4 reviews for Kansas City Zoo
I love zoos. I try to go to the zoo in every city I visit.
I do like the KC Zoo...but I'm with Robert B. as far as not diggin' the long-ass walk into the zoo, out of the zoo and then trekking all over the inside of the zoo.
Cool setup, though. I love the different 'continents' you can visit. Africa's the best! There's a great sea lion show and a gorgeous new carousel. It's a great way to spend the day, with or without kids.

I don't know how you can even call this shit a zoo. it's more like a big botanic garden, minus the botanic.
The first thing that struck me was that there is a LOT of open space here. Which might not necessarily be a bad thing, but it's used inefficiently as fuck. There's ample room for more animal exhibits, but it seems like most of the time you're walking around looking at...nothing. If they're not going to have more animals, why not consolidate some of this space so you don't have to walk so ridiculously far between exhibits? As for those, considering how big the park is, it seems like most of the animals have some smallass quarters.
Honestly i wasn't impressed with the diversity of the animals either. If you've ever been to the san diego zoo, bronx zoo, or even the national zoo in dc, there's a strong chance you'll be disappointed too.
I was only here because my coworkers were looking to kill some time before our late flight out of kc, but in retrospect i'd have rather gone to the riverboat casino and lost money. I can't imagine trying to spend a whole day here let alone with the agony of dragging small kids along. What's more amazing is that this shit has somehow been around for what, like 65 years now? **smh*** Once again, kc has proven that there are some simple motherfuckers out there.
EPIC FAIL.

The Kansas City Zoo is great, and all of the new additions to the Africa area are just wonderful. When you want some exercise, the zoo is a fun place to go and take the kids to make the rounds on their walking path. They have made a lot of improvements to make this more hands-on, and the petting zoo is cool with the llamas and the goats. The seal show is always fun, and I have fond childhood memories of different old buildings there which are still in the process of being re-vamped.
The only complaint is the price to get in - I know it's only about $10 for adults and they need money but it would be nice if it was free and you could walk through any day that you wanted. That's probably not a realistic wish though, and I still enjoy going when I can.

Here's the deal. I haven't been to the KC zoo since moving here 5 yrs ago. So all I can say is my review is based on previous experiences...
They used to have a Imax theater but shut it down. This made me sad as I had seen a couple movies here. So we lose some points there.
They finally remodeled the entrance so it no longer is a zigzag getting in and out. Who wants to walk more at the end of a day? Speaking of walking, you WILL walk a lot in this zoo. the African Section is very large and a long ways away from anything. It seems like a long walk just to get from one animal to the next. My suggestion is to break down and take the tram $ to the bottom, then walk it back up. Your feet will thank you.
Another add on this yr is the otter exhibit. They put this near the front of the zoo to help get things going a bit. It's not a bad zoo by any means, it's just large and very spread out. Children will get tired of walking.
