KAT WAS GREAT! So accommodating. Really made me feel at home. Her place was very calming. She was very nice and sweet. She's a perfectionist and does take her time. The end result is worth all the wait. Great place!

Kat Salon is a true find. I have never received haircuts with greater attention to detail and technique. Kathy never rushes a cut, and recommended and executed adjustments to my style that she designed to best compliment my face--and she was spot on. I'm really happy with the results! The salon is peaceful and in an amazing location. Absolutely recommended!

I have waited several days to post this...previously gave Kathy at Kat Beauty Salon a five star rating with all the compliments I could. I have now removed it. Based on the following I would not give her even 1 star just based on her business ethics alone.
I have been a faithful and loyal customer to Kathy for about 5 years for all services, highlights, color, Haircut, Brazilian Blowout, mani/pedi and waxing. All these years I have been coming every 5-7 wks for color, several times a year for BB and about every 3 wks for pedicure and waxing.
Since the end of January my husband had been home recuperating from major surgery while staying at another residence in Riverside. I have had a lot on my plate to say the least. I recently made an appt for highlights/color. The afternoon prior, I fell and broke my right foot(which has hardware from a previous break and surgery). I was determined to make my appt, however, the morning of I was in excruciating pain and my foot was very swollen. I called Kathy and rescheduled less than a week later knowing I would receive medical treatment by then. The day prior to the next appt the person that was going to drive me had to work so I called again with over 24 hours notice and rescheduled for the following week. Again, the day prior and 24 hours notice I had to cancel again. Since I had to rely on someone else to drive me from Riverside I told her it would probably be best for me to just have someone here do root touch up and then schedule with her when we returned to Newport the following week. She said ok. I apologized profusely as I do
understand her time is important.
2 hours later I received a text telling me she could no longer have me as her client because I had canceled 3 times. I guess her lack of sympathy to my extenuating circumstances got the best of her or she was influenced by another source. I texted her several times and called several times, leaving her a vm as I was very upset. Her read receipt is turned on so I could see she read my texts right away. She would not answer my phone calls nor return my calls or texts. An initial phone call, discussion, warning would have been nice just based on our time together/professional relationship. I offered to pay for her time lost even though I had never done this to her before in the entire 5 years, but, again, understand her time is important. I am just heartbroken over what has happened and still can not believe what was behind her lack of empathy to my situation and beyond my control. I considered her, not only my stylist, but my friend. This is also why I offered to pay her for my appt time lost.
We all know there are 3 sides to every story. Yours, theirs and somewhere in the middle. I think I got this side pretty close. I could not control my circumstances and I am a very responsible and professional person. In this instance I feel Kathy lacked any feeling for me and lost a great client, what happened is just not good business in my opinion, but her choice.
After 5 years of faithful and continued service I am just shocked she did this with no discussion whatsoever nor ill intention. I can only wish her the best and the next person all the best on one of her "off" days.

Every three weeks I have my hair cut, colored and washed by my own personal stylist, Kathy Island.
Kathy has been doing my hair for over fifteen years and I have always been pleased with her work.

If I could give Kat 10 stars I would because she deserves it. Not only is she a fantastic hair colorist, cut & stylist she is just a beautiful person inside & out.
She carries a wide variety of high end styling products and shampoos at terrific prices. Much lower than anywhere I've ever seen, so if you're not in the need for a cut or color but need styling products, I encourage you to check out her prices. She is very welcoming, even if she doesn't know you.
Her salon is very clean and tidy, which is a must for my taste.

I was looking through Yelp since I was left with a terrible hair cut the day prior and stumbled upon Kat's Salon. Kat saved my hair and brought it back to life in exactly the way I wanted it, adding light layers all around and even in the back - which before I was always told couldn't be done. She's very knowledgeable and honest with what's realistic and she definitely won't steer you wrong. I love how detailed she is and that she takes her time to make sure the job is done right. My haircut with her was perfection. I have found my new favorite hair stylist!! Thank you SO very much, Kat!!! :-)

Today I had kathy do color and cut my hair. I was totally pleased the color looks natural and
fells great. The cut and styling was prefect.Kathy takes her time and asks the right questions.
She takes a great deal of pride and passion about her profession. I lived and worked in NY for over forty years and never received as many compliments as I did today. I highly recommend

I love this Salon. Kathy is very accommodating with your schedule. I can get a late appointment on Sunday evening as well. She does nails, hair cut and eye brow waxing as well. She does a very good job of all these and at very decent prices.
Her Salon is super clean too. I recommend this place to any body. She is very patient, attentive and hardworking!

Kathy is the best! Not only does she cut and style my thick, unruly hair perfectly, she cuts it in a special way that it grows out perfectly too! Her attention to detail is astounding, and she truly cares about and takes pride in her work. The salon is cute and comfortable, and also in a fantastic location. It was a challenge to find someone who can deal with my hair, so I know the struggle of bad hair cuts and searching for hairdressers. Luckily, I have been Kathy's client since 2012. I even moved to Maryland and still make sure to see Kathy while I'm in California visiting family and friends. I recommend Kathy to anyone and everyone who wants an amazing haircut and wonderful experience.
