Neighborhood: SOMA"You can't please all the people all of the time, but…
Announced 11 days agoThanks to yelp and the sales person at Keetsa, buying a mattress was surprisingly easy.
Our futon was on it's last leg, so much so that we hadn't slept on it in a month. So I browsed Yelp for some mattress-shopping advise for what I was sure would turn into mattress shopping hell. Up came Keetsa and it's 5 stars. I clicked on their website and was magically transported to mattress shopping heaven. Free shipping included, Eco-friendly, a location near me?! We had to try them out.
Three Sundays later we walked into Keetsa about 40 minutes before they closed. We were immediately greeted by an almost too-friendly sales person. When I meet a person that's almost too-friendly, it makes me very suspicious. Surprisingly, he never tried to push anything. He showed us the more affordable mattresses, gave us his little schpeel on them and then basically just left us alone. When he came back we asked about the other mattresses. He warned us that those mattresses were quite nice but also quite expensive and that if we tried them we might get spoiled.
Quite nice, he said? Well, I wondered exactly how much nicer they were. The ones we had already tried were very good. Less than $500 and you had a good selection of super soft, soft yet firm and super firm. What else could there be? Well, one minute on the Tea Leaf Classic and I was in High Density Memory Foam heaven. Not to say the other mattresses weren't good. They were. I was already sold on the soft yet firm, but since a couple of hundred dollars more was still in the buffet... well, who could resist sleeping on a cloud-like mattress which although soft, still provides the firmness needed in order to avoid those all too familiar bed soars from sleeping on a too-soft mattress.
25 minutes later we walked out having purchased our first mattress (we've had mattresses before, we just had never actually bought one.)
Pretty amazing considering it took me 15 minutes to choose a new lip balm today.

I've heard of wine a box, but a mattress in a box? Say what?! My husband & I just bought an eco-friendly mattress at Keetsa 2 weeks ago and we LOVE it. It's incredibly comfortable and I am a VERY finicky sleeper. Here's the coolest part - it comes in a box! I couldn't believe it when the service person explained it - but it's rolled and when you get home - you take it out of the box and it unfurls. I was very skeptical, but they have a very fair return policy so we went for it and low and behold - ta da - a queen mattress in a box a smaller than a refrigerator box. It fit in our VW Passat!! We literally had a brand new eco-friendly mattress after 90 minutes - home & back. Now we can sleep easy knowing we have a great mattress that doesn't hurt the planet.
This was such a relaxing way to make a significant purchase.
I walk into the store and there's one guy lounging on one bed, and another guy on a different bed. They were chatting, so I just assumed it was customers testing out the beds. It was actually the infamous Andy speaking with a customer. (I didn't figure that out until later) We said "Hi" then I proceeded to lay on a bed.
My boyfriend walks in, to what looks like an opium den I'm sure, everyone just laying on beds in a coma.
Andy was informative, not pushy and we walked out with a queen pillow top and frame. Still happy and LOVED that it was in a box, and that it was inexpensive. That was Dave's favorite - watching the bed unravel and fill up. Very liberating experience. It's kind of like a Chia Pet without the water... And just a huge thanks for having pricing on the website!
This is a shout out to Chris and Joseph for customer service!
I needed a lot of really big pieces of cardboard and I wanted to re-use boxes if I could rather than buying new ones. So I started calling around the city. I managed to get a hold of Chris before their boxes headed to recycling for the day, and he held them for me. Even though I wasn't a customer (if I were shopping for a mattress, I would definitely stop by there again), Chris and Joseph helped me get the boxes into my car, but not before extracting a promise from me that after I'm done using these boxes, I'd recycle them. I don't know, I thought that was cool.
Firstly, the sales staff at this store are great, very helpful and friendly. However, how can they actually claim their mattress are eco-friendly? It's all full of CHEMICALS, inside and out. All made in CHINA. We believe in "truth in advertising", clearly their vision of "eco-friendly" is not the same as ours. Fitting this mattress in your trunk is cool, but at what true costs to your and our earth's health? Masking the chemical smell of memory foam with green tea? The smallest amount of research on memory foam will cure you of the illusion that it is healthy. Perhaps they should advertise themselves as "innovative" instead of "eco-friendly"? If you have children, steer clear of these mattresses, for their sake.
Imagine purchasing a queen-sized mattress and bringing it home in a Audi TT Convertible!!! I never imagined this to be possible....but I did it and it was amazing. I love to tell all my friends about my feat!!
First off, Joe was amazing to work with. He was very friendly and I felt right at home right away. He took me around the showroom to check out the different mattresses and within about 10 minutes, the perfect (and affordable) mattress was loaded in my passenger seat and I was on my way home. He even followed up to make sure everything went okay getting the mattress home.
I wish I could have such an easy and enjoyable experience with other purchases. Thanks Keetsa!
Neat little mattress in the box,
How you make me dream sweeter.
To all you non-Keetsa mattress owners out there,
I say, neener neener!
You haven't had REM sleep like that of Keetsa,
Or had the amazement of watching a non-air mattress inflate.
How I am so glad I found you, oh Keetsa mattress,
Except when I oversleep and end up at work late.

Keetsa brings an eco-friendly, sustainability orientation to sleep products with amazing new items such as mattresses, pillows, toppers that deliver comfort night after night. Keetsa also brings safer sleep environments by using everyday, natural ingredients that deliver anti-bacterial benefits. These products come together in one of the most efficient business models that produces a much lower carbon foot print than typical mattress stores...and every day cost savings to consumers in the range of 50% to 75%.
I love this store, because they have their entire business model posted on the wall- there's nothing left up to the imagination. keetsa.com

stop #2, heard about it on Yelp! I see they are a sponsor so that makes me a little leery. But we go, and ... they have a great niche at the right time. Green mattresses, recyclable. Wife likes the foam-blend Tea Leaf Classic. We want to buy it. But our bed's an antique full and it won't hold the mattress.
They do offer a spartan metal platform here, but we couldn't decide if that's what we wanted. So keep looking. . . but Andy is great. When we figure out what to do about the bed, we'll be back.
This place is great!!! I bought my bed here 3 months ago and i love it.
They are not pushy salesmen, just down to earth genuine people. The owner is really friendly and his staff is very helpful. The matress and box frame come packaged in small boxes. I fit both in my friends little honda. The show room is small and simple but very welcoming. I recomend this place to anyone and everyone looking for a comfortable matress.
So my boyfriend and I are trying to live a greener life and were in the market for a new mattress. I did some yelping and came across numerous raving reviews about Keetsa. So we cruised into Keetsa and immediately met Chris and Joseph. We told Chris what we were looking for and he directed us to the mattress of our dreams. I almost fell asleep in less that 10 minutes! So comfortable, so different and very low pressure - the mattresses sell themselves. And the bonus is you can feel good about your purchase. I asked Chris a ton of questions and he had all the answers. Great experience - I would recommend Keetsa to everyone!
Andy was great at Keetsa - just enough tagging along to be quick to answer a question, yet never overbearing or in your face. His facts were spot on as well - he definitely knows the details of the product. And more than anything - was completely honest about what he liked, customers liked and why.
After 30 minutes of bouncing from mattress to mattress, I handed him my credit card and chose the Tea Leaf Classic. I also got the neat mattress protector which I believe will be worth it in the long run.
Once home it was a bit of a bear to lift and unpack the bed (even with another strong pair of hands - buyer beware, throw a party and promise beer to get some more hands). The entertainment for the part is the bed swelling up like it was a freeze dried version of something packed for the space shuttle. It was totally worth the effort.
So far, the mattress feels just like the Sealy that got away from me and slid down the stairs to the street. I'm looking forward to the "natural" stuff in it to see how it holds up and lasts (it has the same silver stuff as the Sharper Image yellow containers that make my food last magically long).
I want to sleep now...
We just bought our keetsa mattress last week after hemming and hawing for months. I no longer want to get up in the morning. In fact, I'm writing this in bed.
Product: hubby and I bought the Keetsa tea leaf supreme. It's memory foam but with none of the quicksand feeling. You feel completely cradled and supported by a fresh surface. I'd been concerned about the heat factor but all it takes is adjusting blankets. I don't notice the heat at all, mostly because I'm in a delicious coma all night long. Your spine is aligned so no more cricks and creaks in the morning.
Price: less expensive than any other reputable memory foam mattress and than Macy's on their uber sale days.
Service: simply exceptional. Andy unobtrusively steered us through the mattresses and we made our purchase in half an hour(!) When the box didn't fit in our car, the owner Joe offered to drop it off at our place in the East Bay the following evening. We were having a barbecue with other keetsa converts when Joe came by and he regaled us with tales of surfing in Hawaii. Total 'itsa keetsa' world moment...
Thank you Joe, for my first good night's sleep in a looong time!
I love the mattress in a box! It was amazing that it fit into my tiny car and exciting to watch it expand...
wow!
I haven't ever had a real mattress (I've always been a futon girl) and I finally found one that I feel good about. The Keetsa Pillow Soft.
It's comfy and I like the green trim and the green design and I didn't have to drive on the freeway with some monstrosity tied to my roof.
Ahhhhhhhh!
My wife and I love our new bed! Joe at Keetsa was the best. He just showed us what we asked for and answered our questions.
The bed really sold us! Great price compared to Tempur Pedic and we're sleeping better than ever.
Thank you Keetsa!

I've been out of town all weekend, and almost forgot I bought a brand new memory foam bed at Keetsa last week. The couple nights I spent on it felt like a dream, literally.
If you've never slept on a new bed, I suggest you do it immediately.
I feel great.
Maybe even more important than the comfort of the bed, was the ease with which we put the thing together.
The sales process wasn't pushy at all, which is usually a sign of someone with faith in their product. So far so good.

Easy. Green. Value. Comfort!
In 30 min, Andy answered our questions, left us alone to try out the different styles, set us up with our new Tea Leaf Supreme, mattress covers, pillows, and we were on our way with the bed in a box in the front seat of the car. Really easy and low key transaction.
Two in the family have asthma so we are very careful about fumes, off gassing, etc and wanted to avoid the chemicals in traditional mattresses. We also try to buy green products whenever possible. Yelp helped us find Keetsa and we love the new mattress! Thanks!!

I've been looking to buy a new mattress for a while, and after a couple months of research and going around town testing different types of mattresses, I decided to get the Keetsa Tea Leaf Supreme memory foam mattress.
I first heard about Keetsa at the Green Festival, and then ran into Joe (who works for the company) at another expo here in SF, and after speaking with him about the benefits of the Keetsa mattresses (from eco-friendly materials to affordable rates), I went by their store this weekend, picked up the mattress in a box, brought it home and had one of the best night's sleeps in a long time.
In my opinion, of all the mattress brands and types out there, the memory foam mattresses are the best, and if you don't want to spend over $3k on the Tempur-Pedic brand, the Keetsa Tea Leaf Supreme is a really good choice. I really liked the fact that I could take it home in a box.
If you're looking for a new mattress, I highly recommend you check out the Keetsa store, and check out the Tea Leaf Supreme memory foam mattress, its a great deal and you'll feel good about sleeping on an eco-friendly mattress.

I recently parted with my TempurPedic bed due to a 3,200 mile move cross-country. After some casual searching I found Keetsa here on Yelp and went to check them out yesterday.
As soon as I walked in, I was casually greeted by Andy (the infamously awesome Andy of Keetsa). He really *is* as awesome as everyone says. Andy was never pushy and more than happy to entertain my 100 questions with knowledgeable answers.
The mattress features/differences and pricing are both clearly listed throughout the store which made it really easy to make decisions. There are also signs indicating how much of the mattress was recycled and can be recycled. The bed frame I bought was made of all recycled steel.
After I picked out a queens-sized bed and frame, I was ready to roll (really, the box has wheels) everything out of the store back to my apartment about six blocks away (no car). Andy offered to grab a pair of dollies and help me get everything back to my apartment. It was great. Andy and one of his coworkers actually walked six blocks through SoMa, to my building, to my floor and into my apartment with my new bed!
I slept on the mattress for the first time last night and *loved* it. A Keetsa mattress is definitely worth it if you've ever enjoyed a TempurPedic (and for a lot less).
If you're in the market for a new, environmentally-friendly, space-age, kick-ass mattress then go see Andy at Keetsa!

I loved the idea, i loved the cost, I love the planet, but i do not like this foam bed. It is too hard for my taste.
At first I hated it but didn't have the guts to tell my sweet husband who was so excited about it. Finally, I told him "i know you spent some bucks on this thing but i can't sleep". He checked under the bed and we found out our bed was slanted! Ha, i don't hate it anymore, but i do think it is a bit hard for my taste. i like pillow top mushy cloud like beds.
The sales guys are VERY persistent in trying to make their customers happy. That is unusual, cool and disturbing all at the same time.

Another positive review of Keetsa...no cramped showroom, high pressure or squirrelly pricing. Our salesman Andy was very helpful and friendly and, most significantly, the mattresses are extremely comfortable and affordable. We didn't expect to buy a mattress that day but we did. The memory foam is great (takes a few days to get accustomed to it) and I appreciate the reduced amount of packaging it requires.
The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is that there were some crazy mix-ups with the shipping (order accidentally cancelled, then reinstated and shipped to wrong address, then finally to us after an afternoon's wait). It may be that these guys just need a little more logistics experience, or it could be attributable to the commonplace SF ignorance of any place north of the Golden Gate. All's well that ends well, though. They were very conscientious about getting it to us and it all worked out fine. I promised to yelp about it and here I am -- buy Keetsa. You and your back will be pleased.
First heard of Keetsa during the DWR design convention summer 07'. Tried out a few of their mattresses, but was unimpressed. When a new king size bed frame was ordered last fall, we were again in the market for a new mattress since our queen size mattress was soon to become obsolete. We wanted a latex mattress because of the associated health and environmental benefits, but could find none locally (SF) that we could both try out and get for under $3k. So, after a few exhaustive months of research, I came across Keetsa again via google, and decided to check them out more closely. I went to their website - which was the best of any mattress site I was on, and found almost what we were looking for. Unfortunately, no Keetsa mattress was composed mainly of latex, so we settled on 2 options and headed down to the Keetsa store. We were greeted by a very friendly and knowledgeable staff. I asked a LOT of questions I already had answers to from the Keetsa website, and got an answer for each one. Our sales rep. helped us load our mattress into the back of the wagon, drove it home and wheeled it into the loft, unwrapped the plastic and haven't slept this good in years! We'll NEVER go back to a spring mattress again. THANKS Keetsa!
Great prices and great eco-friendly and green mattresses.
You just gotta go try one of these mattresses at their store before going to IKEA or any other mattress store. I was surprised to find myself with a $500 memory foam AND spring mattress that felt good from the get-go.

OK, I've bought a couple of mattresses in my time and generally the experience is god awful. It's akin to going to a used car lot and haggling with some horribly tacky sales person and never, ever feeling that you got the best deal or even a reliable car....it's that lingering uncertain feeling that you probably got ripped off in a big way. Reading about the mattress industry online makes you feel even worse and more certain that the outcome won't be good.
Well, I stumbled across these folks on Yelp and had seen them at the dwell conference on sustainable design. The showroom was clean, the sales guy - low key, and the quality of the product seems great. It was a no-fuss, no muss deal. Researched them online, saw the price was under 500 for the mattress I wanted, and boom - bought it and took it home in our trunk in 10 minutes. beautiful, simple, clean, quality transaction. just the way I like it.
mark my words - these folks will be transforming the shoddy mattress industry. not to mention that the product is actually environmentally sensitive, which is a nice bonus.
highly recommended.

I always said that my first Yelp review would be for something that I am passionate about, and not surprisingly, that turned out to be sleep!
Background: we were in desperate need of a new mattress- every movement from my partner resulted in me waking up with a start, sure it was the Big One. I was also having major allergy issues, and my Allergist informed me of the horrifying existence of dust mites, which live in your mattress and linens. We had researched the ridiculously expensive Tempurpedics, but I was not entirely convinced that memory foam was my thing. But, as chance would have it, we drove by Keetsa, and after checking out their website, and reading the reviews on Yelp, we decided to give it a try.
The store was very clean, with a calming atmosphere, and Joe, our salesperson, was great. He was extremely knowledgeable, and was able to answer all of our questions. He was not pushy or annoying at all, which we very much appreciated. We tested out the Tea Leaf Supreme for about 10 minutes, and decided to go for it. We also got the anti-allergen mattress cover, bed frame, and two pillows. A big selling feature for us was the 30-night money back guarantee if we did not like the mattress, as well as a 20-year warranty against manufacturer defects. The price cannot be beat either- MUCH cheaper (less than half the price) of a Tempurpedic. Of course, living in SF, I must also comment on the "eco-friendliness" and "sustainability" of Keetsa.
As all the other reviews state, getting the mattress home was super easy. The box and all the fixin's fit perfectly into the back of my GTI. We opened the box when we got home, unrolled, and were done! The Tea Leaf odor was not too bad (I was a bit worried after reading some of the other reviews). The mattress did take the full 36 hours to completely "inflate," but even that first night was stellar.
We have now had the mattress for about one month, and could not be happier. Not only do we toss and turn much less, but when one of us does, the other doesn't even feel it! Also, I definitely feel like my allergies have gotten better. I am not sure if that is due to just having a new, dust mite-free mattress, the allergen cover, the green tea compound, or a mixture of all. All I know is that I don't get instantly congested and sneezy the second my head hits the pillow! I do smell the green tea odor from time to time, and although I don't find it to be necessarily pleasant, it's not so bad either. The bed-frame is metal and kind of ghetto, but the nice thing is that since it is only a mattress, with no box-spring, there is a ton more room for us to stash our crap under the bed! All we need is a bedskirt to hide the frame. I would highly recommend giving this place a try if you are in the market for a new bed!

We had a fantastic experience shopping here and we love our mattress. We came in on a Saturday morning with our 12 month old son which wasn't on the top of his list of fun things to do. No one cared that he was crawling all around the store while Andy gave us the low down in a very relaxed and no pressure manner. We ended up with the tea leaf supreme and love it. It is easy to get in and out of these small SF spaces and is super comfy. Keetsa is a fantastic alternative for those who can't afford 100% organic but still want to buy an earth friendly mattress. We also love the pillows. My husband has been having neck issues with our conventional pillows, but the keetsa pillows have sloved it.
Good product, fantastic friendly and personal service, low pressure, earth friendly and baby friendly too!!

The salesperson, Andy, was super low-key, helpful and friendly.

I actually found this store on Yelp so I figure I ought to write a review in return since I love my mattress. I paid more than I really wanted to, but I got the super nice one with plushy memory foam. Low pressure sales. It was awesome that it came in a little box that fit in my car! And it is so much more comfortable than my previous mattresses (Sleep Number - don't waste your money, and pillow-top Sealy). Plus it's made using green processes and smells like green tea!
With all due respect to the skeptical guy below, this is an honest review - I wouldn't have found my yummy plushy mattress without Yelp and I'm really happy with it so I'm giving back by reviewing!
simple store layout & price-schedule. chill vibe. super-helpful & friendly staff. free green tea.
mattresses that feel as good as the s-brands, but cost the same or less, & are made w/ healthy-enviro-recycled materials (eg naturally anti-bacterial by green tea & silver threading, rather than petro-based pesticides).
plus easy take-home or delivery; keetsa products come vacuum-compressed. very futuristic.
compare that w/ the strange dealings elsewhere on 9th street. treat yourself - it's your bed we're talking here!

Keetsa rocks! Our sales person, Andy, was very helpful and knowledgable. Parking was super easy since it was a saturday afternoon. i bought a queen size of the cloud mattress and it is awesome! I haven't slept so well in a very very long time.
The bed itself came in a small box that weighed about 90 lbs. it fit very nicely in the trunk of my Yaris. It was a little challenging for me to get it up some stairs, but I had some help. The bed was super easy to set up. It's like one of the space bags commercials, just cut the bag and poof, the bed rises. The first couple of nights, the bed did emit a strange odor, but it went away and the bed is now odorless.
Overall, an excellent product and great service! Andy you rock!

I saw these at the Dwell On Design Show back in '07. I was impressed by the decent prices and the product's eco-friendly manufacturing processes. I was able to get the metal fold-up frame AND a Queen Mattress in my little VW GOLF. I got the lowest price model. (which has springs and memory foam combo) I thought the memory-foam only mattresses were HARD! There is none of that annoying "bounce" that most spring mattresses can have. A buddy complains how crappy his mattress is. I have told him to get a KEETSA! I laugh about his Macy's mattress. He's bouncing all over the place. While I am in a state of soft, cozy-yummy-slumber-luxury! Occasionally, I hear/feel the springs move around in the mattress. But, KEETSA has a 20-year warranty on the thing, so I am not too worried about it going south any time too soon. My transaction with the Staff was quick and friendly. They helped me get the products in my car. That was all that I required, because I knew what I wanted after looking around for quite a while first. Highly recommended.
Best service, best mattresses. Maybe not the "best" prices...but worth the price, believe me.
I went to Keetsa specifically because I *hate* buying a mattress. The reviews on Yelp were right - no pressure, great service, relaxed atmosphere, no haggling!
My salesperson, Andy, was helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. "DJoe" kept the atmosphere light with some laid back tunes while I shopped. I even drank some of their green tea while I shopped. ah, relaxing. Oh, and I just happened to get a dead battery while I was shopping, and after loading up my mattress, Joe actually pulled his car around and jumped my car for me!!
But it's not all about the experience...there's the quality of the mattress to consider. And it's heavenly. I got a memory foam and I have loved it from the minute I first laid on it. In fact, my boyfriend is jealous of my mattress, as I no longer spend the night at his house. I make him come to mine. : )
You may pay a little more for these mattresses - but check out the website - the quality is amazing.
The comfort is amazing.
The service is amazing.
Thanks, Keetsa!

Wow, check out these guys, they have the cheapest mattresses in town. They got their own brand and everything. Between Folsom and Howard.
I bought this mattress back in September, amazed at the price, comfort, and ease with which I could cart it home. I was told by the salesman that there was a green tea smell to the matress but to me, the mattress had an overpowering chemical smell. I was asked to just put my nose to the mattress to smell the green tea, and I must say, I smelled the same chemical smell. The salesman proceeded to explain that the new carpet was what smelled.
Update: The smell has gone away. It took a few months, but it's gone. It is not organic, but I cannot afford an organic mattress, so we are keeping it, in spite of a very generous offer from a salesperson at their store. I am impressed with an email I received from a salesperson who offered to take the mattress back - months after we bought it - if we didn't like it. This was a grand gesture since normally a mattress store would not take a mattress back that had been bought months ago. I felt like I could finally make an honest decision about keeping the mattress or getting something organic.
We decided to keep the mattress for us, but to buy an organic mattress for our baby that is made from rubber. It's a great mattress and just be sure to educate yourself about foam ahead of time to make sure you're not scared of polyurethane. They apparently have less than other manufacturers.
Hats off to them for reaching out way past when you'd think a business would ever take back a mattress. Pretty nice.

(normally I hate long reviews, but since I spent, and you probably will spend, a lot of time researching and shopping for a mattress, I will make an exception here.)
I started shopping for a new bed about a year ago, and stopped shortly thereafter due to the yucky feeling I kept getting from the shopping experience. The more research I did online, the more I found out about all the mattress industry's sleazy practices (eg, creating custom mattresses for each vendor to prevent price matching. also, have you ever noticed how the cheapest mattress always gets put on some flimsy foundation?). Eventually I just gave up and put up with my old mattress for another year.
Last fall, I started hearing about Keetsa. The greenness seemed nice, thought it wasn't necessarily enough to convince me to trust a 4 month old company. The fact that they had a simple product line was much more appealing (no more games with price matching...not that its an issue if you only sell directly ;-).
Anyway, I finally went into the store one weekend. The salesperson, a young Asian woman named Dani (?), presented all the information that I wanted in a straightforward and not-sleazy manner. What really sold me was when I started trying out the more expensive mattresses, instead of trying to sell me up each step of the price ladder, she knew when to stop, letting me know what features were just a nice luxury and which ones would be things I actually needed. She even did such non-mattress-salesperson-like things as tell me that traditional box springs were useless, and that if I wasn't tossing and turning in my sleep then I probably didn't need any fancy features on my mattress. If I hadn't already spent a year avoiding an impulse mattress buy, I might have taken one home that day.
Instead, I ended up coming back a couple weeks later to do some last minute re-evaluations and take home a mattress. This time, a guy named Joe helped me out. It's a good thing Dani's salesmanship had already convinced me I wanted to buy from Keetsa, because Joe wasn't too far off from the typical mattress salesmen I'd encountered before--even down to the cheesy suit and slicked back hair (really, dude? i mean...really?). Anyway, he wasn't outright pushy, but he was steering other people away from their base model spring mattresses and toward memory foam mattresses while I was there ("I don't sleep on anything else!"). His answers were overly polished and had an air of BS about them ("Think about what a spring does. It pushes back against you. Now how are you supposed to sleep on that?" I don't know, but I'm pretty sure foam pushes back, too.), and I even heard him use a "it's your health" line (look up "webmd mattresses" on Google...it's NOT your health) on some other customers. To his credit, he was reviewing resumes while I was there he seemed to genuinely believe in low pressure sales. Maybe he just learned too many bad habits from selling mattresses for the last 20 years.
In the end, Joe's sales tactics worked because I ended up getting a Keetsa Cloud memory foam mattress instead of the Keetsa Plus (basic spring mattress) i had intended to buy. With all that upselling I kept overhearing, I got this idea stuck in the back of my head that I'd always wonder what the memory foam mattress would be like, and then I decided it would be better to just buy it now rather than spend the next 5-10 years looking for an excuse to dump my spring mattress.
I've been sleeping on a Keetsa Cloud for a few weeks now. I've never had a memory foam mattress before, so I can only compare it to traditional spring mattresses. I've been sleeping well and the mattress is really firm and stable. But to be honest, I probably would have been just as happy with the Keetsa Plus, for about $400 less. At least now I can quit worrying about mattresses. (OK, actually now I want to check out the $500 Ikea memory foam mattress...)
I also bought their steel bedframe, which is awesome because it lifts the mattress 14" above the ground--same height as with a box spring on a normal bedframe--so I can stuff a bunch of crap underneath the bed. The bed-in-a-box thing is nice, too, but I probably wouldn't have minded taking ONE day off to receive delivery on a mattress. The eco-friendly-ness is great, but some of us don't really care THAT much (I wouldn't have cared at all if the mattresses weren't price competitive) and none of it matters anyway if you don't properly dispose of your mattress (the old one OR the Keetsa--btw, my old one is currently being re-used...I never even called Sunset Scavenger).

Good experience here! Low pressure, seemingly good quality products that are affordable, helpful staff, and nice to feel that one's contributing to a smaller SF company that has positive environmental conservation efforts. Recommended!

I have a two-year-old. Said two-year-old has decided that it is time for him to move out of his toddler bed and into a big boy bed. I couldn't be happier about that! So I check in on freecycle, hoping to find a livable mattress for him that hasn't been used for too long. After all, he's a kid, he's not too picky about the surface on which he sleeps. I find a nice lady on freecycle who gives me her mattress that she's had for 2 months. Get the mattress home, and find out rather quickly that it really doesn't smell so nice. A definite funk. I spray it with some Febreze, but after one night, I have determined that it is not acceptable for my boy to have to sleep in that kind of miasma.
Now, I'm thinking that I will have to run over to on of the mattress chains and get raked over the coals by some used-car salesman mattress guy who doesn't know foam from coils, just to buy something, anything, that can get delivered today and save my child from the funk. Looks like the minimum I'm going to be spending is $500. For a twin sized mattress?? Huh? I do some more research online, and come across Bedzine. The
