We were in Julian, and I had the bright idea that since there are a lot of B&Bs, we could just drive around and find one. Well, it was the Saturday of cold, rain and fog. Luckily this place was right on the main road, and had two rooms available. The inn-keeper was extremely nice, and friendly.
Unfortunately, the cottage was already booked, so we were in a rather small room. It was very clean, and had a claw-foot bathtub. The room was pretty cold when we went in, so we turned on the heat. It got VERY, VERY hot...I had to wake up twice in the middle of the night to keep turning the heat down, and it didn't seem to let up.
We got up, and headed to the breakfast. The granola cereal was great (you can buy it there at the B&B). The fruit was good, though the canteloupe could've been a bit more ripe. I don't eat eggs, and they served an egg florentine. My cohort said they were good.
I'd love to see the larger rooms or the cottage here.
Note-no TVs, phones, clocks, etc. in the rooms.

I guess i'm not AS stoked about this place as the other reviewers, but it was an okay bed and breakfast.
The first morning we woke up there, they didn't have eggs, it was just the granola, which is good, but i felt like a more substance, but that's just me personally.
i got the honeymoon cottage because it was my boyfriend's birthday, and it was definitely cute, but i definitely didn't feel like it was as nice as i expected it to be for the price. it wasn't cheap.
The local is great because you can walk anywhere, and all in all i really liked Julian. I guess i was just a bit disappointed in the food and the price of the room for what we got. i wouldn't stay in the honeymoon suite again. However the journal left from previous guests was a sweet touch.
The Juilan Hotel and B&B is the only hotel that was operating at the time of the gold rush.
As you enter you are transformed back into time and it looks like your great, great Aunts house. This is a good thing!
The cottage was to be ready at 3pm and we popped in early just to check out the lay of the land. Lisa greeted us and let us know the cottage was ready (2 hours early) and checked us in. She was very friendly and accommodating.
The Honeymoon cottage is separate from the main hotel and very private. It's darling inside with lots of lace and a gas pot belly stove. Cute canopy bed that was very comfy and a cool huge claw foot tub.
It exceeded our expectations and if your looking for a theme style getaway room tastefully appointed this will not disappoint.
We stayed in the Honeymoon Cottage which is totally separate from the main hotel and very private.
It exceeded our expectations. It was cozy, clean and very romantic. We loved sitting out on the front porch watching the tourists go by while we sipped out wine.

I had a *real* bad time with the first two places I checked into and was almost ready to leave town. But I was finally able to exhale when I set my bags down here!
No tv, no phones, but Wifi and tons of books and games to borrow- perfect!
The website if helpful when calling ahead for a room- I got to wander around upstairs and pick my room (go eleven!). It has a spacious, super sunny bathroom, and classic bed- not much else. The upstairs rooms are great for sleeping and reading in bed- that's it! If you want to hang out and have more space, go first floor or their cute little cottages. I ended up hanging out downstairs in the parlor, on the back patio under big trees, and on the front porch catching the last sun rays- sigh!
This place is an actual 'bed and breakfast' in the true sense- no continental breakfast here! Start with delicious, in-house made granola and juice, then a hot course, Dudley's bread, and fresh fruit. First day, I had delicious eggs Florentine- eggs, cheese, spinach- oh yeah! The second day was a mini omelet with a mushroom gravy- yumo! Tea time brings tea, cookies, fresh baked bread- just what you need after a day running around town!
The staff is great! They keep menus up front and an up-to-date book about everything the town and surrounding areas. Friendly, courteous, willing to go the extra mile. They were the first friendly faces I saw in town and thank god!
Check out the website for deals- can't wait to curl up in bed with my man when the ground is covered in snow!!

Love love this place! We stayed in the cottage that is separated from the hotel and it was so gorgeous and clean! I was quite surprised when i walked into the place that it was exactly how i imagined it to be. All of the staff was friendly and helpful. The location is excellent we could walk to everything. The Tea time is cute and just gives you this warm feeling. The breakfast in the morning is really good too and i love their homemade granola. This is where my fiance asked me to marry him this past October! :) This is our new yearly retreat place!

Oh! I am first! Awesome, just like this hotel.
First off we drove there on a Friday night & hit all the bad traffic, so i called the hotel & let them know we were going to be a little late (I was under the impression that check-In was 3 to 10pm) and our hostess was so sweet about it. She stayed up for us. We check-in & the room was tiny but SO beautiful! There are NO TV's or phones in the rooms (for good reason) so be fore-warned but I guarantee you WILL NOT miss them ;) With the price of the room you get breakfast (freakin' so YUMMY) either Apple pancakes on Sat & eggs florentine on Sunday. Bring your extra stomach as there's SO much food & it's so damn good. PLUS, at 5pm there's tea! With scones with cream & strawberry jam ;) Apparently too, Albert shows up sometimes to make sure all his guests are doing well:) He was the very first owner who was also a freed slave & opened this hotel with his wife Martha (I guess it was a bakery before)
I loved this place so much & please remember that even though b-fast comes with the price of the room, please tip your waitresses ;)
