This is a good, basic nail place.  It's clean, the ladies are friendly, and the pricing is right.
Whenever I'm on the Westside and in need of a mani/pedi, I make it a point to stop in here.
Only tip is to get your timing right... Come in early if it's a weekend, and don't even think about just dropping in anytime after 4pm on a Thursday or Friday unless you have an appt.

I was sure spoiled when I lived in San Diego. I had a cute little nail place right across the street from my apartment, and I was so spoiled.

So before I went to Simona for the first time, I started doing research on Yelp for a nail place. I read about Karen's Nails and thought I might check it out.  Then when I went to Simona's she told me that Karen's was recommended people to her, and she heard nothing but good things about it, and told me to go check it out.

I love it, Karen is a doll, the place is clean, always busy, and they will always see you. Not a long wait at all. MY favorite is Angie. She has to be the best pedicure person ever.

So now I make a day out of my trips to Beverly Hills, and I do my waxing and nail trips. They are inexpensive too, so it's worth it.

Cleaning, friendly, and they are just all really nice people. I am hooked!

Typical little hole-in-the-wall nail place.

Inexpensive...
They have the massaging chairs if you so choose to partake in a "spa style" manicure or pedicure...
No one really speaks English other than Karen herself...well...i shouldn't say that...they just choose NOT to speak English lol...
Easy to park right in front on Pico Blvd...
Don't need an appointment and the wait is usually short if at all...
Always get a good paint job!

I've gone maddeningly M.I.A. from Yelp mostly out of pure exhaustion of reviewer-dom and talk threads and gossipy feuds that I found not to be an integral part of the site.  But they have become an integral part of the site, which is a plus for those glued to the computer in a National Enquirer sorta way.

That said... I couldn't NOT review the bad, BAD polish job I received on my nails at Karen's Nails.  What can I say... it's Friday, so what's a girl to do when her tummy's not hungry and she's on lunch break?  Sit in the car beside a park and nap?  I think not.  Although I'd probably be in a much more pleasant mood if I did.  Anyhoot, I forget who I had, but she was nasty (I tried to crack jokes, smile, giggle, nothing worked) and clumsy.  If I opted for a red, summery polish instead of the nude, I'd most certainly be a livid gal at this moment.  Not only did she file my nails down to the fingertips, but she smeared the top coat on as if my nails had no borders.  And then...?!  No acetone-dipped Qtip to clean up the polish on my finger skin!  And when I asked (ever-so sweetly since my fingers were in her hands) for a cleanup.... she just stared at me, blankly.  I paid, left a friggin' tip ('cause hey, I don't know what she's been through in her life, right?), and should've walked out with their copy of InStyle.  But didn't.

Ladies who've reviewed this place before and given it four (even five!) stars... my goodness!  Yes, okay, it's clean.  I would hope it'd be clean.  But clean alone don't cut it when you're slapping down a ten for a poorly done 10 minute job.

This place is pretty okay. I walked in at 6:45 (they close at 7:30 on weekdays) and a woman greeted me in a down-the-middle manner (not incredibly nice, but she wasn't irked or rude). I told her I wanted a pedicure and she told me to choose a color. As I was looking at the nail polish colors (I couldn't find any from OPI which was a bummer) I overheard a conversation between a pedicurist and a client and it sounded like a really good conversation -- the pedicurist was obviously listening to her client and it was obvious that she knew something about her (that the client was the oldest, how long she knew her husband). My pedicurist, Helen, was polite, didn't strike up much conversation but she did smile whenever she looked at me. Usually when I go into nail salons they ask me if I'm Vietnamese. That didn't happen this time though, so maybe they assumed I was Vietnamese and decided to play it safe by not talking too much in Vietnamese? I can understand some Viet, and at least when I was there, they didn't talk about anyone; they used a mixture of English and Viet to talk to each other, and there were 3-4 other women in there. Oh, also, while I was soaking my feet, the woman next to me accidentally ruined one of her freshly painted toenails and my girl was very polite and took her time redoing her nail. It was nice to see that she took care and paid the same amount of attention on that one toe as if it was her first one rather than her 11th. She apologized when she came back to me. I can't attest to any cleanliness as I didn't see any plastic wrappers or cleaning being done while I was there. The nail job was okay. $12! I would probably pay a bit more to get a better job at a place with more colors though if I had time; if I was in a rush I might come back here. The lack of visible sanitation makes me weary though.

Great waxing! I don't know how inexpensive it is because I don't have anything to compare it to, but I'd say it's pretty reasonable. This place has  spa chairs and the wait is short. The polish dries fast, it's always clean, and a great nail job every time!
