I have been here twice for my buddy Blake B.'s book releases and it is a pretty cool place.  They have food, beer and wine, and coffee of all sorts.  Don't drink that coffee stuff but people here seem to like it.
Last time I went I was surprised to see the paintings my friend Jeffrey does (usually sells them on the street in L5P) prominently displayed on their walls.  Wonderful!   At the last event my sister and her man ordered food and had glowing reviews- one meal was a BLT on a bagel, the other was some sort of hummus wrap with all sorts of yum in it.

They seem to be keen on book releases so if you have any friends needing a space to do such a thing check it out.  They closed at 11 p.m., but stayed open for us long past twelve.  And didn't frown at us, from what I could tell!  Overall a major thumbs up for cozy atmosphere, decent location, tasty food, reasonable drink prices, and wonderful staff.

My friend told me about Kavarna one night when we were looking for a place to meet up.  We went there to watch a singer named Emily Kate Boyd.  Props to Kavarna for supporting local and independent acts.

All I sampled at Kavarna was a couple of glasses of wine and some hummus that another person at my table ordered.  Both were good.  The service was fast and friendly, though it may have been helpful that everyone at my table except for me personally knew that night's performer.

I would definitely go back to Kavarna.  It had a nice, artsy vibe and what food I had was REALLY tasty (and I promise you that I am picky about hummus).  One cautionary note: if the place is full, I am guessing it's hard to find parking.

I gave 2 stars only because the shop is cute and I love the local (and AFFORDABLE) art for sale, but the coffee is weak at best.  My iced coffee seriously tasted like coffee-flavored water.  Yuck!

I stepped into Kavarna late last night to support a new local band. I immediately loved this Oakhurst space, as modern, sometimes grotesque artwork covers the exposed brick walls.

The house coffee blend was super-tasty, enabling me to stay awake during the show, which occurred way past my bedtime. I also found the extensive wine selection and top-notch beer choices (Chimay, for example) impressive.

I'd love to return to Kavarna when the rock music isn't blaring, so I can sip a hot bev and engage in conversation.

1 star for the food -- it was not good but I've had worse. I'm not sure why there are so many positive reviews involving the food...maybe it was an "off night"?

4 stars for the service -- friendly and helpful!

2 star average since the food was that bad.

However, 5 stars to HOPE for AGOLDEN SUMMER -- absolutely beautiful music and the only reason I was at Kavarna in the first place.  Unfortunately they have nothing to do with the actual business.

I ordered the Aegean wrap and it was not good. It certainly was not as amazing as other reviewers made the food seem. Something tasted "musty" and the fillings were sparse (there was way more lavash and lettuce than hummus, tapendade and chicken which sucks). My friend ordered the ham and cheese wrap and a soup of the day and both pretty much sucked. There was one piece of ham and one piece of cheese on a large piece of lavash with a butt-load of lettuce in the middle. The soup tasted like it was from a frozen mix and the potatoes and carrots were not properly defrosted.

The coffee was good but it's Dancing Goats so it's probably hard to mess up. I noticed a white board on one of coolers that said something to the effect of "if it fell on the floor, pick it up and wipe it off".  I know it was a complete joke, but some other customers probably will not recognize the sarcasm (please be a joke) and might find it gross (the health department is probably one of those patrons).  I do have to say that service was really good and friendly so that alone is a reason to visit if you're in the neighborhood.

Great place to grab a drink and listen to some live local music.  The space is great - good sized, good seating, and even an actual bar.

Service laid back but friendly.  Great place to hang out and plan to camp out with my laptop soon.

So after wandering into Oakhurst accidentally many times, I actually set out to find it today. I got lost and ended up, as usual, in Oakhurst! This place is pretty great as far as I can tell. The smiths, a couch, good lighting, delicious hot chocolate and food on the menu all the while being walking distance from pizza. And I saw someone mildly attractive walking down the streets of this small village, so she had a neck tattoo. Whatever. I used to put fake neck tattoos on all the time. Oh no....someone is coming in with an amp....I will let you know how that goes, but if this turns into a hoedown I have to leave.

~Spoken with ambient music in the background~

I love Kavarna on Friday nights when my friends Strezo are playing.
I love Kavarna when it's raining and I have a hot cup of coffee in my hands to keep me warm and toasty.
I love Kavarna for it's location in the Oakhurst zocalo ( city center).
I love Kavarna for the beer and wine they serve me when coffee just won't do the trick.  (Which isn't very often.)
I love Kavarna with the capital K that is it's logo.

I will love Kavarna for the food (when I try it!)

I will love Kavarna for the rest of my life.

Oh, Kavarna, how close you are to being perfect!!!

You took a while to open, and as you morphed from a video rental place and coffee shop/web consulting storefront into coffee house/music venue/wine bar, you teased Oakhurstians with promises of wines by the glass and bottle, coffee drinks, teas, and light food.

Now you've opened, and you are just what you promised. You have a very mellow, inviting feel. You tempt us with several seating options, running the gamut from tiny tables big enough for four coffee cups or one laptop, to the "couchy corner" where we can sink our cabooses while we while away the hours.

Clearly your owner has put some thought into the menu, offering Medterranean fare that can (or even will benefit from a) sit in the fridge. Focaccias and the soup of the day are easy to heat up without the benefit of an actual kitchen.

A serious wine list, and a short but wide ranging beer list (Krusovice Dark to Schlitz tall boys) is, of course, a welcome addition.

What would make you perfect, you ask? Well, though you open and serve coffee and pastries early enough to get the eager beavers on their way to work, you're clearly going for the night-owl vibe. Hosting the Decatur Sunday Night Jam sees so perfect as to feel like it's been going on for years.

But is it true that you don't serve off the menu until 2 in the afternoon? I guess no greek salad for lunch for me.

Also, since the breakfast options in Oakhurst Square amount to zilch, if you could figure out a way to serve some brown-sugar laced oatmeal or scrambled eggs, bacon and toast, I might not ever be able to leave. One can only hope.

My Aegean sandwich was excellent.  Very tasty and fresh tasting.   The Gazpacho soup had to much vinegar in it and was missing something in it's overall taste.   Plus, the soup came in a normal sized coffee cup for $2.50 which was a bit overpriced.   The help behind the counter were very friendly and quick service.

The thing that got me was the God awful music they were playing at lunch.  It was really bad electric techno club house music and it was being play quite loudly.

We are those girls who would like to order hummus by the pound and cheese plates hand over fist whilst drinking a case of red wine together.

Well, Kavarna is the place for us.  They have TWO kinds of hummus and some very delicious herbed goat cheeses.  We ordered these as well as chicken paprika (not totally my fav but still pretty good) and a delicious grilled chicken salad with a variety of homemade dressings to choose from.

We will be returning to Karvana to lounge on the patio again.

Laid-back coffee-lounge atmosphere with surprisingly good food! the tuna salad was awesome as well as the three goat cheeses.

Service was a touch slow but not horrible.

There's a little stage there too, and there was actually some decent local performances there. All-around great place... perfect for the Oakhurst vibe!

I love this place, I wish it was in Midtown. The space is large and apparently they have live music on occasion. More importantly, their coffee is great. They have a patio out in front. The only downside was parking was a little tricky the last time I headed out there. I look forward to trying their food the next time.
