I gotta thank the Yelpers for veering me towards these guys, they really came through for me. My muffler had a hole in it and they were straight shooters, inexpensive, and quick.
5 stars easy. Let the good guys reap the rewards.
These guys are great.
The engine light had been on in my '97 Maxima for about 2 weeks. I have an OBD-II scanner and knew it was the Vehicle Speed Sensor. Googling the issue I had resolved to pay between $300 and $350 to get it taken care of. Oh, and everything works fine (speedo, tach, odometer, etc), EXCEPT my cruise control, which is critical for me, especially with a bunch of long trips coming up. Anyway, I go there and he hooks it up to a machine and drives it around a bit and tells me the actual sensor is fine, but there is electrical issues. I go to Taco Miendo next door (very good, and cheap). I walk back an hour or so later and the entire instrument cluster is dismantled and they are soldering a wire somewhere.
Well, they finally put it all back together and now everything works fine, and the light is not on anymore.
These guys are good at what they do, honest and they charge a fair price. And I saw beaters in the bay older and worse off than mine as well as newer BMWs and Infinitis.
These guys absolutely rock! Eddie quoted me a fair price and the time to get my muffler installed for my Chevy Blazer yesterday. Drove on down and they did the job in less time than quoted and with zero up selling or other shenanigans. Love it when an establishment actually promises and delivers without trying to hustle you. So rare. Keep up the good work guys! We will be back.
Great service. I took my '79 T-bird in for a new battery and a smog test. Kartek took the car to the test only smog station next door for no extra charge, a huge convenience. Kartek kept it simple and honest. They did a timing check before the smog test. With they replaced the battery, they crimped on a new terminal for free, never even trying to sell me a new cable. The only work they did beyond my initial request was an oil and oil filter change, plus a new PCV valve. Labor charge for all of this: ZERO! The entire bill was just over $200, including the smog test and certificate.
They had a nice range of cars in the shop, from a 1920's Lincoln and a 60's Chevy to late model BMW's. It's obviously a place trusted by car enthusiasts. Good guys.
Excellent service and affordable, too. Took my 97 Corolla in to get it checked for the engine just cutting out in the middle of driving a couple times. They diagnosed it and found I needed a new distributer - gave me a quote, they did the work, and I was off. Terrific auto shop - glad I found them.
I've been taking my car in for service for the past two years. They've fixed my brakes, oil change, tune-up, and just recently replaced my regulator (my window did not roll up/down) all for a really good price. I must say, not only are the people nice and helpful, they are also experienced and know what they're talking about. On top of that, I needed to have my windshield replace (not something they do there at the shop), and Eddie the owner, had someone come to his shop to replace it for me, isn't that great? I didn't have to take my car to another location, or pay two bills, he billed it all on one invoice. Kartek is walking distance from my job... I'm so happy I found this place. My Dad was an auto mechanic before he passed away two years ago, it was something he enjoyed doing, he owned his shop as well, and Eddie is as helpful and honest as my Dad was to his customers.
If you need a good mechanic with reasonable prices, I guarantee you'll get that here.
Agreed - these guys are great. I had a terrible muffler leak, they were able to check it out, fix it, and have me on my way for under $100 in less than an hour. Very friendly and helpful as well - a great shop.
Two words: GO HERE.
The guy who came before me was told that there was a big problem with his car. He asked if he should leave it there overnight and call a friend or cab or if they could give him a lift. They said yes, you should keep your car here, where do you live? He said Marina Del Rey. THEY TOOK HIM HOME. FROM HERE. My first impression was great.
Second: I needed a diagnostic test done because I couldn't figure out why my Check Engine light kept coming on. Juan was assigned to help me and he was very nice, asked about my experience driving the car, asked where I lived, where I work, etc. He was puzzled by what the computer said (it said there was something going on with the transmission) and advised me to take it to a Toyota dealership. He said his friend with the exact same car had the same problem and when he looked at it he told her to take it to a dealership. She did that, and he said they changed the computer in her car and the Check Engine light never came on again. He told his boss, Eddy, what the issue was with my car in Spanish and Eddy nodded and told me that it's a dealership thing and that they didn't want to null my warranty on the car by working on it. Juan checked and re-checked and re-re-re-re-checked my transmission fluid and confirmed it wasn't the trans fluid.
In the end, they didn't let me pay for the diagnostic test. I tried to, but Eddy just said, "next time."
I took it to Santa Monica Toyota this morning..and guess what? There is a computer update that I need, and that is covered by Toyota.
Again, I must repeat, GO HERE.
I came in here to get my catalytic converter put in, and after a long and horrible ordeal in which the Toyota dealership charged me an arm and a leg for a part which they REFUSED TO PUT IN, the guys at Kartek set me straight. They were open until 6pm that day, I think, and squeezed me in right at 5:30, which was a huge relief after a day's escapades to four other car mechanics.
Only four stars because I think they may have messed up the exhaust pipes a bit from banging them when installing the cat, which caused a pretty sad sounding rattle. I went back and they fixed it for free, so good karma all around! :)
