I have gone horseback riding with Linda many times and I'll admit she takes some time to warm up to (retired cop).  However I have never seen her abuse her horses the way that was described in the previous post.

I think it is one of the better rides on the island.  Granted it is small and there aren't many ameneties.  Linda says that she does the rides so that she can exercise her horses and get some extra money to pay for their food and stuff.

However it is the only trail ride that allowed me to ride at a full gallop and it is the only one that is right on the beach that I know of.

It is true that the horses are not docile, you do have to control them. To me that is not a negative though.  I like having to manage my horse better than some of the trail rides where the horses are nose to butt and you just sit on them.

As you can see from the pics the horses are in great shape.

Spoke with Allison over at Kahuku Kai, they are still doing the trail rides, up to 4 people at a time for $65 each. Go!! Great deal for a great time!!!

Wow. Horrible. We should have followed our gut instincts when Linda (owner) was incredibly rude on the phone, but being completely horse-crazy we decided to go for the 1 hour trail-ride anyways.

The good:
It was only $47 tax inc. (cheap for Hawaii, where trailrides are often $80) and we got to gallop on the beach (it wasn't your typical nose-to-tail walking ride) and one of the horses just had a 3 month old baby foal who followed us during the entire trail ride (cute!!)

The bad:
Our trail-ride guide was one of the angriest people I have ever met in my life!!! If there was ever anyone who needed an anger management class, it's this woman. She kept  trying to whip the baby foal when it (acting as foals act) kept running out in front of our horses or occasionally threatened to kick when we got inbetween him and his mom. Every other word out of her mouth was "bitch... fuck... motherfucker...goddamnit...stupid bitch". All this while riding on the beautiful beach in the north shore. wtf?

The horses we were riding were soo hot and nervous that 2 out of the 5 were extreemly difficult to control and hold back. (I ended up with cuts on my hands from the reins. My horse was so hot it was practically shaking under me). Our guide told us a story about a woman who rode one of the horses and couldn't get off because she was so terrified and her hands were shaking too hard to allow her to let go of the reins. This woman was a professional endurance rider! This is not something to bragg about! If I were running this place, I would not use these hot nervous arabian horses for guided trailrides, especially for begginners!!

The worst:
As we were leaving, my BF saw the owner kick one of her horse in the ribs with her boot!! We couldn't believe it. THIS IS ABUSE. No wonder these horses are so hot and nervous.

So, my reccomendation: DO NOT SUPPORT THIS PLACE.
Pay $30 bucks more and go where the horses are happy and treated well.
