7 reviews for Kealey Kris MD
As a new patient to Dr. Kris Kealey I was impressed from the get-go. The receptionist Theresa was "on the ball" as well as friendly as hell!
The assistant Jeannie was sweet and easygoing.
Her office seemed busy for a 1 physician practice. I waited about 45 minutes for my appointment as I realized she was taking her time for a patient that needed extra testing & attention. (I was a little skeptical when the young woman next to me - informed me that she waited 5 hours in the waiting room for her 1st appointment)
Plenty of magazines in the waiting room, however a kids movie was on the TV (Its an adult practice and there were no children in the waiting room - I would have been more apt to watch the news)
The decor was outdated, however clean. No modern up to the minute decorating here. But then you realize that this practice isnt about the money spent to impress but the friendly, educated & service provided by Dr. Kealey & staff.
I was thoroughly impressed with her attitude, listening skills, and bedside manner. She was thorough, attentive and I excited to find a doctor/practice that I can see myself going long term with.
Per below reviews they say the office staff is nasty. I guess I am one of the lucky ones. Both the receptionist and assitant are very responsive and caring. Jeanie the assistant called me back several times in one day just to keep me informed on insurance matters. Whenever I call they drop everything and listen patiently and give their thoughtful and honest answers. As far as Dr. Kealy goes, I've only seen her once and she came off a bit cold, but overall seemed very professional and knowledgeable. I did not have to wait for my appointment, I couldn't even finish the article I was reading or watch some telly.:( I will keep this review updated as my care goes on.
She's a great doctor. My mom recommended me to her. Been with her for a couple of years.
I'm amazed at the 5 star reviews Dr. Kealey has received and agree 100% with Cal Z. Don't EVER go see Dr. Kealey if you value your time and care about how others treat you. Dr. Kealey has been my PCP for a number of years, and it's only through sheer laziness and my infrequent doctor visits that I haven't got around to finding a new doctor yet. At this point though, I've gotten fed up enough and will not be going back to see her ever.
The key word to keep in mind when dealing with Dr. Kealey is "waiting." You'll wait 15 minutes on hold when you first call the office, a week or more before they call you back, another month before she'll actually have time in her schedule to see you, and a good hour after your appointment was supposed to start before she treats you.
Dr. Kealey and her staff have absolutely no respect or value for other people's time. If you actually have the patience to wait through all that, and you make it into one of her treatment rooms, you'll find that she's competent, but brusque. Not amazing, and definitely not worth the crap treatment you get from her and her staff.
The high reviews she's received so far seem to be from new patients who think that the waiting they experienced was a one time thing. It's not. I haven't been to Dr. Kealey's once where she was prompt and courteous or where the staff was helpful and attentive.
Wow, there have been three excellent reviews posted on Dec. 17th & 18th. Isn't that interesting?
June 2008: I have zapped Dr. Kealey and have signed up with a different PCP who is the complete opposite to Dr. Kealey. My new PCP's staff is also 100%-no make that 200%-better than Dr. Kealey's incompetent staff.
My new doctor is a gem, totally respectful and thoroughly professional. She mailed me my lab results! No playing around and holding my results as collateral as Dr. Kealey and staff did to me.
Thank God the insurance plan allows one to change doctors!
Good luck to Dr. Kealey's current patients. I really do feel you can do better.
I can't believe that this is the same doctor mentioned above in the other review. Personally this is the worst doctor and staff I've signed up with yet. If there were a zero star rating it would be appropriate.
I don't get what is the fascination with the flat screen TV and DVD's. They do not make a doctor and staff excellent. In fact, the DVD they were playing last visit I had was Frosty the Snowman. Granted it was Christmas Eve but that seems more appropriate for a pediatric office.
If you want rude, sarcastic talk, unprofessionalism (Theresa mentioned above is never kind to me;she even said she would hang up the phone on me since I was upset and tried to explain that no one called me back as I was promised-more than twice this has occurred), ignored pleas for call backs, and uncaring attitude then sign on-at your own risk.
I called at random times asking for information/referrals and only once at my insistence did I ever get a callback. Otherwise, no one ever calls me back although they will take down my name and number promising that, yes, someone will call me back.
Bottom line they seem to pick and choose which patients to assist so don't be shocked to hear 'Your request is not a priority!'.
And 9.99/10 the minute your call is answered it's met with 'Please hold.'
I've been in their waiting room where all conversations are public and I can say for sure they are not always on the phone to constantly put people on hold for almost every call they receive!
I AM HAPPY TO FIND A DIFFERENT PCP FOR 2008 than to continue employing services for a boob of a doctor and her nasty staff!
Below is an account of a recent office visit (12/24/07):
Doctor was half an hour late for my appointment although I was the first appointment of the day. She called the staff citing she had an 'emergency'. I am doubtful that she was in surgery prior to 9 a.m. (my appointment) that necessitated this so-called emergency. I feel that it's inconsiderate to expect one's patients to be on time and even to go so far as to charge a cancellation fee like she does yet it's okay for the doctor to be late and just cite that there was an 'emergency' keeping the patient waiting indefinitely in the office OR like what I overheard Theresa calling a patient with a later appointment that the doctor had an 'emergency' and would be running late that day to not come in at the scheduled time.
As I staed above 9/10 of the time when I call the office I am put on hold for minutes on end (20 minutes to half an hour). Requests for my calls to be returned go unfulfilled.
My lab test results were held something like collateral until I came in for and paid an office visit. In other words, I was not able to get my results over the phone which every other doctor prior have happily given me via phone call. I had to pay to hear the results read back to me in person during an office visit!
Kealey doesn't perform Pap smears which is totally weird for a female physician to refuse to do. I can accept that and speculate as to why she refuses to not perform Pap smears, but the recptionist (not Theresa this time) failed to inform me of this fact when I made an appointment--for a Pap smear. Therefore, I showed up at the appointed time for nothing wasting my medical leave hours.
Did I get an apology from Theresa the gatekeeper? No! The icing on the cake was that Kealey was standing at the desk and overheard me but pretended not to see me nor hear my conversation. If this doctor truly cared about her patients she would have apologized and explained that she does not do Pap smears and apologize somewhat at least for making me come in for nothing.
Reading the comment above about the patient who actually waited 5 hours for her appointment is really shocking. That is ridiculous to be kept waiting for 5 hours!
Recently I requested a different specialist from what I was given and was told that my request to get a secondary referral was 'not a priority'.
What I feel is that as a patient I am not a priority!
I'll make it short.
I only tried to see her once in the 5 months that she was my PCP. She essentially refused to see me and passed me along the ER. Even though I tried to explain that I was actually feeling much, much (about 5 times) better, and pointed out that an office visit would be 10 bucks for me versus 100. I overheard her speaking to her nurse over the phone, and she sounded completely peeved and annoyed. This office didn't have the patience for any friendly business.
Needless to say I found myself a new PCP. Romana Usman is her name, she's absolutely fabulous.
I went to see Dr. Kealey as a new patient after relocating from Santa Barbara in '06. Unsure of what to expect, I was pleasantly surprised when I met her. First of all, I like that she is a surfer which makes her mellow. In the waiting area, the staff plays movies on the flat screen which is a nice change from the usual waiting rooms. Dr. Kealey was patient and thorough in taking down my medical history and listened to all my concerns. She was never in a rush despite running behind schedule. Since I've moved into the city, I've had to switched doctors, but I recommend her to anyone who is looking for a caring and attentive doctor.
