I'm on a strict fitness regimen these days. It consists of 1) lots of exercise, and 2) consuming "food" and "drink" packed with mysterious, unpronounceable ingredients. K & D Market is my ally on the latter front, as they sell fat free frozen yogurt! Five stars for a random stroke of genius in a hole in the wall convenience store that is at least a dozen blocks from the nearest froyo place.
Disclaimer: I have never purchased Tecate here, nor have I patronized the store at night when the allegedly surly man is there. I have no input on the question of electrocution by beer can, nor on the existence of crazy mofo.
There is one crazy mofo who works in this place. Can't find the ice cream you want? You'll get yelled at. Counting your change for too long? You'll get told you're lucky you were born here cuz otherwise you'd get deported for being so stupid. Do not - I repeat - do not engage the guy behind the counter in conversation.
went to grab a tall tecate can in the cooler here when a short somewhere in the lighting of the door began to send 110 volts of electricity through my arm as i completed the circuit of door to metal can. after a second or two of being shocked, i could pull my arm away. throbbing and numb in the arm, i went to the front counter and told the moron behind the counter, "your fucking door just shocked the hell out of me." his response? "oh yeah, people tell me that happens." and then he made me pay for the beer.
The wine and beer selection is decent, but there are better further down 16th (read: away from my bleeping home) so I find myself coming in here quite often. One of the guys who work here seems perpetually pissed off, but there's also an incredibly friendly woman who is often working during the day. They don't take credit cards, though, which sucks. Yes, there's an ATM, but I hate surcharges.
