We had the french toast orgy and hash plate. Both were pretty much perfect. Coffee was excellent and arrived quickly. Our server was speedy and generous with his lovely smile. I was hungover and megatime hungry. I left refreshed and satisfied. Man I'm having good breakfast luck lately!
Edit: the jalapeno relish is amazing.
There's always a line, but it's not anything spectacular. I think there are just a lack of breakfast places in lower haight. Ate here twice, once I went right when the place opened on a weekend so no line, however, the staff were eating first and made us wait outside for 15min after the place was supposed to open. This would have never happened on the East Coast lol. Got the regular breakfast, it was average. Second time wait for at least 30 min on Sunday around 11am, got the corned beef hash, it was a little better than average. Also tried the cornmeal pancakes and green onion scones, those were okay as well.
Again, not worth the wait. If you want to wait, go to Just for You or Boogaloos.
We had an incredibly unsatisfying lunch here with some friends.
I had seen a line out the door last time I was in the neighborhood, so I thought it would be a sure thing. Although, I hadn't checked the Yelp reviews.
The menu is quite honestly...boring.
But, after walking around for awhile, we were all starving.
My guy and I decided to share two dishes: a short stack of cornmeal pancakes, and an egg sandwich.
We requested the egg sandwich on whole wheat bread, which I'm really glad we did, since it was probably the best part of our meal.
The potatoes that came with the egg sandwich were awful, no flavor, and not even properly cooked.
The egg sandwich was fine, I think it would have been really hard to screw this up.
The cornmeal pancakes were bland and completely flavorless.
I've had cornmeal pancakes before, and have loved them, but these were a waste of money. Seriously, how hard is it to get decent flavor in them?
When the server asked how we liked everything, i said I didn't really like the pancakes. He asked why, and i told him I thought they were pretty bland. He didn't offer to bring anything else out, nor did he comp them, (even though we didn't even eat half of them.)
All in all, a waste of lunch in the city.
BF and I got here shortly after they opened and it was already half full. There were only one waiter at the time, and he was busy taking orders and bringing out dishes for others, so we seated ourselves. He came over shortly to greet us and instead of having him come back later while we look through the menu, we ordered right away because we knew it was going to get pretty busy very soon and we both knew exactly what we wanted.
BF: Big Guy's Breakfast ($9) Two Cornmeal Buttermilk Pancakes, Two Strips of Bacon, Sausage Patty and Home Fries.

I took a bite of the sausage patty and I LOVED it. I'm pretty sure it's housemade. Neither of us liked the pancakes. Sure it was huge and fluffy, but we just didn't like the cornmeal taste.
New England Flannel Hash ($8.50) Corned Beef Hash Browns, Two Eggs and Toast.
http://www.yelp.com/bi...
Not the typical canned corn beef hash, (minced potatoes and ground beef), but instead it is prepared with big chunks of meat and vegetables. It's too bad that the corned beef were inedible. The leaner pieces were so dry and tough, it was impossible to chew. The other pieces were all plain hunks of FAT. The hash, however, were delicious! All the veggies, (carrots, onions, celery, and potatoes) had some amazing flavors to it. I'm guessing all the corned beef fat drippings got soaked into the hash.
Our waiter was very much occupied with all the other tables the whole time we were there. Like I mentioned, he was the only wait staff at the time, so BF only got his coffee refill once. As we asked for the bill, another couple had sat at the table right next to us. Our waiter couldn't squeeze through to get to us, so he literally tossed the check across our neighbors to BF. LoL!
I had the oatmeal which was a multi-grain with fruit affair that they served with maple syrup. I rather enjoyed it. I wanted to try the cornmeal pancakes but I wasn't hungry enough unfortunately. My friend got the meatloaf sandwich which he thoroughly enjoyed. The menu seemed pretty diverse as far as breakfast and lunch go.
I also tried the ginger ale which they make there but it was late in the afternoon. This meant that it was pretty flat but otherwise pretty gingery.
This place has a lot of potential and I'm looking forward to continuing my research in the near future. They do pack you in though.
Ate a pretty late breakfast after waking up on a lazy day with my boyfriend. This place is kinda hidden away on the street if you're not looking for a place to eat. Kate's was recommended to us by a family friend.
It's a very cozy atmosphere, red and white checkered table cloths, very cute place.
We walked in, and for some reason it looked like all the tables had been moved by some large animal passing through the room..they were all askew and oddly placed. We looked around for someone to greet us and it just so happened she was sitting in the corner stuffing her face and reading the post. Why she wasn't eating in the kitchen, and out of the view of the already seated guests, is beyond me. She looked up, smiled and said with a full mouth, "anyferee yoo lik!"
So we opted for the least confusingly placed table. Right in the middle of the room.
So we sat down and looked over the menu and I had the Cream of Asparagus soup with one of their KILLER signature green onion cheddar biscuits and for the main course I had the veggie scramble. Which was pretty good, the eggplant was a bit unseasoned and a little distracting texture-wise. The eggs were beat to hell and a little overcooked. The pesto was great...the sun-dried tomatoes were missing? My boyfriend had the Lower Haight Omlette which he thought was in his words "decent" (I don't think he cared for the potatoes much).
The meal was however, rudely interrupted by music coming from the kitchen...Selena, batchata and reggaeton music BLASTING from the kitchen and out into the restaurant. Wow. Our waitress could be seen in the kitchen dancing and joking with the chefs...perhaps a door/curtain of some kind would be useful.
It kinda sucks that this place is cash only...however, the prices are very reasonable. When we were leaving the waitress never said thanks for coming or anything though, kinda left a sour taste in our mouths.
The food is good, and it's cheap. It's a recession buster for sure...but the quality of service could definitely be better.
So I have been living in Upper Haight for years now and only now happened upon this gem of an establishment this past weekend. From the fresh menu selection that changes weekly to the amazing wait staff, I was thoroughly satisfied with my experience. If you ever do do to Kate's, you want to have Caitlin as your server. She has the entire menu memorized with great comments and opinions, which is perfect if it is your first time and you are having trouble deciding on what to order. Though I didn't order them, Caitlin seemed to be a BIG fan of the hush puppy's...maybe next time
I had the hash and eggs, it was nothing at all like the traditional hash one would expect, more like the ingredients of a beef stew cooked like corned beef hash...that's the best I can do to describe it.
Overal, a wonderful experience and a new breakfast destination if I ever find myself in the Lower Haight.
The place is small so it fills up quickly. The pancakes are great. I definitely recommend the bacon/cheese hotcakes. Downside was no Coke or Chocolate Milk.I tried the homemade ginger ale but wasn't my style. Service is good and prices aren't bad. They have a sticker on the front window that says people love us on Yelp which I thought was pretty cool.
Had an omelette with shrimp and peppers... I think it was called across the border or something; tasty enough. Some of my potatoes (home fries) were burnt, and the wheat toast was good. Also had a lemonade spritzer, which made me with I had a flask of vodka with me. Cashola only.
I have been trying to get to Kate's Kitchen for awhile. I was recently visiting my daughter, I am from the South Jersey shore and my daughter is from San Francisco. We finally made it to Kate's about 10:30 am on Thursday Oct.15th, 2009. There were about 8 people there so we pretty much had our choice of tables. I had the buttermilk/cornmeal pancakes with maple syrup, sausage and coffee (a few cups). I got several extra syrups as cornmeal cakes tend to soak it up more so than other cakes. I do not remember what my daughter got but there was plenty of it, she enjoyed it but couldn't finish all of it.
After reading some of the reviews, even the not-so-good ones, I knew this was my kind of place.
We waited about 15 minutes for our food which was served hot,by a very nice girl named Noelle (hope that's spelled right). Maybe a weekday, shortly before the lunch rush is the time to be there. I will be there on my next visit.
Nothing beats a cheap yummy "breakfast" (at 2 pm) when you're hungover. Very casual, if slightly hectic, atmosphere.
I highly recommend some of the specials. I had an omelet from the specials once that blew my mind. Their egg sandwich type things are also pretty great and nice on your wallet. I also noticed they were recently named one of the "favorite places" in SF on google. Good for them.
Watch out for some the the "quirks" here though. To get to the bathroom you have to go through the very busy kitchen. Pretty funny but potentially not the best idea... Also the waiting staff can be up and down. Last time I went in though, my waitress was super friendly and bubbly. Always nice way to start your day...
Oh yea and watch out for the hush puppies. Highly UNrecommended for hangovers
Love the Lauren's Special! Service here used to suck, but we came back for the great food. Today the service was great! Prompt, mindful, and friendly. Thanks all!
Would be five stars but I hate the coffee they serve here. :)
Went for a late breakfast on a weekday. Got:
- Biscuits w/ vegetarian gravy was a really good starter
- French Toast w/ bananas and strawberries was great, and not too sweet like most other french toast
- The homemade lemonade spritzer is really fresh and crisp
Overall, a good staple breakfast place to go back to
A fun, casual, homey environment. I was able to get a table right away on a Saturday afternoon. My BLT was great, but it's pretty hard to screw one that up. The hush puppies were pretty disgusting, practically flavorless and loaded with grease, but a necessary excuse to eat that delicious honey butter. When my dining companion bit into his egg sandwich, egg spilled all over him and the table. Speaking of tables, seating is cramped, so be prepared to learn more about the strangers next to you than you ever wanted. Similarly, don't come expecting to have an intimate gossip-filled discussion - you will be judged!
The best part of my trip to Kate's was the service. A cute, bubbly waitress with excellent hand writing (hey- it makes a difference when the check comes!) named Caitlin brought me everything I asked for with an award-winning smile. Kept me smilin' all day.
The potatoes LOOKED amazing but tasted so strange. My party decided it must have been because they were frozen or something because they were distinctly undercooked. The meat in my dish was severely under-seasoned and tasted like complete mush (I got some egg/pork dish). Pretty much everyone else I was with said their food was "ok" or "BLAH"
The service sucked. The girl who took our order repeated it back wrong several times. Then the person who ordered first at our table received his food last.... twenty minutes after the rest of us.
Don't go here, there are so many better places to eat in SF.
Their strawberry jam is crack!
Took a bus to come here for breakfast. It was worth it. The apple juice was super delicious. The meat in their breakfast hash is super fatty and delicious. The carrots, um, not so good. But they didn't ruin the meat in anyway. I just picked around it and only ate the meat.
But it was the jam that was so freaking good. It really taste like strawberries although I know it is just jam. I swear I can just eat that with like 10 slices of bread and I'm super happy!
Total came out to $20+ for 2 ppl. Well worth it.
Honestly, five stars.
Cornmeal banana walnut pancakes. Real corned beef & hashbrowns with fresh wheat toast (buttered), and two scrambled eggs.
Across the table from me was a farmer's breakfast, and a tart orange juice.
The service was perfect, and everything was fresh. You know you really like a place when you are discussing what you are gonna order next time you come in.
Spent less than $15 a person, and had a quick, yet fulfilling Saturday morning breakfast.
Can someone tell me what it says on the wall?
This place rocks. - the food comes in heaping servings and it all tastes amazing. We had a short 10 minute wait on a Sunday afternoon. The french toast can feed an army! Many of their dishes include unique ingredients and combinations of toppings. There are so many things on the menu to try, I'll definitely come back.
Our official SF guide took us here for breakfast - though we explicitly asked for a place that served mimosas and bloody Marys. As headed toward Kate's we popped our heads in some potentials but found no libations, so by the time we hit Kate's we had given up on the idea and just wanted to eat.
I am really glad we waited. Of the utmost importance about Kate's is that they have menu item named after me (Lauren's Special), which, of course, I ordered. Two, their chairs are wicked comfy. Three, their flavored (unsweetened) ice tea was the incredible (berry). Reminds me of what they serve at Pita Jungle - I have to find this brand, it is soooo good.
The server was patient with one person in our group's somewhat difficult diet limitations (though I suppose that's pretty common in California). Food came out pretty quickly, though the waitress seemed to actively ignore us for 20 minutes after we were clearly done eating (hard to do in such a small place and considering she literally walked right by us several times to get to the kitchen).
But the food was great. My poached egg was perfection and the potatoes were yummy too (boo to no Chalula or Tapatio, come on, is this California or what?). Their house hot sauce looked like watered down Tabasco - and I find Tabasco to be pretty watered down anyway. But some people at the table tried it and said it was a-ok.
Solid breakfast for $6. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw menu items for $5.95. Eating at the likes of Dottie's and such, I forgot that breakfast should probably cost that much. $2.50 for a tall glass of OJ. Hallelujah.
Another one that I wish I could give 2.5 stars instead of 3. The majority of this review is my fault as I was lame and trying to be healthy, so I ordered a salad. Blah Blah. Salad was OK. I ordered it with chicken and the chicken was thin, dry, and not delicious. The salad itself was good and fresh, but the chicken was pretty poorly cooked and presented. My man ordered eggs and potatoes. I definitely ate half the order of his potatoes (which were just ok, lacking a lot of salt) and his eggs looked ok. He's pretty boring when it comes to food variety (hahahaha, j/k) so I didn't try the boring scrambled eggs.
The service was great and there was no wait (which I hear there's almost always a wait), but we also didn't arrive til 1 or after. Nice, relaxed atmosphere, with some cool art too. CASH ONLY.
Kate's Kitchen and my torrid love affair with Hush Puppies.
You didn't blow me away. Another case of having high expectations i guess. I love Hush Puppies, and ever since BlueJay Cafe took them off the menu, I've been looking for a spot that has them. So on a rainy Friday early (I mean EARLY!) morning, my room mate and I decided to head over to Kate's. Dude even before i walked in, i could just taste the deliciousness of Hush Puppies! Drool!!!!.......
We were seated immediately and of course i ordered the Hush Puppies with pooh butter, along with a side order to cornmeal pancakes with bananas and walnut's,(yes! in my world pancakes are a side order!) and home style biscuits. I couldn't stop thinking about the hush puppies, the wait was agonizing!
Now here i am, having set myself up for major disappointment. It's like going out on a blind date. You're expecting some one totally hot to walk in, but that's not what destiny or that dude from work who set you up with his "HOT" co-worker, had in mind. I can't even tell you how disappointed i was. The first bite of the hush puppy, and i didn't see stars. COME ON!! it's not supposed to be like this! this is worse than a break up!
The hush puppies were oily and pretty flavorless. The pooh butter made them better, but you now, it's like that pretty chick you know who wear tons of makeup, isn't that pretty without it. It's just not the same and It can only get you so far. In addition, the pancakes were weird and grainy. I can still feel the graininess in my throat. Ugghhh....
The service was the saving grace. Quick and efficient.
And to top it off, Kate's in a cash only establishment. Great!
So I'm insanely disappointed, BlueJay still won't bring the hush puppies back and i ended up paying 16$ for breakfast. I won't be back.
2.5 Stars, but .5 for giving me hope. The quest continues.......
Oh Kate's how I miss you! I was a regular back when I lived in SF and now when I visit, we make sure to have at least one breakfast at Kate's.
Hush Puppies are the best ever. Pancakes portions are super generous - i.e. you won't finish them.
Sad to say that I've yet to come across a place that can match the food and the vibe here in NYC...
I will now go and dream about Hush Puppies. Sigh...
Kate's Kitchen came highly recommended from a few friends of the SF breakfast circuit. Kate's was described as having one of the "best" breakfasts in the city. Well, after making my way over to Kate's I can agree. She really is "one" of the best... *ahem* one of a hundred best breakfasts in the city. Too bad it's not in the middle to upper echelon.
There is no pretense upon arriving at Kate's. It's sort of a hole in the wall grease spoon breakfast house. A few tables, a few chairs, a few servers. Nothing fancy and nothing exciting.
I ordered the "meat omelette" which consisted of bay shrimp, onion, garlic, tomato, and spinach. On the side came potatoes and toast. The omelette arrived and appeared unappetizing due to its rather large oil slick that puddled in the lower side of the plate. Either Kate's last name is Gilroy or she is deathly afraid of vampires because the garlic in this omelette was so overwhelming it usurped any and all flavor from the other ingredients. Furthermore, the shrimp were tiny and scarce and the potatoes were burnt and cancerous. When the entrees title says "meat" omelette and contains bay shrimp in quantities you'd think came from a "bathtub sized" bay I call bs.
The French Toast Orgy aptly named for it's cornicopia of flavors and messy chaotic appearance was nothing amazing. It's a typical French Toast but topped with granola and yogurt *yawn*. This French Toast should be called the cialis infused "swingers over 80" French Toast because it was dated and stale. If only Kate's pepped it up a bit with thick slices of egg battered cinnamon whole wheat toast, coated in macadamia and hazelnuts, topped with enough fresh fruit to sell on a street corner, blanketed with vanilla Tahitian butter, and accompanied with nutella and coconut maple syrup dipping sauces... only then would it be a true Orgy of greatness.
In summary, the food lacked flavor, variety, and quality. If it was 3am and I was drunk without any concept of money or a palate then sure Kate's would be a great spot, otherwise try something much better like... Brenda's, Mama's, Dottie's, Crepevine, etc....
This is the first place where I tasted cornmeal pancakes. They are great!!!
Kate's also has an ever changing menu of breakfast plates that you can't help but be adventurous to try. The french toast is the BOMB!!!
And, they have great freshly made sausage.
I ordered a small and basic breakfast, but was not overly impressed. The English muffin was good, but the homefries were greasy. The strawberry jam was great, but the jalapeno too sweet. The neighborhood isn't the best, but the bus is nearby. The service was friendly and the atmosphere was comfortable. I did feel that this was nothing special, with the exception of the strawberry jam.
My answer to "What would your final, pre-death meal be if you could choose?" is at Kate's Kitchen, and it comes in the form of a gigantic pile of orange spice (not too orange or too spice) french toast, yogurt, granola, fruit, honey and maple syrup. The French Toast Orgy absolutely, 100% rocks. There is nothing fake, girly or wussy about this dish. It requires a battle plan and a full arsenal of weaponry from the second it hits your table. But believe me, it can be finished! You can beat this thing!
When taking on this beast, remember to pace yourself. My 4'11" friend can usually out-eat me any day, but she rushed and left with a stomach ache and a bruised ego (and the girl can eat). Don't rush. Savor. This is seriously some of the best pre-hike or pre-bike food you can eat--it doesn't put you to sleep. All that granola somehow balances out the sugar coma most french toast induces. I've eaten this thing and walked to Ocean Beach and back without hesitation or weariness.
I can't attest to any other dish at Kate's because in the last five years, I've never ordered anything but the Orgy. It all smells good and looks good, though. They make a really good hand-made ginger ale. The prices are incredibly reasonable for what you get, and the waits don't tend to be too long. Even with ten parties in front of you, the cattle prod is frequently used in the form of extremely efficient service, so the line goes fast. In this case, the line is genuinely a reflection of very good food, instead of lazy waiters and laggy patrons.
Kate herself? Wander through the kitchen toward the bathroom to see her in action. Wow. No wonder things move quickly. She is one bad-ass woman.
Don't let the exterior, neighborhood, or even the interior greasy-spoon-looking atmosphere turn you back. Eat here, and be happy. Oh, and bring cash!
Hm golly.. what to say.. The fella likes this place, so i guess in a frame of full disclosure, this review will reflect a mean on our opinions to arrive @ its star value (aren't i civilized ;) . There was a wait by the time we arrived : not too late a la Sunday morn.. and so we meandered and caffeinated elsewhere. Once settled inside 30 min or so later, i liked the atmosphere-- homey and charming in that way of being entirely uncharmed with itself. Service was prompt and though one substitution was blotched, it ended up on his plate rather than mine, so at least it wasn't lost entirely. All this said, i'm picky in the realm of "clean eating" and hope to find something of organic, fresh feel on an SF BFast menu. The veggie scram promised the potential of this, but failed to deliver, rather oil drenched, no herbal/delicate dimension and that slip of the mouth feel wasn't olive or extra virgin coconut (i know, toss the health nut from her soap box before she gets too deep..). Anyhow, i'm unlikely to clamor for a return, esp w/ Samovar so nearby (uuuummmm.. egg bowl with seaweed..) but can appreciate the large portions post eve out that drive other more flex consumers of the cooked-oil-genre to its doors.
Four-star food plus huge portions equals five-star rating.
The first time I got the French Toast Orgy (one of the most aptly named meals I've eaten in my life), and the second time I got the breakfast scramble.
Very reasonable prices, and the homemade sausage is absolutely incredible. Either go here really early or really late on a Saturday or Sunday though, don't go between 9 and 11.
I often wonder if the 3.5 star-review is due to all the stupid hipsters who intentionally enjoy criticizing what everyone else likes.
Went here with three other friends on a three-day mini vacation to SF. Found it on some traveler magazine thought it would be a tourist trap then Yelped it and saw all the great reviews. My visit that day was on point.
I didn't try the french toast orgy, which I regret. I always say order the unique/staple item on the menu. But I did try the Cornmeal pancake and hush puppies with pooh butter. Yum, everything was fresh out the kitchen.
I also got the Corn beef hash with potatoes. I wish they put a little more time into cutting the potatoes and veggies to appropriate size and uniformity, but who am I to ask that when the place was soo busy and they need to fulfill orders?
Anyways Kate's Kitchen, SF you were great!
Oh No You Didn't ...just order:
-Hush Puppies
-Side of grits
-Buttermilk Pancakes
-Coffee to wash it all down
Oh yes I did...guuuurlfrien'!
Kate's is one of the better brunch, greasy spoons, featuring a wall of specials, cozy seating and a Southern fusion breakfast menu. Portions are on the Incredible Hulk side, so order more w/ head, less with stomach and eyes, unless you've been trapped on an Island for the last five years of your life, with a lipstick wearing, pet volleyball you've named Wilson.
Warning: Lines on weekends are huge, so get in early, or put your name in and get coffee at one of the three area cafes.
Such a great find! Yes you might have to wait for about 20 to 30 minutes on the weekend - but go grab a cup of coffee across the street at Cafe International, and just enjoy the fact it's the weekend! For under $10 I got the BEST breakfast sandwich - the Lauren Special - 2 sunnyside up eggs on a kaiser roll with aioli, tomato, onions, cheese, avocado, and meat (I passed as I am a veggie) plus home fries. Throw in a coffee and some friends - that's the recipe for a great weekend.
Great place for breakfast, although it is a place for gorging. The cornmeal pancakes and french toast are great, but don't plan on eating again for the next week or so. Used to come here regularly when in town, but I found it to seriously hamper ability to eat for all other meals to follow, thereby causing an unacceptable opportunity cost. Still, one of the top choices for breakfast, and probably the top choice in the neighborhood.
GET HERE EARLY! Arrived here for brunch this morning and just happened to luck out.....wrote our name on the list and 10 minutes later, we were shown to a table. What a simple, creative menu. The interior was small and cozy, but with great staff energy and a friendly neighborhood spirit. Had the hash and eggs and D had the cornmeal pancakes. With the generous portions and some bold coffee, it was a super way to begin a Sun(less)day! Tell your friends!
this place is completely over-rated. the food was plain and service was bad as well. i spent $24 with my friend for breakfast and we only enjoy the water, eggs, and the wheat bread. Squat&Gobble (around the block) could've been a better choice.
I got the Lauren's Delight or Special anyway, it was a Kaiser roll with a fried egg, tomato, red onion, avocado and some sort or other of aioli and homefries. My boy got the big boy. Yeah, it was one of those breakfasts at 3:00pm, somebody deserved a big boy, heh.
Anyway, it was fresh and tasty, and the servings were seriously ample. The service was prompt and friendly and on a sunday near closing, almost empty of other patrons.
The decor feels fake to me, sort of like someone thought 'this is what sells right now', instead of an authentic vision. But the menu works with the down home theme and that makes it all ok.
I would definitely recommend a visit and a deeper dip into the menu, maybe come with 2-3 friends with the specific intent to share items.
Yummy!
Its pretty simple really. After waiting for about a half hour for a table, a group left that would've seated the party of three that I was in and we were next in line. we were excited. Unfortunately, 3 minutes before they left a group showed up that knew the host, and after they put their name down on the list, were quickly ushered inside to what was suppose to be our table. When we said something about being skipped, the host assured us that we would be seated soon. we were no longer excited.
we went to home and had a much tastier meal.
and you know what? the potatoes are always awful at kate's anyways. and if you eat their sausage, you will burp it for the rest of the day.
Just go.
Say yes, to trying it.
It's worth it...believe me.
Three words "French Toast Orgy."
Yes, it was as good as it sounds.
The pictures on here are pretty accurate, the waitress was really nice, not to mention...pretty cute. Food was great. Coffee, was suprisingly, pretty decent. You know...when you see the lady come out with a pot of coffee to fill your ceramic cup at a restaraunt, you aren't really expecting much for flavor, but it was pretty great.
Good meal. Good price. Nice area [lower haight].
Thank you, to Kate, and your kitchen.
Try it out.
I will give yall one star for the food, because it is good.
You lost the other 4 stars on the service and your business management practices.
A week or so ago 3 of us went to Kates for some brunch at about noon on a Sunday. Typically you have to wait a while at this time for a table. We had no problem waiting, the food is worth it. After about 30 minutes of waiting we saw the 3 top seated in the window opening up. Being the next group of 3 on the list we were sure this would be our table. Time to eat!
As we waited for this group to leave we watched as a new group of 3 arrived out front. They put their name on the list and then said hello to a waiter they knew. We saw the waiter tell the host to seat them next and he crossed them off the list. We thought no way they were getting that 3 top, but we will wait and see. Two minutes later the host came out and told them to come sit at that table, OUR table. We flipped, we told the waiter we saw what happened and we were not happy, that we wanted to talk to the manager. The waiter said "why you bugging out, we will seat you in a few minutes." he also asked us not to talk to the manager. The manager was even worse though. He claimed that the group had made a reservation. YOU DONT TAKE RESERVATIONS. IT SAYS SO IN YOUR YELP PROFILE. Dont you think I would have made a reservation if I could have? I mean, I have been to your restaurant like 20 times and I always wait and it isn't because I enjoy waiting. Reservation? Really? Really? Thats the best you could come up with?
The Manager then tried to seat us at another table a minute later. We said no thanks we will eat somewhere else. He said "FINE" with all the attitude he could muster and then flung the door closed behind him.
Betches.
YUM! I found out about Kate's Kitchen from a tour book and they suggested the french toast orgy. I'm never one to turn down a quirky-named dish, but I mainly was attracted to the innovative grouping of yogurt, fruit, and french toast. We had to wait a while for a table, but it was so worth it! The french toast was as appetizing as I had imagined and the serving size was generous.
My only problem was the cramped tables, but it's a small, quaint restaurant; they can't help it.
I can't wait to go back and clean off another plate of french toast!
