Neighborhood: GeorgetownI went here after a beer tasting at Full Throttle. This bar is old school, for sure. Old wood bar, big giant benches and I loved it! For once, it was nice to go somewhere you didn't have to feel gussied up or deal with douchebags! I was having a day where I needed comfort food, and the grilled cheese with tater tots, add mustard and ketchup.. perfect. That was until I tried my friends tartar sauce. YUM. Perfect. I was having a tough day and the waitress calling me beautiful made me a feel a bit better. I will definitely come back!

I felt virginesque being tattooless here. I kinda like feeling virginesque. Took me back to a place I hadn't been in awhile. I was also a wee bit overdressed as I just came from a dance recital and was it stilettos and a dress.
I also felt incredibly full off this amazing salmon burger. It was like a crabcake but salmon and had oyster sauce on it. I had the fries but can't wait to try the tots. The tot sauce is freaking good! So good you may have to stop yourself from eating it with a spoon. Mark had the Lamb burger and damn that was good too. They don't kid you with the size of this. Plus they have Blue Moon on tap. Doesn't get much better then that when you are eating burgers.
Great people watching. The crowd from art attack made me feel free pretty, clean and hairless (in the places women shouldn't have hair.) Kudos to Jules Maes for good food and a stroke for the ego

Home away from home. I love this place. The whole staff here is incredible! I love me some grilled cheese with tots and a screwdriver with fresh squeezed OJ. Everything i've had on the menu is delish!
I've only been here for lunch, but man oh man...was it good! Best damn tater tots in the entire world! Entire universe, for that matter. Plus, I had the lamb burger, which was amazing. AMAZING! Okay, I'm writing this while hungry...must go now.

Bacon wrapped prawns and four great pin's in the game room. The highlight here is Cactus Canyon; one of our favorite games! The gun fight feature is just so much fun!
3.5 stars.
Dropped by last night for a show. Rumor had it some super kick-ass, world famous, hairy chested rock stars were opening last night. Every so often rumors are true! Great show by Stay Tuned.
The route driven there made this northend girl feel like she was in a foreign country for awhile. Georgetown still does that to me. When we pulled up and I found a place to park, the world seemed right. The power of the Truck Jam lives on, as I got the exact same spot I had that night at the 9lb hammer. Ahhh...I know where I am!
I liked this place, the layout was good. The bartender lady was very cool and poured a quick drink. My LIT was not nearly as potent here as it was at Barca, but it did the trick.
Plenty of seating, pool table in a room in the back, then off to the show!
Nice sized room and it is set up that you can hear the music throughout the bar, but the volume is controlled if you are out front.
Good times all around. I even managed to coordinate my boobie shirt w/ that of a band member. freaky.

Sometimes you gotta be responsible and do shit you're supposed to do.
Like wake up, get up, drag ass out of bed, and say hi to the world. Tater tots help. Read on, dear tater-tot lover, read on.
March 15th, 2008 -- the official unofficial St. Patty's Day -- was one of those days.
March 15th started for me at 12am. I was still at the Showbox, enjoying my birthday after opening up for Superdiamond and basking in the adoration of 1200 people who like Neil Diamond AND the Golden Girls.
It continued on at 2am after I got my shit loaded and entertained a group of ... well... groupies from out of town, showing them that a good time was NOT to be had at the Lusty Lady, but WAS to be had at the Noc Noc.
March 15th took a break at 5am, but it was like a rowdy water cooler break where you can hear your coworkers cracking jokes and being obnoxious from your desk and all you want to do is go join in.
March 15th continued at about 1pm when I finally gave up on sleeping and started tanking up on coffee and eggs at Geraldine's. It started treating me a little better. I could still feel all my limbs. My dog was happy I was walking him.
And then I headed out for what I was supposed to be doing that day: Rocking out Jules Mae with the Squirrels. Yeah. They're the Squirrels. We're the Nuts.
March 15th officially got back to business at 5pm, when I got to Jules Mae. I collapsed into a stool and the bar staff immediately started chatting with me, friendly like. Fucking a. I like friendly bar-staff.
I had a BLT. Sarah, the bartender who was paying extra special attention to me probably because she could tell that at any minute I was going to fall out of that stool totally unconscious, told me that Jules Mae's bacon "kicked ass." I believe bartenders when they tell me something kicks ass.
I suddenly realized that... lo and behold... TATER TOTS INSTEAD OF FRIES? I perked up. I looked at my watch.
March 15th, 5:48pm, suddenly started to click and hum. I felt my back muscles relax. I sat up a little straighter. My eyelids opened a little wider. My hands flexed. My nipples hardened. Tater tots. Tater tots within easy driving distance. I don't have to head all the way downtown for tater tots. They have them in my next-door neighborhood of Georgetown. Tater Tots. Those luscious cylinders of hashed potatoes, fried to perfection, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Salty. The only thing that could make them better is cheese. I didn't dare ask.
My BLT came with my tater tots. They even handed me some ketchup. KETCHUP. WITH MY TATER TOTS! THANK YOU JESUS.
Sarah asked me how was my food?
"@$ELFAMNLA:WLK:" I replied, bits of fried potato-ey goodness spraying onto my plate. All I could think is, "Fuck I just wasted some of my tater tots."
They were spiced, seasoned, whatever-you-call-it. Not just salt. There was some other magical goodness sprinkled on there. Not cheese, but still fucking good.
I took a picture and sent it to my yelper-tater-tot-partner-in-crime. I had to commemorate the moment.
March 15th, 8:59pm. Our equipment set up, our sound checked, I wandered through the bar with a bullhorn and announced we were playing. People stared at me. I knew the feeling. They had Tater-Tots. To hell with the band. SEASONED TATER TOTS MAN!
We got on stage, played our set. People finished their tots and came out and cheered. I think. The light was blinding and I have no idea if anyone really was out there or if the sound guy just had canned applause because he knew everyone was addicted to their tots.
March 15th, 10pm, I outloaded my crap to my car. I grabbed my gal-pal around her lovely little waist. I tried to imagine staying awake for a few hours longer.
March 16th, 1pm. I found myself at home. I was awake. I sure as shit wasn't getting up. Thanks Jules Mae, for the cokes, the friendly banter, the blinding lights, the easy load-in/out, and most of all, the tots.

I feel very shorted that I worked in Georgetown for a year and a half, and never got here til last weekend. This is a fun little place and actually a really good venue to watch a show at.
You walk in and you're immediately immersed in a quaint, old time pub feel. The got a full bar and Guinness on tap, I was a happy camper! :o)
If you keep walking toward the back, you pass bathrooms to your left, a pooltable to your right, and then you walk straight into a good size venue for shows with ample room for people to watch and dance, an elevated stage for the band to rock out on, and it's tucked away, so you can be out in the bar and can still carry on a conversation.
I didn't get to try the food, but it looked good, and I hope to be back at some point to try it.

I was in there the other nite and some short haired punk rocker chick waited on me. The place was slammed and she was funny, sassy and gave me the best service I've ever had thrown in my face. I was hungry so I took her recommendation of the lamb burger add bacon w there hand cut French fries. The food was exceptionally good and the drinks were prompt. I'll be back as long as she's there.
Now this is my kinda place! Great music, cheap-ish pool table, pinball machines and 1 skee-ball table. You can chill at the bar to grab some grub out front, or check out a band in the back. Parking is typically easy to find. Great place for rockabilly or old timey country fans. I walked in the first time and heard Deke Dickerson on the house music box, so I was pleased. Throw some grease in your hair and get on over!
Cheap PBR & great Rockabilly music! Woohoo! Awesome old wood bar too....makes me feel like I'm in another time.

Walk into Jules Mae and (especially at lunch) you feel like you discovered some buried treasure of wonderfulness hidden cleverly in Georgetown, where only those who dare to venture deserve to enjoy.
Yet another reason to love Gtown. The food is AMAZING. The grilled chipotle ceaser ordered with prawn skewers on top can't be beat, anywhere!
Burgers are amazing, service is awesome.

I'm so spoiled due to Jules Maes.. It's harder and harder for me to go anywhere else. The oldest bar in Seattle and I heard this place is haunted.. Funny as I feel so comfortable and cozy here!
Pro's:
-Decor and the staff jukebox playin Johnny Cash, the Damned, the Ramones and more.. always good tunes.
-Strong drinks and good beer options
-Fresh Juice press for the cocktail! I gotta have fresh lime.
-Great Bar Food: Pork chops, the portabella mushroom burger is the best! TOTS: yummiest tots in the city!
-Staff is killer even when it is busy, they don't miss a beat!
-Pinball, pool and bands, what else do you need out of a place?
Downfalls:
Can't think of any.. I just hope any new contruction across the street does not hurt the vibe.

Only complaint I had is that there was this huge boulder laying in the middle of the parking lot, which was dimly lit, if lit at all, and my car drove over it. So, we had to jack my car up and maneuver the boulder out. Was I really rating this place at all, or just sharing an experience???
Other than that, I was there to check out a band. I liked the venue, seemed fitting, big with the actual stage separated from the bar area.
Over the past few years, I've been to Jules Maes many times, and what I first though of as a decent place with good beer, just kept getting better and better.
First off, the layout of this place is great. Front bar seating and pool tables as you enter, a 'mid-room' with some old school arcade action, and a neatly tucked-away live music stage in the back. It's unique layout really typifies the unique people who pass through on a given weekend night.
Good beer, good service--nothing extraordinary. Then....then they started offering food a year ago. Excellent choice. The food here really is what forces me to offer up a fifth star. This place really has it all, and has become that much more popular as a result. If you're in the G'town area, definitely be sure to stop in here for a few beers and some grubs.

Ended up at this place Friday night with some friends.
Started off having food in the main dining area. Great food, pretty good service (they were starting to get quite busy), and super fast turn around. How quick we got our food was impressive.
Then we migrated to what I shall call the game room. They had a pool table, 4 pinball machines, and skee-ball! I love skee-ball. Though, the place broke my heart because the machine was out of service. Apparently it's normally working and had just broken down earlier that day -- I had to check because finding skee-ball I can play while drunk will definitely make me return.
We capped off the evening by wandering into the "show room." There was a live band playing and a handful of people enjoying it. It's a tiny little venue but it was nice to be in a place with decent loud music. Though when you sit in the dining room, the music isn't that loud at all.
It was a great place and almost like going to 3 bars in one. I like a place where I can bar hop by simply wandering from room to room!

What's that in the distance? An old time saloon? They serve alcohol, right? Okay, let's check it out.
Good Beer: +1 star

Live Shake the Shack Broadcasts with The Proctologist of Rock & Roll Leon Berman every couple of months: +1 star
If I lived closer I'd drink here every Friday night. Maybe Saturday too. Sunday is a definite possibility. Yeah, this place has character.

My friend wanted me to join him to see a show here.... I wasn't feeling it though, and have never been here. How did he get me to change my mind? He told me it's like something out of a David Lynch film. After telling me that he asked if I wanted to go... Does the Pope shit in the woods? Fuck yeah I'll go.
It's not like something out of a Lynch film. But it's not bad. There are some nice games (Love me some old school pinball) to play in the back. There is a little cozy intimate venue for live music (smaller than the Jewel Box) and food. Oh, and beer. Glorious beer and hard alcohol at good prices. If you go, you have to play some games, and have some tater tots. Best tater tots in Seattle. Plus, since it's in Georgetown, you can make yourself comfortable and drink all night there... No need to barhop (except maybe the Hammer)

I will admit I am a little crazed about the pinball, so there is a dash of bias here. They have the lighting about right, many fine beers, decent food (nary a hotdog on the menu + righteous chicken fried steak), a crapload of space, and a cozy sideyard. I have had many a pint and plate here, but I'm drawn from my cozy home mostly by the well-maintained pinball machines in back. They are all working, clean, and diverse, which isn't easy to pull off. If pinball isn't your thing, the pool table is in excellent condition as well.
You could gripe that they don't have enough servers (often seems like one for the whole place), but they don't bat an eye if you order food at the bar and point out your table. That works really well, but if you are shy and sitting at your table waiting for Godot, you might get testy.

Yummy food and drinks, service can be a little slow.
Sweet. I've finally been to the Tin Hat's sister bar, and though it's in an extremely inconvenient location, the bar itself is even cooler than The Tin Hat. Severed animal heads all over the place; a old-timey Saloon look and feel to the entire place; and plus, they've got a back room with a stage, as well as a room with four pinball machines, an old tabletop arcade machine, and a pool table.
It was a heart-tugger to walk into this place and recognize the same employees that are always slinging alcohol and records up at the Tin Hat. I also took a walk around the neighborhood and was raped by an angry man who demanded to have my shoes! Ha ha! Life!

I finally made it to this highly praised bar after an event at Fantagraphics (which is stumbling distance away).
I admit to rarely leaving Capitol Hill. I know it's a flaw, but as I am car-less and lazy and snobby, I very rarely have a reason to leave the Hill. Yes, it was my love of comics that brought be to Jules Maes, but it's the pinball and pretty sconces in the bathroom and the laid-back attitude of this bar that will break me free from the holier-than-thou grip of Capitol Hill. It was nice to have a bar full of patrons that were there to drink and hang out with friends and shoot some pool rather than show off their latest off-the-shoulder "find" from Urban Outfitters while getting tossed from PBR that will go straight to their hips and force them to stop wearing skinny pants (one can hope, right?).
My one problem was that a house vodka martini was $6. That's quite a bit to drink something that would taste like rubbing alcohol was it not for the olive juice (I like 'em dirty).

A classic true saloon. If a band is playing here, you know it's going to be a rockin show. The atmosphere is chill. I love that they kept their dirty charm when they remodeled. You can almost picture this place being a brothel in an old Western. Palatable enough for those who "dare" to visit Georgetown. Myself? I love me some Georgetown. As the saying goes, Georgetown...It's not just for hookers anymore.

This is a hot rod, motorcycle, rockabilly bar and it's just about the oldest bar in Seattle. Martha of Shorty's retromodeled it and did a fine job...it looks like an "Old Timey Saloon", which is what it is. I think the guys from The Tin Hat own it now...if you don't like Johnny Cash, don't come in. You either love it, or you don't. I love it.

Grab a beer, you're in a plush saloon.
Jules Maes Saloon makes me want to wear a petticoat over my jeans. I think that would fit the vibe of this place just fine.
I think that will be my new outfit of choice while I'm playing pinball here.
Jules Maes is one of my favorite bars in seattle. . .it's spaceous yet cozy and the scene isn't oppresive or dominate. It has that hipster/honky tonk/working man vibe and I just wish it wasn't so far away from me on Cap Hill.

The second coolest bar in Seattle. I prefer the Tin Hat (http://www.yelp.com/bi...) but this is a close second. Two stages, pool, pinball, cheap beer and a rockabilly/punk/hipster vibe. The only thing that sucks (for me at least) is the location.

So I was wandering around Seattle watching the condos erupt out of the mulch of coffee houses, record stores and bars that used to be my haunting grounds. What happened to the industrial cool of the Seattle I loved? Where were the opera loving motorcycle mechanics and med student barristas?
Apparently the people of Georgetown have created for themselves an enclave of artisans and crafts-people that defies the rapid Homogenization besetting the rest of Seattle.
Hemmed in by freeway on ramps and the four block long, four story high, red brick leviathan of the Georgetown Brew House; Georgetown has a secret garden quality, as if time moves in rare directions here.
For literally a bend an industrial access road there are three bars, two motorcycle repair shops, the funkiest record store ever, a coffee shop, a bakery, a vespa shop and numerous workshops thrive amid brightly painted engines of ancient industry.
The first thing you notice about Jules Maes is the ever-present tributes to Johnny Cash. No matter where you look, some picture, saying or adornment pays homage to the man in black. The rest of the decor is fifties western with darkly varnished columns framing the back bar. Picnic tables take up the center of the large main room with booths along the opposite wall. There are pool tables and pinball machines in the brightly lit back room with a separate, large music venue next to it.
I sat at the bar and talked to the effervescent bartender (who I want to say was named Angela, but I was three beers in by the time I asked her so it's really anybodies guess) In any case she was pleasant and helpful the whole time.
The bar was well stocked and featured several Georgetown Brewery's beers (like Manny's and Chopper Ales). Liquor-wise Jules Maes stocks the standards. No real surprises but you should be able to get your drink on in style.
The menu was pure Seattle hippie comfort food. Appetizers included: tater tots, hummus, and sauteed portabella mushrooms. Entrees ran toward country fried steak in a fennel cream gravy, a portabella mushroom sandwich, burgers and fish and chips.
I had the meatloaf sandwich with home-made barbecue sauce, and the soup of the day which was a rosemary vegetable stew.
What separated the meatloaf sandwich from the rest of the herd was the barbecue sauce. It was rich and zesty, perfectly mixing tangy and spicy flavors. If i had known I would have skipped the stew and had a cup of the sauce. The sandwich came with house-cut shoestring fries.
Not that the stew was hard on the palette. Creamy and thick, the rosemary dominated the other vegetable flavors.
I was tempted by (Angela?) with a slice of sour cream chocolate cake, which I declined with only the barest wistful sigh.
The whole thing was pretty cheap considering the amount of beer I swilled. It was mostly because of the swilling that I didn't stay for the bands (local talent) that I'm given to understand is an almost nightly occurrence.
As I stood at the bus stop, swaying slightly in the alcoholic current, I bid a fond farewell to Georgetown; my new hide-out.

You know, I've heard about this bar, but after stopping in
the other night I wasn't terribly impressed. It's nice, and
kind of cozy but I didn't like the crowd, or the drink quality.
They do have some nifty retro games here, which is always fun.
