Just came back from a fantastic first experience at Kashish. Food quality was top notch at every step from the invigorating lentil soup opener, to the fresh, tender, well spice balanced basmati rice, to the expertly made chicken tikka masala.

I'm a big fan of Indian food and I have been looking for a good "go to" Indian restaurant for a while that is reasonably close to my workplace in Waltham. I tried all of the Moody street Indian restaurants with disappointing results until a friend mentioned Kashish in Belmont.

As I have only been once, I cannot attest to the rest of the menu, but considering the service was good, lunch special was reasonably priced (~$8 with rice), and it had a cultured yet unpretentious atmosphere, I will be going back every week.

Bottom line, if you crave Indian food in the area of Waltham/Belmont/Watertown, then Kashish will make you happy...

Park in the lot directly behind, it's free.

Great Indian. I usually (a.k.a. always) get the chicken tikka masala and saag paneer, of course with a mango lassi. The chicken tikka masala is WONDERFUL. The chicken is cooked really nicely, and the masala sauce tastes perfect. Now onto the saag paneer, which was also amazing. The spinach was creamed like it should be, and tasted great. And they always give me nice portions of paneer (which some Indian restaurants fail to do). Mango lassi was great, but it had ice. Ask for it with no ice. Also the rice was very good, which surprised me.

I ate lunch in Kashish in Belmont Center today, and the staff showed me to a table about 8 inches from other people.  The restaurant was empty, with only 3 tables in use.  Can I sit at another table further away?  No, he says - that side of the restaurant is "closed."  The "closed" section is about 3 feet away from the open section.  We say again we want to sit somewhere else, so rather than let us eat in one of the 20 empty clean tables, he slowly cleans a dirty table and makes us wait.  Why make people sit on top of each other when the restaurant is empty?  I will never return to this place.  Rude people.

Went here last night for dinner with the boyfriend, because I was craving Indian something awful, and nothing else was going to do.

The interior is romantic and welcoming--dim lights, dark wood. Even though the restaurant was only half full it did take a considerable amount of time for anyone to take our order--probably about 10 minutes of just waiting with menus closed. But the waiter was friendly and brought out our food quickly after we ordered.

Generally, I order my chicken saag hot, because I know that invariably, if I order it medium, it will come mild, and I will be unhappy with the lack of spice. I don't know why, but I guess I look like someone who can't handle her spice (although I most certainly CAN!)

Last night, I ordered my chicken saag hot, and guess what? It was HOT. Full of amazing spices that made my eyes water--in the best way. So props to the waiter/cook/whoever actually cooked my order the way I said I wanted it. I was impressed.

Overall, the food was yummy, service was friendly, and prices were reasonable. Its definitely my new go-to "nice Indian dinner out" place.

A friendly place and a great choice for a family dinner if you and your kids like Indian food.  My daughter chooses Kashish every year for her birthday.
Great choices for kids: the lentil soup and the chicken tikka (which comes without sauce; the sauce is served on the side).
    The mango lhassi is delicious.
The waiters are friendly and accommodating.
    The naan is wonderful.
Since there are kids in my crowd, everything we order is mild -- and that's good for us -- but it means I can't comment on the reviews saying the spice is lacking when spice is called for.

This place is fantastic. When I lived in England, I got spoiled by the diversity of the Indian food available to me there, as there were so many different options.

Kashish serves both North and South Indian cuisine, which is a big plus in my book. This is extra helpful when I have vegan friends over since they have more options.

Their Roti is fanastic, as is their Poori, and little on this earth makes me as gastronomically happy as their Navratan Korma or their Malai Kofta.

The staff is relatively friendly, they are willing to adjust the spiciness of your food according to taste, the ambiance is nice, and the prices are great for the quality of food you  are receiving. I wish that they had a buffet because the food is so good, however the fact that they do not seems to speak to the fact that they are more interested in providing quality food vs. moving huge volumes of it.

OH and of course, the Galub Jamum is fantastic. Like little balls of love floating in a sea of rosewater and honey.

Also, their food holds up very well as take away, but it's a nice restaurant to eat at as well.

My husband and I went here for dinner a little after 8:00 on a Saturday night, and were very surprised to be the only ones there. I know Belmont's a more family-oriented crowd, so 8:00 is a tad late, but we had some initial concerns that the lack of people had to do with a poor quality of food.

Luckily, we were wrong! After we were seated, we were immediately given water, crispy bread and a caddy with three condiments to dip the bread in. The sauces were each delicious and balanced each other out, and I also love snacking as I peruse a large menu.

They have a surprisingly nice wine selection, and a few large bottles of Indian beer. I had the house Cabernet Sauvignon, which was very good for an affordable wine, and my husband got a bottle of Taj Mahal beer.

We got one order of garlic naan - which was huge, and more than enough for 2 people. My husband got the chicken tikka, which is his go-to dish at an Indian restaurant, and really enjoyed it. He especially liked the presentation, which was a sizzling plate of the chicken and veggies, probably because he's like a child and enjoys food that also makes noise.

I got the lamb korma, and asked for it spicy. It was also delicious - not too hot, but that's fine because for people who really like to be in pain while eating can ask for extra spicy. The meat was super tender and well proportioned, though I would have liked a few more raisins.

The service is fine, if you're in the mood for a relaxed dinner (which we very much were). I don't like to feel rushed while I'm eating a nice meal, and can't ever recall having an empty water glass so even though our waiter didn't visit excessivly, he was obviously attentive and just came at the right times.

We were given a seat at the front window, which overlooks the main drag in Belmont Center. It was very pleasant to chat, and then people-watch the folks outside. The enjoyable atmosphere rounded out a thorougly nice date for us!

I have eaten here on many occasions and have never been dissapointed. The staff is courteous and food is delivered promptly and  piping hot. Some of the tables are a bit  of a tight sqeeze if you sit along the wall.  The menu offers a good mix of regional dishes and standard curry dishes.  The ambience is relaxing, though don't have an intimate private conversation here unless you don't mind other people listening. The acoustics are a bit odd in that voices really carry here.

Ummm...yum!!! This is by far the best Indian restaurant I have found in the area.

Everything we had was delicious. The atmosphere was nice, and we sat there enjoying for some time without being pressured to move. We ordered one appetiser (the chef's choice of breads, large), 4 meals (lamb curry, chicken tikka masala, chicken vendaloo, and tandori chicken), side of raita, side of mango chutney, and 2 22 oz beers all for $80. AND EVERYTHING WAS DELICIOUS!

If you like Indian food, you MUST, I repeat MUST go to Kashish.

I have been here a dozen times, and I keep coming back. The food is fantastic. This is my favorite Indian food in Metro Boston. I love the Naans, Masala Dosa, Samosas, and everything else I have placed on my glutenous palate. This is a fabulous dining experience.

The final straw for convincing me this was such an amazing restaurant has been the 2 Indian families I have taken hear. I have heard them bemoan every Indian restaurant they have been to. The closest they have come to enjoying the food that reminded them of home seemed elusive until I took them here. It is now their favorite restaurant in the Boston Area. If that was not convincing I don't know what could have been.

Not as good as Punjab in Arlington, but very close.
They have a very good menu and are very willing to make any additions or subtractions to any dish you'd like. They are very friendly and have a nice restaurant, but you can just walk in off the street and have a casual meal, or come out for a romantic date.
Fast service, quick turn around, and take out, out no delivery :(.
You can take the T or there is parking on the street, or a lot in the back.
Reasonable to good prices and an over all two thumbs up!

HOLY MOTHER OF GOD KASHISH HAS GOOD FOOD!

    Dear Kashish Chicken Tikka Masala,
I want you! You taste so YUMMY. No other Chicken Tikka Masala compares to you. I love you, but I have ocassionally cheated w/ the Vindaloo. Forgive me. Even though eating you led to me gaining 15 pounds when I moved to Belmont, I will not stop. I will just work out more. Nothing can keep us apart!

This was my first experience with "Kashish." As one would expect, the staff is quite laid-back and accommodating. The restaurant itself has a decent vibe - quite peaceful.
Now for the food. The chicken vindaloo was red and tomato-based, whereas I'm accustomed to a yellow-ish tone. As for the heat? Almost no kick to it. There is a subtle tingling of the lips which creeps up, but it was nothing impressive. The aloo tiki is quality, as is the raita (yogurt, for you savages out there). The chutney was a purée. The mango bahar ice cream is exquisite.

Any place that starts a meal with complimentary papadum gets an automatic  stars in my book. That being said, this place was great.

Waitstaff was lacking a little personality, and the spicy factor could have been cranked up a notch. We tried a vegetarian dish, a lamb dish, and some samosas. All we tasty and plentiful, and we carried a huge doggie bag home. The mango lassi was sweet and refreshing, and not too yogurt-y like some places get.

It was a little pricey for Belmont, but I guess I would jack my prices up too... Since most people who were dining there were upper middle class. Made me feel like a that scene out of Pretty Woman.

Went again this past weekend with my sister.  We got the Mixed Grill (Tandoori style).  The portion was small and the food didn't have much flavor.  The samosas were also salty and subpar compared to others I have tried at other establishments.  The garlic naan was nowhere as good as their potato naan which I had tried previously.  Just like my previous visit, service was painstakingly slow again.

I do like that this place is near my house, but it's a shame that only some of their dishes are worthy of trying.  It's not a good sign if one must only stick to staple dishes such as vindaloo and tikka masala!

Kashish is a great little place in Belmont for a quiet Indian meal.  The food is good - the waitstaff is a little standoff-ish, but Im not going to count this against them, because the waitstaff has been this way at every Indian place Ive gone to - and Ive gone to many.

Just moved to Belmont Center, and this place is a big contributor to the warm feeling I get about my new neighborhood. The dining room has a relaxed, classy feel to it, and the service is quite good.

And the food!, Oh the food. High quality, authentic Indian with lots of excellent vegetarian options. Good nan too.

They do take-out correctly as well, so you get enough rice, tamarind sauce and chutney.

It's a tad on the pricey side, so not for everyday, but it's a super treat when you want to a step up in quality.

I took a chance on this place for a New Year's Eve dinner with friends, since I hadn't been here before. Fortunately, it worked out great. I called the day of for a reservation thinking I was going to get turned away and it wasn't a problem. It was also regular price and not some jacked up New Year's Eve ripoff like a lot of restaurants. The entrees are mostly under $15 and good portions.

When we arrived, our table was ready and we were promptly seated although they weren't maxed out, so we could have walked in and got a seat. The decor is simple and tasteful, and they have nice lighting.

We started with a sampler platter that had a mix of appetizers. I'm not a huge Indian appetizer fan to begin with, but I tried a few of the items. I would categorize it as a mixed bag, some good, some not so good. It was a lot of food and there was still a good amount left even after four of us had noshed. Next time I would skip the appetizer and save my appetite for more of the entree and naan.

I was spoiled for choice with the variety of menu items which is usually not the case for a picky person like me. I got the chicken curry and asked for it to be very spicy. It was very spicy, but not so spicy that I couldn't enjoy it. Everything about it was delicious; the flavor and the texture of the sauce, the tenderness of the chicken, and it didn't have any "funky bits" in it.

Being a proper Yelper, I had to try my friends' dishes so I could give a proper report. The shrimp korma and the chicken masala were both were super. In addition, the garlic naan was great as well as the chutney and sauces that we devoured and had to get refilled.

The service was pretty good, but I wouldn't call it exceptional. Our server wasn't quite as attentive as he could have been, but my sense was that he lacked some experience more than anything else. My friend had asked about the ingredients of one of the appetizers to make sure there wasn't anything he was allergic to and the waiter said he would check. He never did, and we had to ask him again. He also didn't quite get that when there is an empty plate at a table, you should take it to make room for the next plate. However, he did get all of our orders right and the packed up our take-homes correctly.

We were the last people to leave and although they were starting their prep for the next day, I didn't feel like they were pushing us out the door after we just spent a good bit of cash.

I will be making this one of my neighborhood haunts when I'm looking for some spice and rice!

After reading the reviews on yelp, my family and I decided to give this one and try because we love indian cuisine. However, the only thing good about this restaurant is the open kitchen where you can watch the chef bake his breads. After taking our orders the servers completely ignored us and our food took forever to be delivered, which we knew were ready because we saw them being made. We then had to wait over half an hour for them to bring out our food. I expected the breads, being appetizers, to come out first but they came out with the rest of our food which defeats the point of ordering appetizers. And they didn't come to refill our waters until we had asked them to.  The food itself was fine, nothing spectacular. I was disappointed in the level of spice because I had asked for spicy and instead got a sweet curry and the mint paratha that I ordered didn't have any mint flavor and didn't even smell of mint. And in the end they charged us an insane amount for tip.

I wouldnt recommend this place at all. I know I'm never going back.

"Kashish in Hindi means attraction and an indescribable desire for the finest pleasures in life."

I copied that from a Globe article that prompted me to try out Kashish... and I'm glad I gave it a shot.

This Indian food is wonderful... full of flavor.  The chef greets you and encourages you to try things you may not have tried before.  You can watch your food being cooked on the  tandoor through windows.  The Naan is hot and fresh and yummy.

Even if I didn't live in Belmont I'd eat here.

I've been here at least half a dozen times in as many months, and always find the service good and the food tasty.  We did take out last time, and the portions are way generous.  We were eating leftovers for days (and it always tastes better the next day anyway).  We got my new favorite entree which is black lentils served in a gingery goo.  Delectable.  The vegetable pakoras managed to stay crispy on the ride home, and the naan was big enough to cover the table.

My only gripe is that they give you tiny amounts of condiments on take out orders.  I love that onion chutney stuff, and forgot to get extra, so I had to end up sharing.

Belmont, come for the food, stay for the Mitt - chances are, he's not home!

I can't live somewhere without having a go-to Indian restaurant. Luckily, Kashish more than fits the bill. We only ate in the restaurant once, and it was nice, but we usually do take-out. They have the huge portions that I expect from an Indian place (I like to have dinner and then lunch the next day when I get Indian food), and their food is really delicious. I love the curries--not too liquidy, but not too dry. They are very good about adjusting the spice level (I love Indian food, but I have a weak palate and need it mildly spiced). I am usually torn between the Aloo Chole, Aloo Muttar, and Chicken Tikka Masala. It usually works out because the boyfriend gets the Tandoori chicken, which comes with tikka sauce for dipping--which he doesn't eat! Then I get my yummy vegetarian dish and a bowlful of tikka sauce that I eat with nan or rice.

(Yes, the others who said that the tikka sauce here is amazing are right...I would usually never consider getting tikka masala for a meal, but the sauce here is so incredible that I need to have it!).

The people here are friendly, and they always give you plenty of free basmati rice. The nan is a bit expensive, but each piece is so huge that usually we just order one and rip it in half, which makes it about equivalent to two normal sized orders of nan.

Hit Kashish on a Wed night for dinner with a few friends.  I grew up eating Indian food, so I'm pretty particular about flavor.  Unfortunately there are a lot of mediocre Indian restaurants in the Boston area and in my opinion, Kashish is one of them.  It is a nice restaurant and they had a few good points, but our dinner entrees were bland and just okay, nothing impressive.

We started with the mango lassi, which I will say is DELICIOUS!  It was perfectly balanced sweet and tangy, not too thick, just the way I like it.  YUM.  Then we got the vegetable pakoras.  These were actually really good too.  So the meal started out pretty well.

But then dinner came.  My husband and I shared the chicken tikka masala (my absolute favorite dish, the dish by which I judge all Indian restuarants) and the palak paneer (another favorite of ours).  They were really bland!  The sauce on the chicken tasted and had the consistency of canned tomato sauce.  The chicken was okay, but the sauce was very disappointing.  The palak paneer was okay, too bland, but the paneer was too dense and tasted store bought.  I was pretty disappointed.  I can make both dishes better at home.  The naan was okay, but I like mine fluffier and theirs was pretty chewy.

It wasn't a cheap evening and I found myself regretting not going to my favorite Indian place in Woburn, but our friends didn't want to drive that far.  Oh well!  I might head back for lassi and appetizers, but not for dinner.

This is my favorite restaurant.  I've been here about 15 times, and each time I go into this beautiful nirvana-like food trance.  I think they might slip some hash into the curries.  Good things to order:  Chicken/whatever you like Korma, Saag, Tikka Masala + Raita and Naan.  The Gewurtz-Tremainer tastes really good with the food, highly recommended.

The decor is really beautiful.  There is a nice golden glowy light in the place that adds to the ambience.  There is also this lovely food-perfume smell which hits you when you walk in.

    Great place!

    Reliable, solid Indian food.

I have been here twice- gotten chicken korma and sag paneer, along with naan and samosas.  All have been great.

The last time I was there the naan was a bit later than the rest of the meal, but only because it was just made fresh and arrived at the table piping hot & steaming.

FOUND A HAIR IN MY KORMA!!!!

I had lunch here on a weekday afternoon. My friend and I were the only customers there. The waitress was slow and inattentive, especially considering we were the only table. I ordered the vegetable korma and immediately spotted a hair in it! YUCK! GROSS! The waitress was nowhere to be found, so I flagged the manager/owner. He didn't seem to believe me until I fished out the black hair with my spoon. He sent it back to the kitchen and do NOT offer me any discount or even naan on the house. My friend went on the eat his chicken tikka salad, which looked like a salad you might find in a pizza house--topped with croutons and olives, not what we were expecting. Finally my new hair-free korma arrived, but my friend was almost done with his meal--making for an awkward staggered dining experience. As we left the manager muttered "sorry." I WILL NEVER EAT THERE AGAIN. FINDING HAIR IN YOUR FOOD IS UNACCEPTABLE!

Kashish is my first try with indian food, I had my friend order for me and everything was perfect.  The kashish combo platter was probably some of the coolest looking apetizers I've ever seen and they were all delicious especially the big fried I dont know mashed potato curry ball?.  Tried both chicken tiki masala and chicken vindaloo, both were great entrees for someone who was a little hesitant to try indian food, but now I'm over the fear and have seen the light.

One of Best in Boston for Nothern Indian Cusine together with Flagship restaurant Kushboo in lexington. It has no Buffet which is good since it servce quality food. Down the street from my house. Decent Wait staff who will take your order and will try to customize and make it really spicy if you like( I learnt the hard way). They provide papadums just like chips in Mexican restaurant. They also have dosas which aren't bad. I would highly recommend it. Please make resevations if you go there for dinner during weekend.

Really solid Indian food in the suburbs.  I prefer Khusboo in Lexington, which is owned by the same people, but the food here is almost as good and the service is great.  I haven't been in a couple of years, but i used to go here with an ex sometimes and we always enjoyed our food.  I got their vindaloo a lot, nice and spicy.

5 stars because I truly can't imagine Indian food getting any better than this. It's just so tasty! My usual order is the aloo naan (stuff with curried potato, yum), and the chicken korma. They are both to die for. The naan is perfectly textured and so delicious that I could eat it by itself, and the korma is just the right mix of creamy/nutty/spicy. People I've eaten here with several different times have commented on the quality of meat that's used in all the dishes, also.

Given the taste, the price is not bad--my boyfriend and I usually do aloo naan, chicken korma, and chicken vindaloo for takeout and it's $30.

Um, they have Naan Sammiches.  Yes, lunchtime naan sammiches.  It's crazy.  I haven't had one yet, but I will soon and report back.

Aside from the revolutionary naan sammich, food is good all around.  They have a window by the tandoor oven so you can see them cooking pulling out long skewers of chicken, which is always fun.

    No buffet.  Linen napkins.

Service was awful, food was ok... I would rather go to Punjab in Arlington.

I'm not sure what all the fuss is about...  The food here was average, the service was mediocre, and the atmosphere was very plain.  Don't get a booth table, because the booth seats are only about 12 inches deep, so you keep sliding out of them.  The vindaloo also tastes like marinara.

I went there on a very cold night and we were seated right away near the store window.  I ordered Channa Paneer (chick peas with cheese cubes) that tasted very good but was way too spicy hot for having requested mild.  It gave me terrible heartburn, too!  My friend ordered lamb saag which he said was delicious, but also hotter than mild.  The breads we ordered were very good, and rice came with our meal without extra charge.  Service was attentive and friendly.  By the end of the meal, the cold streaming from the window was so unbearable that we left sooner than we had anticipated.  If I ever go back, I will impress on the wait staff the need to understand what "mild" means, and return my plate if they don't comply.  There was a constant stream of customers picking up take-out, so they're doing something right!
    UPDATE!
Returned many times since my review, and the food was delish and came exactly as ordered in terms of spiciness!

Indian cuisine in Boston usually means a mediocre buffet served up in a lavishly decorated storefront for a rock-bottom price.  Kashish breaks away from this mold, delivering reasonable servings of classic Indian dishes like Chicken Tikka Masala and Saag Paneer, along with some more creative items like naan-wiches (I'm not kidding).  Although the prices are at the high end for neighborhood Indian cuisine, Kashish has become our #1 take-out option in Belmont.

I am always struggling here, because the food is very good (I would give it at least 4 stars, if not more), but  the "atmosphere" is quite bad, i.e. the staff does not seem to understand the concept of using deodorant and washing their clothes.  Since this can really cut into one's enjoyment of a meal, I have given it only 2 stars.  Every once in a while I go back because of the good food, hoping the "atmosphere" has changed for the better.  But so far it has not.

Great for an easy, quick Indian meal.  Kind of a surprise for Belmont, this place is one that I'm hoping will be around for a while (but there's rarely more than 3 or 4 tables seated when I'm there, even on a Friday evening).  Very good naan, and the red curry & tikka marsals are up there for my favorites.  Very good prices, and they even have a small bar.  Definitely worth a try.
