Interesting place. I went on a Thursday night and they had a no-cover stand up comedy show in the back. Went back there for maybe 5 minutes, but it was too hot to stay.

Didn't play anything on the juke box, but the music was good.

The bar tender was great, she ended up giving us a free shot and another free round by the end of the night.

All in all, it's a solid bar. Great to pre-drink at before a big night out. It wasn't expensive nor was it crowded.

It'sthe kind of place you go when a so-so friend (Friend A) invites you to a party that is clearly important to them. Maybe it's their birthday, maybe they have a new sex partner they want you to meet, whatever.

You make arrangements with a better friend (Friend B) to meet you at the party so you don't have to suffer alone.

You make an appearance, have one drink, mock the faux-hick decor for a bit. and leave to go somewhere better. Unless there is a 2-for-1 drink special or the bartender comps you. Then you stay there and get puking drunk and sit on Friend A's sex partner's lap and it all goes to hell.

P.s. You're more likely to get rude service when it's nearly empty. Maybe they put the bitchy bartender on the lame shifts so she doesn't insult too many customers.

Right on, Joe P! Sure Kabin isn't the disco ball of bars, but it is a great go-to when you want to start a night off right. Plus it's in one of my favorite urrreas of the cit-ay. You can count on this bustlin' log of a bar for good tunes, good bartenders and even gooder (bahaha) drink specials. It's hard to turn down 2 for 1 drinks during happy hour from 5-8pm Monday-Friday and 5-10pm on Tuesdays. Drinks are pretty good pours too. Yay for booze.

Dark wooden walls frame the space with a long bar to the right perfect for pulling up a stool. I met some good friends after work on a very rainy day on my first visit. The music was at just the right volume level and the crowd was at just the right amount of rowdy, making for a perfect spot to catch up with friends or get the scoop on new ones.

I brought a friend who was new to the NYC scene, and she lurved it. Casual, laid back shenanigans with seats near a big window in the front and TV for futbol? Pssh, fughetaboudit! We'll be back.

Live 2 blocks away from this place and never ventured inside until a recent frigid evening.  Front bar is nothing special: Buckhunter, jukebox blaring Killers with 4 dudes in their Manhattan yuppie work uniforms singing the chorus in unison.  If I wasn't meeting someone there and the bar didn't have Goose Island IPA, I might have walked right out, but...

Go on a Thursday night and bee-line straight to the more chill, less douchey  "lounge" in the back.  There is a free comedy show every Thursday called "Comedy as a Second Language".  I was honestly impressed at the consistency of the comedic talent.  And the crowd reflected my own impressions, laughing a lot and applauding vigorously when a comic deserved it.  Can't beat it for the price, which is nil.

not too crowded on a friday night. chill, laid back crowd, awesome bartenders and goood strong drinks.  two largeish TVs, one in the front one in the back, perfect for sports. buck hunter and other games, deer head on the wall.  guess its called kabin for a reason.

nice place to start off the night.

Me and Joe P. live real close to Kabin, so we've stopped in more than a few times to watch the game and have a few $2 PBRs. The nightly drink specials are good - like $4 well drinks ladies night (Thursday maybe?). They have a free comedy show on Thursdays which is more than decent, as free comedy shows go. We are a big fan of the jukebox, but theres also a pool table if you like that.

After the second time we went there, the bartender remembered us. We tip well and that never fails to result in free shots. I'm a big fan of free shots, so we'll be back to Kabin.

4 stars because the place is laid back, nearby, has good specials, and the bartender is cool. We make our own good time, but if you're looking for a crowded, trendy bar, Kabin might not be the most happening place.

This place gave me a good vibe. A random mix of music. As I walked in people were Salsa dancing to some great beats and then maybe it was "A Country Boy Can Survive". Great to have a jukebox.
Not only did they have the deer hunter video game but a comedy show in the back. I saw some close friends perform there in a dusty but intimate space.

After the show I enjoyed a couple of $2 cans of  PBR. YAY! The bartender, Michelle was very friendly as well.

While taking reading to the next level....... I found some zen sarcasm in the women's restroom. A couple of my favorite sayings were:
-Never under any circumstances take a sleeping pill and a laxative at the same time.
-If you tell the truth you don't have to remember anything.
-Don't be irreplaceable. If you can't be replaced you can't be promoted.
-Everyone seems normal until you get to know them.

After eating dinner at Mosto, we needed a casual but relatively fun place to move the party, so we gazed outside and across the street and there was Kabin. Yes, spelled with a K, sort of like a kitchy cabin, and that's sort of what the interior is all about (fake wooden logs, for instance).

Drinks are cheap, which is always a good thing, and our bartender was more than helpful when we asked lame requests  like, "Make us a shot that's fun but will also pick us up, and not too sweet, mind you." Overall, I wouldn't pitch a tent at Kabin, but if I stumbled there in the wilderness of the East Village, you can certainly go with far worse options!

I had dinner the other night and then was called over here by some friends.  This place is a bar and lounge, my friends told me just to come back to the lounge.

The bar seemed fairly typical, though worked only by women.  The music was loud, the clientele seemed mostly male.  I walked back, saw a pool table, and then saw the entrance to the lounge.

Back in the lounge are a few sofas, tables, and mini-seat-thingies.  A waitress brings you drinks.  The music is different from the bar (the bar was more rock, the lounge more hip-hop) and (thankfully) you can't hear the music from the bar.

Our waitress asked if I wanted a drink, I said I did not, and then she never asked again.  I don't know if that is a good thing or a bad thing though...

One thing though for the guys: the bathroom has a toilet and a urinal and no barrier of any sort between them.  The topper though, is that there is no lock for the door.  Surprise!

What awful bartenders. my friends and I were having a great time in the east village and swung by for some shots and beer, and the bartender chick could not have been less excited to see us. She rolled her eyes, slammed the shot glasses at the bar, and threw our ID's at us. It used to be a good place to start off the night, but now it's just a dump. Not to mention there was puke in the sink and no one bothered to clean it up. I had to use the dude's bathroom, which didn't have a working lock. Bottom line: horrendous, go anywhere else

The negative reviews here are out of line. Sure Kabin isn't the most jumpin spot in the east village, but anyone who would critique this place by that standard would have to be wet behind the ears when it comes to finding a good watering hole, let alone passing judgment on one. Kabin is a great spot for what it is- a neighborhood bar, with mostly neighborhood clientele, bar tenders who have an edge, but are friendly enough if you can demonstrate some degree of maturity, friendliness and most of all, generosity (which is fair since it will be rewarded).

I have been here several times now with my girlfriend and once with a few friends as well. We cozied up with the bar tender the first time and have been treated well since then, including free rounds and shots. The jukebox is great, the 2 wide screens are adequate to catch a game without the douchbaggyness you'll find at Bounce across the street and the drink prices are reasonable (*$2 PBR's if they don't run out).

This sometimes quiet but generally comfortable spot offers enough that it's a good place to settle in with a small group for a low maintenance (but potentially wild) night out or start a long night of bar hopping.

And if you just want a coke, go to Chuck E. Cheeses.

The greatest thing about Kabin is their brilliant signs outside.  "Tipping contest, tonight!" etc...
Cheap drinks, friendly service, a nice log-cabin woodsy feel, this place is uber chill.  Good for a quiet pint, not for a rockin night paintin the town red!

Decent happy hour. I met a man named Dagger, who was probably in his 50s  told me that this place was his favorite place.  He also told me his life story while chugging on his PBR.

Dagger, I gave you my number and you never called!

I haven't been there since. He broke my heart.

They had Iron Maiden on their little music player thing..I'm down. I don't ask for much in a bar, and this place fit the bill--it wasn't annoyingly crowded with hipsters, it had a pool table, and the drinks weren't that expensive.

No clue why this place isn't closed yet.  I've been here about 3 times and each time it was dead.  Ample space but no one to fill it even on a weekend.  This bar has nothing going for it in terms of decor unless you count a pool table with missing balls, and a photo-hunt machine.  For such a snoozefest located in an area with an abundance of other choices the bartender would be the only reason anyone might return.  In this case she is the main reason people disappear never to be seen again.  In my opinion a bartender needs to possess at least one of three characteristics in order to build a rapport with a customer  1. good drinks 2. good looks 3.  nice friendly demeanor.  You would think that since 1 and 2 were sorely lacking, she would at least make an effort at #3.  Think again.  My last time there a few friends and I were still working on our drinks when she informed us very rudely that if we're not ordering anything then we need to step away from the bar to give others a chance to order (keep in mind the place was nearly empty so it wasn't as if we were in anyone's way).  Later we were trying to dispel our boredom with the photo hunt machine when she noticed a few of us without drinks (they had finished and were waiting for the rest of us to finish ours so we could leave).  We saw her duck under the bar and suddenly the screen went blank.  She told us the machine malfunctioned however my friend saw the plug laying on the floor and pointed it out.  She claimed the plug was for something else (despite the fact that there was nothing else around).  Needless to say we left never to return again.

Had the bday party here because there is a back room that they reserved for us. there is no bar in the backroom, but nevertheless it's a back room and there is space. drinks were cheap, the place is divey, but when all your friends are there its no biggie. there is a pool table in the back if you're into that. that's all i can really say because i don't remember a lot of the night.

bleh.  boooooorrrriiiinnnnggg.

i came to kabin with some friends on a pretty humid summer night.  this place was literally hotter than hell inside.  it was cooler outside than in the bar.  there was nowhere to sit, it was too loud to talk, the music was snooze-worthy, and when we tried to venture into the back room, we were told there was a private party inside...it looked like they were doing karaoke or something, but i can't be sure.  there are too many bars in the area, which means i probably won't come here again.

This place sucks. Couple reasons. One, its dead. Lots of space with nobody to fill it with. Two, a couple of times I went the bartenders were insanely rude, my group stopped by for a couple rounds, and we were about to leave when she happened to catch us waiting for a friend in the bathroom. She asked us if we wanted anything. We said we were heading out, no thanks. She got on the bar to dance, and paused the music and literally said, "Anybody at the bar taking up space and not ordering anything, GET THE FUCK OUT". It was just stupid. Its great that you are a bartender and working your way through that precious communications major or saving up to finish high school, but for the love of satan don't act like a total bitch. Its not needed.
Three, well, its just not that fun. The jukebox is standard, and on weekday nights its ok to go in and have a cheap beer, but c'mon. It could be so much better.

Kabin is a low-key watering hole that gives you exactly what you'd expect out of a neighborhood dive bar.  It's not the most exciting place, but there is a nice variety of bottled beer, and on Super Tuesday we came here to watch election returns, as it was one of the only places tuned into CNN!  They have good drink specials on most nights.

I really wish there was a place like this in San Francisco.  It's got the feeling of a neighborhood bar with pool table and juke box but there's a decent lounge area in the back that ups the place to four star territory.

Pool table, beer, chill atmosphere. Cabin is a great place to kick back in an unpretentious bar in the EV with out having to worry about it being packed. I go here when I just want to have a few with a friend. If you are looking for somewhere totally innocuous and relaxed that wont be full of annoying NYU kids or hipper than though downtown kids Cabin is hard to beat!

This place was alright.  There was nothing really wrong with it, but there was also nothing that I really liked about it.  The drinks weren't too expensive.  There was a pool table, but it was missing one of the balls.  It was actually rather large with a whole back room lounge.  One plus was that the crowd seemed to be older and not so much young NYU kids.

This place has THE craziest drink specials.  Happy Hour on Sunday nights...and when I say nights, I don't mean like 6pm night...I mean like 10pm night. That's just dangerous.  But yes, as the name suggests, it does have a "kabin" like feel to it.  But many-a-times it's usually dead, empty, and subsequently a little boring.  But like I said...Happy Hour on a Sunday night?!?!?!
