I'm going to keep this short and sweet.

One of the best cups of coffee I've ever had.  Comfortable, stylish decor.  Friendly Baristas.

An absolute must for anyone who appreciates good coffee.

cozy space with tons of seating annnnnnd great coffee!!

The food: My soy Cappuccino was kick butt - foamy, with a touch of foam art, rich espresso... LOVE. Didn't try the food... but I can say that every one around me was nomming it up.

The Location: Great location in the heart of Tribeca (right across from Barnes and Noble / Whole Foods if you wanna make a day of it). The space is shockingly spacious with plenty of seats upstairs and another huge room downstairs with seating. Kaffe did a great job decorating this vast space to create a warm and intimate coffee shop with tons of seating... a rarity.

The Service: Super nice Baristas who promptly made one heck of a soy cappi! Heads up - Credit card minimum of 10 bucks.

The Price: Standard coffee shop prices.

Great neighborhood coffee spot that I will make one of my destination coffee joints.

Why is it Kaffe 1668??? They were opened in 1668???? By entering the cafe... It's a really warm cafe where you can grab a cup of coffee with your friends...

If you are going there by yourself.. Prepare Cash!! There is a minimum amount of 10 dollars if you wanna use your credit card..

NY Times promoting Kaffe 1668 as one of the top local coffee shop in NYC... So took a morning walk which is about a mile away from where I live.. Ordered a skim latte and also a blueberry scone..

They only use the best milk from upstate New York.. No pesticide.. Wow.. Even the skim milk tasted rich and creamy.. They have a variety of homemade pastries.. Under their recommendation.. I tried the blueberry scone.. It's not too sweet.. Just perfect for my "NOT SO SWEET" tooth.. Unlike many bakery shops that fill their scone with icing... Ish...

The have latte macchiato too... but I just got the latte... The coffee is not too strong... which I tasted mostly milk.. but it's not too bad.. This is probably why I took off a star.. I guess if yelp allows .5 star.. I will rate probably 4.5 stars... they have other organic coffee too.. Maybe I will try them in the future..

And check out their website.. I love how they promote their cafe with comic... :)

Another day, another morning dedicating more time to finding the perfect study spot than actually studying. On this particular Friday morning, I Yelp from Kaffe 1668, an unassuming, cozy little cafe located in Tribeca conveniently across the street from Barnes and Noble / Whole Foods. As Kaffe 1668 marks my third stop of the morning, the fact that they have Internet gains them more points than anything else. I will say that this soy cappuccino tastes quite good (and I'm a sucker for latte art), though I'm not sure its mini size (more like a macchiato than a cappuccino) justifies the $4.50 price tag. Either way, good espresso + Internet (password with purchase) = happy studying.

Even on an unusually sunny day, the place gets dark -- not super motivating (nor is the Beastie Boys threatening to blow out the speakers), but beggars can't be choosers. I'll be back.

    Additional notes / observations:
    - There is a sheep theme. Not sure why, but I'm just gonna leave it alone
    - Additional seating downstairs (and it's quieter)
    - Bring cash - $10 minimum for the card
    - They don't sell bottles of water, but if you ask nicely, they'll give you a big glass that you can refill as many times as you'd like free of charge

A beautiful, tenebrous cafe in a neighborhood I have no business being in. The decor is surprising for the area, filled as it is with reclaimed, distressed, antique (or at least Restoration Hardware's idea of antique) furniture, as is the seriousness of their coffee.

All the drip coffee (Intelligentsia) is brewed to order in what I assume is a Clover, and is spit-take expensive. I got the "Peru," which is a large coffee for only 4 dollars. But it was among the best cups I've had in New York. For a second, I think I could see the future.

Okay, I returned here recently based on currrent reviews. The coffee is still pricy but it is amazing. And the issue with the service is gone. I've been there about 5 times in the last month and each time the service was courteous and efficient.

It's very crowded during the late afternoon. In the evening, it's very dark. Unfortunately, too dark to read books.

Coffee here is on par with Gimme! Coffee and Joe's Art of Coffee (been a while since I've tasted Abrazo and Bluebird, so can't comment there). Short of paying $50 for the coffee that is pooped out of the tropical jungle cat, you can't find a better cup of coffee/espresso... probably on the east coast.

Brewed-to-order COFFEE. Plus I heard they'll ix-nay any single-origin cappuccino/latte here because it's completely pointless taste-wise. basically like defiling a Johnny Blue with coke. good call on educating the ignorant masses.

My two rubs here are: (1) sometimes i get aggressively, almost resentfully, asked to pay in cash, and (2) it gets so crowded with scruffy, hot hipsters on introverted laptops that you can't connect to the wifi.

otherwise, you can sit and lounge for as long as you want. people-watching the automatic-drip stream of finance alpha-males, aspiring move writers/producers, and the occasional student diligently scribbling away. moi? i'm still waiting for ed burns to show up. harvey keitel would be even better.

Went to Kaffe 1668 for the first time this week. We tried two different espressos---one I loved, the other I didn't, but what struck me was how perfectly the barista executed. Both coffees perfectly expressed their description. It was impressive and I will be back.

Love the atmosphere, it's a bit dark but I like it that way (seems more cozy and intimate). The wifi is just as good (if not better) than the wifi in my apartment. Overall I love this place. A must for anyone who enjoys good coffee.

It's cute inside with all of the sheep, trendy with the dim lighting, and spacious enough with two floors.  Strollers and hipsters is definitely correct when describing this place as well.  I decided to try a latte macchiato unfortunately not realizing that it's basically flavored milk, but I can't blame Kaffe 1668 for that.  The cashier who took my order, however, was very rude with his dry, snarky comments, and I swear, must have been high.  I'd come back to try a real drink but if I see him, I'm switching over to the next line so I don't have to deal with his nasty aura.

Why is this place so dark????

Walked past the cafe today at 4:20 p.m. and because it was so dark, that I thought it was closed.  Looked inside and realized that not only open, it was packed.  That observation in itself merits a visit.

My latte was very good, although it was stronger than what I usually enjoy.  It took a while to prepare, but the place was busy.

The cafe sells scones, croissants, sandwiches and the like.  Not much in souvenir items here, mostly coffees and teas and organic felt hot beverage holders, which benefit a non-profit.

The decor is mainly wood, with photos on the ground floor and cartoons in the basement.  Preferred the cartoons - the photos were the ubiquitous ones of beautiful people and things, not the more interesting ones like at Jack's Stir Brew or Culture.  The sheep theme was entertaining.

The ground floor has a large picnic-table bench, some smaller ones, and small tables.  Many people were using laptops (surprise!), although the seating is quite crowded.  The downstairs was a bit better, with large benches and a few small tables.  It was also considerably brighter.

The basement also has a fairly small bathroom, so if you went on a shopping spree at Bed, Bath and Beyond - it's across the street - you may want someone to watch your packages for you.

No, it isn't closed; it is Kaffe 1668.  Perpetually dark, often full of strollers, I still enjoy stopping in for coffee.

The good: Usually an interesting selection of coffee. Brewed coffee is done on a clover, which I really enjoy. Very good snacks.  Open late.

The not-so-good: inconsistent espresso-based drinks.  Sometimes good, sometimes not really.  Very dependent on who is pulling the shots.

I never drank coffee until I came here. For whatever reason, I can't drink anything but a Chai tea at Starbucks - if I order anything else I feel sick.

One day, I was exhausted and hungover. My coworker told me to go to Kaffee and order an espresso. Skeptical at first, I figured I would give it a try as I felt like death. All I can say is..wow. I didn't feel sick and actually had energy. Since that moment,, I have become hooked. This is a great place to start the rigorous NYC work day. Plus, it is a locally owned store which is also a plus.

This is also a good place to meet a friend / recruiter and have a quick chat without feeling too akward.

Delicious coffee. Offputting/morose staff. This joint serves some serious rocket fuel. However, the strict no-smiling policy enforced by the racing cap-wearing proprietor is almost enough to keep me away. It's Tribeca, people. Let's leave the hipster nonsense in williamsburg, shall we?

Fantastic coffee. Absurdly cute lamby things and really nice building and location. Always absurdly crowded....they need to figure out a way to manage lines other than having them literally going out the door...maybe more people on register? But the lines are entirely justified.

My cousin lives in TriBeCa so I decided to go visit her and chat over some coffee at this place. At first, I thought it was a pretentious place but then agian, I've noticed how attentive and nice the barristas were. The inside seems a bit dark with dim candles, etc but it has a surprisingly cool and relaxed and laid-back atmosphere. I had drip coffee called "Brazil" which was very good, not super strong and just right. I noticed how wooden "sheeps" with fur are part of the decoration which was strange but funny (I guess some people bring them to their table and treat them like bets by touching the fur lol) Anyways, cool hipster cafe that stands out from the generic Starbucks located throughout the city

The coffee is fine - par for the course as far as trendy little hipster coffee bars go. I prefer a good ol' cup of stumptown brewed at home over nearly anything, but this was very adequate.

The coffee menu is very short - few frills and indulgences like a Starbucks would offer.  However, for the coffee minimalist, this has everything you need.

There is a small case of pastry/sandwiches as well as some homemade granola for sale.

What I love so much about Kaffe 1668 is the atmosphere. I know, I know, some call it pretentious, but there's something really charming to me about a giant blackboard menu, an industrial-style decor, and tiny, fluffy, little sheep statues scattered around the place.  Why sheep? No idea.  Does that matter? Not at all.

THERE ARE TINY SHEEP! EVERYWHERE! It's just so cute.

The lighting is dim, so even during the day, this is a great place for an intimate first date...as evidenced by the first date I sat next to the other day at 11:00am on a Friday.  They met online.  She thought he would be older and paunchier. She was pleasantly surprised.  Why am I telling you this? Well, because, as intimate as the lighting here is, the tables are very close to one another.

I felt bad for the guy -the girl was kind of inappropriate.  But I felt great for myself because, hey, free entertainment.

Long story short: Good coffee, great atmosphere, a million tiny sheep.

This is my favorite coffee shop in the city.

Love their drinks, all their pastry/sandwiches are made in-house, and the atmosphere and decor is lovely - very tranquil, dimly lit. If you need a spot to sit down, read, answer emails (wifi password on your receipt), or just catch up with an old friend, this is the spot.

Surprising as it may seem, Kaffe is really the only cafe of its kind in the area with: good coffee, a great array of good food, and seating that make it an awesome place to work, study, or have a coffee date :)

My favorite coffee drink  the single cup brew french press which can range from $2.5 for a medium sized cup to $5, depending on the brew (which are classified by region. Ex: Kenya, Brazil, etc.) They also serve coffee drinks in real cups, which can be a nice touch.

Also, there is downstairs seating! At first glance it may look like an employee-only type staircase, but there are lots of tables and these comfortable leather benches down there.

The staff is also nice and willing to provide recommendations on new drinks. One time I was there I only had plastic and noticed a sign saying they only accepted charges for amounts over 5 dollars, but the guy working the register didn't make a big deal about it at all and told me not to worry about it.

Definitely a MUST try of the Tribeca area!

My litmus test for determining whether a coffee bar is exceptional, good, average, or just another Starbucks, is the taste of their espresso.  Overall I thought the espresso was pretty good . . . not amazing, or unique, or outstanding . . . but better than most places I've been to in New York.  I wouldn't rank it as one of the top 10 coffee places in New York, but I would recommend it to friends, especially if they are in the TriBeCa area.

One side comment, they need to up the lights.  It's just way too dark in there.

I really love the vibe of this place being so different than the rest of financial district.

They have candle light at 8am! That sure beats fluorescent lighting! wonderful relaxing way to start the day! :)

The lamb theme is adorable but still artistic. Speaking of which, there is always great or at least interesting art in this place. Cute sense of humor too.

Just the main floor of the space is pretty sizable but they have a whole downstairs too which is very loungey and would be a great cozy spot to gather and catch up with friends!

I enjoyed my cappuccino, my friend loved her mocha (I think they use organic chocolate?). I thought my drink was good, and completely out of the league of the major chains, but not particularly amazing when it comes to old fashioned espresso spots. BUT, my friend raved about her drink.

I got the blueberry scone.. super yummy, not 'too sweet' according to my friend ('too sweet' isn't in my vocabulary). She got some kind of cranberry muffin I think, it was sweeter than my scone, I liked it but she preferred the scone.

I got the cortado and it is delicious. The baristas are really nice and very knowledgeable. When I fist walked in at 1130a, it felt like I was walking into a wine bar. The dim lighting and candles on the table give a mood that is unlike most cafes I go to. I love the random wooden sheep around the cafe. Very spacious for NY and love the high ceilings.

I decided to finish up my business day sipping on their exquisite Apricot iced tea. They have a basement section with less seats and it's a bit quieter without music playing.

In the month I have lived in Tribeca, I have spent a good deal of time getting coffee from here! The macchiato is to die for, on days I don't get my coffee from here, I'm often wishing I did!

Came here to get away from all the business morning vibe of Starbucks.
It's dim and quiet. The air is filled with the aroma of freshly ground coffee beans and brewed coffee. I love their decor, the lambs everywhere! Wooden benches. Candles in the middle.

They make a great espresso macchiato and I tried their Papua New Guinea! Really robust coffee. For the espresso macchiato, I was wowed by their craftsmanship. I love the artsy swirls you get in the little cup. Great way to start the morning. It is a bit steep, but completely worth the splurge.

Their homemade chocolate chip cookies make a great accompaniment to the big cup of coffee. Always get the coffee and pastry to stay. It's so comfortable to be here!

overall, cute worth checking out if you're in tribeca. i don't drink coffee so i can only speak for their chai tea (not latte) which is good.

i dislike that they don't have the extra cinnamon, nutmeg and cocoa powder on the side to add into your drink.

Smooth. Dark. Poignant. Deep. Luscious. Velvety. Delicious.

    Espresso.

Not alcohol...look kiddos, gotta stay awake somehow...preferably with a drink whose adjectives mimic those to describe the finest of bourbons or red wines.

Take a shot, and be delivered into the wide-awake world of economically-conscientious-caffeine induced bliss and taste bud happiness.

(Other stuff: The large wood table is kind of neat in that King Henry the VIII sort of style. The upstairs is welcoming to weary city dwellers and chatty travelers alike; the downstairs is slightly more removed, and suited best to studious co-eds - with dark rimmed glasses of course - or aspiring artists.)

Awesome.  Have I ever told you how much I LOVE coffee and coffee shops?

The BF and I hadn't actually been expecting to find this place, and had stumbled on it by accident over the weekend. It's located across a whole foods supermarket as well as a Barnes and Nobles bookstore in Tribecca. As you enter, it's dark and cool with the AC running on high. This, given the 110° weather, was a lifesaver. The coffee was great - smooth iced coffee with a great depth of flavor to the espresso. There's also a lower level that has couches and extra tables for more study space.  There were plenty of tables open on both floors.  The decor was trendy but not distracting. Really enjoyed being able to do a little reading here and escaping the muggy summer heat on Saturday.

I've been frequenting Kaffe 1668 as a study/reading spot for the past two years. Its busy but never too crowded, the service and staff are great, the lighting is just right (dim in the basement with tables that are better lit but not too bright so you can still work on a computer. The natural light upstairs is really nice) - I just really dig the ambiance here.

Although the sheep theme kinda weirded me out at first, its kind of grown on me...I guess you could say that I can vibe with the sheep theme.

When it comes to the drinks though, Kaffe 1668 is not sheepish (excuse the lame pun, I couldn't help myself). The coffee bean selection is phenomenal and extremely fresh. I'm not a big coffee drinker, but can appreciate a good cup. And I've had plenty here.

Ah!, the thrill of discovering a wonderful little coffee shop in the heart of the Financial District. Located across from Whole Foods, this spot would go almost unannounced amidst an array of bigger and brighter businesses were it not for a sidewalk blackboard stand with the unusual name  inscribed on it.  If 1668 has some historical significance  or if it is a reference to some aspect of coffee production, I am  not aware of it.

The large tinted glass windows that make the storefront are a little generic but entering through the door, you are greeted by a large and roomy area and unsurprisingly, a strong burst of fresh coffee.   With high ceilings, gray and white metallic installations around, the sound and steam from the grinders and espresso machine, you may momentarily think you are in an iron smelting factory.  Not quite. For the sight of baristas devoted to perfecting their creations, the communal seating  tables with patrons lounging with their drink and the comic pieces hanging from the wall tell a different tale. A strange combination, you may think, but it blends together rather seamlessly.

Catching up with a trend that is becoming a standard in speciality coffee shops,  there is a selection of single origin beans for a made-to-order pour-over brew.   If that is not your choice on the day of visit, there is the usual espresso-latte-americano to go with (and whatever iced versions that accompany them ).   The americano is very good - medium to heavy in body, strong flavor and served in a nice ceramic cup.

Free WiFi access and the comfortable seating may convince you to bring your laptop and sit for a while and enjoy your drink in an area not particularly conducive for such leisure. In return, be willing to cough up a tad more on your caffeine.

Well, this place was more hipster than it was coffee shop.  But that's probably just me considering how crowded and busy it was when a group of friends and I made a stop.

All I ordered was a Caramel Machiato...maybe Vanilla.  Not quite sure.  Either way, I've had better.  It wasn't very pleasing to the palet.  Chalky almost.  I drank the whole thing, don't get me wrong.  I'm not going to pay for it only to throw it away.  But after my trip to NYC I could list numerous places to go to for better coffee.

Aside from that, it's a very casual environment.  Large cafe with lots of seating.  Free wi-fi.  A lot of groups of people stopping to chat and get their caffeine dose.

A shame no outdoor seating though, but perhaps the busy street or the construction at the time has something to do with that.
