I'm glad to see this truck sticking around the South Lake Union for awhile.

I've had the phad thai with tofu and the red curry sampler (comes with red curry, phad thai and little spring rolls).  It's all very good.

Today my phad thai was *really* on the ketchupy side and not spicy at all.  That's probably my fault for forgetting to ask them for some spice.  They didn't ask me if I wanted it spicy or not.

In Seattle, there is a Thai restaurant on every corner.  What does the Kaosamai truck offer over the random Thai restaurant you can probably see out of the corner of your eye as you are waiting to order?  It's U-District cheap without requiring a hike to the U District.  That's about it.  The menu is more or less the same as at every other purveyor of Thai food in Seattle, and the cashew chicken I had was bland and not spicy.

Bangkok's street food scene is legendary, but this is just standard Seattle Thai food cooked in a truck rather than a kitchen.  The Kaosamai truck is worth visiting if you are in a Thai food desert and suffering from fish sauce withdrawal symptoms, but understand that you're getting methadone, not heroin.

DOOD!  Thai food on wheelz!

Aw yeah, I saw this trailer parked at the Shell station and my mouth started watering thinking it was a taco truck.  BOO!  Not to worry, disappointment was short-lived when I got my curry lunch combo with a lot of tasty food for not a lot of green.  The lunch combo is definitely a good deal.  If you want something to drink other than their limited selection, 7-11 and Shell are like 10 steps away.

It's hard to impress people in Seattle with thai food.  We have so many options we get jaded, and form personal relationships with those we choose to call "our favorites" to the exclusion of other equally good thai restaurants.  So yeah, I wasn't blown over by what I got, but c'mon, it's being served out of a trailer on a gas station parking lot a block from my freakin house.  Unless there's a mouse in my food or the guy behind the counter gives me the finger, no way I can give them less than 3 stars!

3-1/2 Stars*

This is a great spot for lunch if you live/work/hang out on the north side of Queen Anne.  It's the little sister establishment of Kaosamai Thai in Fremont.

With just 14 menu items, this little Thai truck offers a limited selection compared to the full restaurant.  However, you won't be disappointed.  All your favorites are represented... Spring Rolls, Rama Garden, Phad Thai, Fried Rice, Phad Kee Mao, Phad See Iew, Red Curry & more.  Yes, you can get Thai Iced Tea or Coffee.

The veggies are always tender-crisp (unless you leave your food in the container too long) and the meats tender.  If you brought someone this food without saying where it came from, they would NEVER guess it came from a mobile kitchen.  It's just that good.

*So why only 3-1/2 stars?

Well... the service can be iffy.  Once we called ahead to order food and had our order taken.  When we got to the place (at the Texico Station on Nickerson), the truck was nowhere to be found.  So we ran some errands and came back.  No truck.  We waited 20 more minutes.  Still no truck.  In fact we don't know if it ever showed up.  I swore I'd never go back... but the food is just too yummy to resist.  So within a month I was back begging for more.

From time to time we also get the wrong order or wrong meat.  Make sure you check before you go unless you're a flexible eater.

These two things aside, Kaosamai Thai Mobile Kitchen hooks up the best lunches.  Just be ready to gamble with the service.

Fast & delicious! My favorite dish is "Drunken Noodles (Pad Kee Mao)," which is stir-fry wide rice noodles with your choice of meat/tofu, onions, bamboo shoots, green beans, mashrooms, carrots, bell peppers, and fresh basil. It's seasoned with rich flavors of Thai curry paste, oyster sauce, fish sauce, etc.

Solid, quick Thai food that supports my "Work from Queen Anne" Wednesdays. It helps that the truck is located at the bottom of the hill, that I can call and pre-order before I leave the house (er office) and by the time I get there the food is ready to go. I like the Phad Kee Mao when I'm feeling noodley, otherwise the Curry Combo (either of them) with rice, pad thai and three little spring rolls are perfect. Plus you get so much food you'll really be getting lunch and dinner.
