Review from Amy S.
Los Angeles, CA
This is a second review. I am giving the place another star for actually caring about their customers. I'll explain.
First time, I had a so-so experience. The ambiance was great, the coffee was ok and the service was poor. I wanted to like this place. It was a dissapointing first experience. However, the owner personally contacted me after my review and took the correct steps to make sure his bussiness will be improved. For this I am impressed and appreciate that someone actually cares about their customers. Sometimes the owners have no idea that the service that their employees are giving is poor. This is what he said:
" I am sorry that your experience at Kahve was less than memorable. I wanted personally apologize for the behavior of the employee that was working behind the counter.
In no way her behavior it is acceptable nor tolerable. Here at Kahve, we do really want our customers to feel welcome,be at ease, disconnect themselves from outside world and enjoy themselves without feeling being harassed or treated rudely.
The necessary steps will be taking to correct the quality of the drinks, and the consistency of a fine cup of java each time.... I appreciate you taking your time to write your experience.
It gives owners like me who take pride in what they are doing, to have a chance to know what is going on behind their back when they are not around so, something can be done to not allow this kind of experiences happen again."
Because of this letter, this place deserves a second chance. I look forward to going back and seeing how things have come along.1 Previous Review: Show all »

BOO NO LONGER A COFFEE HOUSE!
So I was going to check this place out and I brought a piece of Russian Literature in hand and my iPod in my back pocket and was all ready to lounge around on the patio and drink a latte. When I arrived a smelly guy with an unkept beard asked me what I wanted (dick). Then he told me it wasn't a coffee shop anymore. I suggested he take the word 'Cafe' off his sign then. As I was leaving I glanced at the clothing and it looked dull.
I hope this place goes under fast so someone else can buy it and turn it into a coffee house (the patio looks great, and it is a waste of space as it is now). -

I've been here a few times over the past two summers, and really have some dirty secrets on this place.
The things that I witness here, as far as cleanliness goes, should really yank their A rating.
I always see bugs in the pastry cases, and I saw a girl drop tongs, pick them back up and then use them. Just image everything else.
The coffee is always old, and cold, and sometimes in the morning, the wait would be FOREVER. -

This is a great coffee/oasis/boutique?
The owner is so wonderful and helpful! She even offered to open the boutique for me when it was closed!! I took her up on it and found so many great treasures! The boutique is like a thrift shop of sorts with wondefully nestalgic finds!
The coffee is outstanding. Fresh roasted depth infused beans are readily apparent! They have many irresistible tasty treats as well. The thing that stands out on this establishment is the unique atmosphere.
There are wonderful couches to lounge on and reflect over a great cup o' Joe! There is no wi-fi internet cafe here. That's what I truly love and appreciate about this establishment. No hustle and bustle just back to basics.
Go here to reflect on life and enjoy company over a truly eclectic cup of coffee (or tea) and if so inclined browse through the adjoining boutique! -

If you're coming here just to avoid Starbucks, you're trying to make a statement and you're trying too hard. You're not really that unique.
The barista at the counter was very nice and very helpful (and patient). The lids are on the other side of the counter and I'm sure she gets asked a million times where the lids are.
Kahve Coffee House's coffee isn't that good. Actually, it wasn't good at all. I got the double French roast but it tasted really watered down. I came again and this time it was good. -

San Francisco, take note.
We need a Kahve. Yes, most people would say the last thing the city needs is another coffee place, but Kahve is a great mash-up.
Coffee house + outdoor garden lounge w/ wi-fi + womens' boutique store.
um..... is this not the most perfect mix of your favorite things?!!!
Every morning I was in SD, I went here every morning, post-run, for some DELICIOUS granola + yogurt & some mighty fine coffee. The Kahve boutique has unique clothes that seemed to have a Mediterranean style that's especially rare in beachy San Diego. I grabbed some coffee, bought a cute wool hat (what was it doing in so cal, anyway?), and vegged out on the garden chaise lounge chairs.
Best place for a mini coffee-shopping-wifi-relaxing break from the beach! -

Last summer my best friend lived on the beach... a little bit of a walk on the morning after and chatting about unrequited loves and discoveries about...
this cafe is everything that a cafe should be. It was laid back and cozy... just off the beaten path enough not to garner as many tourists as it should if they only knew what was there...
There was wifi to hop onto. The chai was organic and delicious. They had flavors like pumpkin and muffins, granola (if I hadn't showered on the beach I might have to check myself to make sure I hadn't turned hippie), and cupcakes to rival the ones in many specialized shops.
We were able to chat and relax without the bother of anyone or anything. At times I found myself dozing off, bathed in patches of sunlit sparkles that somehow managed to get through the canopy above.
I know that if I was still there, this would be the place I'd head to if I wanted a place to
write or reflect
or after a run along the beach, a bike ride, surfing, or a swim.
This is the place where I'd
secretly bring a boy I'm seeing for some breakfast after that... "night in"
or a gal pal that wants to discuss something in private.
It's a place to time out and just...
be. Escapism may not be healthy all the time.. but sometimes.
Some
times...
it's not a bad thing at all.Listed in: Summer Lovin', Diners Diners Diners!

Service is really hit or miss here.
Great little outdoor lounge-y feel.
The coffee isn't particularly impressive, but if you are walking around Mission Beach, this place is worth a try. -

This review is strictly for the coffee cart, I've never really had time to browse the boutique but it looks adorable.
The coffee and teas are delicious and the patio is so comfortable, a great place to have a drink with someone you like, or at least someone you can tolerate.Listed in: Go green, or else

I have to agree with all the other reviews... This coffee shop is a diamond in the rough... the girl that works there is absolutely delightful, helpful, and very interesting to chat with.
The organic coffee is my favorite and the Acai' bowls are the perfect cool down treat and natural energy boost on those hot beach days.
The absolute BEST part of this shop is the ambiance. The lay down couches, hanging garden, mini swanky lounge, and boutique feel make this a 5 star destination for sure. Make sure to take off your shoes if you intent to crawl all over the pillows or take a nap though! They didn't tell me to, but it's the right thing to do.
Show your love, take your loved one, or just have a chat with a future love... can't wait to come back to San Diego for my third time this year to hang at Kahve! -

San Diego, CA
I agree with everyone else; the drinks are wonderful and the ambiance is great. Sitting out on the couches is one of the best coffeehouse experience around. However, I have one big qualm with this place. There are no electrical outlets. It is a coffeehouse, and I'll be damned if they expect people not to be using their laptops. It loses two stars for that reason.
If you don't mind that little problem, then this is a five-star place. -

A coffeeshop, cute lounge area, boutique & beach rental unit in one quaint property = genius concept. The lady owner of Kahve, I think you are my new HERO! You put everything that anyone could ever ask for when venturing to San Diego all in one spot! Close proximity to the beach, a fun relaxing retreat with ultra hip clothes & accessories....I mean it's a winning combo! Prices for rental units aren't as stiff as the ones on the beach strand (we've checked) and the calm atmosphere that Kahve provides gives you the sense of some tropical destination.
Items at the boutique are actually priced similar to retail stores which is perfect for my lack of a cool clothing budget. Kahve is a chill café & boutique that I know that I'll be visiting during trips to SD. -

I love this hidden little place. We always walk there while our clothes are in the washer. Every Saturday, we go here and as soon as we go to order one of us changes our minds on what we want. Never have I had a glare or snide comment about it taking us forever to order. Just to clear the record it usually isn't me.
The staff is always friendly and the boutique in front is awesome!!!! Such adorable clothes. -

San Diego, CA
This place deserves 5 stars for the ambiance - a great place to sit and chat with friends in a relaxed outdoor patio setting with booths made of comfy cushions and pillows, also some standard seating. The eclectic decor and the relaxing music along with an extensive menu made me feel like all my wants and needs were about to be met. The location is at the intersection of Mission Blvd. and Santa Clara, perfect for grabbing a drink and a snack while spending the day at the beach.
I ordered a white mocha and an acai bowl. The drink was delicious and the acai bowl left a little to be desired. For $6.50, their acai bowl seemingly attempts to compete with other restaurants selling the same product, yet their bowl is simply acai with granola and a few banana slices; no berries, no peaches, no nothing.
The value of the acai bowl and the fact that the poor unfriendly gal working behind the counter looked and sounded like she wanted to slit her own wrists is simply why I haven't given this place all 5 stars. -

We are all full of hidden talents, and it's always exciting to discover new ones. On the pretty and romantic walk along Mission Beach to this coffeeshop, my gift of accurately guessing the prices of houses for sale emerged as if from the sand. Seriously, I guessed within $200K for every single house for sale we passed... and there were many. They ranged between $1.5-3.2 million, and I estimated at least 1 or 2 within 5 grand. Too bad there is no industry for this gift... and too bad I'll likely be old and gray before I could ever afford one of those houses, b/c they sure were gorgeous.
So yeah, as for Kahve... it was adorable. Totally intimate and cute patio setting, straightforward menu, nice girl behind the counter. They don't get a fifth star b/c I only had a cup of tea so I can't say how good any skill-necessary menu items are, there was no agave for my tea (only honey), and I didn't see any smoothie options without dairy or soy. -

the anti-starbucks
this is the former location of the #2 in the javanican "chain". no word on whether all the Sluka has been removed (tenacious shit), but it's a cool space, holed up in a rare 20s victorian painted alluring purple. the name is presumably a "play" on the word coffee, but perhaps I'm missing something clever there.
anyway, they have fine coffee and delicious acai/granola bowls for pretty cheap. uncrowded (empty when i was there) and unpretentious. probably the place of choice in north mission for a coffee when you don't have time for the Mission, which, as anyone with any sense can tell you, is far-and-away the #1 breakfast place in SD, end of story.
Well, the Cantina is damn good too, but that's pretty much the same company, despite the separate corp. structure or whatevs. -

I LOVE the set up here. It's such a laid back feel with the whole lounge thing going on. The teas here are really good. As far as food, I've had a couple of sandwiches which were superb, and some bagels, but that is not hard to perfect. The boutique is really cute. They have some adorable clothes, but the accessories are where it's at. They have a lot of cute necklaces, bracelets, rings and handbags.

Sadly this place has closed down permanently. I used to love buying one of their delicious Chais, eating one of their super tasty salads and then shopping in their cool little boutique. Bummer! (the boutique is still open.)

i live 15-20 minutes away from this place, and i drive all the way to PB with my friends basically just for Kahve. It's a Turkish coffeehouse/lounge/boutique. the coffee is incredibly good and fresh, their acai smoothies are my favorite along with iced chais and a breakfast bagel, and while you wait you can sit on these large plush cushions and plug in your laptop. their boutique boasts some of the prettiest tops i've ever seen along with gorgeous yet delicate jewelry, i've bought some nice things in there. also, the people that work there are GORGOEUS. so jelous. the owner is a slender Brazilian and so are most of the employees, they all look the same. the owner lives on top of this gorgoeus place, and is renting out a room for $1500 a week. its right next to the beach. this place is incredible, you have to come and experience it. i'm addicted to it, so you'll probably see me there!

First off, let me say that I don't know how to rate this place fairly based on my experience but feel like I should give it a review for....lack of communication? I mean, after all, it is a business.
So bummed! Moved into the neighborhood a week ago and had been yelp-ing good coffee places in the area. Went for a walk along the bay with my planned stopping point to be Kahve Coffee House. After all, a girl can't function without some good java! Seriously disappointed when I got there and the gate was closed and some kind of remodel/construction was going on. No signs listing when it would be completed and re-opened. Finished my walk (with less gusto due to my lack of coffee), got back home and checked their website...no news of a remodel/re-open date. Decided to call and got "Hello. No one is available to take your call. Please leave a message after the tone." Seriously?
Since there is only one other coffee house in my area, I guess that's the one I'll be frequenting. Bummer, Kahve...I really wanted you to be my new favorite spot. -

Pacific Palisades, CA
We had high hopes for Kahve. Whenever we travel, discovering cool coffee spots is our thing. We were sadly disappointed. Very cool atmosphere but the place was full of flies! There was even one in the sugar jar. In fairness to Kahve, that seems to be a problem throughout SD this weekend. BUT please check the sugar jar and think about a zapper! Also the woman who worked there was totally unfriendly. Don't know her name but she has a pierced lower lip. The girl at the boutique was great however. Sorry kahva, we won't be back. We'll try Java Jones tomorrow.

Totally unique coffeehouse. You get to literally "put your feet up" on the bench/lounge seating. Very cool design. Overally, I found this place to be a very relaxing place to hang out. And the food is excellent too. I had the Kahve Must Have salad -- feta, corn, sunflower seeds, and various other veggies on a bed of lettuce ... different and delicious. This place is high on my "off the beaten path" list.

Long Beach, CA
cool-looking coffee place with cabana-like seating which if you are with the right person or need chill time or if facing a retail shop is not a problem then this is YOUR coffee place. I just wish that the retail shop had cool designer products a la Alessi instead of 'cheap-looking' 'shabby-chic' trendy dresses. uggg

I live only a few blocks from this place, and love being able to walk over and sip tea and eat a bagel sandwich while working on my laptop with the free wifi. The best part of this place is the outdoor cushions that you can comfortably lounge back on, with the little tables in between. I love the look and feel of this place and the friendly staff and owner.

San Diego, CA
This place is tight! They have big lounge chairs where you can lie down, drink some coffee, and just chill out. They also appear to have free wi-fi. My favorite thing about this place is the atmosphere -- it's very hole-in-the-wall and hidden. It's almost just like a small alley way you can just walk into and hang out at. The coffee, too, tastes OK. Cool place to just kick back if you're in the area.

San Diego, CA
THis place is so cute, comfy and unique. It grabs your attention right away as you walk or drive by with the lively colors and inviting atmosphere. The coffee is really quality and the sandwiches are delicious, except they can turn out to be really expensive the more you add to the sandwich. They have free wifi, which is always a plus, however, they dont have any outlets. A great place to chill out on a nice day (since all the seating is outside)!

San Diego, CA
This place is honestly absolutely horrible. The saying "don't judge a book by it's cover" was made for this place. It looks cute and cool but looks can be deceiving. Beneath the trendy hip facade It really is a dump with bad service, bad over priced coffee and food, and unsanitary conditions. I have given this place a chance two times now and both times I have really regretted it. Just this morning I was at the beach surfing and stopped in for a latte. I ordered a chai latte, the women then told me I had to spend a 5 dollar minimum to use my card, which is fine so I ordered a vegan muffin..I was given the muffin which was about as dense as a brick and totally frozen in the middle. I was willing to over look this thinking I would just heat it up at home, but then I waited for my drink forever and when i finally got it they had made something totally different then what I ordered. I tried to get the ladies attention politely saying excuse me several times she was right in front of me and totally ignored my existence and then finally snapped "I will be there in a minute!" When she came over I explained nicely that i ordered something else then what I was given. She didn't even look at me grabbed my cup and asked the girl at the register what I was charged for. The girl didn't know so the lady who I presume is the owner turned to me and said that I would have to go run my card again for the difference in cost for the drink I was given and what I wanted which was .25 cents. Then in order to run my card I would have to spend another 5 dollars I said nicely I might add that I was not willing to do that and to please just refund me and I would take nothing. She told me no she wouldn't do that and that is when I finally got a little heated and said I paid for a drink, you need to give me what I asked for or refund my money. She yelled at me to calm down and that she would make me another drink when she could get to it. I waited forever for the drink meanwhile being attacked by flies because the place is full of them. While she was making the drink she talked crap about me to the other lady then finally shoved the drink at me and walked away. I was truly appalled by the whole thing. I have worked in customer service for years and I NEVER would have spoken to or treated a customer that way. Take my advice don't waist your money at this place! I never will again.

I live in Los Angeles, but I visit San Diego time to time for a lovely escape. Kahve is the perfect place to go to after/before you spend some time at the Mission Beach. The lounge-like area where you can sit back, lay back and relax while you're sipping coffee/tea is genius. The menu is simple but comprehensive. I had a sandwich and some tea and I liked it. I did not buy anything from the boutique, but I was tempted to buy it all. Very detailed and good use of space. The ladies who work there did a really good job making you feel more like a welcomed guest than a customer. I'll definitely go back.
