A bunch of us went here after a friends art showing at the SAM to get the party started. I have been here before to see live music, it's a cool place with a definite saloon vibe, hence the name. This time was for FOOOOOOOOODDDDD!!!! We started with a few Flatliners, awesomeness on a plate y'all! If you don't know what it is just order one and smile with glee as you taste nirvana. Basically it is a large plate of tater tots with 2 melted cheeses, green peppers, onions, bacon and sour cream. Sort of like nachos but tots instead of chips. For my main dish I ordered the bacon cheeseburger and it slayed me. It was big, juicy, full of flavor and perfectly done. The bacon was the thick crispy stuff, not that fatty shriveled up crap you get from lesser joints. I can't remember what everyone else ordered thanks to the steady stream of Rogers Pilsner that flowed easily from glass to mouth but everyone was happy with the food.
Our server/bartender was the shit as well. She was super friendly and had some of that east coast flair that I miss. I have read other reviews talking about bad service, maybe it gets a bit more surly when it's crowded on weekends but we experienced top notch friendly service all the way around. At any rate I want to go back here again soon, thank you Jules Maes for a wonderful evening.
This was a stop over on our boozy Georgetown Saturday to try to get a little food in us. Place was slammed with barely anyone serving and it showed. Waitress didn't even try to put on a happy face...or even a not "I'm so pissed at the world I could scream" face. Ouch.
Plus- no splitting bills over 5 people. We understand the issue & the amount of time it takes, but most inconvenient.
Food & beers were delicious and showed no signs of the hectic service EXCEPT an appetizer our friends ordered for the table that came out way after the meals with charred mushrooms. they were like little nuggets of carbon. No thank you!
We have a lotta love for the 'hood & will be back in the area & will almost definitely be back in the future, but probably not at peak hours.
Jules Maes preserves the old saloon and roadhouse feel better than any place in Seattle, and it's a fitting grandfather to what has clearly become the coolest neighborhood in Seattle.
I've seen many references to Jules Maes being established in 1888 (including the sign shown in some of the photos here) and thus being the oldest bar within the current city limits of Seattle. However it appears to me that this cannot be quite true. The building was constructed in 1898, it was first a saloon in 1907, and it was first leased to Jules Maes in 1936 (Jules attended and/or owned other bars in the area in the early 1900s, but not earlier). Even if one were to grant that the grocery store that first occupied the building qualifies as a "saloon and eatery," I can find no evidence to support the 1888 date.
This does nothing to gainsay the fact that it is a terrific and historic bar. (If anybody knows anything that would alter my opinions above, or is just interested in Seattle's oldest bars, I'd encourage you to check out my posts Repeal Day posts on Seattle Twist (e.g. http://seattletwist.co... )
And by two stars I mean this bar is getting off light! I so wanted to like this bar. When I walked in I could tell it was my kind of place. Decor looks fantastic and so does the menu. Then the waitress took our order and then nothing happened. For like an hour. A second couple joined us and the waitress never came. Our food came out twenty minutes later and somehow was delivered without anyone taking an order from the rest of our party. Finally they got tired of waiting and went to the bar. The food for them eventually came but everything was kinda meh. Waited and waited for the check but finally went to the bar to get it. I know they were slammed, but it was Friday night, put some more people on the schedule. Not even a sorry from the staff. I totally may have just hit it on a bad night and I want to like it so I might try again later
I love the bar so much here that I made my parents check it out while they were in town. I don't know, maybe I've been watching too much Deadwood, but I love the antique furniture, old school wallpaper, random artifacts and dusty dead things hanging on the walls. The light fixtures are awesome too.
The bartenders are completely 21st century though, and so is the menu. Most sandwiches come with your choice of tater tots or fries and I highly suggest the tots. I'm one of those kids who was forced to take a paper sack lunch to school every day, so tots are a special treat.
If I lived in Georgetown, I'd be here all the time.
Went here prior to the Yelp party (we didn't know there would be food at the event) and I have to say - numnumnumnunm.
I LOVE the menu here, I'm salivating thinking about it. I want someone to fill a tub up with their lamb burgers so I can bathe in them. It was TO DIE FOR. My friend ordered that, I had their chicken spinach salad - holy crap, the vinaigrette there is like crack. And not that cheap crack that doesn't get you skinny, I'm talking about the good shi*. I thought the service was great, our waitress was freakin hilarious and brought things to the table QUICK.
I will have great dreams tonight of you lamb burger...dont ever forget me...
I recently had the portobella mushroom with gorgonzola burger.
My soul has been saved.

Yummmaaayyy!!!
I wandered in here last night with friends. We ended up ordering the Flatliner Tots with bacon, cheese, peppers, sour cream... It was mother f-ing awesome. I'm not a huge fan of tater tots but these were deeeeelish! I didn't have a service issue. Lady was nice enough and quick!
The downsides?
IT'S FUCKING HOT IN THERE. I'm a big fan of a/c and it definitely was not gracing me with its presence. We probably would have stayed longer had it not been so hot. A fan, maybe? Something. Anything.
The other thing is that the description for the Flatliner on the menu touts "a GIANT platter" but it was pretty... not giant. I mean, just a regular 'ol round of tots. I was expecting more quantity-wise for $9.
Anyway, go here!
The tater tots were awesome, building is amazing, and the drinks (the fruity ones) were very tasty. The place has a very down to earth feel. Which is odd because the folks at the bar are not.
I think that the wait staff is overworked, and probably not tipped that well given the poor service. I'll let this cycle of bad staff work itself out, and try this place out again in a couple months.
If for no other reason than to try more of the menu, the food is awesome.
Jules Maes is just a G-town standard. Yes, the waitstaff can be rude...they will usually be rude to you for the first five or six times you go there until they get used to you. It's kind of a test...if you can't take it then go back to Belltown or Cap Hill or whatever sorry ass hipster neighborhood you dragged yourself from.
But besides all of that, their chicken fried steak with an ice cold Mannys is the best meal you can find in Seattle. Deal with it!
While my exploration of the bars of Georgetown is, as of yet, incomplete, Jules Maes Saloon is, at this moment, my runaway favorite. My girlfriend and I have made a semi-weekly habit of coming in on Sundays or Mondays right before the kitchen closes and ticking of the cook by ordering last-minute food (in our defense, this is the earliest we can get in) and have yet to have anything that doesn't taste fantastic. The gumbo is great and the lamb burger--if we get there in time for it--is amazing.
It's not just great food, though. The service there is top-notch. Friendly, familiar and welcoming right off the bat. I always enjoy going here and getting some dinner and a beer after work, it can't be beat.
This was where Will's band, Stay Tuned, rocked last night for his 35th birthday. I agree with Rebecca - waitresses: RUDE. Girls, you work for tips for a living...and you DEFINITELY aren't cute enough to do the snarky/rude thing that seems to be pervasive in so many bars now. I stood at the bar for 3 minutes until I heard them talk to each other like I wasn't even there, saying, "He's not getting a drink until he moves over". Apparently I wasn't in the exact spot necessary for placing a drink. Once I moved over, I needed to wait another 3 minutes - mind you, NO other drinks were being served at that moment. Repeat experience when I went to close out my tab. That's 3 stars worth of pissy attitude right there...enough that I can't be bothered to talk about the bar itself.
If it weren't for a UYE there to celebrate Will's 35th, I'd never have gone in there..and won't be back.
The only reason why I showed up was to see the awesome band, Stay Tuned. Don't get me wrong, I am sure this place has potential to be cool but the waitstaff just ruined it for me (for more details read Rebecca L's review). At least the band was great.
Zipzap Zubidy Bop!
It's like overly kitchy old-west, except not on purpose in a cool way like Hula Hula is Hawaiian. It feels random, and dusty. I thought I would sneeze from the sight of things, but was able to stifle it the whole evening.
As others have stated the bartenders were rude as heck. The guy checking IDs and collecting cover at the door was cool, he seemed polite enough, but when last call rolled around and we were still wandering around the bar 20 minutes later one of the bartenders yelled out, "you guys I called last call 20 minutes ago!" I didn't realize that last call meant, "get the hell out," I thought it mean, "last call." She was not in the least way polite about it. I used nasty words to describe her afterwards.
I had only one drink, a PBR, in a can, wicked that they have that, two stars alone for that. If I'd purchased my own drink and tipped them, I would've taken my tip back after how snotty they were later on. I really wished I'd had one of those, "you've been Yelped" cards on hand to slap on the table, but I didn't.
I only went here for Will L's birthday show, and that's the only reason I'd go back.
Let me start by saying this is an incomplete review, as I've had an incomplete experience. I've never been to a show here, but have heard it is a great venue. I'm writing purely in response to my fabulous BLT experience. WOW. I substituted the fries for their special "Cesar Salad" which involved grilled romaine hearts, which you can eat with your hands, which is the way Cesar Salads were originally meant to be eaten (look it up).
I like that there is WiFi and they pump their music loud. Great beers on tap & a SUPER NICE STAFF. A+ to the staff.
Hoping to see a show here soon....until then, the food/drink gets 5 stars.
A Georgetown staple worthy of the trek.

This past year we have had alot of out of town guests. Some have been international travelers. Now while you may think that means taking them to some fancy Northwest restaurant, it does not. In fact, this is the place we have taken every out of town visitor to in the past year. For true American food, done right, not expensive, creative and good. Our friend from Korea had to have the chicken fried steak, he had never heard of it before. A friend from LA raves about the lamb burger to this day. A very petitie friend from Reno and I ate 2 plates of tater tots - the kind with the cheese and bacon. And tonight, we are bringing friends from Japan for some burgers.
The beer is awesome, the staff outrageous, and the food is real. And, it's in Georgetown. I remember Jules Mae when it was a smoky old logging and Boeing worker bar years ago. Loved it then, love it now. There are not many places in Seattle that have made the transition that Jules Mae has and been able to keep the original feel in place. Love it.
This place is just awesome. Apparently it's the oldest bar in Seattle, having been established way back in 1888. That's a year before Washington was a state, people! And like many buildings built during this time, the upstairs housed a brothel. Neat, right?
All history aside, Jules Maes is just a great saloon. It has that dark, musky feel that I love, all outfitted in art deco light fixtures, dark wood, and a tin ceiling to top it all off. It's a little eclectic, a little old-west, but it's very Georgetown.
I've only been here once, but I had a great experience here. But I was driving that night, so I wasn't able to drink. So I can't review that for you. But I can vouch for the food and the service.
Our waitress was so awesome, that I'm surprised at all the negative reviews regarding the service at Jules Maes. When one of the guys in our group got some heartburn, she took some antacids out of her own purse to give to him! Not rude in the least.
The food was great, as well. I had the BLT and the chocolate cake. The bacon in my sandwich was thick and peppery-delicious, and the cake was dense and chocolatey. I've also heard good things about the lamb burger and the huckleberry salad.
I hope to go back soon! I just hope I don't encounter any of this bad service all y'all are talking about. It would tarnish my near-perfect image of Jules Maes :(
Very. Favorite. Bar. Ever. Oh, how I miss you, Jules Mae!
Now that I don't live in Georgetown anymore, I can't be a daily fixture at the bar. But that doesn't mean that I don't THINK of you every day!
Yummy food, great beers, BEST fruit/vodka beverages ever! (juicy juice squeezed fresh by those loving bartender hands!)
But my very very very favorite thing about Jules Mae is the servers. Especially that BALD CHICK. She rocks, and there's not a bartender in town that compares to her. She's funny, she's honest, and she knows how to serve a whole bar during a rush without - gawd forbid! - pissing off too many jackasses that expect handmaiden service. Please, Hefe, can't you move your cute skinny little a$$ to a bar in my new neighborhood???
I miss you, tots, I miss you lamb burger, I miss you, kick-a$$ grilled cheese, I miss you grapefruit & vodka. But most of all, I miss HEFE! Can you please come serve me NOW? =)
Great corned beef hash for lunch today! My friend had a kick-ass tater tot and egg and meat and cheese concoction and my other pal had an amazing burger and fries. We will be back. We had great service and the bartender went out of her way for us. Maybe the secret to good service is to be nice and to be patient when they are busy.
I always seem to end up in the rear room of this place that seems like the rec room of an immortal psychopath. There's a ton of weird stuff back here, Highlander.
There always seems to be something happening here. Something weird.
The front is your average bar. It didn't register with me at all, so think vanilla old west.
I've seen a handful of shows here and really love the layout, if the intent is to listen to some live music. My roommates band member plays at Jules Maes once in a while with his other band and he says that the owners are pretty cool and staff is always helpful. I think it's cool to hear that sort of feedback from a group using the place as a venue for their show.
I do find their selections of beer to be standard and pretty limited. The food is good, average and edible but nothing to really call out and speak for. I've really never notice a handful of regulars either.
Come in and enjoy a show, they've usually got some really great bands in and I've know at least 3 bands personally who've played here that really vouch for the joint as a music venue.
Going to Jules Maes is going to Seattle. Not "high-rise, urban sprawl, half a million for a two bed one bath house, steadily increasing population" Seattle, but REAL Seattle. If you didn't have the pleasure of being here in the early nineties, go to Georgetown one evening and you'll get it. It was a blast from the past, in the best possible sense. This area, and this establishment in particular, evoke such nostalgia it's tangible. It makes me feel like I've gone home.
Okay, romanticism aside, the food, drinks and service were excellent! Had sandwiches (his chicken, mine portabello), and they were mighty fine. And the tots...these tots may just be the King of All Tots in Seattle. Wonderful beer selection - lots of Georgetown on the taps of course!
Dessert was fantastic. We had a Bailey's cheesecake with a chocolate cookie crust, which is made at nearby Savoy. Oh. Mah. Goodness. Quite possibly the best cheesecake I've ever had. It disappeared very quickly! Apparently the gentleman who bakes these confections makes them something different every evening, and they're always suburb.
All of these delectable treats and libations were served by a smiling, friendly, funny waitress. The staff here are the kind of people you could have an actual conversation with, and I love that.
Growing up in a city that seems to tear down old and put up new too often for my delicate sensibilities, Georgetown, and Jules Maes, make my heart happy. I hope they're there for another hundred years!
I want so much to love this place, but it seems impossible.
They absolutely refuse to staff up for the amount of business they get, I have been here many many times, with twenty or thirty people in the room on a weekday, and they will only have ONE person who is acting as waitress/bartender. You get to see her once every thirty minutes, so you better have your order ready, and if you ask for water three or four times, well, you don't really need that, do you?
Seriously I do love the GTOWN!
I appreciate the sassy wait staff and I love the food and beer. I get the grilled cheese with tomato basil and a 9lb... can not go wrong. I like dropping by for a quick punk show every once in a while. We often having little impromptu parties there after work and they are always accommodating. We just let them know to keep the tots coming!
Jules Mae is classic Georgetown.
Who knew that this little pocket of Georgetown had so much flavor? We went there on a warm day in Seattle which made the inside *hot*. Be warmed that this old building does not have a/c. Other than that, the drinks were plenty and quick and the food was quite good for bar food. The portabello gorgonzola sandwich was great as were the fries and salad. The shrimp po'boy sandwich had too much bread but the filling was tasty. Other folks at the table loved the tots (don't put them in your pocket!) and the grilled cheese looked like greasy food goodness. I ended up dancing to 80's music at Mix a few doors down with our waitress so, hell, I like this place.
You can't want Jules Maes to be something it's not. I agree with all those that say how quintessentially Georgetown it is, how the sassy-smart staff will give you shit (but not shitty service) until they're your favorite in the city. It pays to become a regular here. Plus the beer selection is great, the wells are cheap and the menu is delightfully schizophrenically (really, bacon-wrapped prawns and tater tots?) tasty.
I felt virginesque being tattooless here. I kinda like feeling virginesque. Took me back to a place I hadn't been in awhile. I was also a wee bit overdressed as I just came from a dance recital and was it stilettos and a dress.
I also felt incredibly full off this amazing salmon burger. It was like a crabcake but salmon and had oyster sauce on it. I had the fries but can't wait to try the tots. The tot sauce is freaking good! So good you may have to stop yourself from eating it with a spoon. Mark had the Lamb burger and damn that was good too. They don't kid you with the size of this. Plus they have Blue Moon on tap. Doesn't get much better then that when you are eating burgers.
Great people watching. The crowd from art attack made me feel free pretty, clean and hairless (in the places women shouldn't have hair.) Kudos to Jules Maes for good food and a stroke for the ego
The owner must be deleting bad reviews. The waitresses are rude and the BALD WOMAN BARTENDER is an evil b!tch who goes out of her way to try to start a fight - yes, she pimps customers to get them to engage in an argument - so she can get a little personal DOM 'gasm and feel superior and tell them to leave. I've watched her in action and she's a work to behold. Several of the waitresses are rude too and you would have been able to read all about the total b!tchiness and all about the total-fukkwad BALD WOMAN bartender but several dozen posts have been deleted from this site.
PS: 57 reviews today... twice that number (all bad) six month s ago. I assume the owner is pulling this stunt. A personal heartfelt message to the owner - you obviously dont give a sh!t how badly you treat other people - I hope to GOD you go out of business and the sooner the better.
i was having a good time, but the waitresses there are pretty... lame. i'm sorry. i don't mean to bash, but they were outright rude to our party and am happy to say that i don't think i will ever go to this place again. When my friend waived one of the waitress down so she could close her tab, the waitress came over told her, "waiving won't work." my friend, being the sweet girl that she is said, "oh, well then, hi!" the waitress reply, "being nice won't work either." she then went away, served three other people before even coming back to close her tab. that's just rude. Then one of my other friends came and forgot her ID. while we were saying good bye the waitress came over and yelled at us saying, "she needs to leave NOW!" woah, i'm sorry. we were just saying good bye. sheesh.
they never came by to get our orders. they didn't know how to make mixed drinks and were overall... rude.
yes, the food may be decent and yes there might be a great band playing, but the service blows. i wouldn't be surprised to find out that they spit in people's food. this is definitely a place i will not patronize again nor would i recommend it to anyone.
3.5 stars.
Dropped by last night for a show. Rumor had it some super kick-ass, world famous, hairy chested rock stars were opening last night. Every so often rumors are true! Great show by Stay Tuned.
The route driven there made this northend girl feel like she was in a foreign country for awhile. Georgetown still does that to me. When we pulled up and I found a place to park, the world seemed right. The power of the Truck Jam lives on, as I got the exact same spot I had that night at the 9lb hammer. Ahhh...I know where I am!
I liked this place, the layout was good. The bartender lady was very cool and poured a quick drink. My LIT was not nearly as potent here as it was at Barca, but it did the trick.
Plenty of seating, pool table in a room in the back, then off to the show!
Nice sized room and it is set up that you can hear the music throughout the bar, but the volume is controlled if you are out front.
Good times all around. I even managed to coordinate my boobie shirt w/ that of a band member. freaky.
Sometimes you gotta be responsible and do shit you're supposed to do.
Like wake up, get up, drag ass out of bed, and say hi to the world. Tater tots help. Read on, dear tater-tot lover, read on.
March 15th, 2008 -- the official unofficial St. Patty's Day -- was one of those days.
March 15th started for me at 12am. I was still at the Showbox, enjoying my birthday after opening up for Superdiamond and basking in the adoration of 1200 people who like Neil Diamond AND the Golden Girls.
It continued on at 2am after I got my shit loaded and entertained a group of ... well... groupies from out of town, showing them that a good time was NOT to be had at the Lusty Lady, but WAS to be had at the Noc Noc.
March 15th took a break at 5am, but it was like a rowdy water cooler break where you can hear your coworkers cracking jokes and being obnoxious from your desk and all you want to do is go join in.
March 15th continued at about 1pm when I finally gave up on sleeping and started tanking up on coffee and eggs at Geraldine's. It started treating me a little better. I could still feel all my limbs. My dog was happy I was walking him.
And then I headed out for what I was supposed to be doing that day: Rocking out Jules Mae with the Squirrels. Yeah. They're the Squirrels. We're the Nuts.
March 15th officially got back to business at 5pm, when I got to Jules Mae. I collapsed into a stool and the bar staff immediately started chatting with me, friendly like. Fucking a. I like friendly bar-staff.
I had a BLT. Sarah, the bartender who was paying extra special attention to me probably because she could tell that at any minute I was going to fall out of that stool totally unconscious, told me that Jules Mae's bacon "kicked ass." I believe bartenders when they tell me something kicks ass.
I suddenly realized that... lo and behold... TATER TOTS INSTEAD OF FRIES? I perked up. I looked at my watch.
March 15th, 5:48pm, suddenly started to click and hum. I felt my back muscles relax. I sat up a little straighter. My eyelids opened a little wider. My hands flexed. My nipples hardened. Tater tots. Tater tots within easy driving distance. I don't have to head all the way downtown for tater tots. They have them in my next-door neighborhood of Georgetown. Tater Tots. Those luscious cylinders of hashed potatoes, fried to perfection, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Salty. The only thing that could make them better is cheese. I didn't dare ask.
My BLT came with my tater tots. They even handed me some ketchup. KETCHUP. WITH MY TATER TOTS! THANK YOU JESUS.
Sarah asked me how was my food?
"@$ELFAMNLA:WLK:" I replied, bits of fried potato-ey goodness spraying onto my plate. All I could think is, "Fuck I just wasted some of my tater tots."
They were spiced, seasoned, whatever-you-call-it. Not just salt. There was some other magical goodness sprinkled on there. Not cheese, but still fucking good.
I took a picture and sent it to my yelper-tater-tot-partner-in-crime. I had to commemorate the moment.
March 15th, 8:59pm. Our equipment set up, our sound checked, I wandered through the bar with a bullhorn and announced we were playing. People stared at me. I knew the feeling. They had Tater-Tots. To hell with the band. SEASONED TATER TOTS MAN!
We got on stage, played our set. People finished their tots and came out and cheered. I think. The light was blinding and I have no idea if anyone really was out there or if the sound guy just had canned applause because he knew everyone was addicted to their tots.
March 15th, 10pm, I outloaded my crap to my car. I grabbed my gal-pal around her lovely little waist. I tried to imagine staying awake for a few hours longer.
March 16th, 1pm. I found myself at home. I was awake. I sure as shit wasn't getting up. Thanks Jules Mae, for the cokes, the friendly banter, the blinding lights, the easy load-in/out, and most of all, the tots.
Jules Maes Saloon, A great little place for lunch, I haven't experienced the night life in Georgetown yet, but this place for lunch is one of Georgetown's better choices. My god they serve tater tots! TATER TOTS people, that is reason enough to go anywhere. The meatloaf sandwich is awesome, well everything I've had there is awesome.
My only real hang up is is you are in a hurry to get somewhere the arrival of the check often does get delayed. and this is a quirk of Georgetown I've had this experience at Smarty Pants, Stellar's pizza, and here. it can be annoying if you are on lunch during the working day.
Tater tots though.... ok four stars
I feel very shorted that I worked in Georgetown for a year and a half, and never got here til last weekend. This is a fun little place and actually a really good venue to watch a show at.
You walk in and you're immediately immersed in a quaint, old time pub feel. The got a full bar and Guinness on tap, I was a happy camper! :o)
If you keep walking toward the back, you pass bathrooms to your left, a pooltable to your right, and then you walk straight into a good size venue for shows with ample room for people to watch and dance, an elevated stage for the band to rock out on, and it's tucked away, so you can be out in the bar and can still carry on a conversation.
I didn't get to try the food, but it looked good, and I hope to be back at some point to try it.
Now that I'm getting to know Georgetown a little better it's becoming clear that Jules Maes is really the center of this ever expanding little business district. I've tried a couple of other places around here recently but none of them offer the value that 'Maes does, with great beer, food, entertainment and music all in one place it's hard to leave it during a Georgetown pub crawl.
I took a friend here the other night and we were gratified to see local microbrews on tap including a seasonal ale from Maritime, and we noticed a full bar as well. Our server (is that Madam Miss Funi from the Bad Things?!!) was friendly and sassy which seemed to go along with the laid back vibe and clientele. We loved the old legacy wood bar too, which reeks of history and gives the place a lived in feel. Booths and tables never got overly crowded either, even on a Friday night which keeps the noise level perfect for tipsy, rambling conversations.
Jules Maes also serves a pub style menu and we had, drum-roll please...THE BEST BAR FOOD IN SEATTLE: Deep fried portabella mushroom strips, drizzled in Chipotle mayo. This goes right up in the Pantheon of Fried Delicacies with the Cajun Tots at the Six Arms and the Fried Pickle at Feierabend (formerly the title holder). I'll have to come back and try something else but the portions we saw at other tables seemed right for the moderate price.
Once we were done with the food we were going to move on, but realized that a show was playing on the micro-stage in the back, and it turned out to be a surprisingly good 3 piece that had us transfixed for the next 30 minutes. There's no seating in the show area, so if you're pooped you can always return to the bar for a spell, but the set lengths seem to be pretty manageable.
Pub crawl, Shmub crawl...Jules Maes has it all.
The husband and I stopped in here while attending the Georgetown Art Attack.
Atmosphere is very casual and relaxed, which we liked.
Husband got the grilled cheese with tomato soup. When he realized the tomato soup was filled with onions, to which he is allergic, they subbed a side of tator tots with no problems.
I had the chicken cheesesteak. Filling was fine, if not great. The bread overwhelmed the filling and I ended up not eating most of it (the bread, that is). There were more fries on my plate than I could have possibly eaten in a sitting. This was not a bad thing.
One complaint: The menu does not include the prices for the alcohol selections. I don't like this. I like to know how much I am paying for what I ordered. (I had a glass of wine and husband had a bottle of cider.)
Service was fine. Our waitperson had a lot of tables to worry about, but still provided good, efficient service. Food was fine, but not anything we'd go running back for. In short, we're not sorry we stopped in. BUT, with so many other choices in Georgetown, probably not somewhere we'd go running back to.
The place was great.
The location is not really strategic.
The interior was better than most saloon I've been.
The menu is short, simple, and convincing
The food was great!
the service was blah!
The experience was definitely pleasant and fun.
I'll definitely come back.
What's that in the distance? An old time saloon? They serve alcohol, right? Okay, let's check it out.

If I lived closer I'd drink here every Friday night. Maybe Saturday too. Sunday is a definite possibility. Yeah, this place has character.
Ended up at this place Friday night with some friends.
Started off having food in the main dining area. Great food, pretty good service (they were starting to get quite busy), and super fast turn around. How quick we got our food was impressive.
Then we migrated to what I shall call the game room. They had a pool table, 4 pinball machines, and skee-ball! I love skee-ball. Though, the place broke my heart because the machine was out of service. Apparently it's normally working and had just broken down earlier that day -- I had to check because finding skee-ball I can play while drunk will definitely make me return.
We capped off the evening by wandering into the "show room." There was a live band playing and a handful of people enjoying it. It's a tiny little venue but it was nice to be in a place with decent loud music. Though when you sit in the dining room, the music isn't that loud at all.
It was a great place and almost like going to 3 bars in one. I like a place where I can bar hop by simply wandering from room to room!
It's a mighty pain in the ass to find, but it's definately worth the trip.
Jules May Saloon is an old watering hole that's been around since the late 1800's. Not a lot has changed since then as far as the decor goes, and that's a good thing. As a matter of fact the building across the street is in the midst of being torn down so it creates a great contrast between the town's old roots and it's resurgence today. As far as the menu goes, it's typical bar food: burgers, fries, sandwiches, salads, etc. Nothing spectacular, but the food is well prepared. Great drinks as well and a very cool vibe to boot, a rare achievement.
The best part about this place is the back room where live music takes place. My band played here recently and I gotta say the sound is incredible. Hopefully we'll get to play this place again in the near future.
They do lose one star because the back room is strangely tucked away from the rest of the place. You can't sit down and eat to experience a live band. You have to get up, walk all the way to the back, and stand in the back room. It's a little awkward.
My friend wanted me to join him to see a show here.... I wasn't feeling it though, and have never been here. How did he get me to change my mind? He told me it's like something out of a David Lynch film. After telling me that he asked if I wanted to go... Does the Pope shit in the woods? Fuck yeah I'll go.
It's not like something out of a Lynch film. But it's not bad. There are some nice games (Love me some old school pinball) to play in the back. There is a little cozy intimate venue for live music (smaller than the Jewel Box) and food. Oh, and beer. Glorious beer and hard alcohol at good prices. If you go, you have to play some games, and have some tater tots. Best tater tots in Seattle. Plus, since it's in Georgetown, you can make yourself comfortable and drink all night there... No need to barhop (except maybe the Hammer)
