2 reviews for Kathmandu
If you haven't smelled the incense before you walked in, your nose must be plugged. And to further set the mood and theme, unique music was playing outside and inside the store. Adorning the walls and display shelves were distinctive pieces of art, clothing, jewelry and knick knacks. It is a store unlike most on Park Ave. serving those wishing to be transported to Mumbai.
They do sell quite a big of incense and in the infamous Nag Champa if that is something you burn at home.
The beaded tank tops were amazing to look at and almost too pretty to wear. They had Jasmine-esque sandals that came to a point at the toe and spectacular wind chimes. The turquoise jewelry pieces were specifically my favorite. Gorgeous pieces any woman would be lucky to own.
I also noticed the sign on the door that states that Kathmandu is a pet friendly store. A great note for people who enjoy broadening their horizons as well as their pet's.
Psychedelic and groovy are perfect words to describe this quite little Park Avenue shop. In my opinion it doesn't really fit in with the other posh, more sophisticated shops that line Park Ave, but it definitely adds character. The shop is filled with eclectic knick knacks and gift items that are largely influenced by India and various religions. This would be a good place to shop for someone who enjoys exotic things or for something who you always have tough time shopping for. Strange and rare objects are a staple in this shop...and the merchandise gets stranger over time. The prices aren't bad, depending on what you buy of course.
Overall, it's okay...a place I'll go to from time to time.
