7 reviews for Jumbo Buffet
While I'm of Sicilian descent, my mother and aunt both accuse me of having an 'Irish stomach'. (Please forgive the ethnic slur...it's their term, not mine.) What they mean is that when under pressure/hunger, I can make due with almost anything. So, today, under the pressure of a Chinese buffet craving, we went to Jumbo Buffet in North Bay Village.
I'd visited the other on Biscayne before, and it wasn't bad. Now, please note that, of course, one must manage expectations and throw palate to the wind when going to any buffet restaurant. However, I was in the mood for salty, fried, and plentiful. Even with only that criteria in my mind, this Jumbo Buffet left me bloated, but not sated. The food was warm/cold, not hot. The decor (Do I dare call it that?) was dark and dank, and on such a beautiful day, downright depressing. Maybe the weekend isn't the right time for a place like this. I'll stick to the Biscayne location when the mood strikes.
This restaurant has quite a history.
It was the location for The Place For Steak, where known mobsters were killed in the 1960's. I think it should be sold and a condo should be erected.
My Dad loves buffets, so he's like, "AZ, let's go that Chinese buffet on the JFK Causeway." I'm like, "Doesn't sound like a good idea, but whatev."
Sure enough, it was not a good idea. The "Chinese" food was bland and kinda mushy, the ice cream was EXTREMELY hard to get outta the tub and they were serving maduros. Mothableepin' maduros at a Chinese buffet! You can imagine how tasty those were. Kinda like a mix of oil and death. The egg rolls were pretty good. In lieu of other options, I ate like 15 of them (not proud to admit that).
Dont' go to Jumbo Buffet. Drive to Sunny Isles and go to Emerald Coast. It's waaaaaay better. Or just get regular human-sized portions of Chinese food. Your colon will write you a thanku email.
To Be a Buffet, the food has very good quality.
Not very good waiter's. But over-all...
the food is very good, and not that expensive.
ooowe bad reviews. Hey, I like the place, nevermind MSG overload! The prices are LOW and the crab legs on given nights ROCK! Never had cold food but I am selective on the items I eat here. They've got cookies & cream ice cream so I was sold on day 1. Hot tea and noodles, crab legs, egg rolls and a mix of beefy like dishes you'd find on Strange Foods with Andrew Zimmerman LOL!! Overall rating is... "I'll go back for 12 bucks and a huge selection."
Jumbo Buffet has two locations that I'm aware of but this is the only one I've been to so far. And I can vouch that the food here is very solid. I have a friend who comes here once a week because the food is that good, at least for a Chinese buffet.
I don't think this is the largest buffet (although I haven't seen many since I'm not the buffet type), and I certainly am not impressed with the fact that they have American food. But the Chinese side would more than satisfy your cravings for Chinese food especially for the price (I went for lunch in a weekday).
Weekday lunch: $6.75
Weekend lunch: $8.30
Weekday dinner: $9.50
Weekend dinner: $11.75
Ice cream and soda are included in the price.
i was excited to go here, i love chinese food and i love buffets. however, this was one of the worst places that i have ever been to. the food options were many (many 50 or 60 items) but the majority were unlabeled and many of the items were cold from sitting out too long and not being reheated. the ice cream was the one positive. at the end, after leaving a few dollars tip, the waitress demanded that i give her more, for what? its a buffet - i served myself. and its totally rude to demand a tip not to mention. i was so offended by the lack of class of the waitress that i will not be going here again, not to mention the issues with the cold and unlabeled food
