4 reviews for Kangaroo Conservation Center
The KCC is the largest concentration of kangaroos outside of Australia, and it's just about an hour north of Atlanta. Who knew?!
In addition to acres and acres of fields with a variety of different species of kangaroo, they also have Australian birds and other creatures.
The tour starts at a small walk-in exhibit where you can see sugarflyers, lizards and the world's largest species of pigeon. This guy ain't no rat with wings, either. It's gorgeous and exotic -- periwinkle blue with red eyes and a web-like comb on top of its head. I had no idea such a creature existed -- it looks more like a creation of Jim Henson's Creature Shop's imagination than something that could really exist in the wild. And you can stand 6 inches from it at the KCC.
The tour through the fields is interesting, and the show at the end is amazing. Marsupials are such bizarre and fascinating creatures. So, if you enjoy a nerdy good time like I do, you have to go to the KCC. Kids will especially love it, but they don't allow young children. I think they have to be at least 8. Check their Web site.

"Dude, I totally just got to stick my hand in a kangaroo pouch."
An hour's drive north of Atlanta is so very well worth seeing a huge quantity of kangaroos.
Home to 300 kangaroos and some slightly less exciting species like parakeets, going to the Kangaroo Conservation Center is hitting the weekend fun jackpot.
Ride in an open air tram through the center, as the Roo Guide points out different species and kangaroo fun facts. There's also a boomerang demonstration and a visit to the educational center where you get to see the roos up close.
The tour runs $27.50 for adults and lasts for three hours, and they take advance reservations. The center is also near the North Georgia Premium Outlets, which makes a great day trip of shopping and kangaroo encounters.
Marsupial par-tay!

I have been to Brisbane, Australia when I was 12. It was supposed to be the biggest zoo in the country and I was deeply impressed by it. I saw lots of Kangaroo running around the field and Koalas sleeping on the trees. When Yuna P. said "Hey Hyeon~ let's go to see Kangaroos~!" I didn't know if I would enjoy seeing them as much as she would. I had a feeling that they were going to show some Kangaroos and not do anything special. That's how it usually is right? Even when I was in Australia, they gave me a notion that "Hey, you've never seen Kangaroos right? You'd be so amazed by looking at them, so I wouldn't necessarily do anything."
Let me directly get to the point. This place isn't like that at all. I've never seen Kangaroos that closely, and I've never got to throw a boomerang!! Read Yuna and Deanna's review for more details.
I could tell that people who work there truly loved Kangaroo and rather than being arrogant of having Kangaroo, they tried their best to give us some understanding about Kangaroos!
I would've regretted so much if I didn't go here.

Did you know Adidas uses kangaroo skin in some of their products? Well, I didn't either, until I went to Kangaroo Conservation Center (KCC).
Located in Dawsonville, KCC offers close-encounter with Kangaroos. First part of the tour, a helpful guide teaches you how to throw a boomerang. Afterward, your group will ride the Kanga Ranger through their fields and observe Kangaroos jumping around in their natural habitat. Then when you think it's all over, they give you a Wild Australia Show, where you are only one feet away from live kangaroos. After the show, stick around! My sister and Hyeon actually got to touch some of them! After seeing all these "cute" kangaroos jumping around, all I have to say is: "Ban Adidas!"
Overall, this tour is exciting and fun for the kids, but very helpful and knowledgeable tour for the adults. It's worth every penny of the admission ticket. They just stopped their tours for the rest of 2007. However, when they reopen in 2008, check this place out! Take your friends, your family, your kids, or whoever! This tour will enrich your eyes and your mind.
