Awesome white-sand beach. As the others commented, access is limited on a first come, first serve basis - meaning, get there early! I would suggest before 10am at the latest.

Bring your own snacks and shade. There are restrooms and areas to wash off. What I liked the most is that since they limit visitors, it is not overcrowded. I heard the locals sneak in if needed.

Great beach but hard to visit when the season is in full swing. Corrupt money-grubbers in the state government have given private control to access here, which apparently means 15 passes per day, not refreshing when someone leaves.

Dirtbag hoteliers... Happy arson to the beach thieving ha'ole! Screw you! Have a nice recession!

That being said, I got in with no problems. Would hate to be in a van full of kids wanting to swim on a busy day, though...

A public beach located within the Mauna Kea resort.  Seems to be a very nice quiet resort.

be forewarned, it seems theres a maximum # of cars that are allowed to go past the guard booth.  our tour book said 30 cars, but it seems like there were more than that at the parking lot, for the public beach.

the staff (guards) were very nice at the gate, and gave clear directions to get to the beach parking.  though as a result of the car restrictions, the beach is very quiet, which is definitely nice.  the sand is as nice as hapuna beach, and very picturesque.  i found the water to be clearer and less murky / less wave surge than hapuna as well.  this is definitely worth a visit if you're in the waikoloa area, or staying on the kona coast.
