I spend alot of time in Providence and this is one of my favorite places down there.  The food is as "funky" as the neighborhood.  There are a ton of vegetarian options (not that I'm a vegetarian myself, but good to see a place that caters to them) AND a great selection of imported beer.  They even have a beer sampler!  That's certainly not the normal pairing!

My favorite is the eggs benedict, which you can get any day at anytime.  Unless you are a big eater you just need to get the half portion to be satisified.  I also love the Cuban sliders!  But, you basically can't go wrong with anything they make.

On the negative, they could add another waitstaff on Saturdays and Sundays...service then is especially S L O W.

What better way to spend your morning than eating not one, but three breakfasts?  I'm an egg hater and there were so many vegan/vegetarian options, I couldn't decide so I had to go with the orange/cinnamon pancakes (vegan), fried egg with hollandaise sauce (vegan) and the Wu tang scramble (vegan again).  M-E-T-H-O-D Man!!
Top it off with some cantillon on tap.. What else could make this place better?  Nothing.
I'm all for trips to Rhode Island.

this place is great because meat eaters, veggie eaters, and vegans can all eat here in peace. prices are pretty decent and they have a butternut squash risotto that kicks ass! the scene is great. very hipster.

why the lack of two stars do you ask?
mediocre waitress
long wait, and then, even when our table was ready they still made us wait
my friend's burger was no good and the brocolini on top of the risotto was yuck.

i only took off two stars and not three because this place has potential. perhaps i came on an off night. i'm willing to give it another chance.

YAY Julian's!
There are just so many lovely things about my dear Julian's. For one, their ever rotating menu and specials are innovative and always combining little surprises I'd never think of. My favorite has to be the Naan Pizza.
They also have a great selection of draft beers (the way to my heart) and bottled beers.
I'm not a veg, but I don't particularly care for a lot of meat, and they have a lot of great options and alternatives. I find that a lot of places either cater to vegans or meat eaters, but I think they've hit the median right on.
While everything is good and amazing and ooh la la, it's just a tad on the pricey side. Which normally I don't mind bc I love the food, atmosphere, and choosing from a list of amazing sounding beers I've never heard of, but it is what it is.

Oh Julian's....how I wanted to be able to add another 5 star review to the list. Let me first get the positive part of my experience out of the way, because the things that were good, were not only good, but pretty freaking awesome.

When planning my weekend with friends in Providence, I knew I had to plan one very, very crucial meal: Sunday brunch. However, I was faced with a dilemma- I needed to find a place that would equally wow both the carnivores and the vegans/dietary restricted. Being the second most reviewed restaurant in Providence, I didn't have to look far. I literally had been waiting months to try Julian's brunch and after showing my husband and friends, we all agreed this was the perfect spot.

First- the interior of Julian's is really cool, so much to look at and talk about. I also loved the open kitchen where you can watch the eclectic staff cook up their famous dishes. Our server was very friendly and quick to take our orders. The brunch cocktails were excellent- the bloody mary was one of the best Ive ever tasted, really fresh and had the perfect amount of spice. I ordered a small sangria so when I received a giant pint glass, I questioned it to our server. She explained that they had run out of smaller glasses so she gave me the larger at no extra charge. Nice!

I pretty much knew what I wanted since I had the menu memorized for months. The Nova Scotia Benediction did not disappoint and was probably in the top 3 brunch dishes I have had. Thick italian bread perfectly toasted topped with smoked salmon, poached eggs (cooked just the way I asked) and a creamy hollandaise sauce, paired with homefries and a side of applewood smoked bacon. In a word: awesome. Everyone else in my group raved about their meals as well: vegan pineapple pancakes with fresh fruit, the Desperado Benediction (toasted italian bread topped with poached eggs, salsa, avocado) with a side of tempeh sausage and the Sith Lord Omlette (stuffed with  sweet Italian sausage, red pepper, tomato, cheddar) with a side of pork salsa hash.

Now...the negatives. Our party of 4 arrived at Julian's at 11:50am on a Sunday and were told that there was a 45 minute wait. No big deal, we saw the people standing around out front when we drove past and knew we would have to wait a bit. Plus, the weather was gorgeous and we were able to get a few mugs of coffee to enjoy while we waited. and waited. and waited. AND WAITED. we saw people get called for their tables, go in and eat, then leave, all the while we were still outside, WAITING. finally, after about an hour and 15 minutes, J goes in to check on our place on the list. She was told  by the host  that there was a party of 8 and two parties of 5 ahead of us, but we understood that, they needed bigger tables. So the party of 8 gets seated. Then a party of 5. Then the another party of 5. We see more people leave and we are happy that FINALLY it is our turn. But NOOO we were wrong. A party of SEVEN, who came after us, is called next. Confused, we discuss what must have happened and come to the conclusion that a big table must have opened up and that's why we didn't get called. Again, WRONG. As the party of 7 goes in, we hear the host say loudly to them "Hope you don't mind, we had to push a table of 4 and a table of 3 together." ARE YOU %@&#&$@ KIDDING ME?! Buddy, you just loudly gave away our table to people that came in AFTER US and admitted it loudly enough so we could hear. About 10 minutes later, we finally get called to our table. Time check: 1:30. Remember when we got there at 11:50 and were told it would be a 45 minute wait???? No apology was offered, no explanation, no little something on the house. (and no I don't count my large sangria, our server had no clue what we had just gone through.) Plus, as if to add insult to injury, there was a table being occupied by a group of 4 for over TWO hours and in their last hour, they literally sat there, chatting it up, staring at their drinks, with their leftovers all wrapped up in front of them. How rude are you as a patron to do that in a slammed, small restaurant where you see tons of people waiting to be seated and how wimpy are you as a staff to not gently move them along? Lets be real, even if you did insult them, I highly doubt that offending the group of 40-somethings would do much to deter your strong, 20-30somethings, hipster following.

Also, you have a serious fruit fly problem that you need to do something about. I don't exactly love swatting flies away throughout my meal.

So really Julian's, learn some manners and do a little fumigating because your food is so damn good and your atmosphere is so interesting that you have no excuse to let these two things cloud your reviews.

I liked this place. They try a little too hard to cater the hipster kids and vegan bike riders... and there is nothing wrong with that, however the staff as a result is a outright rude to you if you are not covered in tattoos and wearing jeans two sizes too small.

My boyfriend and I went for a late lunch around 3 when the scene is pretty quiet. The hostess wasn't friendly and just gave us menus and pointed us to the corner. The waitress wasn't much better. She wore a sweaty wife beater and ripped jeans. I know that the atmosphere is supposed to be "hip" and relaxed but I really wasn't looking forward to having her handle my food.

My boyfriend ordered the black bean burger with a side of spinach and bleu cheese hash. In my humble opinion I found the burger a bit dry, but he seemed to enjoy it. I ordered the chicken, bacon and boursin sandwich. It was quite delicious and the fries were not bad either. I just hated that our waitress was so lifeless and monotone. I felt as though she hated us for disrupting her quiet time.

She never refilled our very small cups of water. Never checked back at our table till the very end and told us about the homemade ketchup once the fries were almost gone. I just assumed she was just not thrilled to be working but as we ate, a couple of girls with tattoos and spikes came in and OMG! The waitress was friendly! SHE SMILED!

I don't like going to a restaurant and having to question my identity... I didn't tease her in high school or kick her puppy, why was she so rude to us? She didn't know these other women... she just related to them I suppose, but thats not the point of food service! I went to art school too! I have a tattoo too! I just don't feel the need to be overly gaudy and force it down others throats, does that make me not welcome at Julian's? I love overly complicated bourgie food as much as the next person and my money is just as good.

If the food wasn't so good I would have given them one star and wouldn't think of wasting my very measly teachers salary there again. We intend on going back hoping it was just a fluke in service, its just usually so crowded and with so many other good restaurants around without a wait we just go elsewhere. Hopefully if we ever do make it back, we will get another server.

Every time I'm in the city of God I make it a point to eat at least one brunch at Julian's; it reminds me of home in socal.  The space is like an older coffee house, art colliding with kitsch.   Their menu is new american comfort food, with a healthy undercurrent of vegetarian and vegan dishes.

I've never had a bad meal here.  The eggs are always just as I ordered, which is vital when delving into benedict land.  The other key to a superior brunch, the potatoes, are crispy outside and soft inside; in other words, exemplary.

Prices are very reasonable, so what's keeping you away?

Been here a couple times recently. I haven't gotten bad service just for not being a hipster, and i'm by no means a hipster. I will agree that is slow, but not bar. I do like how they have caraffes of water on the table though, for those of us with more camel-y tendencies.

Late night outside was nice to have a bottle of wine, and a burger. Burger kinda sucked and was just a hot mess on wheat bread (they were out of buns). And it didnt come with fries or anything. And i am not a fan of their homemade ketchup. (more proof of my non-hipsterness! bring on the corn syrup!)

Went for brunch, pancakes were delightful, as was the syrup. Their homefries are good, as was their toreador omellete. The sweet potato hash was kind of a mush bowl of non-tasty. My veggie mom appreciated it later though.

Overall, i can get behind what they do here, i used to be a veggie, and the world needs more people that are willing to cater to all food life choices. Just wish the food was a smidgen better, a little quicker, and it wasnt hot as f'n balls inside!

Technically a 3.5

I wanted to love the vegan brunch at Julians, I really did..

things started out well, a large vegan-friendly menu with lots of interesting flavor combinations like a tofu scramble with shallot confit and pepper olive tapenade, or lemon-cinnamon sugar banana pancakes. I will say, the coffee was fantastic. The hipster vibe, was great. The staff, super friendly. And for this, they get three stars.

I opted for the orange-cinnamon french toast (with a side of fresh fruit that consisted of half a cut up apple, a few grapes and two orange slices), while my husband got vegan tofu-benedict. They both looked beautiful.

The french toast was three huge slabs of under-flavored, barely cooked thick texas toast pieces. The outside was sorta crunchy and spongy, but it lacked in taste. His dish looked like something even totally hungover, I wouldn't touch. Greasy as hell, but of course, he loved it. A bit underwhelming, for the rave reviews we heard from local friends, but maybe I'll try something different if we go back.

I've only been here twice - once for dinner and once more recently for brunch.  Dinner was fine but not memorable.  The only thing that stands out about that meal was the strangely appealing dark & tattered college vibe.  Brunch, on the other hand, was great!

They have a huge, reasonably priced brunch menu.  I especially liked that you could get half orders of eggs benedict/florentines and order literally 1 (single) pancake.  Their hashes are delicious - we tried both the mushroom & boursin, and the sausage one.  Most people are drinnking bloody marys or mimosas, and that's because they're well-made and cheap!  You can tell a lot about a brunch/lunch place from the quality of their onion rings and home fries, and both are excellent here.

The only downside is that we had to wait for a table.  But we milled around outside in the sunshine, so even that didn't seem so bad.

You've got to try the beer battered Fried pickles.  Their homemade catsup is delicious.  I like this place.   We didn't experience any of the poor service the night I was there, in fact, I would say other than they were obviously overwhelmed because of the crowd that kept showing up...the wait staff was pretty on top of everything.

If you're a vegetarian there are some great dishes..likewise they have lots for us omnivores as well.  Their burgers and french fries are great.

This is definitely a 'pete, repeat, 'pete, repeat type of place.

I frequent Julian's often, but had a friend in from out of town on Friday, so took her there for brunch. Sam was our server & we sat @ the bar for our brunch. They had a very impressive selection of craft beers & a great specials menu board. I had a difficult time choosing my beer and my meal! Went with a chilled mango, watermelon & cucumber mint soup before my omelet, which was HEAVENLY. My omelet special was divine, and my friends meal blew her mind it was so good. Sam was ridiculously friendly & helpful for our entire stay, and all of the staff working that day went out of their way to stop & chat with us while we were at the bar. It was a great first place to bring my out of town company, and she left impressed.

Tofu breakfasts are so hard to find anywhere but thank goodness for Julian's. Breakfast for me will never be the same now. They have the most interesting and flavorful brunch options I've seen anywhere. They know how to combine vegetables.

I got the squashbuckler, which includes tofu with butternut squash, onions and spinach fried in garlic.  Everything was fresh and flavorful. There was no skimping on the vegetables here.  My friend got the sith lord, which was equally good.  The homefries are cooked with some sort of flavorful orange-colored fat.  mmm.  I did try them with the homemade ketchup, but didn't find it to be a good pairing.  The homemade ketchup, more spicy and tomato-ee than generic ketchup, must be delicious on french/freedom fries.

Regarding timing: I came here around 9:30am on Saturday and the place was nearly empty. By 10:15 all the seats were taken and by 10:30 there was a wait outside in the cold.

The setting is dark with an old coffeehouse feel, and the wait staff are as adorned with tattoos as the walls are with pictures.  Everyone is friendly and casual and professional.  My coffee was refilled more than once even though it was crowded and busy; as opposed to most places I've been where you have to chase someone down for a refill.

I will definitely be back.  Julian's please come to DC!

How is it possible that I lived in Providence for 4+ years and did not know about this wonderful place! OMFG I am angry about all the wasted meals I consumed at Greg's or some average place on Thayer... I could have been enjoying Julian's delicious offerings all this time.

Admittedly, walking up I was a little afraid. Didn't really LOOK like a restaurant... more like an out of business tattoo shop... but once through the door I knew I would love it. Amazing smells filled the area and cozy little tables were scattered around the room. It's decorated with neat odds and ends and local art, which just add to the atmosphere. Very friendly staff.

We dined like kings. We shared the tortillas and dipping sauce, french friends, and I ordered the almond encrusted tofu steak. My other friends had the burger with a creamy mushroom/cheese spread. We also ordered the sangria. Everything was so tasty.

As a vegetarian it is exciting to have more than one choice on a menu (and not just a Cesar salad ether). All the combinations seemed unique and I had a hard time picking just one. I will certainly return again.

I really love the decor, and I've had good experiences there overall, but the food and service I had tonight was only A-OK. We had to wait 45 minutes (granted, it was Friday night, but it seemed like the seated a whole bunch of people whose parties weren't all there, meanwhile we had to pack into the bar waiting for what seemed like forever). The waitstaff was very friendly, it just took us forever to get seated.

I split the naan pizza and a black-bean burger with a friend, and both were only OK. The pizza featured fried capers that were way too salty (and I love capers), and the bean burger was way too thick. Another friend got the squash pasta, which was EXTREMELY sweet. The best part was dessert, which was a vegan brownie that did NOT taste vegan at all.

Nothing beats the bathroom here, though. They play funky old movies, which, along with the space heater, kind of makes you want to stay in there forever.

Oh, Julian's.  You make me smile and snicker in the same breath.

I am definitely fond of the innovative concoctions, the seasonally relevant ingredients, and the subversive, lowbrow art atmosphere.

Service isn't always spectacular, but that's what you're going to get with the ironic t shirt crowd.  I mean, you're lucky they're serving you.

If you can ignore the carefully styled disinterest in you and your pancakes, you'll have a tasty brunch experience that will leave you satisfied and considering a new tattoo.

Julian's is rad. Like velvet underground rad. It may not be a commercial success, but that's not really it's goal anyway. It's more about experimentation and the subtle inspiration of restaurant culture.

I find it a delight that the food and beer menu evolves with the seasons. I get something different every time I go and am generally pleased. Desserts are surprising delicious and the blue cheese spinach hash at brunch is savory on savory on savory.

If you go for brunch on Sat or Sun, get there before 10am or expect a 45-60 minute wait. Seven stars is at the other end of the block if you want coffee while waiting for a table. Parking on the street is always easy.

Also, don't expect to be hurried along to eat here...The service is respectfully slow, but enjoy it. It's not mean spirited. They're just actually cooking your food.

Vegetarian friendly. Kids welcome. Bras optional.

Alright, so my first time at Julian's just happened, and I'm sorry to say I've already moved out of Providence, so who knows when I'll get to experience this great eatery again?

The mood of the place, as many Yelpers have tried to pin-down, is complex. It seems geared toward a younger crowd, and it is definitely one of the more hip restaurants I've had the pleasure of eating at, particularly in that area (Federal Hill being just around the corner, which I do not consider "hip" but rather "traditional"). The vegan and vegetarian options are plentiful but not exclusive--that is, there are several options with meat--seafood, chicken, and beef (maybe pork too!). I had the lemon-dill warm potato chips with a Freddy Burger. It was delicious and tasted authentic. I'm pretty sure everyone I was eating with agreed. The food, though a dollar or two more expensive than the average joints you'd be used to visiting, is well-worth it.

The beers on tap are pretty expensive, so be warned. The cheapest is five dollars and they go right up to 10 I believe, but obviously you're paying for great micro-brews and European names that you might not find elsewhere in Providence.

I don't know if it was an off-day, but our waitress was pretty horrible. She was A) very soft spoken, which does not do well for the cacophonous environs that make up Julian's, and she B) (though this may not be her fault) was extremely slow in just about every aspect of our order. But there's plenty to look at on the walls, and if you're with some friends, time moves quick.

Great food, slow service. We were seated promptly for a Sunday brunch, and the brunchy foods (various omelets and french toast) were quite good when they arrived. OHHHHH!!!

SOOOOO YUMMMY!  This is the coolest little place I have found thus far in Providence. There is low lighting. Which I always like, everyone looks better in a dark room. Walls are covered in art with cool things to look at. The bathroom has a TV in it!!! Had retro movies playing, last time I was there.

The dishes with meat are excellent, the veggie food also great. One of us had the vegan version of a steak and cheese. Ehhh not so much. Kind of creepy, but everything else made up for it. And the brunch is my favorite kind. It isn't typical eggs and homefries stuff. There are some ethnic dishes with eggs and marinara sauce and garlic toast. Heavens to Betsy. Try the Israeli Breakfast.

The music selection is cool, like it made me feel cool for choosing to dine there.

Cocktails are experimental, beer selection extensive.

The service was attentive without being annoying. It can also be spotty but whatever, it doesn't matter.  When I come here it is to sit in a corner booth and read a book or hang with a friend, and consume booze and delicious eats over an extended period of time. And I think that is what Julian's is best for.

Ok...so they are busy on the weekends and for Sunday brunch... So DON'T GO THEN! (here's a tip...don't judge any restaurant by it's busiest night!) Julians is the place you've been looking for all your life: a place where as soon as you walk in you feel you belong. Great simple food, very friendly people. Most cities would beg for a place like this...character and style out the wazooo! You want fast and bland: the landscape is littered with Appelbees and Dunkin Donuts. You want a great experience you won't forget? Head over to Julians, sit at the bar, sip one of their inventive beer list selections and watch Ian gracefully create an effortless culinary ballet the likes of those old New York short order cooks of yore. The guy never breaks a sweat! Don't miss this gem.

This place is second to none on every level:

-The best food anywhere in the city (especially brunch.)
-The best cocktails anywhere in the city
-Incredible service

The one area where they come short is not having the best coffee....but Seven Stars is just up the street and, whenever I've come for brunch, they let my wife and I bring coffee in from SS.

Seriously....I rarely give out 5 stars, but this place deserves it.

By far my most favorite brunch spot (and likely my most frequently recommended) in Providence.  The staff is hilarious, the decor is funky, and the food... oh man, the food.

They put together ingredients that I'd never think to put together... I mean - a seared tuna benedict?  Yes please!  I've never had a better brunch.  And, as a pescetarian, it's nice to know that I can show up there (unlike so many other brunch joints) and know that there are plenty of meat-free or fish options.

And dinner... While J's is known for brunch, you really don't want to miss out on dinner.  Try the gnocci.

You know all the bizarre toys and knicknacks that you had as a kid?  This is where they all went when your mom threw them away.  Seriously, there's a Yoda bobble-head on the register, and probably a fortune in other Star Wars figures in the bathroom.  (There's also a TV in there that's playing god-knows-what - I think it's a 70's protest film?  Who knows.)

Anyway.  The food here is amazing - I frequently get the naan pizza, which is bacon and eggs and cheese and garlic-grilled tomatoes on a naan that's been tossed on the grill long enough to be crunchy and buttery.  Nom.  They've also got great gingerbread pancakes.  But nothing I've had here's been bad yet - and the array of ever-changing drinks and food specials is always worth coming in for, even in the unlikely event that you find nothing on their large and varied menu to interest you.  (Three different types of exotic-meat sausage?  Lemon cake French toast with scotch-vanilla cream sauce?)   For not too much money, you leave full of tasty food that never disappoints.
Come earlier than you would otherwise - it's always packed.

The salmon smoked benediction was good, the pork and salsa hash was only ok. Maybe my fault for ordering it, but it is what it is.

I miss Julian's. I  miss this little hipster spot. I miss waiting 40min just to have your delicious breakfast. I love the specials. It's great  that they switch menus depending on the season. I almost forgot about your secret ketchup. I want the recipe!
If you're one of those people who like to just be in and out... [if the service is still a little slow] relax a bit. it's a great place to converse and get lost in. visit the bathroom. it holds an even greater amt of entertainment as the art on the wall at times.

Can't wait to visit pvd. I can taste the home fries with ketchup... And new things on their menu...

As with all great places, I would kill to have a joint like this in Albany.  But, now I have another reason to come back to Providence.

First, let it be known, I am no hipster nor am I a vegan.  To be honest, I did not even notice they had vegan options.  I did notice that I was one of the squarer people eating that morning.  But I am comfortable with who I am, so no worries there.  Plus I was raised better than to wear hats indoors.

It was a great brunch.  I had never heard of Israeli eggs before - eggs poached in a spicy tomato sauce - but the waitress gushed about them, and they sounded good.  The eggs were maybe 30 seconds overdone (hard yolks are so disappointing) but it was a tasty meal.

I was less enthusiastic about the naan breakfast pizza.  The naan was a bit too crunchy for my tastes, and the dish didn't really come together.  Maybe it is just that the smoked salmon didn't work as well as some of the other meat choices.  But the potatoes were well seasoned and their hash of the day delicious.  I liked their coffee too.

Being a bit more rough around the edges allows them a little more leeway in execution.  Even though prices may be moderately high, when a room is draped in fanciful bric-a-brac, one isn't expecting flawless, one expects a certain rough hewn ingenuity.

Looking forward to go back and try some more of their menu and check out the bathroom.

I can't believe I had never been to Julian's before last night.  I'm in Providence pretty often (I'm from RI, but I live in Boston) but always find myself going to the same places, namely Kabob and Curry and Garden Grille.  And sometimes Rasoi.  But alas I have opened myself up to a whole new world!

My husband, my friend, and I walked in around 8:00 last night (a Saturday) and we were seated immediately.  The place had a great atmosphere with tons of artwork and kitsch.  The menu had lots of interesting offerings, including a lot of vegetarian fare that wasn't limited to one lame veggie burger and one lame garden salad.  One of the specials was a tamarind tofu steak served over a cheesy mashed potato cake.  Plus you can substitute seitan in any of the meat dishes on the menu! Score.

I started with an iced tea, which was cold and delicious and unsweetened and freshly brewed.  Awesome.  My beer snob of a husband was quite impressed by both the obscure beer offerings and the condition the beers were in when served.  He said they were all fresh-tasting and it was obvious that they actually cleaned the draught lines.  It was hot out and I wasn't so hungry, so I ordered the black bean burger with avocados.  It was tasty, but difficult to eat.  They served homemade ketchup, so that was nice, but they also served a horseradish mustard that made me think flames were going to shoot out my nose.  The boy ordered some grilled tofu with green beans, and our dining companion got a sirloin salad.  Everything got good reviews.  Service was a little slow, but I didn't care because I was so in love with the place and my surroundings.

Julian's is one of my best discoveries this year (thanks to Yelp of course).  Here are my points of comparison.  If you've been to Bukowski's in Boston or Cambridge, Julian's is kind of a step-up both in service, food offerings, and attitude.  If the Other Side Cafe was cool and had no pretense, it might be like Julian's.  Unfortunately for us Bostonians though, that's not the case.   But I'll certainly drive down to Rhody for some authentic Julian's action.

Slightly dark on the inside, but not so dark that you won't be able to see whom you are eating with.  Decor is eclectic and there's a small bar that seats about 10.  The bathroom is unisex and Star Wars-themed with movies playing on a small TV.

The food was delicious and plentiful -- the hamburger that I had was full of flavor and interesting tastes.  There is food for all eaters (carnivores or otherwise).  The chocolate dessert was unreal and made the night even better.

Service was friendly and comfortable.  I would definitely go here again and will likely go often.

Uber Providence hipster spot on the rapidly changing West Side. Super funky decor, i call it Acid trip-chic. Full bar, standard drink prices. Good food, it's like a greasy spoon diner met Timothy Leary  while watching Food Network. Ive enjoyed everything Ive had, and the prices are reasonable to high, but the menu is inventive. Seems a bit pricey for the atmosphere, but the food is great. I had a burger with canadian bacon and some Granny smith's i believe. That, fries and two beers was like $20 plus tip. Not bad, the burger was chronic.

They have the coolest bathroom with a black and white TV playing ninja movies and some sick early gen Star Wars stuff. Like I said, uber hipster. Reminds me of the Haight.

Julian's is just so wonderful. I take my visiting friends there and am proud to show them just what Providence is about. For those unaccustomed to the more artistic, wild side of Providence, go to Julian's. For those who want to go where the locals go, come to Julian's!

My dad works right down the street from this place, and I have been meeting him for lunches here for years. The service is slower than a Kentucky hour, but I think it is fine for anyone looking to have a few drinks and enjoy the day.

This is what I like: The french toast and the omelets are both amazing. The mango lemonade is very refreshing. The other foods on the menu, while super yummy, tend to reflect the atmosphere by being a little over the top. Lots of flavor, my friends. Lots and lots of tattoos and flavor.

My all time favorite thing to order is the stuffie and the dark and stormy. The stuffy, for those of you who don't know, is a Rhode Island specialty, a quahog that is chopped and put in a bread stuffing with peppers and spices and then baked in the shell it came from. Julian's makes these fresh and they are the best stuffies I've had in the state. They are also very spicy, and seasonal.

At the bar they serve a mean dark and stormy (my favorite drink) and there is a tv in the bathroom that usually plays cartoons.

Julian's looked closed...but it's not.  It's a hipster paradise-- a pretentious hole in the wall-- a tarp-covered- skinny-jeans-infested- you-have-to-know-it's-there-to-go-there-
awesome-beer-and-veg-friendly-food joint.

That said.  I liked it.  The food was fun-- I had the hinden-burger (cranberry boursin and baby spinach) and my vegetarian friends all had plenty to choose from.  I also liked their inventive cocktail menu.  Gently Johnny, a mix of apple cider and stoli vanilla with a cinnamon sugared rim made me pleasantly tipsy even before the meal was brought.

Service took sort of forever, but not in a bad way...more in a digest each course and be social way.  Don't go there if you're in a rush.

The cheddar broccoli fritter appetizer with chipotle lime dipping sauce is also not to be missed.  And we had the banana rum cheesecake for dessert.

The B Alien movie on the TV in the bathroom made me laugh and laugh.  The scrabble club taking up the whole back of the place made me laugh too-- but in a different way.

GOOD GOD!!!! Get off your computer and go to Julian's. I sometimes eat here twice a day... AND IT IS STILL NOT ENOUGH. The food is out of this world, the ketchup is amazing, and the specials are inventive and always delicious! GO GO GO!

Julian's has a unique, enjoyable atmosphere, with quick, friendly service. Theirhomemade pickles and spicy ketchup are great compliments to the meal. The flat soda, and over greasy cheeseburger, that literally made the bun a soggy, disgusting mess, made the meal a total turn off.

I was in a search for a diner to bring my friend to for her birthday, since she has been to all the worthy diners in the area I spent my time sifting through reviews from Phantom Gourmet, Yelp, Boston Globe, ecc... Finally on my last Google search I found it.

This cute little website that boasted robots and vegan food. Just what I needed! Brunching with a Vegan and a Vegetarian is very difficult, you can't just hit up any old diner and expect good results since almost everything tasty is made with eggs or bacon (as far as I'm concerned).

Tofu is on the menu at Julian's in abundance, they even have a vegan section. I got the regular 2 eggs, any style, but they had various delicious items - I have only looked at the brunch menu, but I saw really good looking omelette's, particularly interesting is the "Jedi Mind Trick" which I want to get when I go back. My friends got the "tofu scramble" and the "vegan ginger bread pancakes" everything was very good. They have homemade ketchup too!

On our way out we each got a Julian's tote (five bucks/bag) and a big smile from the host, who had been playful and nice about the wait to get in. Though it took a little longer than I expected for the food to hit the table, the art that covers the walls as well as makes up the surface of the table is enough to keep your attention off your stomach's growling.

They are open for Brunch, Lunch and Dinner daily, I highly suggest you go - this eclectic diner just off of 95 seems as though it belongs somewhere else (California, or somewhere just North of RI) the prices are reasonable and they serve various beers and wines for dinner.

I've been to Julian's three times...and while I would really like to give it more stars I just can't. It has many great things going for it...a nice beer list with funky beers on tap, chefs that are true chef's not just cooks and a cool vibe. That said, I have to take off stars for the fact that despite paying 15 or 16 dollars for an entree I leave hungry. I'm not looking for falling off the plate portions, but the last time I was there it was barely enough for an appetizer.

I think the vibe at Julian's is great. It's a little trendy so you might feel like you need to be part of a club to dine there, but I've seen a few people wander in from the street and seem to have a good time. There's usually a wait to get in (at least in my experience) but the folks are nice and the food is pretty out there and delish. Prices are good too.

Service is insanely slow, but I think the idea is to relax and digest, not something we're really accustomed to, so if you're in a rush, head the other way.. but if you want a taste of this side of Providence, take seat.
