i used my blackberry today to randomly find a place to have lunch at. Kabob Palace came up as a nearby choice. i pulled up and managed to peek through the open door noticing that there weren't many people inside. i was having second thoughts and even began to halfway pull out of my parking spot, but i decided to give it a try and headed on in. it is a little confusing as on the left wall there are domestic and ethnic groceries on shelves. They even have Rice Krispies if you're running low! i continued to the counter and asked for a table. i was handed the menu which was laminated and easy to read. i chose the number 4 which was a combo of beef and chicken kabobs. The plate came out quickly and was served with a proud smile. The portions were huge! the rice, basmati I think? It was flavorful and well cooked. The beef and chicken kabobs were full of flavor and properly prepared -  everything i expected.

while i was eating, the owner saw me  taking a picture of my plate. i explained to him that i was going to add a review to http://yelp.com. he obviously didn't know what that was, so I showed him the website and the reviews for his restaurant. he seemed interested and then went into the kitchen to explain the same to his wife. this time in Afghani. she came out next and i showed her the reviews again.
I don't know if it was because i had told them i was going to review the restaurant or they are just that nice, but he came out about halfway through my meal with an additional appetizer. he said, " here, try this.".  it was a dish of eggplant, tomatoes, sour cream, olive oil and some interesting spices. it was delicious! he gave me an extra 3 pieces of naan bread - as if i had finished the others!

i tried my best to clear all the dishes, but i managed to leave some behind. that's quite unusual for me as i never leave a speck.  i left there smiling, full and ready to go sleep it off until my next encounter with Kabob House. A Middle East treat in Laguna West.

This place is a must stop for me when I visit Elk Grove.  And who would ever guess that my favorite restaurant in Elk Grove is an Afghani place!

Thank goodness Kabob Palace is there to add some culture to the Elk Grove strip malls and chain restaurants (no offense Chic-Fil-A and Mimi's Cafe breakfast menu, I enjoy you too).

The ground beef and chicken kabob combo is my usual order.  Oh so yummy - especially when the beef kabob is made just right - where the ground beef is cooked well, but still juicy.  The vinegar salad dressing is really sour & tangy - can't help make a face when I take a sip of it, but I love it!

The eggplant appetizer is the real treat for me at Kabob Palace. A must try with your meal!!!

I found this place on YELP!

It was a little difficult finding this place because it was behind Walgreens, but it was worth the trip. =)

Upon entry, the left were shelves where they sold shoes, food, snacks, etc. There were 3 eating tables. The people were very nice and welcoming. I told them that it was my first time at an Afghan restaurant and they kindly assisted me with the menu. The best part is that they have picture menu. Yes, PICTURE MENU!!!

I chose their chicken kabob while my friends had the beef kabob and 1/2 chicken and beef kabob. I took the pictures for you to see. =) They start off by giving you naan with the utensils and napkins. Then they serve you your plate with your choice of kabob, rice, salad, and a green sauce.

My chicken kabob was nicely seasoned and tender. The rice was simple yet tasteful and complimented well with the chicken kabob. (I'm having left overs for breakfast). The salad was ok. It came with a little package of ranch dressing. The green sauce was a little sour but it gave a little kick to the chicken (it's fine without).  The portions are pretty big. The service was cool. Everyone there is very friendly.

Overall, I had a good experience here. It's a little mama papa shop, something you don't find much in EG. I'd come here again. =)

This place used to be my favorite untill i got really bad service. The service is horrible, the waitress was really mean and the food was bad. My bread was wet and i had hair in my food. I dont know if i said something anything but i dont understand why my friend and i got treated like this. My friends and i will never eat her again.

I was confused when I walked in because I wasn't expecting a market. There were 2 tables in the store and a large banquet area next to it. I walked up to the counter to find laminated menus and pictures of the food on the wall. It was simple and I had a #4 which had tikka and seekh kabobs. It came with long grain rice, a salad, some cilantro-vinegar, and bread. I couldn't finish it, there was so much. But it was all very good along with a real friendly, likable staff.

I had water and I was given a glass and a whole pitcher of water. The sodas and iced tea came in cans.

Some of the construction of the place looks shoddy and there was a stained kitchen rag under my bread. Aside from these few cons, I had a great experience at Kabob Palace.

The people running the place are very nice and hospitable.  The food is great and so is the price.  Coming from the Bay Area, it was great to see that there are diversified options here in the Sacramento area too.

Yummy meat kabobs!!!  Yay!!!  BF and I were the only diners at the time on a Friday evening around 6:30ish.  Took a little bit for someone to attend to us as no one was in the front.  I spotted a lady in the back kitchen who greeted us and came out to seat us.  Ordered $4 (half ground beef kabob and half beef cubes kabob) and #1 (all beef cubes kabob).  While waiting I noticed the curtain was drawn partitioning the banquet room...which the cooks were getting ready for a party the next day.  The food arrived not too long afterwards.  There was a huge pile of seasoned rice, on top was a good portion of the kabob meat, on the side was a small unimpressive green salad, there was a packet of ranch dressing which remained untouched, and a small plastic container of a dressing of some sort,...vinegar based...it was green, tangy, and spicy...and went well with the salad.  I dunno which it was meant for, meat or veggie...but it was good.  There was also a basket of bread which was very airy, but not enticing enough for me to wolf down like a piping hot loaf of french bread.  The ground beef kabob was very tasty and juicy.  The cubed beef kabob not as tasty but still flavorful enough.  The rice seemed like it was slightly oiled and was sprinkled with some kind of reddish/purplish powder stuff.  I don't know if it added any flavor but did add a nice contrasting color.  I  left full and satisfied.  I will definitely go back again.

This is an Afghan place (I'm 90% sure) that serves various kabob combos.  Basically a combo will include some fresh veggies, naan (flat bread), rice, and then your various selection of meats (chicken, beef, etc.).  The service is friendly, seeing as I haven't had a bad experience.

The decor is cute.  They do have their loyal customers, evidenced by the fact that they have now taken over the 2 suites next to it.  I guess they decided to expand and create a sort of banquet room.  The place may be overlooked by those residing in Elk Grove, since it's kind of "hidden" behind Walgreens.

Though I do favor the taste of Famous' kabobs more, this place is still a very good alternative.  For one thing, it's cheaper (the combos start anywhere from $10-12).  I also like the green spicy/tangy sauce that comes with the combos.  I guess it's meant for the veggies but I pour it all over my rice.  The beef is not as tender as I would like.  The naan is ok/decent.  They make loads of fresh naan that people come by to order specifically.

Overall a good place for some fast food kabobs.

*I ususally round down when it comes to stars with halves.  But this time I think I'm gonna round up.  I always have a soft spot for hard working mom and pop shops.

The chicken kebabs were succulent, juicy and super tasty.  The beef ones were bursting with flavor too and perfectly cooked.  The food here is amazing which is why I'm giving it top marks.  The atmosphere is simple with folding banquet tables and banquet style stacking chairs so it's good for big groups and not optimal for first or second dates unless your date loves to find little hidden places with great food and doesn't care so much about a romantic atmosphere.  The staff was friendly and helpful.  The portions were good without being too big or small.   Since the restaurant is also a market, I just went up to the register if I needed anything.  I found this little place to have some genuine soul and quality in the dishes so I'd recommend it.

Finding Savory Chicken closed; we had 2 options, Viet Hoa or Kabob Palace. Kabob Palace won and we headed in for a late lunch/early dinner.

What a find!

Kabob Palace is EXCELLENT! It advertises itself "enjoy the finest taste in Afghan cuisine" and they are right.

Walking in the place is simply decorated and small. They have larger facilities next door where a funeral was going on. It was a bit weird trying to enjoy a meal with a funeral going on as close as the curtains were but the food made up for it. The service was friendly but they were busy with the event so water, plates, and forks all had to be requested. Styrofoam plates, plastic forks and knifes are available but the actual meal comes on a real plate.

Ordered the bolani appetizer ($9.99) which is a "turnover filled with chives and potatoes with onions and special spices." It is a HUGE plate and it was more than enough for 6 people. We took some of it home. It comes with a green sauce that is spicy. Yogurt was ordered at an extra charge.

The kabobs are very big portions and enough to share. Tried the #4 and #5 Combinations ($11.99) which had  1/2 tikka and  1/2 seekh kabob,  1/2 tikka and  1/2 chicken kabob respectively and come with a salad of tomatoes, onions and cucumbers. The chicken kabob was a standout. 5 large pieces of chicken that was moist and tender and perfectly spiced. The tikka and seekh kabobs were also good. The plates come with a mountain of basmati rice. I'm sure 4 people could eat from one plate of rice. It's a big portion. The rice, though a little oily is really good and compliments the meat well. Tried the #6 chaplee kabob ($10.99), "ground beef marinated and griddled like a patty." This doesn't come with rice and has a flatbread instead. This was also a standout. The spices in the meat are really good, a little on the spicy side and the bread is really good and fresh. I didn't try the #2 entrée qorma chalau "chicken stew served with basmati rice" but was told it was a bit dry but the sauce was good.

They have baklava ($1.50) for dessert as well as other offerings.

Will definitely eat here again.

I am so thankful to have found a great Afghan restaurant! There are a TON of restaurants in Elk Grove, but they are mostly national chains/franchises, and certainly nothing that gets me too excited. But the thought of returning to the Kabob Palace would certainly make me jump for joy a little, as this restaurant offers generous platters of various flavor-infused meat and seasoned long grain rice, and just enough salad w/ their yummy house dressing on the side. Who doesn't love that? I orderd the combo kabob plate, which offered a tasting of both chicken and beef, served atop of heaping pile of deliciously seasoned rice. I can't decide if I liked the chicken or beef better, so I would recommend both! I also love that this place is open until 10pm, which definitely gets an additional star from me!
