Been servicing my 02 honda civic there for a year and a half now. For the first 3 years or so, I took the car to palo alto anderson honda and menlo honda for oil changes depending on what coupon I had. They'd do the oil change just fine, but the wait was always really long. Also they charge extra for tire rotation.
I started looking for an independent after moving to mountain view. Saw positive reviews on Yahoo Local for Kaloci & Sons, so decided to give them a try. It's not a big shop, there is no waiting room. I typically drop off the car when they open in the morning, go walk around downtown sunnyvale (which is only a few blocks away) while they do the service, then pick up the car and go to work. You could also drop off the car in the morning and pick it up after work.
Their service is thorough. The oil change costs about the same as the dealers, but tire rotation is free, plus I feel I trust them more than the dealer. Couple of things: they take the car out for a road test even though it's just an oil change. Battery load test is included. They don't try to upsell you on services or inspections that you don't need.
Kaloci services Hondas and Acuras. It's a great shop. Bill is very thorough and generally fantastic. They all know their stuff and they are willing to take time to explain things to you. All their prices for the mileage based services are below anything you'd get with the dealers, even with the dealer's internet coupons. But I trust him more than the dealers. Check out cartalk's website for more reviews on Kaloci. One time he kept the car up on the jack to show me the wear in some of the rubber components. Another time when my after market alarm/ignition killer was going on the fritz, he spent a long time tracking down where the alarm system was installed and disabling it. He ended up charging me for half the time cause he felt bad about charging me full price to find an alarm. (The alarm was installed at a place where there were ferraris and porshes, which is why it was hard to find; they did a great job hiding it. Otherwise I'm sure he would have found it way quicker). Bill also spent 15 minutes on the phone with me once trying to diagnose why my car was having a tough time starting. A great shop run by great folks.
I'll keep taking my Honda to them.
