery's in Sonoma County. The grounds are real nice for relaxing enjoying picnic and their wines. All of their wines are really well finished, the reserve chardonnay was simply my favorite, a bit expensive but very good fruit and oak in the finish. Being a resident of Sonoma County, this is one that I recommend stopping in

Whomever the fellow was pouring the wine samples this past Sunday was a real jerk. Other visitors agreed.

Save your time folks - there are plenty of other wineries in the area that appreciate your business much more.

Didn't really get a warm fuzzy feeling from the lady at the bar when we first walked in but then our pourer came out and she was very friendly and knowledgeable.  We were the only ones there so we had a very relaxing and enjoyable tasting.  I ended up purchasing the Pinot Gris and one of their Pinots, I believe it was the La Cruz vineyard that I liked.  I really enjoyed tasting the two pinots, same grape, same wine making, the only difference being the kind of soil it's planted in, pretty cool.

**Side note yelp has a deal here were you get a tour of the vineyards and the winery if you check in but you have to call the day before so they can bring in extra help.  Think I'm going to try that next time.

    First stop of the day.

This winery is super easy to get to from SF, and seriously, GORGEOUS.

    No. Really. GORGEOUS.

The tasting room was fun, our host was very knowledgeable, and they have some excellent wines.

If you're coming up to Napa/Sonoma from the bay, STOP HERE. It's a great way to start the day, and I have to say, we really didn't see another winery the rest of the day that was as beautiful as Keller Estates.

We had a great time at this vineyard. The wine is great. They had 4 to try for free for the Visa Signature tasting. They proceeded to take us on a tour through their caves and their fermenting and bottling facility. This is a very boutique-y winery and a suggested stop for people who like smaller production wines.

Beautiful estate of 650 acres on which the grapes are grown.   The Chinese Yangtze stone architecture of the building and cave. The terrace with tables and swings.

Located in the Petaluma Gap in Sonoma County the climate influences what is grown here and the flavor of the grapes.

The wine was excellent here. We enjoyed the 2007 Pinot Gris, La Cruz Vineyard and a few others. My favorite was the 2004 Syrah, La Cruz  with a yummy lunch.

The owner is a avid car collector, I took a picture of the "Woody" Station Wagon in the center of the tasting room.

Ok kiddies, this is wine tasting at it's finest.  Wow.  Remember that stoplight in the middle of nowhere on the way to Napa up the 101 through Marin to State Rte 37 and always asked why is this light here?

http://www.kellerestat...  Tastings are by appointment.  The most amazing wine.  Chards, Pinot, wow.  McNeill the winemaker, produces two distinct chards.  One typical of California with ml and the other in stainless.  I hosted an event for 800 peeps the other night and the guest could not get enough.

That's  the reason why you turn left there before you hit Infineon/Sears Point.  Make the appointment.  They so rock.

Georgeous estate on lots of acreage is just the tip of the iceberg to the beauty of this winery.  My husband and I had the privilege of finding this winery off the beaten path in time to receive a private tour and tasting.  Exquisite wines and beautiful family history with Dad and his daughters who oversee the winery.  We had the pleasure of meeting daughter Anna on another occasion and she exemplifies the sophistication of this classy latin family of artists and entrepreneurs. Bravo! Don't miss this place!

Well made wine.  6 varietals.  All have  clean, mineral based flavors kissed by abundant fruit.     This wine maker has real talent!

Wine tasting by appointment only.  Tasting room on my visit today had a 1947 Chrysler Town & Country woody sedan on display.  The car was pristine!

Fabulous wine & winery for lower prices than you'd expect.  Some bottles in the low $20 range.

    Excellent!

We called on our way and were given directions, yet when we arrived 15 minutes later, we were told that they were closed.  I write this review because I see this has happened before to other people, so it seems like a pattern for this place.
Granted, we were coming at the very end of their day (which i cringe to do) so I knew we were taking our chances.  Yet  we had called on our way and no one mentioned they were closing early. And when we got there, the woman at the tasting room actually ran up to the front doors to block us from coming in. Kind of tacky.  Instead of just complaining, here are a few suggestions:
       - If you want to close early, list your tasting hours as 11am to 4:30 pm  with last tastings at 4pm.
      - Have the person who answers the phone know if the tasting room is still open (especially if a guest calls en route to the winery).
      - At the very least, don't body block the door to keep your guests from entering when they have driven out to visit you.
I can't review the quality of the wine, but I can say that a visit to Keller Estate Winery is an experience worth skipping.

update - after writing this review, I received an email from Ana Keller saying how sorry that she was and offering a personal invitation to the winery. A very nice gesture.

I had a glass of Keller Estate wine at the Petaluma Art and Garden Fest a couple of years ago and liked it quite a bit.
Being a wine lover and someone that makes it a point to buy local when possible, I wanted to visit the winery and sample their other offerings.
On 3 or 4 occasions since then I have made calls to the winery (a few days in advance) only to be told they were not open for tasting or had a private event scheduled.
(Closed for tasting on a weekend?????)
Yesterday while driving by I noticed they had balloons hung from their sign on Lakeville Hwy.
I asked one of the guys "directing traffic" if they were open for tasting to the public.
He said yes and sent me up the road to the parking lot.
A guy directing us where to park when we arrived also said that they were open for tasting to the public.
We parked the car and walked about 1/4 mile to the tasting room. (Lovely grounds)
When we arrived, the lady behind the bar (who was pouring for 10 or 12 people already there) said they were closed for a private event and could not taste... She was anything but pleasant....
So... after 4 or 5 tries to give some business to a local winery, enough is enough. There are plenty of other wineries in the area that appreciate (and need) our patronage.

I have not been here on a regular tour.  My husband's cousin is the assistant winemaker here and he has shown us around when the winery was not regularly open.  They are usually open only by appointment.  This place is really cool.  They have a beautiful building and estate.  Mr. Keller also has an extensive classic car collection.  The tasting room is gorgeous and is off of a nice courtyard and sculpture garden.  Now to the really important part.  How is the wine?  They make chardonnays and pinot noirs.  I have only had one of their pinot noirs that had been bottled 2 days before, so it wasn't exactly ready for release.  They pulled the bottle off of the line because it wasn't filled to the proper level, so we just HAD to have it with our lunch.  It was excellent.  So, even after only being in the bottle for 2 days, the pinot noir was great.  I was really surprised that I liked it since I am kind of a pinot noir snob and don't usually think California can make any that are drinkable.  This changed my mind and it wasn't even ready yet!!!!  If you are going to be in the Petaluma area, make an appointment here.  It is a really great place.
