The exterior of this hotel is surrounded by scaffolding which means they are still working on this piece of art. It's beautiful, and has a piece of art with naked butts in the lobby.
The elevators to get to the 3rd floor are extremely slow, though. The 3rd floor is where you need to be to check in.
They have no 4th floor, but retained the 13th floor. The 13th floor is where you will most likely enter another dimension, they keep aliens cryogenically frozen, or people will actually act on their superstitions and refuse to stay. The 4th floor magically disappeared due to asian superstition.
The room we stayed in is equipped with a 42" lcd hdtv, and, unlike other hotels, actually has hi-definition channels. There's a shower and a bathtub. But you can't use one and escape from prying eyes of someone using the other as they are not separated. There is no curtain for the bathtub, and the shower has a clear glass door. Though, you can do both is you're comfortable with it. I prefer to take a dump and watch people shower at the same time, as the toilet seat faces the shower directly.
The room came with the new magic refrigerator, that magically incurs charges to your room if you touch anything inside of it.
The bed has a surplus of pillows, and even a phallus shaped one for gay pillow fights.
Nice new and clean look to the room garners this hotel a high score.

Fantastic service from the moment you step foot on the property....Very nice rooms and quiet! It is still a rip off when you have to pay $12.95 a day for internet.....come on give us a break will ya...If you are in the city stay here! Really....you will love it.....

The Marriott on Post is a great place to stay if you are attending a conference, or are in town for business near the financial district. The Hotel is close to the BART station, which will take you right to SFO.
My room had a nice flat panel TV, and a great bathroom with a tile shower stall and tub. There is also a bar downstairs, valet and room service. But with great local restaurants, good public transportation and bars-a-plenty, I didn't use any of their services. They did bring my up a mini-fridge free of charge so I could have some snacks and bring left overs back to my room.

Beautiful hotel located a little bit off of Union Square. Our room ended up to be a corner room. First time for me that I have to walk down a hall in the room to get to the rest of the room. The room was huge and had a huge TV too. The bed was firm and comfy. Of course one of my rule is in hotel you have to jump on the bed. The reason why is you can't do that at home. I do wish the shower was bigger but you did have your own separate bath tub. I do wish they had an extra garbage can in the room besides the one in the bathroom. Overall had a wonderful stay.

My wife and I enjoyed a lovely room. Decor up to date and clean. Bathroom large and well lit. Staff pleasant and responded quickly to all requests. They need to replace the windows in the rooms with double pane windows which would help on the sound issues from the street which is can be too much. (Bring ear plugs).
The food in the hotel restaurant was actually great. The steak was cooked perfect! I was surprised. The bar area was wide open but not a lot of traffic so this is not the place to hang out to meet people, rather to hang with your own group. 2 blocks from Union Square and all of the great shopping.
The best bed and comforter you can find. Robes were nice, soft and thick. Very clean room and staff was very helpful from the time you walk in to the hotel. Great shampoos and amenities. Perfect location since it's close to everything. Hotel has really no restaurant to speak of and nothing to offer us as far as night life is concerned. Only complain is the noise from the street, you can hear in the room though we were 13 stories up high. Wouldn't mind taking the bed home and replace what we have now.
Room was very nice. I'm not too crazy about the big open space in the center of the hotel as I'm afraid of heights, but I managed by hugging the wall. One elevator was shut down ( out of 4), so we at times had to wait with a crowd. The elevators were slow. Scaffolding was on the outside of the hotel.
Location = 3 (hard to get to with the one-way streets and construction)
Decor = 3 (modern look but under construction and not well kept, photos are better than reality)
Bathroom = 5 (bath and shower, family liked lighted make up mirrors
TV = 5 (large flat screen)
Staff = (bell captain = 5, front desk = 4, room delivery = 3)
Gayle and I spent a marvelous night here as part of our annual Holiday escape to the City. I sometimes spend a lot of time traveling on business and Gayle often helps me out with child care and house coverage. So this is a nice way to cash in some of those hotel points, show Gayle a good time, and say Thank You!
Up front, I think Ryan W. is right in that the polite service at this J.W. Marriott lacks the attention to detail and extension that I have experienced at the J.W. in Houston and the very few times I have spent at other higher-end hotels. For example, I would have appreciated a little help at the entrance towards guiding me to the Lobby which is on Level III. It's not obvious to the beginner. Also the guy at the morning coffee bar seemed to just be going through the motions. And then there was the long line at morning checkout with only one staff member working. Marriott's lobby Internet practices are also perplexing. It's $6.95 for 15 minutes at their nicely appointed stations. Yet, it's free at any Courtyard, Residence Inn, or Springhill Suites that I have recently stayed.
But the positives here far outweighed the negatives. The person checking us in was friendly and very helpful in confirming our walking directions to our Kung Pao Kosher Comedy event that night. The hotel itself is in a great location near Union Square. The room was large, nicely appointed, comfortable, and had a very handsome marble-accented bathroom. The atrium was also impressive, as was the layout of the Level III lounge and restaurant areas. Gayle and I very much enjoyed just hanging out.

30,000 of my Marriott Rewards foir one night in the most comfortabke bed I have ever slept in.
Thats about where the story ends. The most exoensive bar in the city - Even more than the ultra fantastic Redwood Room at the Clift.
The hotel used to be the Pan Pacific and has an odd layout. Yopu go up to the third floor - or Level III to check in and find the lobby, bar, and 2 restaurants.
The glass elevators are cool, but done before and kinda dated. The suicide railings are not hidden by any means and actually make you think about jumping off rather than hiding the fact that you can still fing a way to do it if you really wanted. Our 8th floor room door was located oddly behind a pillar. as were most doors.
Once inside the room it was very spacious and had a large LG flat panel TV and a huge marble bathroom. The Tub took up most of the space - I am assuming its former roots as the Pan Pacific was the cause of this. The shower was small and only built for one. Which, on our vacations, is a bummer as we like to conserve water =)
Thats our story and I am sticking to it.
There was a weird sign placed next to the shampoo and soaps. It read something like - If you feel the need to take any amenities, then the appropriate charge will be placed on your bill.
Weird. If I open a shampoo, I can't take it? Do you reuse them? gross. You throw them away? What a waste. Just kinda weird for a 30,000 point per night hotel.
I guess that goes with the $13 mimosa our friend had while waiting for us to check out. He wished they would have used a good champagne too.
So how do you rate all this with the most comfortable hotel bed I have ever slept on?

Bar: very nice, elegant, comfy and cosie. Perfect for a quiet-intimate evening with the espn! -definetly not for sports bar groups.
this hotel has under gone massive renovations and many improvements are still in effect. Though the hotel is only a block away from union square which makes it extremely appealing but it is 2-3 blocks away from tenderloin area. the hotel is Bart accessible, close to shopping mall and some great restaurants. There platinum member lounge on 21st floor serves excellent pastries/ desserts in the evening.
I find there rooms to be rather cold and lacking character. They are relatively big with lot of empty space. Though they provide 46" LCD but dark colored bedrooms are real turn offs. Also I am not impressed with cononcierge restaurant recommendations.
There is a parking structure two blocks away from the hotel where u can park over night for quarter of the price of hotel parking
Cashed in some points to crash in the city. I don't think people reviewing realize JW Marriott isn't a 'Marriott' - its called JW Marriott to signify a more elite hotel, and supposed to be a a creme de la creme property.
No complaints here (other than a rude valet I almost slugged...)
Checkin staff very hospitable, rooms nicely done, although nothing over the top.
Better sound proofed windows should be installed, the glass is very thin and lets in much of the Union Square noise. But then if you drink heavily you don't hear the sirens all night. :)
Depending on the rate, I'd stay here for business if needed.

Um..
"...if you feel you absolutely must have these items, we will be happy to conveniently charge it on your bill."
That was the sign that greeted the amenities placed in the bathroom. It's an awfully perplexing sign, because if you go to the hotel - don't you ransack the shampoo, conditioner, lotion... blah, blah, blah?
And then there was the notion of if you are staying with someone, for two people - you have to do two deposits, from each person. That was service hiccup number two.
I think the Marriott that I stayed at near Old Navy in the city had more character, class, and even though it was at a lower price point - there was something more consistently upscale about that one. It seems as if Marriott wanted to charge more, so they made things out to be and look more expensive. But just as a whore is a whore, a slut is a slut... a MARRIOTT will be a MARRIOTT. Adding JW has the propensity to complicate things...
The room was nice and spacious, however. If you are looking for a good bed, do go here. The 900 thread (?) sheets that great you on a dreamy bed is just heavenly. That was probably the greatest thing about this place.
And you think it's a hotel, it's a bed and blah, blah whatever... it gets the job done, right?
But if you are fronting some money, you expect some sort of good service. And maybe more politely worded, welcoming signs...
Otherwise, the end all be all... this place is what I imagine what Tara Reid's room at Promises looks like. And I mean that's with the hideous, obtrusive suicide railings that greet the floors of where each room is stationed. I'd come back for the bed, but there was no great service to be remembered. And with San Francisco: the W, Intercontinental, the Nikko and maybe even the Clift could call your name in a much nicer way...

Secret 1: I've been married once and it was here on the top floor with 150 of our closest friends when it was the Pan Pacific.
Secret 2: The bridesmaids were all on mushrooms.
Secret 3: On that top floor, there are panoramic windows all around the east side of the building, and there is a beautiful open-air patio that is often left unlocked in the SE corner. Great place to grab a drink (at the bar) and hang out up there. There used to be chairs there... will check again soon.

The staff here gives first class treatment!
Visited this place when it used to be the Pan Pacific. Upon entering the check-in area, one of the staff members kindly escorted us to the lounge area upstairs and sat our freezing, wet bodies in an oversize chaise right in front of a warm, blazing fireplace. Immediately one of the waitress came by and offered us something warm to drink. We were not even staying at the hotel, but the staff was so thoughtful and friendly. Talk about gracious, going above and beyond services!!!
The decor is rich in warm colors and has a chic vibe to the place. What really impressed me were the white marble, plush, gorgeous bathrooms...Some members of our group ordered from the kitchen and bar, but personally I cannot attest to if the food or drinks were any good. I just sat, drank my tea and enjoyed the atmosphere and was really appreciative of the great staff that was on hand.

Stayed here using a Free Two-Nights Stay Coupon.
Very nice hotel. It's what I pictured a Metropolitan upscale hotel should be.
My only qualms were that there was no ice machine on my floor, and evidently they have stopped offering 24-hour Room Service, even though there still was late night menus available. They have done the same at JW Marriott Desert Ridge in Phoenix as well.
Overview: Beautiful property, great location. It's close to a lot of the things I wanted to do in San Fran...
Everything here is perfect!
We originally had a room booked at the JW Marriott, but due to an overlapping in bookings, they moved us to their sister hotel which is the Hotel 480....and they were going to comp. the room as well as pay for parking and breakfast or lunch. Once we got to Hotel 480, they upgraded us to a suite with a view of the city and bay. We left that hotel the next day paying only $4.67. (what we went over from lunch) Will go back again!

This place is stunning. Euro-hip to some extent... Nicola Conte nujazz filtering through the lobby, uber hip lounge couture seating (IE - banquets that look cooler than they feel) and an entire lobby level committed to the expansive whiteness that creeps upward, and the huge social bar area to order beverages to cope with that.
A glass of their only by the glass champagne was Chandon, and it was $15 all said and done. That is aggressive, but it is a downtown hotel so I might be out of my league.
However... this is something I shouldn't mention for fear that the management might see it..... for the young, darling, adventurous, sassy era-forward couples that don't mind being spry and adventurous, the top floor is accessible in the evening, and is deserted as there are no groups in those meeting rooms. However, having meeting rooms neccessitates bathrooms, and those unlocked bathrooms necessitate passion and adventure for the right young couple. Just sayin'... if you are into it, you know.... there ya go. If not, enjoy the look down and don't be tempted to let your gum fly loose into the fountain below.
Plus some love for the old school hyatt glass elevators.

I think I have died and gone to heaven. Do you know what this hotel has in every room? A one touch, personal butler button that immediately brings whatever you need at the drop of a hat. Imagine that! A magic button . . . .I just wish it went with me everywhere I go!
What can I say? I am a big fan of JW Marriott's- the higher end of the Marriott chain who put service and comfort at the top of everything that they do. And this location is no exception.
Conveniently located in Union Square, the JW Marriott San Francisco is close to shopping, great restaurants and all that the "City by the Bay" has to offer.
The rooms are spacious with deluxe bedding, pillowtop mattresses and LCD TV's. I also like that they have this "media plug in center" where I could play a DVD on my computer and have it transmitted to the flat screen TV in the room. Pretty nice!
My room had a city view which is great by day or night. Bose radios gently wake you in the morning and I love the nightly turn down service with the thick robe and chocolates placed on my bed. The bathrooms are well appointed with rain showers, deep tubs, lots of marble and toiletries.
The hotel is undergoing some renovations for the restaurant and bar right now so both are closed which is the only reason I didn't give it a perfect score. Room service, though, is fast, efficient and the food arrives piping hot by some of the friendliest people around. I thought the guy this morning who was so nice was going to read my paper to me when he brought it in!
The next time you are traveling to San Francisco, you should check out this hotel. It's got impeccable service throughout, inviting rooms and a great location. But it's also got that "magic button" that puts it over the top for me!

SWANK!
I was surprised this was a Marriott. Very unexpected to see such a contemporary look to one.
As a fellow coworker staying here put it, this is an ideal hotel for the Yuppie set. Plasma TV, Bose alarm clock, wall-to-wall marble bathroom w/tub and shower, lounge right beside check-in....the only thing missing from the room was Crabtree and Evelyn bath samples.
I should note that my one complaint was a very understaffed check-in desk. I had to wait quite some time just to get someone to ring up some crackers from the gift shop (it is not separate from the check-in desk). Luckily, I didn't have to utilize the front desk very much.
Another thing to note for future patrons--there is a concierge button in-room and you'll have to call them for sodas and/or ice. Ice and vending machines were non-existent here.
Love it. Would likely have given it another star if it weren't for the fact that I know people who manage this place and I need to give them something to strive for, right? The renovations give this a much needed, updated, comfortable and fun vibe. Bar/restaurant area is great - happy hour specials are very nice!
Service is fantastic, from front desk and concierge to banquets, room services, etc. For meetings, if you can score the top floor space, that is the way too go. Though I shouldn't really spread that word around - will be more challenging for me to get that space, then!
I even liked this place when it was Pan Pacific.
There meeting space is nice. They have great views of Union Square and the staff is friendly. They are well on top of our needs. The prices are a little excessive.
I recommend the stay here to all my visitors. This is a nicer end of the Marriott's and the service proves their higher standards.
There is room for improvement with their updates to the interior and exterior decor. Otherwise the place is almost perfect.

Mmmm, fancy. Unfortunately, I have little to compare the JW Marriott to but I thought the suite we were in was really nice: couches were comfortable, bed was a bit too soft but linens great, and the turndown service was awesome. The best part, though, was the club with appetizers and dessert and breakfast! Everyone there was friendly and accomodating; one even told me to take some extra sodas at the end of the night in case we wanted any after the club closed at 10 pm.
One day, we'll come back to the JW Marriott... but first, we're going to try out all the other luxury hotel chains. Maybe the JW wasn't THAT great.
OMG- yelping stuff in san francisco is like- there are already a million billion yelps for everything. Crazy!
So this is the hotel that wife's parent's stayed at during our dual-family weekend graduation awkward-stravaganza. It's got a very decent location just off Union Square (with the nightmarish parking to match!) and I guess it was, until recently, the pan-asian hotel.
The main thing to flag here is that they are doing substantial renovation- so the bar area is currently located in a sub basement- and a dirty sub basement at that. Minus one star!
The room we saw was fine- with an above average bathroom, flat screen television and decent decoration that appeared to have been recently renovated (no doubt in synch with the ownership change.)
It's worth saying- and this goes for ALL downtown san francisco hotels- parking on site tends to be $35-40 a DAY. Downtown San Francisco is pretty compact, so cab rides tend to be $10 or less in the main touristy area, so before you spend $80+ on a car rental and parking, you may want to consider just cabbing it around the city.

We stayed at this hotel due to the walking distance to Union Square and all the shops. It is conveniently located. The room is a good size and comfortable. Services are pretty good. We particularly like the dinning restaurant. Too bad the top floor rooms were all closed, so we couldn't have any glimpse of the view of the city. For the price that we paid ($100/night), it is a great deal. We'd come back to stay at this hotel next time due to its convenience, the comfort and the size of the rooms.
We aren't crazy about the interior decor- a bit dated for us. But that's okay.

The staff was great, however the hotel was finishing up on remodeling so it was not as fabulous as I expected. The concierge helped set up a great wine tour with a private service that was only 4 people including me and it turned out to be the highlight of my San Francisco/Napa Valley trip.
I used to stay at this hotel when it was the Pan Pacific hotel. It still has all the features that made it a fine hotel back then, features that even Marriott can't mess up: great location, nice room sizes, large marble bathrooms, impressive atrium. Unfortunately, Marriott's conversion into their upscale JW Marriott brand has caused the place to lose some of the finer details, the more exacting service that was a hallmark of the old, Asian-themed Pan Pacific. Perhaps it's the Asian propensity for attention to detail that is now lacking. Service was polite, but I never felt they extended themselves to make me feel special. A typical chain hotel experience. Too bad. Still, the place deserves at least three stars for all that it was, and all that it could be again...
Things I really like about this hotel:
* The gym is nice, and open 24 hours
* Room service is 24 hours!
* The rooms are equipped with Bose sound system, flatscreen TVs, and completely marble baths!
* The lobby's modern and well decorated - I wouldn't even have guessed that this was a Marriott.
* Great location - it's right next to Union Square.
* And last and best of all, they have this pineapple, papaya, and carrot soup that is heavenly. :-D

Paint the white atrium walls grey, remove the odd lobby kitch, replace the ornate suicide cables with something more industrial, ride the glass lift up and down through the cramped bowels of the seventeen story atrium you have middle management housing on the Imperial Death Star.
Or leave it as is, it's a midpriced tourist and business hotel for visiting life forms.
Either way it is dark in here. And c-c-cold. Two fireplaces are turned up full blast even on the hottest day.
Please keep the centerpiece sculpture of four naked girls dancing atop a giant marble ashtray, because every guest needs a big bronze tush in their face.
the only reason i wouldn't give it a 5 star review is because of the MESSED up service one of the concierge workers gave me. screw that guy, i'll be calling customer care later about him.
standard basic rooms are 265 a night.
they are beautiful for what they are and the bathroom is huge.
they are slow if you ever need ice.. takes them like 20 minutes.. BUT you do get a HUGE lcd tv and hbo..
i got to catch entourage during my star and that was an added bonus! haha.
also, house cleaning comes 3 times a day, so make sure you have ur please do not disturb sign up if you don't want to get woken up!
Rooms are a great size. We have stayed here several different times and only one of those had great service. Always had to call for extra towels, pillows... Most of the time they do not check your frequent Marriott preferences. One trip we booked 2 beds (traveling with mother-in-law) and they only had a king bed with a fold out!
Very nice JW! I live in one in Houston, and this one definitely keeps the standard as high, if not higher. Beautiful rooms, beautiful lobby, and obviously a fantastic location. I came to visit my friends who were staying here, they ordered me some food, and it was pretty darn good! Overall, a clear winner.

4.5 stars really
nice big rooms. comfy couch. big comfortable bed.
NICE bathroom.
minus half a star for the elevator. dont get me wrong, its not slow not dirty or anything like that. its glass. i can see how high we're going and how high we're at. very dizzying. that's just me i guess. maybe if i closed my eyes, i would have given them the whole 5 star?
did i say they have a very nice room and bathroom?
This WAS the place too stay when it was the Pan Pacific, but now that it is the JW Marriot it will seriously disappoint return visitors. However, new guests won't notice and will probably love it since they have nothing to compare it too, but this place used to rock! The bathrooms were the key feature as they were all pimped out with stone counter accessories, plush soft towels, two robes (not just one), and the best of all a TV across from the big soaking tub. It was awesome! A bubble bath, some champagne, a good movie, then into the warm cozy robe. Now all gone! Marriot has spent alot of money downgrading what was already a fabulous hotel. Not too mention the $50 dollar parking fee that you pretty much have to pay because there is not a nearby garage that allows overnight parking. A big BOOOO for the JW Marriot way to ruin a great thing!

One night stand at the JW Marriott. I would not put this property in the class of a Four Seasons or Ritz however very nice. Interior design appears to be out of the step with today's newer hotels however nice up date Marriott style. Our room on the 8th floor was well appointed with plasma TV, and updated furniture. Bathroom was nice however fixtures were older. Lobby bar offered "Happy Hour" mac and cheese and Kobe sliders. Drink selections were appropriate. The bar area however did not have a cozy feel. The area appeared to have a hotel sterile presence. Service was friendly and competent. Restaurant manager stopped by to introduce himself and confirm if we were satisfied with the service. Very professional approach! During the late night could hear near by room doors slamming. We also thought we heard soft music playing at different times of the night from the lobby area since all the floors look down onto the lobby on the 3rd floor. Not a issue unless you were an extremely light sleeper.
Not sure how this place is as a hotel... but if you are looking for a place to go to meet someone for a meeting - the lobby is a good place.

Nothing like a nice room for St. Pats weekend and a great rate. The rooms are pretty darn big. I swear it's 70% as large as the condo Iive in. I had the king size bed which is great for all the rolling around after a night with DYL crowd. The flat screen table top is a nice touch, but give me a larger regular TV. At least, i got two small pieces of chocolate. The bathroom was real nice. Tub and shower seprate which is a big plus. Nice oversized sink with plenty of room to put toiletries on. along with shelving that had normal hotel give-me's. Small 9" tv by sink. Little small for tub viewing and no good view from the pot. The location for the holiday was nice. Easy to get places, even Richmond Dist. Short hop home from a quick stop in North Beach which meant my pizza slices were still warm. It was nice to be able to go from home by SJ airport to hotel for about $10.
The third floor bar looked like a nice place to relax and visit for people from out of town needing such. Didn't chek out the gym but being open 24 hours is a huge plus. I reallly needed a good sweat befor the St. Pat's festivities.
