Karoon International Food Market is a great, family run grocery store that specializes in Persian goods but also carries some selections from around the globe. The couple that own it are so nice, extremely helpful and knowledgable. The woman, Maria, told me a bit about her country and that their little market is named for a river that is near her hometown. I liked the bright clean atmosphere and quality of items they offer. Apparently, she only carries items that she uses or would use in her home as well. That's reassuring!
Their lil market offers breads, nuts, freezer items, international candies, misc staples such as rice and couscous, a small produce section, pickles, olives, oils, etc. You get the point, right?
I was especially excited about the candy selection, Iranian ice cream and borecka's (cheese puffs). This time, I tried the baklava from their eatery next door, Karoon Persian Cuisine, so next time, I'll have to try the ice cream from their freezer section! :)
It's on the NE corner of S. Wolfe and El Camino in Sunnyvale.
I'll definitely be back. See ya there!

So I'm standing in my kitchen making some apple turnovers, when it becomes vastly apparent that the apple chunks are diminishing far more slowly than the puff pastry is. Never fear! Karoon Market is just around the corner.
This is an interesting little store with a variety of Middle Eastern, Greek, Turkish, Indian, well, really all sorts of "international" foods, per the name. I've gotten tahini and orange flower water and halvah and sesame candy here, and there's a lot more stuff I've gotta try sometime.
Do you need a big can of Bulgarian feta? Because they have it.
Oh, and they have puff pastry in sheets as well as precut into 5x5-inch squares. I am saved from having to go back to the big store!
Check 'em out sometime after dinner at Taj India! It's in the same strip mall.
