Sushi was decent. Prices were too high. $90 for 3 people (who each ordered two rolls) is too much. Decor is weird - walls are all black, windows have black shades so you can't see out and it's too dark in there. On the plus side, they're open till 1am. But I far prefer Teppo across the street - I liked the sushi at teppo better, and teppo's atmosphere is better.

I don't play around with my sushi, and K. Tokyo doesn't either.
My friend and I were having a massive sushi craving, so we ordered a bunch of different stuff. I was even feeling brave enough to try eel for the first time.
Rainbow Roll - awesome
Dragon Roll - OK
Volcano Roll - freakin' awesome
Eel Roll - it was OK, not as bad as I expected.
BBQ Texas Roll - pretty darn good
We were also given a "house roll" as an appetizer and weren't charged for it. Free food always tastes good, but this roll would have been good even if we had been charged for it.
The rolls were big and we left feeling completely full. Our waiter was really nice, but the appetizer of edamame we ordered came out with the meal, and the rolls took a long time to come out. I can't really fault them for that though: we ordered a lot and we were there during a slow time.
The interior is painted black, so it's slightly dark in there, but not so dark that you can't see the sushi chef at work behind the bar. They were playing some funky Japanese dance music when we were in there - at 2 pm on a Monday. Which made us laugh periodically through the meal.
The waiter also told us that they should have their liquor license in about a month or so, which will be a little sad for everyone who likes to BYOB - so FYI.

Yes the karaoke machine desperately needs replacing. The food varyies, but has been fair to good. The staff, once make an effort to meet them, can be very cordial and helpful. And if business is slow in the early hours of the morning, they'll even join in your fun. The liquor store next door also means my usual wine doesn't have a 100% or more markup on its way to the table, too.
Not the place to take someone you want to impress, but definitely good for a relaxing and satisfying outing.

Yet again, Yelp needs a half star system because I would give K. Tokyo 3.5 stars.
I definitely enjoyed my time at K. Tokyo. The service was great. The staff actually kept on apologizing for being slow because some college kids were having a party in the karaoke room. No apologies needed. I still got my food when I wanted it, and they were quick to fulfill my requests.
Now, for the food. Not the best sushi I have ever had, but a very enjoyable meal. My friend and I got way too much food for two people. Add the free house roll they give you on occasion, and needless to say, we were stuffed. A happy satisfied stuffed though. The white tuna and yellow tail sashimi was excellent. Very fresh. Great texture and flavor. We also got the Canada and Vietnam rolls. I honestly could barely tell them apart when eating, but whichever one I grabbed, I was happy.
Oh, lets not forget BYOB. I wouldn't bother going to whole foods unless you want a nice bottle of wine. The convenience store next door is pretty well stocked.

Gong!
Thats the sound you'll hear announcing your arrival at K. Tokyo. I went there for a bday party last night in the back (Karaoke) room. We were a large party and so we ordered 3 "boats" of misc. sushi, and most of it was quite good, and a good value. K Tokyo being BYOB, we headed next door (to the mini mart) to pick up some chilled sake. My friends tore up the Karaoke machine, and the chef even came out and sang a tune for us! All in all, a great night.
I can't imagine ever needing a sushi fix at 6am, but if so, I'll know where to go.

I hadn't heard of this place pior to a week ago. I was with Jim last night at K. Tokyo. We grabbed the karaoke room and setup a table. The place is old and a bit dirty for a sushi place but goes with the Lower Greenville vibe.
We had a large group... we waited for about an hour for any food to come out. Not many customers either. I was starving. Food was good, service was not.
Karaoke machine broke during our birthday group singing session unfortunately. There is a picture of the sushi chef/owner in the back room. He was on CBS this morning at some point. Nice little guy.
Overall decent if you want a quirky little place that is different than most Sushi restaurants.

The sushi was ok. It wasn't the greatest, but it wasn't the worst I've had. The salmon nigiri was good- fresh tasting and sweet. The spider roll was just ok. It was fried a bit heavy and doughy, as opposed to tempura style. As for the amaebi, which has become one of my new faves, the shrimp itself was good. The head, like the spider roll, was fried in a similar fashion. They also have a Karaoke machine and it's BYOB. 3 stars.
Saw some early buzz on the message boards about a new 24 hour sushi joint on Greenville Avenue, so we rolled in around 9:30 last night to check it out. Warning: upon your arrival some member of the staff will rush to the door, reach over your head (if you're 4'11" anyway) and bang on a gong really loudly to announce your presence to the entire restaurant. They will bang the gong repeatedly upon your departure. For someone easily startled by loud noises (me), this makes for a nervous, distracting meal as patrons come and go.
The menu was a mix of Japanese and Korean dishes, and the staff was all Asian, which was initially a good sign, but I stuck with the sushi menu. I ordered the philadelphia roll ($6.99) and the tempura shrimp roll ($7.99). They were both significantly larger than I'm accustomed to. The philly deviated from tradition through the addition of imitation crab and cucumber, while wrapping the salmon (not smoked) around the outside. The tempura shrimp roll was marred by the same crab and cucumber. I remedied the situation by dissecting the rolls to my liking. The waitress brought another roll, on the house, but I couldn't understand the name she murmured. Underneath a loose beard of panko bread crumbs, I detected a layer of spicy mayo, more imitation crab, and other miscellaneous soft proteins. It was tasty, though what isn't after you smother it with that spicy mayo?
All in all, the sushi was nothing to get excited about. I'll likely never choose to have dinner there, but it will make for great post-2:00 AM sobering grounds.

If you want Sushi and Karaoke 24 hours a day then come here. The couple that works here are very hospitable and kind of eccentric. I think they live upstairs. Anyways if the door is locked just knock and wait, they will let you in. They just keep it locked during late hours of the night. The karaoke selection is decent and the food was very good. Always a good time.

Eccentric. The owners definitely take their time and don't seem to ever be in a rush. All the workers simply disappear for several minutes while everyone just waits and wonders. On the positive side, they are very hospitable and will make you seem interested in whatever bizarre conversation they instigate. They have always brought out free rolls and seem genuinely excited to know your reaction. Oh yeah, you can never go wrong with BYOB...

Went there on a Thursday night....Portions were pretty big and tasty for the rolls...raw stuff was great as well...definitely not a crazy high end place....your dollar definitely goes along way here.
Don't miss out on some of the appetizers that are off menu..they are definitely worth asking for.
The owner is pretty cool and will sit down and have a drink with you.
This place is byob and everyone that comes in knows it.
There is a liquor store next door or a Whole Foods across the street.
If you go there after 9 pm beware of the trashed college kids attempting to sing karoake. ..they are more into the screaming than singing.

Dallas and Sushi? Sounds like an Oxymoron? How about Sushi 24 hours a day WITH a karaoke bar. Impossible you say? Nope, it's all here and all wrapped up right in Lower Greenville.
I first visited K. Tokyo the second week of its Grand Opening. Talk about dining experience. You are greeted by several broken English hellos by the staff and managers of the establishment and a grand gong is used to mark your arrival. We got free sake, free sushi rolls, and an awesome dining experience overall. The owner Kang, Dae Soo is a world reknowned Korean/Japanese Sushi Chef that has over 35 years in his career. He has also published a book on the art of sushi making which is displayed proudly on every dining table.
K. Tokyo is my favorite sushi bar in Dallas. It beats all competitors with the service, food and dining experience. Try the homegrown Dallas-based sushi specialty rolls. They are to die for!

I don't hand out a lot of 5-star reviews, but I don't remember the last time I fell for a restaurant like this.
My girlfriend and I tried this place right after it opened up about a year or so ago, around lunchtime. We were greeted with a gong and a smile from the chef/owner Dae Soo Kang, and both ordered the lunch sashimi bento box. After a parade of freebies, our meals came, heaping with amazing fresh cuts of fish, and enough sides to have us waddling out.
Seeing it was a 24-hour place, we showed up the next night, only to be shocked that it was the same chef. Apparently he works 24 hours a day, and sleeps in the back when it's slow.
The prices are about average for a non-trendy sushi spot, but what you get for that price are huge, creative rolls and mouth-wateringly fresh sashimi.
I've heard complaints about the service, but that can only be attributed to a culture clash. The staff speaks little English, but are incredibly friendly. Chef Kang, a noted author and 40 year veteran of the art, is half the fun and character of the place. Don't expect the flashy Asian cliches and trendy decor that are trademarks of Dallas sushi restaurants; this place is all about the food.
I have taken it upon myself to tell the world about this place, because if it dies from lack of exposure the same way so many others on Greenville have, I may die myself.

hmmm not so much. we ordered a nice variety of things but seemed to notice an abundance of fruit flies with each course. in between swats the food was pretty satisfying but the service / atmosphere wasn't all together [although the precision of gong to entry was dead on]. once ticketed our server informed us all machines were down and they didn't accept checks; we had to walk to a convenience store + pay a fee to pay our check.. YOU BREAK YOU BUY!
