Review from cassie r.
After disappointing HH efforts at Villains, I'm so glad my colleagues and I have made the move to Kasey's.
Any place that has "Quadruples" as a beer menu category was MADE for me.
We've been here a few times after work to celebrate one thing or another (or to just unwind with a good beer after a long day). The service is a bit slow at times, but the quality is always high.
Word to the wise - no food to be found here, so if you're jonesin' a snack, you may want to hit up the seven eleven down the street first. Or grab a burger at Hackney's before heading over.
There's always space when we're here, so fighting crowds is rarely an issue. Good beer and space to enjoy it? Count me in. -

Long drawn out bar with an ice cold AC. Don't go here alone the crowd is pretty much groups that hang out together.
also if you like ice cold AC then this is the place, they have a pretty decent list of beers and their tap is also no to shabby.
they serve pizza and the bathrooms are clean. -

So my first ever one star review. Let me preface this by saying I usually always go on tuesdays, seeing as I always have Wednesday off. I usually end up here because I have friends who live just down the street so it's convenient for a beer or two.
The server is always the same girl, she's always somewhat surly, borderline taciturn. It's not charming, it's annoying. We always let her know we are industry, they give us a discount of a dollar off each drink. So last Tuesday we took a seat and ordered a couple of beers (they didn't have any cold peroni, which was annoying) and a jack Daniels neat. We were done after an hour and asked for the check, we got it, noticed there was no industry discount and let her know. Now we've been here at least 4 times together, so we figured she'd remember, but I'm not faulting her memory, I'm faulting the shitty way she responded. She said you should have told me in the beginning, I can't do anything about it now. I was confused, she handed us a hand written ticket, how can you not modify that? We are obviously industry, we know how to tip, we are not trying to rip you off.
Our entire table was dumbfounded, it us not like you have a complex order to modify, or a labor intensive computer system...its a paper ticket. It's not like you had anything that you could have made weaker because we were getting some mixed drinks.
Ugh, I hate doing it, but we took it out of her tip. She's never friendly, slightly rude, and tried to make us feel shitty about not mentioning that we were industry, earlier. I can get a cold hoegarden anywhere in the city, without the piss poor attitude.Comment from Tom B. of Kasey's Tavern 12/26/2011

Moving into printer's row I decided what the best way to know the area...visit the local bars!
Kasey's is very laid back with prompt service and a great beer list. Its not too loud and its pretty chill. The food is not too bad either, its not an extensive menu, but its solid though.
Overall, great place and reasonably priced. Will definitely be back again! -

Very ordinary place - typical neighborhood bar, but I don't know why - I still love it. It's close to my house, and we go there for St. Patrick's every single year!!! It has some kind of atmosphere... Can't explain, but I would recommend this place to everyone.

A most impressive selection of beers. Too bad they're served by an incompetent, careless and inconsiderate server and manager/owner.
I saw their great beers and wanted to get a really nice one to share with the friends I was with, so I ordered the Lost Abbey: Gift of the Magi 2008. Look it up, it's reaaal nice!
Simple Version: The main large menu listed the 25 oz bottle for $21. When the server came up to pour it, she said "Oh by the way, it's $31". I showed her the menu that said it's $21, but she said it doesn't matter, cuz "that guy" pointing at who I believe is the owner, "says so".
I went to the owner to argue you my point. He got all impatient with me and threw a smaller Specials menu at me that had the beer listed at $31. I showed him the regular menu that said $21 and he said it doesn't matter.
I called it a bait-and-switch and he just walked away.
Really?! I have so many expletives smothered up and stored away for this guy and all I can do is write this lousy Yelp Review?
If you believe in justice, avoid this place. If all you care about is crappy beer and crappy service, feel free to roll the dice. This place smells like crap too, btw. Seriously, fix it up or shut it down. -
Review from Lana N.
Came with a huge group of friends and had a blast! Kasey's is a relatively small bar with limited seating, but it gets the job done. Although they didn't know a lot of the drinks we requested (AMF, Tokyo Tea, etc.... which are all really mainstream drinks, but maybe not in Chicago), they we're nice and willing to look it up and make it for us. The drinks we're made well too -- not too strong that it was hard to take down, but strong enough that it was a good night.
They also have a huge beer selection if you're looking for a nice calm(er) night! Got to try some dragon's milk, and it was good!
PLUS: the bathrooms were pretty clean, although small.Listed in: A GOOD BREW, The Windy City

Kasey's is what it is. A neighborhood bar with good beers at reasonable prices. I definitely wish there was some food, but that's not really a huge deal.
I'm young, and it isn't necessarily my atmosphere. I like things a bit more crazy, but this is a really nice spot if I'm just looking to get a good buzz or just to relax somewhere near me. But for what it is and what it is meant to be, it's a great bar -

What to do when you're at the Lit Fest and it starts POURING?
Pop into Kaseys! Pop in, and find it fulla some of My Favorite Yelpers and others. Like all the places on this strip, Kasey's is real, friendly and very Chicago.
I don't need to say more than that. Go. -

I've had such mixed results from Kasey's that I honestly do not know how to rank it. I've given it 2 stars because when it's good, it's very good; but it seems to have poor service too often so it doesn't get more.
The atmosphere and location are great. There are a number of places to get food from and bring in. They have a great selection of beer and when they have deals it is very reasonable. I just hate their service more often than not it seems so I can't justify a higher grade. I'm sure I'll be back, but every time it is further and further apart. -

Kasey's is a great bar!
There is a welcoming atmosphere here from both the regulars and the bar's staff.
I have brought friends here on several occasions... even Penguins and Packers fans and ALL have been treated with warmth and good humor. -

Decent beer selection for Chicago (this town sucks for beer selection) efficient servers...it bit loud for me...some background music or something that everyone needed to shout over, but generally pleasant.

I am strapped for time to write a review that lives up to how great this Printer's Row gem is. It is like an old neighborhood tap with a very strong beer list-- the owner is always on site, keeping things on the up and up without ever being that "lingering owner" (you know the kind that make you feel uncomfortable). It is is not exactly where you go to meet single ladies, but I sure as hell struck up a few great conversations about Hard Hawk Hawkey--
Five star positive comments:
Specials are very good, especially on the weekends, something unheard of in this city.
Service is always cool and friendly
Location is prime
And if I could give six stars, it would be because (for a mere two bucks) they will order up Hackney's, have it delivered, and plate it up for you. I mean, c'mon, that is just good business.
Jukebox is either stellar or enough to drive you home, something I solely put on you and I for not pumping five bucks in there first ; )
Anyway, Kasey's, change nothing. You are a Printer's Row ace. -

Nice beer selections. Friendly staff and nice drinks. We usually show up for a drink or two but end up spending the rest of our night here. It's comfortable and it's just a fun crowd to hang with.

$4 Unibroues on Wednesdays!?!! SOLD.
Seriously, La Fin du Monde is my "desert island" beer. Meaning, if I had to choose one beer to drink for the rest of my natural life, this would be it... and Kasey's has it on special!
Beyond Unibroue, Kasey's takes its beer seriously. The selection was quite impressive - both in bottles and on tap.
Kasey's has the feel of a local pub - dark-wood tables, brass fixtures, and friendly service. While there are a lot of televisions above the bar tuned to various sporting events, the overall feel is a little classier than your average sports bar. -
Review from Carol K.
Kasey's Tavern is the perfect neighborhood place to pop in and have a beer when you are in Printers Row.
The first time I was here- I found out that this place has the second oldest liquor license in the city of Chicago (now I am on a mission to find where the first one was issued . . . oh the work of going to soooo many bars!)
I love the original old bar that frames one side of the space with the old fashioned door handles, the carved bar and the long mirror. There are tables scattered throughout and a small patio out front. I know it's the trend, but I could live without all the flat screen TV's that line the wall above the bar. The good news? They are out of your line of sight so unless you want to look up and watch a game, you can "tune" them out!
Kasey's serves no food except for pizza, but if you want- you can order take out from Hackney's which is just down the street.
Plenty of beer specials keep the locals happy (like $3 drafts on Saturday nights). Check the listings that are on the bar.
The friendly bartender was quick to notice my return visit and welcomed me back. And street parking is pretty easy around this neighborhood- but if you can't find that- there is a pay lot just up the street.
I love bars like this that remind me of another era but keep doing what they do best; serving good drinks, to a fun crowd without any pretense that they are anything but the neighborhood bar! -
Review from Penny S.
A lovely place to pop in for a pint on a Saturday afternoon (and catch a game if you're into that sort of thing, thanks to the five flat screen tvs above the bar). The patio is small but serves its purpose, the beers on tap are varied and interesting - everything from Lite to a few different Belgiums to my beloved Bell's and some Lagunitas.
It gets packed on the weekends, from the few times I've walked by to check it out, so I will reserve my visits for afternoons. The barmaid was friendly and quick, and the prices were about average.Listed in: South Loop/Printer's Row, Go [Favorite Sports Team]!

I had pictured this place in my dreams, many times. I was guided to Kasey's by Hollie S. after describing my visions in a Yelp thread--
A darkened palace of booze that wears the must of age as a hard-won badge of honor. A place that welcomes sun-weary transients with open arms of frigid air conditioning. A place that presents it's beer list like a proud old man sharing his secret treasures with a grandson.
Kasey's Tavern is a true dank oasis in a jungle of scorching pavement. I sought refuge from the heat in this place recently during Lollapalooza- and I wish I could return every day. The quality of the beer selection is top-notch. The bartenders and patrons are very welcoming and family-like. The pizza is surprisingly delicious, given that it looks like Totino's.
Anyway, it's a very good thing that Kasey's is close to the Red Line. I will be back very soon...Listed in: There's A Tear In My Beer...

They have $3.00 drafts on Saturday!
YES $3.00 drafts!! And a mighty fine beer selection as well. That alone warrants 5 stars.
I was there for a late afternoon-to-late-evening-drinkfest; I really should have eaten dinner I think. Then I probably could have peppered this review with a lot more specificity.
I seem to recall many people wearing Cubs/ Sox gear, as they had played earlier that day. Very friendly crowd. They have a lot of flat screen TVs that show various sports. I think they had outdoor seating as well.
Unfortunately that's about all I can remember. But I will certainly be going back. -
Review from David R.
I'm starting to think that this is one of the best bars within a couple miles of the Loop but there's nothing particularly outstanding about it. It DOES have the second-oldest liquor license in the city, which was a neat piece of trivia to drop on my friends. We had about ten people in town for a wedding, and I was the default social coordinator. I chose Kasey's as the place to congregate before the rehearsal dinner on Friday afternoon/evening. We spent a total of three and a half very pleasant hours and everyone complimented me on the choice. I'd like to think that this was their biggest bar tab of the...day? Week? You're welcome, Kasey's!
Lagunitas drafts were on special, but I was happy with the Left Hand Sawtooth and the Rogue Juniper Pale Ale, especially the latter as it was a warm day, with the front doors open to the beautiful late-summer sunshine. Allagash White was another popular choice.
Even as happy hour began, there was plenty of room for our growing group. I picked the joint in part because I hoped that it would be mostly immune to the Loop after-work crowd, and I was right.
It's a straightforward, no-frills bar, but with good service, great specials (e.g. $3 pints on Saturdays) and a healthy beer selection. What more can you really ask for?1 Previous Review: Show all »

Allagash on tap for five bucks, hockey on tv, the least "downtown" bar I've come across. For those who know, this is like Jimmy's in Hyde Park, without the cheeseburgers. They also have some ridiculous special on Saturday nights, something like three bucks for anything on tap! You *will* spend no less than two hours here; I have tried and failed each time. There's something magical about this place.
-1 for lack of on-site kitchen
-1 for noise created on Saturday nights by those taking advantage of said special
+1 for being the only place I've ever heard women talking hockey in the bathroom stalls -

New York, NY
I used to live across the street from this bar on Printer's Row and it was a weekly hang out for me. I am a younger female in my early twenties and used to go there with a guy I was dating at the time or would take friends there after dinner or a night on the town if they were going to crash with me in the South Loop. The locals there are older and hysterical, the service is great and the drinks are stiff. It is also super affordable.
The beer selection on tap is good for a local bar. I am a huge vodka drinker as well and the nicer liquor is not watered down or substituted with cheaper shiz like some other cheap bars do...
I felt super comfortable in this place and the bar-tenders always knew who we were...we would also go in there so often that the locals would get up out of their seats to let me and friends sit down if it was busy. Super sweet crowd. The TV's are always playing sports so it was something to watch when relaxing having a beer. In addition, you can order food from the restaurant next door if you decide you want some grub.
I hope to find a bar like this in NYC. -
Review from Mike P.
Watched the Bears win the NFC Championship here. We had an in with the GM and were able to get a table. (I didn't know that bars this small had general managers, but thanks for the hook-up, nonetheless). Anyway, the place was jammed and the service for us was still top-notch. The bar isn't designed for TV viewing, but the crowd was great.
One star off for the outhouse they call a mens room. You have to go to a sink by the golden tee machine to wash your hands, the ladies has it's own sink. Also, the heat was up much too high in the place. -
Review from Audrey T.
Chicago, IL
I was here on Obamarama election night to kick things off, and it was a great choice, as there are no less than 7 giant flat panel TVs above the bar.
What's bad about that? Well we had to get a group of people together to CONVINCE the bartender to at least change 2 out of 4 of those 7 screens from SPORTS onto something that actually matters - uh, there's an election going on buddy... can we maybe view something about it from various station's biases? Thnx.
ANYWAY, $3 drafts, or so I hear, AND you can bring in your own grub from across the street of down the road or over the tunnel or through the woods. They're pretty laid back and easy going like that here.
However not being into sports, something gives me the impression that on a game night this place would be my worst nightmare. -

Hey, Tom (from Lodge?).....Congratulations! I was just talking with a friend & trying to determine where to go in the South loop for a drink and she mentioned Kasey's so thought I'd take a look at reviews on Yelp, and see that you're Owner/Manger....just awesome news! I have no doubt it's a really fun/cool place to stop for a beer or two if you're there, you're just the best! :)

Kasey's had a great beer selection, but the initial rudeness of the staff gives them only four stars. Once we hunkered down at the bar the staff got more friendly, but we did not feel welcome at first. If I happen to be in the neighborhood, I may stop in, but I woldn't go out of my way. Convenient to the red line-Harrison.

I love this place. Granted, it's stumbling distance away from my apt, but it's perfect for what it is.
There's no kitchen (but bonus that they can somehow whip up cheap frozen pizza or you can bring in from tons of local options). It's not a meat market. And it's not a big-box bar (::cough::anything in wrigleyville::cough::).
This is what makes Kasey's perfect.
The bartenders/waitstaff are friendly, the drinks are good, the place is comfy.
You can come here with friends and enjoy the $3 ANYTHING (anything? anything!) draft beer on Saturdays or come after we lose the olympics/you have a long day/you lost a shoe and pound down a few.
And now I need a beer.. -

You feel like you're in the 1930s when you walk into this place if you can imagine the televisions not being there. So the place does have character. And the bar itself is nice.
The problems I have with Kasey's are that it has no air conditioning and gets to be sweltering hot in the summer despite the virtual wind turbines they have that attempt to pump air through the joint and the bathroom straight out of Trainspotting. Deep Blue Day will spring into your mind when you make a pit stop here.
It's a decent place if you're a South Looper or in one of the nearby offices.Listed in: The Lowest of the Loo

I loved Kaseys. I say loved, because it is forever and ever tainted with the memory of an exboyfriend who introduced me to the place since he lived basically next door. I fear that I may never be able to go back.
But PLEASE don't let that stop you! Emotional hangups aside, Kaseys is a great little bar in a very hip little Printers Row with nice people, and an amazing selection of beer! Skip the pool table if you're even a halfway serious player- its your typical bar table and the room its in is so small its not really worth playing. And in the same vein of other reviewers, try to pee elsewhere.
Those misgivings aside, DO sit at the bar and strike up a conversation with the guy sitting next to you, Or simply have a beer while outside on the sidewalk during the warmer months. just stay FAR away from any good looking redheads named Jeff. Don't say I didn't warn ya. -

I went to Kasey's on my birthday, because my name is Kasey and I had always wanted to go. Perhaps my expectations were too high. I ordered a bloody mary that was very boring, but not the worst I have ever had- I also had a beer that was fine. My issue with Kasey's was not the drinks, it was the nasty, nasty bartender who must have been having the worst day of her life because she was sort of a monster to everyone at the bar. I am so sad about this experience and that my time at Kasey's was by far the worst part of my birthday and I will never be returning to my bar again. Bummertown.

Went here in April 2008 for the first time. They have a good selection of beers, including Alpha King on tap. They also have alot of flat screen HD televisions all around the joint, so if you wanna watch some games this is a good place to do it.
My negatives would be that this place is in need of a cleaning. There is dust and dirt all along the ceiling and wires overhead that must have been there for 2 years. I kept thinking it would fall into my beer if a breeze kicked up. Kaseys also seems to be in an identity crisis, it doesn't know if it wants to be a dump with great beer, or a nice place with great beer.
I would recommend it for the beer selection alone, but don't wear your Sunday best in there. -
Review from Laura D.
Just what I was looking for on Sunday night... a chill bar in the Loop. A couple friends and I stopped in for a couple beers after Lollapalooza (and to escape the street riots following the NIN concert... which was awesome btw)... and of course this turned into an all-out drinkapalooza ending in us trying to bribe the hotel security to let us into the pool. FYI- The Holiday Inn does not accept Amex bribes for late-night swims. But anyway, back to Kasey's...
Awesome beer selection! I was especially happy when I saw they had Lagunitas Hairy Eyeball, one of my favs. Also had a delicious Delirium Tremens, Duval, and some other French country beer or some sort that I had no idea what it was when I ordered but it sure was tasty. That and a lot of these beers were only $4... not on special, that's the normal price. Which is exceptionally good given that some places charge $5 for beer-flavored water they call Coors Light.
Our bartender was helpful and friendly. While he had no clue how to make several shots we asked for (mind eraser, surfer on acid), he was more than willing to learn, and dumped a generous amount of kahlua and vodka into our mind erasers... making them live up to their name.
The plasma tvs and jukebox were a nice diversion, and the place was sparse but inviting. The bartender told us it is the second oldest bar in chicago or something. It was nicely crowded when we arrived around 10pm, but had completely cleared out by closing time at 2 (apparently we were the only alcoholics still out).
Chill place with a respectable crowd on a Sunday night, great beer selection, and friendly bartenders... why do you think we stayed so long? -
Review from Cassie D.
First things first: in the summer, if you can snag one of their outdoor tables, definitely do it!!
Onto the rest of the review... Kasey's is great... for a bar in Printer's Row. I'm not sure I would like it as much as compared to bars in more populated areas but for this area, it's pretty great. They actually have beer specials once in a while, they have a good selection, and the bartenders are friendly. Also, it's not so loud that you can't hear yourself speak.
Good enough for me!
No food, but I usually go there after eating elsewhere so it's not a dealbreaker.Listed in: Beer Me

This is a pretty cool place. I was here to watch the Kentucky Derby a few days ago, and really enjoyed myself.
I was really surprised that the prices are pretty low. Considering that this is the beginning of Yuppieville, I'd expect higher prices, but they keep it pretty fair.
They have an extended menu of bottled beers including a couple of my favs:
Samuel Smiths Oatmeal Stout and Youngs Double Chocolate Stout.
The only problem that I had was that the bartender was really snotty and rude. She also couldn't pour a proper Guiness mix (I had Guiness and Cider, and she screwed up all 4 of them, unapologetically). It was only her 5th day bartending there, but that doesn't make a difference in wether or not you know how to pour a drink, and EFINITELY didn't give her a right to have such a crappy 'tude.
I'd go back here, but would try and steer clear of the particular bartender I had before.
