Good basic lodgings just minutes from Lihue Airport. If you are looking for a clean, comfortable place to shower and sleep in Kauai, I think this is a pretty good deal for $75 per night. We were planning to do a lot of touring, sight seeing, and hiking, and so we didn't really need the amenities of the pricey resort hotels. Kauai Palms fit the bill nicely. Our room with 2 twin beds on the second level was pretty small, but the beds were clean and good sized, and the bathroom was clean and the shower stall sufficiently roomy. The water pressure is pretty good also. The only complaint I have was that there were several burned out light bulbs which weren't replaced during our stay, and the fridge in our room was hot instead of cold. Oops.
The location was convenient, as it was easy to drive to the north, west, east and south shores of Kauai, and there is plenty of parking. We were there in mid June and did not need air-conditioning. The ceiling fans and open windows provided plenty of cooling breezes and ventilation for comfortable sleeping. There is a laundry room onsite and free wifi, along with cable TV in the room. There are lots of local style eateries nearby, and the Lihue mall with Macy's, Border's and K-mart are a 10 minute drive away.
Kauai Palms seems like it caters to business travelers as well as tourists - there seemed to be a fair number of people hanging out in their rooms during the evenings. -

We needed 2 extra nights nights on the island and I found Kauai Palms online. The pictures on their website made it out to look like a great place. I will say that the staff was great. However, the room no so much. It had not been dusted in quite some time. There was a ring of dust over the ceiling fan, the bathroom fan looked like it was wearing a fur coat it was so dust filled, mold and mildew in the tub and the worst part is that is was roach infested. I personally will never book there again.

Convenient location, affordable prices, friendly staff. What else can you ask for? And like A.C. said, it's right next to Hamura saimin!!! The room was relatively small, but the bed was nice and big, and the bathroom was fairly clean. It was pretty much just right for what we needed, a place to shower and sleep. When I go back to Kauai, I will definitely stay at Kauai Palms again!
PS: The super helpful guy who checked us in was a plethora of knowledge! Thanks for all the advice and information!!! -

Best accommodation I've ever had: The Princess Cruise Ship cabin. Parents paid. Still give Kate V and me grief about the thickness of our bar tabs.
Worst accommodation: Shithole in the Cinque Terre. I do not use the word shithole lightly. When I employ that epithet, be assured that the place is just a hair away from being a literal toilet.
Kauai Palms: Light years away from the Italian shithole. For $70 a night, we got a king-sized bed on the second level. The ceiling fan worked. The closeness to the airport was helpful, and the location of Lihue serves as a handy gateway to both the North and South shores. The ceiling fan worked. A flat-screen TV sat on the wall, although I never turned it on. The ceiling fan worked. We encountered three different employees at the front desk and each one was really nice. The ceiling fan worked. The sheets felt clean and ironed. Did I mention the ceiling fan? And for the air-con aficionados who turn up their noses at that so-called primitive means of keeping cool, let me just say that my lips never chapped. They always do when I stay in a room with an air conditioner. I'm sensitive about that sort of thing.
The only sore point resided in the dingy bathroom. Sure, we got cute and complimentary shampoos from The Body Shop, but the bathroom almost put me off wanting to use them. The floor and shower stall needed some one-on-one time with a scrub brush. The first time I ever wore flip-flops (slippahs, for the Hawaii readers) during showers was college. The last time in the past two years was at the shithole in Italy. The most recent time was the Kauai Palms. My threshold for filth can be alarmingly high - I blame my Catholic upbringing - but that shithole opened my eyes. Kauai Palms could do much better in that area. How about picking up the shredded, used tissue near the toilet? I know, tourists and their crazy-ass demands. It's a trifling aspect since the price is so low. The simplicity of the room welcomes the weary traveler who needs a place to lay her head but doesn't plan to spend too much time camped out in a room while on Kauai. Anyway, you could do much worse with other budget-level lodgings. How do you say "still kicks that Italian shithole's ass any day" in Hawaiian? -

Terrible.
We checked into our room....walked in....and left to find another hotel within 10 minutes. It was THAT bad.
I can't speak for the other rooms, but our room was basically reminiscient of a room that someone might want if they needed it "hourly".... The staff when we checked in was extremely friendly, which was an odd contrast to the room.
My husband and I booked this place based on their website, and felt completely deceived. Their website pictures show CLEAN, newly painted, decent rooms. The pictures are completely NOT what you get. Here are the highlights of our room:
-Holes in the carpet and weird stains....it was filthy
-Holes in the wall/paint falling off the wall
-King size bed crammed into a janitor's closet sized room
-about 1 foot of space of "walkway" between the bed and the wall to get to the "bathroom"
-Bathroom tiles...dear lord....the floor was coming apart with huge spaces between the filthy tiles
-Shower....you would not go in here to get clean. Rusty, dirty, scummy....
-Towels were falling apart, faded, mismatched, and dirty
-Paper thin walls. And doors. And windows.
-The door to the room was basically a screen door with some flimsy wood on it. It had open vents that didn't close.
-Lock on the door was a joke--anyone could easily break in
-Brand new flat panel TV....hmm....secure, locking door that closes all the way, or flat panel TV?
Do not trust what is pictured on the website; complete waste of time and $75.00. Unsafe, loud, filthy, crammed. Nice staff, nice cat...but don't advertise to trick your online customers.Comment from Rick S. of Kauai Palms Hotel 9/23/2010

This place was perfect for what we needed. We were just here one night since we fly stand by and wanted to see what Kauai was like. It is only a $10 cab ride to the airport and a $10 cab ride to Kalapaki beach. It is a bit noisy because the windows don't really close and it can be windy on the island. Also the many roosters are very loud in the morning. I noticed a few bugs in the bathroom, but it didn't bother me because they were only there. Very cheap and great location for the budget traveler.
