    Fun little pizza joint.

My friend and I had eaten pizza not too long ago, so we were thinking of going somewhere for salads, when she suggested Kavanagh's.

To start, I ordered the tomato bruschetta and for dinner I ordered the Salmon Caesar salad and she had the grilled chicken salad.  The tomato bruschetta was okay.  The tomato was fresh and yummy, and the bread was toasty and grilled, but when put together, the bread became soggy and difficult to eat.  It was a good idea, but definitely a miss, in my opinion, as an appetizer.

However, I gave this place four stars because of my salmon Caesar salad.  The salmon was perfectly cooked and had a great crust on the outside, while maintaining its tenderness on the inside - well-seasoned and probably one of the best salmon caesars I've had to date.

The service was fine and the establishment seemed fun.  I also saw that they had some great HH offers, so it's too bad that I didn't get to enjoy any of those but if I'm ever back in the Georgetown area, I'll have to come back!

I felt that Kavanagh's is a real neighborhood pub. I saw more people hanging out at a bar than table. Most of them were alone but didn't seem lonely. They were either talking to a bartender or other customer sitting next to them. I found that a lottery machine at the bar was amusing.

Pizza was made in wood-fired brick oven. Not the best wood-fired pizza but it was good. Plenty of cheese was on the pizza and the crust was chewy and crisp at the same time.

If you get bored at home and want to have a glass of beer and slice of pizza with random people who you can chat with, stop by Kavanagh's pizza pub. And buy a lottery ticket. You never know ...

Good, hot pizza with chewy crust, tons of cheese, and a massive variety of toppings?  Check.

    On the cheap side? Check.

Gooey mozzarella sticks fresh outta the fryer with a happy little side of sauce? Check. (Order extra sauce.)

Half-price draft beers ALL NIGHT ON THURSDAYS?  Check!  (I work late, so I always miss happy hours elsewhere).  A pint of Troegs for $2.50??? Yes, please!

A very non-pretentious, atypical DC crowd?  Lots of old men?  Even though it's on the edge of Georgetown? Check.

What can I say...I'm in love.  The service isn't great, but I love their food, beer and the atmosphere too much to care.  My friends and I are regulars, and they'll easily sit 8-10 people with little fuss or complaint.  It's the sort of place where you're supposed to be a little raucous, and where no one cares how you're dressed.

I really, really need to stop reviewing pizza places when I'm hungry...

Definitely a cool place to grab a pizza. Not terribly crowded (on this particular Friday night). Staff was very friendly and accommodating.

The mozzarella sticks were pretty bad. Way too greasy. On the other hand, the pizza was really good! Sausage, peppers and onions. Great thick crust, overall cooked to perfection.

A parting caveat..this is NOT a sports bar. There are about five TVs, only two of them over 15'...and they're all near the bar. Was a bit disappointing that we couldn't enjoy the game from a table.

Kavanagh's is one of my favorite spots in DC. It is a casual restaurant in Glover Park that has consistently good food and service. Whether you are going for a quick bite to eat or out to dinner with 15 people, they can take care of you.

They have good deals on week nights (I am a huge fan of 2-for-Tuesday). Prices in general are extremely reasonable and the pizza is delicious - some of the best I've had in DC! The outdoor patio is great during the warmer months as well.

All in all, I have nothing but good things to say about Kavanagh's!

The pizza was very tasty here.  The sauce was delicious and the crust was perfectly done.

The wait staff earned every penny of their tip and the prices were very reasonable.

My only complaint was that my soda was a little flat.

Although I go to Kavanaghs quite frequently (more often than I'd like to share), my most recent visit was last night.  I always love this casual, neighborhood pizza place.

Mondays are the best here - 2 (large) slices of pizza + a pint of beer for ~$5.  Can't beat that!  Also, their lasagna is to diiiiieeeee for.

As of now, this is my favorite pizza place in DC.

Crisp thin brick oven style is served here and it's done right. They're sandwiches are not bad either. Sadly, we had an awful waitress who seemed disinterested but I won't let it affect the grade.

Good thin crust pizza and okay service. Not a while lot of variety but decent. They're in the basement on top of an Indian restaurant. Parking can be extremely difficult so you might have to walk. Don't get the caesar salad it's a little too dry. If your looking for a real pizza experience go to 2 Amy's in Dupont Circle or in Friendship Heights.

The bar where old drunks come to die as so eloquently put by my significant other. It's also the place where the pizza looks up, in admiration, to frozen pizza.

I feel bad leaving such a bad review, but the experience was pretty awful. I rarely give 1 star ratings, and the food alone deserved a two, the service pushed it down to one.

There was an odd flavor to the pizza, I couldn't put my finger on it at the time, until I had the leftovers the next day: It tasted like chili. As in Texas Chili. Not like it was spicy, but it tasted like chili, WTF.

I can't tell you if it is the sauce, which at first tasted like pasta sauce, or the cheese, or if it was their "homemade meatballs." Now, maybe I'm crazy but meatballs on a pizza normally look...I dunno, like someone took a BALL and then sliced it. That is not what came out. Instead we got hamburger meat on the pizza. Fowl tasting hamburger meat. How does hamburger meat taste like a bird...I dunno...it was just that bad!

Now, my GF got a sammich, and she liked her sammich...a lot. So maybe they've got something there. And the fries were pretty tasty...But I didn't eat those things...I ate this pizza that made me wish I was eating at Sbarro's, or Red Barron, or hell...I woulda gone for Pizza Hut over this pizza. YICK!

Now, why the one star rating and not two? Because of the service. While the wait staff was kind, they were slower than a tortoise carrying an alligator. The food came out rather quickly, frankly, though they didn't refill my water, which had been empty for about 8 minutes, but it was mostly an issue with the check we had. Here we are, done with our food, we ask for the check and a box...out comes the box (which was inside out for some odd reason) and the waiter walks off, we put our credit card in immediately. 10 minutes later he comes back, picks up the credit card. A song, that I can't stand comes on, and I think "thank god, we are going to leave any second now and I can end this torturous melody." To my deepest chagrin no check came...and it didn't come...and the song ended...and another contemptible song dawned my ears...AGHAST still no check! The second song ends..."How long does it take to run a credit card? Will we miss the second coming?" Thankfully half way through the third song (the first one was a 6 minute song, mind you) the check finally arrives. No food in front of us, nor liquids as he hadn't refilled my date's soda.

We got our food in 15 minutes and paying took almost 28...Never again shall my tongue be saddened by this hole in the wall whose lighted sign no longer shines!

They try to satisfy the client whatever the cost maybe. Today  it was ood. they were a bit tooooo  late... in serving my 2 slices and salad. I really do not know what was going on. In any case, time run out, and  I had to have it to go, but I was charged nothing. Thanks. I appreciated it. It was the right thing to do, but I was not expecting it.

Kavanagh's is your typical family pizza stop. It's exactly like the places I used to go when I was a kid, minus the arcade games.

The lunch specials are pretty fantastic: usually 2 slices of pizza, a salad, and a soft drink for $7 or so. Service was friendly and willing to move the TV's around so we could watch the game.

Don't be fooled by the fancy lingo on the menu: their margherita pizza is plain old cheese.

Kavanaugh's is a good neighborhood pizza place, but not a great one I would go out of my way for.

They have a good variety of specials, one for each day of the week. We came on a Wednesday, which was lasagna and 1/2 price wine night. I don't usually order lasagna from restaurants but it was a good deal. In the end, my boyfriend and I thought it was better than their pizza, which was decent but a little bland. Don't bother with their side salad-- it was literally some iceburg lettuce with cheese and mushrooms (that you can tell they use on their pizza).

As much as I want to support local places, I was bummed out when I came on a Labor Day and found out that they weren't doing their Monday night deal. While I can understand it to an extent, if patrons come out to your restaurant for a special and the place is practically empty, I would oblige. Alas, we decided to go eat next door instead.

I met up with a friend here for lunch the other day.  It was a bit of an impromptu lunch date and with the many choices of restaurants in Glover Park, we ended up here.  The chalkboard on the sidewalk advertising the specials caught our eye :)

It was around 1pm on a monday, so it wasn't crowded at all.  We were seated immediately in one of the booths.  I ordered the 2 slices of pepperoni and onion lunch special and my friend got the 2 slices of margherita lunch special.  These lunch specials came with a caesar salad and a beverage as well.  The salad was good. fresh.  My birch beer never showed up, but that wasn't a biggie.  The pizza itself really hit the spot.  I boxed up my 2nd slice for a snack later in the afternoon.  And each lunch special was around $7, so not too shabby.  I wouldn't be opposed to coming back sometime to see what this place is like for happy hour or something.  Too bad Glover Park isn't near a metro for easier access.

Located in a semi-submurged (but surprisingly light) Wisconsin Avenue storefront and formerly known as Facia Luna, Kavanagh's is a decent place to grab a bite if you're in Glover Park and crave pizza.  Their pizzas are wood-fired; not so unusual these days, but what sets them apart is that they come in three sizes:  6, 8 and 10 slice.  I'm partial to the Carciofi (artichoke hearts and sweet red peppers.)  It's not life altering, just good, solid pizza in a friendly neighborhood setting.

Nice big bar area with long wooden bar and five drafts including Yuengling and Sierra Nevada, another dozen or so in the bottle (Guiness, Magic Hat #9, Hoegaarden, etc.) plus a great sunken outdoor seating area in front, for those sunny days when you just HAVE TO sit outside with pizza and a beer.

What this place lacks in ambiance, it makes up for with decent pizza.

Kavanaugh's is sort of in a pit of a location (literally) on Wisconsin Avenue in Glover Park.  The inside is a bit on the drab side, but outside seating can be nice for people watching.

The menu has salads, sandwiches, italian favorites, and pizza.  On my visit, I went with a simple cheese pizza while my fellow diners had pomodoro pizza and Chicken Parmesan.  Overall, the food was well made and very reasonably priced.  It's not 2 Amys, but it's worth it if you don't want to wait for hours.

Service was pretty good, both attentive and knowledgeable.  However, as a crowd began to build, we felt a bit rushed as we lingered over our drinks.  The waitress actually came over and asked us if we were going to order anything else, and had a look in her eyes as if we were annoying her.  Loses one star for that.

The place is a little out of the way, up the hill from me.  Kavanagh's is nestled into the side of a hill, so you can sit outside off the sidewalk and street.  Inside are booths, which make eating a pizza pie off an elevated platter that much better with pitchers of beer.

A little pricey (just barely) for what you get for dinner.  Dollar value comes second to filling a pizza craving if you live in the Glover Park area.  Not the best for getting take-out because of the price.  Especially with a Whole Foods across the street and a Pizza Hut down the hill a bit.

I'm surprised I haven't reviewed this place since I've been coming here for at least 8 or 9 years. Anyhoo, Kavanagh's is a nice pizza parlor in good old Glover Park. I've recently come to the conclusion that they're kinda like Potomac Pizza but without a bunch of little kids. I don't know why exactly... their plain cheese pizzas are pretty similar.

The best 'zas here are the margherita, the bianco (white pizza) and the "la capra." That last one has goat meat. It's godly. The 14" is pretty big and serves three or four people just fine. I haven't really tried anything else here besides the pizza. Their prices seem to have gone up (or I might just have never noticed them) but it's still reasonable. Head over to Max's for dessert.

Kavanagh's is a little out of the way, this place is nicely knit into the Wisconsin Avenue stretch, way way up the hill....With an outside sidewalk sitting or indoor booths, its a nice place to enjoy a meal and drinks with friends. The ambiance is like the neighborhood pizza place i remember from my middle school days, making this place cozy and casual.

Good quality pizza, kind staff, but overall, a little pricey for what you're getting. If you're in the neighborhood, stop on in and trying something local and that's not a chain, but not really worth a special trip.

Terrible pizza.  I used to love this place when it was Faccia Luna, but it went down a bit after staff bought it and turned it into Kavanaghs, but it seems to have slid down even more.  The pizza was greasy and bland, worst crust I've eaten in years.  The ambiance is always good for a local dive, but not worth the $25 I paid.

We tried Kavanagh's on a recent visit to D.C. and I must admit that I was expecting just another pizza joint.  I have never been so happy to be wrong.  Their menu is large enough to offer variety, but small enough to ensure good quality food.  Hubby and I split a Grecco pizza which was absolutely delicious - the crust was thick enough to hold the bounty of toppings without being doughy, while the sauce and toppings were fresh and flavorful.  My kids were impressed as well, both giving it two thumbs up.  My 7-year-old food critic wannabe ordered the kids' pizza, declared it "the BEST PIZZA EVER" and proclaimed the sausage to have "good texture".  Rather than being pre-baked or frozen as most standard kids' pizza offerings are, it was freshly prepared with shaved (not crumbled) sausage exactly like the grown-up version.  My 11-year-old ordered fettucine alfredo and I managed to snag a bite before she inhaled it.  The egg pasta tasted fresh and the sauce was smooth and creamy - again a smaller version of the regular menu item.  Beer selection was decent, tv's in the bar were showing sports, and they had plenty of seating compared to other restaurants in the area.  We were there on a Monday night around 8:00 and were seated right away; not sure how it is during the dinner rush.  The service was good; no complaints there.  We will definitely go back when we visit D.C. again.

I literally just walked in the door from Kavanaugh's. Surprisingly I had never been there, despite living in Glover Park for two years. If you've read any of my other reviews, you'll know that I am generally a positive person who gives credit where credit is due.

Here is where credit is due for Kavanaghs:
The pizza is genuinely tasty.  The wood fire does a lot for a pizza in my book, and the crust and dough were both very delicious after a turn in the oven.  We got the "Pollo" and the "Bianco" pizza, and both were very delicious.

    Here is where Kavanaghs SUCKS:
SERVICE IS AWFUL.  Our waitress paid attention to us until she got ONE other table, and then completely ignored us.  We waited over 30 minutes for our check, despite asking, flagging her down, staring at her, putting on our coats.  She was too busy flirting with the other servers to give a damn about our table.

Another bad thing?  I know this is just a pizza pub, but their selection of beer is awful. Not to mention they were out of half the tap.

Lastly, the prices are WAY overkill.  The Bianco pizza we got was a 10" (which is a small 6 slices) and that was a decent price.  But the Pollo (Which is pesto, red onions and "chicken" which turned out to be chicken sliced so thin i thought it was cheese) was $13.00 for a 10".  It was good, but totally not worth 13 bucks.

Final Word?  It's good for a small cheese and a miller lite---but there are plenty of restaurants in Glover Park that are much more decent, and actually give a crap about the people sitting at their tables.

If you're looking for a decently priced pizza and a few good beers to wash it down, then check this place out.

My friend and I, both out of towners, were craving a pizza when we came across this little spot in Glover Park, across the street from Whole Foods. As we walked up it appeared to be very crowded, with large amounts of people standing around out front. The crowd itself was mostly younger, early-mid twenties, minimal DB-ness. We discovered that, by chance, we'd come on their half-priced pints night, and if you sat at the bar you got free pizza.

Granted, the bar was packed, so we took a booth instead and quickly decided on the Pollo pizza (chicken, pesto and garlic). For about $15 we got an 8 slice pizza, not too shabby. Their beer selection included Magic Hat #9, Stella, Heineken, Sierra Nevada and a few others. Most of them ran between $4.50 and $6, which wasn't bad at all considering I could get a pint of a solid beer for under $3.50.

Granted, the service was a bit slow. I had to wave down the waitress to get another beer. But it was very crowded inside, so it's hard to blame her. Our pizza came very quickly though, and with prices like that on Thursday night I will definitely be returning in the future.

Kavanaugh's probably offers up some of the best pizza in the least pretentious setting you'll find in the area(I'm looking at you 2 Amy's). You'll never have any diifculty getting a table, and it does have cool outdoor seating. The inclusion of the Keno machine at thebar does mean you'll encounter some interesting sorts and various hours of the day, but some would argue that adds a little charm, albeit an interesting business decision. Would definitely eat their pizza more often if they deliverd, because hands down beter than any other delivery option out there.

I ordered the gluten-free pizza that they had. It had been a LONG time since I had been to  order pizza from a restaurant and I was excited about it. It was decent, but very pricey. As in, $18 for one pizza! With tip added in, it wasn't worth it for the price.

You have to pay the regular 10" price, plus an additional $4.50 for just a cheese pizza....the toppings are extra at either $1.25 or $1.75 apiece. I got 3 toppings:garlic, artichokes, and sun-dried tomatoes. The crust itself was good, but they literally put maybe 4t of sauce on it. Very dry. So if you are gluten free and crave the novelty of being able to order pizza in a restaurant, this is an okay place if you don't mind shelling out the bucks.

Walked by this pizza place on the way to the grocery store and suddenly had a craving for pizza.

Glancing through the menu, I decided on the Genoa, which is a Pepperoni and Salami pizza to-go.

The pizza was fulfilling and subsided my craving, but I would not give it more than three stars based on the pizza I got...It was good, but not exactly close to amazing.

Will go back to give it another shot with another type of pizza though. 3 stars for fulfillment, great service even for carry-out and nice environment.

After hitting the gym, my friend and I realized that post-workout grub was scarce in the Glover Park area.  We were looking for something cheap, appetizing and, most of all, nothing that would guilt us back into the gym.  Fortunately, we stumbled across an unlikely treasure right across from Whole Foods.  Too nice to be considered a hole-in-the-wall pizza but not quite a fine pizza establishment like 2 Amy's or Matchbox, Kavanagh's Pizza Pub is reminiscent of those family style restaurants that your little league baseball team went after every game.  Even the awful maroon-colored walls felt like childhood memories.  Plus, there IS a baseball field right across the street.

On any other night, Kavanagh's may not seem like much but this was Tuesday night.  And Tuesday night meant a 12" pizza with two toppings, two salads, and two drinks (either beer, wine, or soda) for $22.  There are 27 toppings to choose from, including roasted sweet pepper, Genoa salami, and feta cheese (but probably not in that combination).  We ordered grilled chicken and red onion for that delectable combination of sweet and savory.  The portions were just right without feeling too full or greasy.  There's a light smattering of tomato sauce topped with the right amount of cheese and fresh ingredients.  Places like Papa John's and Domino's simply can't compete with the smoky thin crust made from wood burning ovens.  The bottom line - always choose a pizza that's simple and fresh.  Although Kavanagh serves other dishes, why ignore the wood burning oven especially when it's a mere 15 minute wait?

If you've read my other reviews, you'd think that I was just another Anton Ego (from Pixar's "Ratatouille").  It's not that I don't like eating out but I simply abhor over-priced food.  I look for places with great value, which doesn't necessarily mean "cheap eats" but it does mean establishments where the food, service, and atmosphere are priced below what you would normally expect to pay.  I don't think I'll patron Kavanagh's on any other day because its regular prices make the pizza rather ordinary.  However, on any given Tuesday, Kavanagh's is certainly a cozy neighborhood place that simply hits the spot.  This is certainly one of a few places that I'm glad I dropped by.

The food here is pretty good, but I never remember it when I'm thinking about places to get pizza. I used to live in Glover Park, and would come here about once every other month. But since I've moved out of the neighborhood, I haven't been back. (I have been back to the neighborhood for Busara, numerous times.) The atmosphere is good here, and it's nice that you can sit outside when it's warm and do some major people watching. But not much really stands out to me about this place.

Kavanagh's basement location and somewhat garish red neon sign mustn't  deter you from entering, for once seated at one of their retro (meaning 80s-90s) booths, you'll revel in the affordable prices, excellent food, and outstanding friendly service.

Furthermore, this is a pizza place without the grease factor. I may be scarred from visions of wilted looking salad bars at X Pizza Place along the road of life, but Kavanagh's certainly helps to fix that. Imagine! A salad at a pizza place that you could eat without picking out the discolored lettuce and mealy tomatoes! There are a number of decent salad options -- I characteristically jumped on the Mediterranean salad. It was fresh and delicious.

The pizza too was yummy with many options--both standard and fun--for toppings.

All in all a comfortable neighborhoody joint that's just right when you're hungry, a little bit poor, and unwilling to continue further up Wisconsin Ave to wait an hour at Two Amy's.

Okay if you're looking for a decent place to sit down and grab a slice.  If you're ordering out, Romeo's is definitely a better bet, and if you're looking for a good eat in meal, 2 Amy's is the way to go.  But if you're looking for a place where you'll never have to worry about a wait, this is a good option.

If Kavanagh's had an old Pac-Man machine next to the wall, it could pass for a Pizza Hut from the 80's in terms of atmosphere.  However, I find it sort of refreshing that it's not trying to be all high concept.  It is what it is- a pizza parlor.  I've never ordered anything but the pizza here, but the pizza is terrific and up there for me in terms of DC pizza.  It's cooked in a wood oven but has more heft than your super-thin Neopolitan style pies.  The BF and I always select a few different toppings, but our favorite combo is probably salami-mushroom-onion.  It's another place you can get in to on a Friday or Saturday, and not drop a fortune.  If I had one wish for Kavanagh's, it would be for them to expand their beer menu.  The last time I was there, I noticed they had a couple of new things, so maybe they are working on it.

Yummy pizza and pretty good lunch specials.  This place has a comfortable interior and a small outdoor patio.  Mmmm, I'm getting hungry thinking about it!

It's a pizza pub. Not supposed to have arcade games, those can be found in the mall. If you want adult pizza, salads, burgers and other good selections with a brew or other adult beverage, this little place would do fine. Not the best, certainly not the worst.

I'm so glad Kavanagh's is in my neighborhood! Located downstairs from Heritage India and next to Bourbon on Wisconsin, Kavanagh's is in a great location. The service is always very friendly. The highlight of this place, however, is their deal on Tuesdays. For $24 (unless they have changed it recently), you get two drinks (beer and wine included), two salads, and a 12 inch pizza with two toppings. SO much food for two people, and at a great price. Delicious pizza too!

We come here quite often - probably once every 2 or 3 weeks - when we're too lazy to cook or get dressed up and don't feel like dealing with the Georgetown kids that haunt most of GP.  We're fans - the pasta dishes and salads are average-to-good (though occasionally you'll find a gem - I LOVE the Mediterranean salad - so hard to find places that use hearts of palm) and the pizza is great.  The crust is just right.  Kavanagh's service is decent and prices are good.  Beer selection only average.
