So first things first, the door totally threw me off - it's this huge metal monstrosity with a squeaky wheel.
But aside from that, this place was recommended to me by a good friend who showed up at school one day with the most fabulous bangs ever seen.  So I bravely scheduled an appointment the day of my senior pictures, thinking that the wash and dry would leave me with perfect hair.  Not so much.

Carmi cut my hair, and the cut itself was pretty good (and since then has grown out very nicely).  She listened to me talk about how I normally style my hair and cut accordingly.  My biggest dislike however was the blow-dry.  My hair is of the temperamental sort, so I love going to get my hair done and leaving with that salon finish.  But I left Judy Jetson's with a frizzy untamed mass of ick with too-short bangs.

I might go back and try another stylist because the place itself is terrific, but I wasn't happy when I left last time.

After the worst haircut I've ever received went down at Mizu I tried to live with it for a few weeks. Finally I just couldn't take it and made an appointment at Judy Jetson (on my birthday no less!) to get this hot mess fixed.

I was scheduled with Danielle and she was great. I explained how I'd been butchered, where it had grown out at that point, and what I'd like it to look like. She fixed every mistake and really listened to what I said. My hair looks like a zillion bucks now, completely healthy with great movement. Danielle was such an awesome person to sit with and chat with too. I would go back any time. My only regret is that I didn't go and get it fixed sooner!

Also, price? Is SO REASONABLE. $48 for a cut and dry. That's downright cheap to me for the quality and care I received.

And so it continues...

I went back to Judy Jetson after realizing they didn't cut my hair as short as I had wanted, and came out with the best haircut ever.  I was a little skeptical at first to go back because I didn't want to offend my stylist (I absolutely adore her), and I didn't want to be one of those pain in the a$$ customers, but I'm so glad I did.  The receptionist was super-nice about it, and so was my stylist.  Nobody tried to dissuade me from coming back a second time, and they showed me that they genuinely want to keep their clients happy!  Two thumbs up!

I'm very picky about who cuts my hair ... and loyal when I find someone good.  I just went to JJ for the first time this week and got a cut from Danielle.  I'm in.  A little pricey for a man's short cut, but worth it.  Also, one of the more "fun" haircuts I've gotten ... Danielle is a hoot.

So, I don't get my hair cut here.  I have a stylist nearby, and I love him.  I'd never think of leaving unless something changed pretty drastically.  But he doesn't offer anything fancy like the Brazilian Keratin treatment.  Judy Jetson's does, and at $300, their pricing is actually at the lower end for this type of thing.

I walked in last Wednesday after seeing a sign outside advertising the treatment and a special (they're giving away the very expensive shampoo and conditioner when you get it done) and asked the receptionist if I could get a quick consult with someone.  I waited about 10-15 minutes before Damon was free to talk to mean.  Not bad for a walk in.  He gave me probably 15 minute of his time, explaining that this isn't a relaxer, which means it doesn't contain high levels of chemicals (usually formaldehyde) and won't make my fine/thin hair totally disintegrate.  Awesome!  What it will do, however, is eliminate the frizz and reduce curl by about 85%.  Even better!

I made an appointment with Damon for two days later.

The next day, i got a call from the salon confirming my appointment and also asking if I minded being switched to Carmi.  At that point I would have preferred to stick with the same person who did my consultation, but what choice did I really have?

Carmi was sweet, though, and did a good job.  She'd booked me for 2.5 hours right before her lunch break.  In reality, the whole process took closer to 4 hours - and I have less hair than most people!  I can't imagine how long this would take on someone with a normal head of hair.

So, now I can't wash my hair for four days, which is a little gross.  No exercising or putting it back, either.  On the upside, though, Carmi offered to wash and style my hair for free Wednesday morning when I can wash it again, which is very much appreciated.  And for the next 3+ months, I shouldn't have to use a flatiron!  The less heat styling the better.

I didn't find anyone in the salon to be rude - in fact everyone I spoke to was helpful and really very nice.  And I really don't understand the complaints about pricing.  $50+ is totally normal for a good cut.

Let me preface this by saying that I have a devotion to my hairstylists that borders on religious fervor. The situation that created for me was that after I moved to Boston several years ago, I spent almost a year commuting 5 hours to my stylist from where I was living before. Even I could accept that that was pretty ridiculous.

So I asked around with some co-workers, and everyone with the best haircuts went to Josh at Judy Jetson's. At the initial consultation, I was scared. The place has the look of a Salon and Josh looks like a Stylist. It's possible I was wearing pink Crocs. I think my directions might have been something like "You can just trim it, but NO more than half an inch." Josh talked me through it, suggesting a different shape that would better suit my face and hair texture/length and off we went.

Dozens of haircuts later, I'm still a huge fan. Long, short, layered. It has all looked great. It grows out really nicely, the cuts keep their shape, and I've referred (proselytized?) many people.

The price is about (or perhaps slightly less) than what you can expect to pay in a Boston salon. Either you're a person who feels comfortable spending $50 on a haircut, or you're not. I think it's worth it. I think the other factor to really recommend Judy Jetson's is that there are a really wide variety of clients who have found their niche here: all genders, with many different tastes in hair styles.

My husband and I have been going to Feri at JJ for YEARS.  My old roommate went, my former coworker went as well.

LOVE the salon, ADORE Feri and will continue to be a loyal customer.

Their cancellation fee is indeed BS.  Thankfully I've never had a problem with it.

After 6 years of doing the Japanese straightening on my hair, I decided to bring back the curls. What can I say? I guess I was just ready for a change (and looking to give my wallet a breather). I tried to let my curls grow out as long as I could, but a few weeks ago I just reached my limit and couldn't deal with my half curly/half straight 'do any longer.

We just moved to Porter Square and I was intrigued the first time I walked by Judy Jetson because it reminded me of OxenRose, my fave salon in San Francisco. I went in for a consultation to just check the place out and once satisfied, took a deep breath and made my appointment.

I saw Danielle and she was terrific. I was worried she'd want to go too edgy or funky (especially since we needed to cut like 4 inches off!) but she really heard my concerns that I wanted to go curly but didn't want anything crazy. After an hour I walked out of the salon with an adorable curly cut. It wasn't nearly as traumatic as I feared (mainly because I'm a wimp when it comes to cutting my hair) and Danielle actually really cut my curls well (layers around my face and around the crown of my head - just like you're supposed to!). And the best news: it wasn't nearly as pricey as that awful cut I got on Newbury a few months ago! I definitely recommend Judy Jetson and especially Danielle.

Salons are hit or miss depending on what stylist you get, so if anyone has had a bad experience here, I would suggest giving JJ another shot and ask for Josh (he will not disappoint) - or, just tell the receptionist what you're looking for and ask for a recommendation - they're usually pretty good.
I have never had anything less than fabulous haircut from Josh - edgy without being over the top, great texture, and it always grows in really well - the tell tale sign of a good haircut. Well worth the two hour round-trip from the South End to get a trim.

I loved getting my hair cut here, and I love that I can see the structure of the cut when I shake my head, even a couple weeks after.  I don't know a whole lot about hair styling (most of my knowledge comes from that reality show on Bravo), but I get the idea that everyone at the salon is up on modern technique, like using razors.  I'd wanted a razor cut for so long, and this time instead of my asking for a razor cut, the stylist volunteered it.  Price was on par with other salons in Porter Square, and actually lower than some.  I also love that they have a frequent cut card.

So I just went to Judy Jetson this morning for the first time.  Ace cut my hair.  And colored it.  It was not in great shape when I went in, but now it looks fabulous.  I didn't have a specific idea of what I wanted -- only a little criteria (redder, shorter, maybe some bangs?).  I put myself entirely in Ace's hands and was thrilled with the results.  He was a patient listener to my thoughts and confident about what he was doing.  And now my unruly, unmanageable hair looks super cute  Can't recommend him enough!

Also, I wanted to counteract some of the negative reviews about the "attitude" at J.J.  Contrary to some of the other reviewers, I thought the place was friendly and inviting.  The banter between stylists was amusing and jovial, not "unwelcoming" or "rude" as other reviewers have suggested. Everyone was perfectly nice to me from the receptionist down the line -- and I'm not too terribly "hip", so I know I wasn't being judged there.

One star down because, of course, like any good thing, this adorable haircut (and color) had a price. And the price was pretty pricey.  Probably not enough to keep me from coming back -- but my wallet is feelin' the burn.

So, I have salon hopped a lot in the Cambridge/Boston area and Judy Jetson is the most recent place I have ventured to try. I went in expecting a lot of attitude, given what a lot of other reviewers have said about the staff.

I had Illana and I thought she was great. I let her know that I wanted some length off my hair but I wasn't really sure exactly what I wanted. She let me know what she was thinking and I thought it sounded great. Forty minutes, and 48 dollars after walking in, I walked out with a great haircut. A lot of reviewers complain about the price but it really is in line with most of the salons in the area. I liked the atmosphere of the salon and didn't feel out of place even though I just wanted a pretty regular haircut.

I went in looking to have my hair done after a style popular in the 50s that included victory rolls . They did an excellent job with that I didn't like the fact that they drowned me I hairspray.
The staff was really rude and they all had sticks up their asses.
I would not recommend this place, perhaps after they change their staff. There are a lot of other salons that are a lot better than this place.

Danielle is brilliant, an artist with those scissors! (She also seems like an all-around awesome person. I don't think I've ever had a better conversation with a hairdresser!)

I came in with super long, heavy hair and wanted a drastic change. I gave her a few guidelines and she crafted a haircut I've never had or would have dreamt up myself. She chopped off all those heavy inches to give me a lovely short-ish/mid-length cut with bangs that makes me feel and look like an Italian model. So much volume, so many layers! So much liberation in this shapely little masterpiece! I've gotten tons of compliments on it and would direct anyone looking for a cool cut to Judy Jetson.

This place is awesome if you're feeling adventurous, and tired of your old style. The staff seems genuinely excited about putting their personal touch to your cut--which is awesome if you're looking for a huge change, but Judy Jetson might not be for you if you're looking for something very specific or old hat. This place is funky, so go big or go to Hair Connection.

Before I begin, I would like to state that I forgot the name of the man who cut my hair, which I feel badly about, because not only can I not recommend him to others, but I'll have to look around the place and try to ID him the next time I go.

For the first half of winter, I looked like a bum.  My hair was long and unkempt, I had stopped shaving, and for the most part I didn't really care.  However, seeing my hair hit my shoulders was the last straw, and I decided that it was finally time to at least look like a normal member of society.

I felt a bit uneasy going in, because I'm much more used to a traditional barbershop setting than a trendy hair salon.  I'm also pretty bad at explaining how I want my hair, but they managed to get it perfectly.  As a matter of fact, now that I've had a few days to reflect on the haircut, I'd have to say it's the best haircut I've ever gotten.  They managed to cut it so that my hair is both acceptable for a business setting as well as nights out with the friends.  I've even gotten compliments on it, which is a first.  Even though I live about 200 miles away, I will travel to get my hair done here again.

I've been to Judy Jetson quite a few times and even though the work was inconsistent I felt compelled to stay loyal. My favorite stylist there is Linda C. and although she takes a long time to cut (as another yelper pointed out) she does a fantastic job. She gave me a cut that was really funky and not that hard to recreate on my own. She is also hilarious and will keep you entertained. So my advice is, if you go here, see her or get a personal recommendation from someone about another stylist..

In other trips to the salon I've had really inconsistent service (with other stylists) -- like not getting a smock put on me/leaving without a blow dry (?!). This is one of those places where if you aren't getting the service you want, you should try to be assertive. Leaving without a blow dry is pretty ridiculous.

3 words:  overpriced, rude, and snotty.

My touch-up hair color was okay.  I guess the guy (forgot his name--- or erased it from my memory) did a decent job but not for the price I was charged.  It was ridiculously expensive for a touch up color with no blow dry.

The people at the front desk are snotty and just plain rude.  I'm not looking for a committed relationship with any of these people... I just think that if you are in the service industry you should at least smile at the people you plan on taking large amounts of money from.

If you want a great service at a great price with a friendly staff, you will have to go elsewhere.

I was excited about making the transition from a natural blonde to a redhead, but was also appropriately nervous. After asking around and checking here, I decided that Judy Jetson would be the best place for me to take the leap. I booked an appointment with Nicole and walked in hoping for an enjoyable, relatively-stress-free encounter.

I was delighted to realize that I would not only walk out with great color and a new variation on my "I'm trying to grow it out" cut, but that I was able to enjoy a relaxing, fun couple of hours at the salon. Nicole is a delight who took the time to walk through what I wanted to do and had me laughing throughout. I was treated to cookies that were delicious (yay holidays) and enjoyed the banter flying from chair to chair.

I couldn't recommend this place enough and know that I'm already looking forward to going back soon. Nicole is one of my new favorite people and this is going to be my go-to salon destination.

So.. Let's just say, I've spent quite a lot of time at this place, and I must say: Your experience within Judy Jetson's is hit or miss, not depending on the stylists "experience" either. It really depends on the cut you want. Unfortunately, a few of the old, as well as some of the newer stylists lack proper "modern" education. Unfortunately, Judy alone can not "train" new associates. Her techniques are old and out-dated. If she concentrated on new techniques and education with her stylists, she (meaning her stylists' business) would be a lot more successful.. Lucky for her, she's a mendacious business owner.

If you're looking for an awesome colorist/stylist see Josh.

Nicole is also quite skilled but she's not nearly as polite as Josh.

If you're looking for great color/hi-lite, see Carmi. She's very patient and excellent at color correction.

If you're looking for a good "butch cut" or clipper cut see Linda K.

If you're looking for a fun sassy cut, see Danielle M.

If you're looking for a great updo or hi-lites, see Feri.

I've never seen anything bad come from David; he's great for perms, roller sets, finger waves, cuts, and colors. He's also very knowledgeable and has a lot of techniques under his belt.

If you're looking for an early appointment, see Tarley.

Linda C. does good hi-lites.

Damon and Ilana do well with both cut and color.

Hope this helped out.

I am not actually rating the haircut I got at Judy Jetson because I didn't actually get a haircut. They called me about an hour before my appointment to cancel it because they made a mistake in the booking. When I asked if anyone else was available they said the owner was, but she charges $100, twice what I was supposed to pay. When I asked if they would make an exception and lower the price as a way to be considerate in light of the booking mistake they said they wouldn't.  My experience is that any company with decent customer service makes adjustments when they make an error that affects a customer. I am getting my hair cut at another salon that does have good customer service this afternoon and will likely never return to Judy Jetson.

Carmi has cut my hair three times.  Each hair-do has turned out great and Carmi is wonderful at balancing the "I'm sick-at-cutting-hair" and "I'm sick-at-having-hilarious-conversations."  Her 15 minute summary of All Dogs Go To Heaven put me in a dream world of giggling.  I've really enjoyed the salon's vibe (hip but self-aware)  and the staff are really nice.  It's worth the $ for sure.

From their website: Appointments cancelled without 24 hours notice are subject to a cancellation fee.

Can I charge a fee? It's 2:30, I have a 3:30 appointment. I just got a call saying Ace was out sick and my appointment was cancelled. Can I charge a cancellation fee? Don't you think they knew earlier that he was "out sick"?

An update: I got a call (a week later) from Judy herself apologizing for the cancellation. She said I could have a 1/2 off hair cut. Surprisingly I hadn't had my hair cut in that week. I called to make an appointment. I made one. I then explained that Judy offered me a 1/2 price cut. All of the sudden that time wasn't available anymore. Nothing the next day, nothing the next day, nothing the next day.. nothing for weeks. I got the message loud and clear.

I really like this place. The atmosphere is fun and spa-like without trying due to the salon's great location on Mass Ave and the way that the shop is organized inside. You can get a plain cut or trim here or something really outrageous and every stylist I've tried so far has done an excellent job. My hair is pretty easy to work with overall, but they still always spend time making sure they get the cut done right and the people are great. I highly recommend Judy Jetson's; definitely worth the price.

So... I had long hair for awhile and decided I wanted change, a pixie haircut.  The first place I went to massacred my hair.  I called Judy Jetson and there was an opening with Carmi.  I figured I would give her a try.  She did an AMAZING job fixing the screw up.  I've gone back to her since and am impressed every time.  When I explain the type of cut I want, she knows exactly what I'm talking about.  Woo hoo.  Thanks Carmi.

PS: my husband also gets his hair cuts by her and is really satisfied

I went here last August after meeting three consecutive curly-haired women who had gotten a great cute from Linda C.  Being curly-haired, I decided to go for it, although I had also heard the place was a bit intimidating.

Let me start by saying that the haircut was OK.  She didn't ruin my life or anything.  But she also didn't really listen to what I wanted it (cut off several inches, take some weight off the back - instead she gave me the same haircut I already had, with some shorter bits in front and more layers).  Right after that haircut I went to Greece and being of Mediterranean descent, I have to say my hair looked excellent in that climate!  But once I got back to Boston, it poofed out and looked like a rectangle of frizz on my head.  This doesn't happen if the cut is good.

So - the cut was OK, but needed as much managing as the previous, unsatisfactory cut I had received.  But what brings the rating down here is the fact that Linda C is completely bat$^!t crazy.  She terrified me and was rude, strange, loud, crass and most importantly *not listening to me* the entire time.  When I tried to talk to her she ignored me, but when I tried to read she chided me for not entertaining her.  ??  There was a piece of hair sitting in my eye and when I went to move it she said "I know what you're thinking!  You think this haircut's going to turn out bad!"  I wasn't before but I am now, thanks.

I just felt like I was being judged the entire time I was there, when all I wanted was a haircut.  I am a travel agent and to that end always treat other service people with courtesy and humor, and was simply stunned at how unwelcoming everyone was at Judy Jetson.  I didn't expect any ass-kissing but I did expect an objective interest in my hair.

And so the search continues for someone who can cut curly hair...

Not a day goes by that I don't get a compliment on my haircut.  I got one just now, and it made me realize that I'd never Yelped my love for Tarley at Judy Jetson.

I must say, like many other reviews here, the first few times I patronized this establishment, I was not pleased.  As a matter of fact, I was traumatized: not by the decor, mind you, I could care less as long as my cut looks good.  I called and said I needed and appointment, and they assigned me to WhoeverSheWasButcher -- I've erased her name from my memory in a bout of hair PTSD, it was that bad -- who really spent a whole lot of time not listening to me.  I usually give a stylist 2 visits to work it out, and the second visit was way worse than the first.

So I poked around at a few other stylists at other places for months, 2 appointments each, with yet more disasters.  After one butcher cut too many, I finally put out word to friends that I needed a stylist, and badly.  My friend Aili told me that Tarley Taylor at Judy Jetson was the woman for the job, but that she cost a pretty penny.  At that point, I needed a Cleaner, and a pretty penny was worth spending.

That first time, I told her my goal cut long-term, and she repaired the damage so well that I almost just stuck with that cut!  Even that haircut, designed to grow out the way I wanted it to be eventually, got rave reviews from friends.  That was 3 years ago or so, and I've been devoted ever since.

I generally like the same cut every time, a short cut with pixie-esque undertones but definite edge, with small alterations here and there.  Tarley is excellent at the delicate balance between what I want and what she thinks would look good/better.  She also remembers who I am and remembers my cut/goals, which is rather awesome.  I haven't had a stylist like this since I lived in NJ, and that was forever and a day ago.

The cut is $50 (before tip), and I'm totally happy that I get what I pay for.  It's sooooo worth it.  Tarley would get 5 stars on her own, but I give the joint 4 stars for the inconsistency of quality in their stylists.

NOTE: You cannot put tips on a credit card here, so be sure to bring cash for that bit.

I came to Carmi at Judy Jetson on a mission. I had been on the T several times since moving to Boston and seen women with great cuts...and every time I asked them where they got their hair did, the answer was the same: Carmi at Judy Jetson. Clearly, this was a sign...I needed to go see if she could work her magic on my hair, too.

I'm psyched that I decided to get an appointment with Carmi. She took the time to ask me all the right questions about how I styled my hair and what products I used, and had a conversation with me about layers and my bangs, etc. before she even touched her scissors.  She asked how often I styled it, blow dried, and was very understanding when I said that I needed a haircut that didn't require a ton of maintenance as I'm typically really bad when it comes to doing anything other than turning my hair upside down to dry it.

The look she gave me wasn't drastically different from what I walked in with, but its just what I needed. My layers were too long & heavy, adding a lot of weight and a triangular look when I wore my hair down. She gave me a cute fringe bang that isn't too short, so I can still pull it back out of my face...and the back has a really nice shape to it and great volume , which is hard to do with baby-fine hair.

As for Carmi herself. She rocks. We both share a love for glue-gunning and thrifting and she gave me some awesome suggestions of places to look for some of the cool things I love (case in point, i went to Eddie's today at her reccomendation and bought an amazing tiny blue chair for my collection!) since i'm new to town. She had some great ideas for ways I could expand my newly launched feather headband business and I told her where she could look for feathers without having to give bone marrow first to pay.

From cuts to conversation, Carmi did everything just right...and I didn't have to pay an arm & a leg to leave looking (and feeling) awesome.  I will totally be back.

The place is designed like the trashiest gay bar in a cheap attempt at "character," but if you're a harajuku girl or a teenage drag queen, I suppose this place will suit you just fine.

I went in looking  for a basic man 'do with some expert texturing and layering, because a guy has every right to treat himself now and then.  I got the feeling my hairdresser knew the haircut I asked for wasn't worth the price, so she made every effort to give me the VIP treatment.  Despite not being very friendly, she was careful and methodical with my follicles, and gave me just what I asked for.  The problem is, I could've gotten the same cut for half to price.

I #$@#$ hate this place and this is a long story. The decor is kitschy fun, the location is great, the stylists are mediocre, and  the owner is a heinous bitch who made me cry once, and it's really hard to make me cry. Breaking my big toe didn't even make me cry, neither did breaking my nose for that matter. But the owner, man she turned me into a puddle of humiliation.

I went there a few years ago (while my regular stylist from Liquid was on vacation) to get a few lowlights put in my hair (I was tired of being uber blonde and wanted a couple chunky streaks to mix it up a bit) and when the stylist (whose name I cannot remember) was done, my hair was predominantly mousy brown with a few teeny tiny blonde streaks in it that barely showed. It looked like something I could've done at home with a bottle of Clairol and a cap. It was -terrible- both in execution and in how it was the complete opposite of what I had explained in excruciating detail. I'd even brought pictures. The stylist, to his credit, looked horrified when the foils came out and my hair was unveiled. He tried to throw in a few more blonde streaks afterwards, however my hair was so fried and the dye they used was so harsh that they fell out.

That's not the worst part, the worst part was the exchange I had with the owner afterwards when I tried to refuse to pay until my hair was fixed, and I swear, with no exaggeration that this is the exchange that happened (I wrote about it in some other boston hair community when it happened which is why I have it down pretty much verbatim):

ME: This totally isn't what i asked for, and I feel like i was very succinct in my description of what i wanted when I spoke to you on the phone when scheduling the appointment, which was a few low lights mixed into my already blonde hair. Now my hair is over-processed and the blonde streaks added to try to cover up the dark brown are falling out  and breaking.

HER: That is your fault for not being descriptive in what you wanted, I don't even know what "low lights" are. Pay for your hair now, and then come back in and we will fix it next week.

ME: I'd rather pay for this after it has been fixed and i am satisfied. I'm also not sure that I trust getting my hair redone here considering how bad this came out. That doesn't seem like the best way to resolve this situation.

HER: NO, your job isn't to tell me what to do, it's to sit down, shut the fuck up, and get your hair done.

ME: .....gets all teary..pays $80 and runs out the door, waits for regular stylist to come back from vacation to get it fixed.
--------------------------------------------------

Now, you tell me, what kind of owner of an establishment tells a client who is dissatisfied with their hair to "shut the fuck up" in front of other patrons in her salon?

So yeah. I've only ever very rarely seen a good cut or color come out of that place and even here I feel I'm being generous...If you want a similar funky looking place that's actually fun and in the same price range and not bastards to their clients, go to Liquid instead.

Damon gave me an awesome haircut AND he was fun, funny, and the best person to talk to for an hour while he snipped at the mess on my head. Everyone else was wicked nice, too... and the salon (whether interior is your thing or not) really does add a little bit of color to preptastic Cambridge. I'll be going back, as long as Damon is there to shoot the shit with me.

PS: My hair wasn't a mess when I left. It short and funky and not at all the bowl of curls I'd walked in with. I win.

Judy Jetson looks awesome from the outside. They stylists have multicolored hair and you see the occasional mohawk leaving. I grew up in the area, and when I was a young teenager I'd look at this place longingly and think "When I'm a grown-up, I'll have my hair cut there."

I grew up. I got my hair cut there. The stylists clearly thought they were cooler than me, and I ended up with a half-assed Rachel 'do. It was as much as end to my adolescence as when they stopped publishing Sassy.

I did not get my haircut here, my girlfriend did. but since I am the one who gets stuck looking at her ugly haircut & since *I* am the one stuck listening to her relentlessly bitch about it, I am reviewing it anyway. I wish I could give this place zero stars!

she encouraged me to write this on her behalf, starting with "tell anyone with asian hair NOT to go here!" which quickly degenerated into "if I ever see the girl who gave me this ugly haircut again I'm gonna make her eat my fist!" in other words, she was very unhappy with her haircut from judy jetsons.

now, perhaps my well-meaning yet often disaster-proned gf is partly to blame for going there unchaperoned- at least I would have been careful to give detailed instructions. I also would have counseled her not to pay the exorbitant price they charged for the massacre.
nevertheless, I was amazed by the extent to which a "professional" hair stylist could totally bungle such a basic cut. I easily could have done a better job myself!

now I am stuck looking at this mess on her head for the next few months until it grows out. its a good thing she's so pretty! of course I think she looks cute no matter what. ...but this really pushed & tested the limits of "no matter what."

I get that people and their hair are a sensitive thing, but really.  Let it flow a little.  I got a great haircut from Ace, better than I thought it could be (he did go a little off script, but it worked out really well).  Three months later (yeah, I'm po') it still looks great with very little maintenance.  This is a place where I think you have to tell them what you want and tell them about your lifestyle and they will make your hair work for you, but they aren't going to try to argue you out of a pixie cut that is going to look terrible or a color that you shouldn't have.

I used to know this girl who always had the best hair. I asked her where she got it done and she got id done by some guy here. I had heard a lot of great things about him in particular and the salon it's self.
I went to him and he spent the whole time talking to his co-workers and totally, I mean TOTALLY messed up my hair. at least 6-8 inches were cut off when they were not supposed to be. Thank god for the Brook's right across the street. I picked up about $60 worth of new products and hair accouterments to try and salvage the mess I had.
Everyone still talks about my 'worst hair cut ever'. t was Awful!

I used to love coming here, because I loved how David could do anything with my hair. And I love how when you know your stylist well enough, or rather how your stylist can know you well enough, you don't really have to say anything when you come in.  They just KNOW.

Meanwhile, David up and left me.  Felt like a breakup.  Damn him.  He moved to L.A. cause he was sick of the stupid New England weather.  Now I live across town, and even though he referred me to Nicole, I can't bring myself to schlep across town for someone I have never met.  So I'm hair stylist-less, and in mourning.  But these 5 stars are for you, David.

I have always gone to Liquid but my hairdresser is No Longer With Us (RIP) - so I've been boycotting beautification - in mourning.

But mourning can only go on so long and my eyebrows were starting to look like a certain well-known forest in Germany...and my birthday was approaching.  And I think He would have wanted me to have nice brows for my birthday.

So I wandered into Judy Jetson and had them done.  The waxist, Ellie, is bubbly and effective. They must use different wax than at Liquid because my whole face was BRIGHT red for hours after.

JJ is big and funky inside, well lit, and the waxing has a separate studio in the basement-- which is fun.  Parking is hit or miss on Mass Ave. depending on time of day.  I've never had a haircut there, but I'm so used to getting similar atmosphere and paying $25 at Liquid in the Back Bay, that I'm having trouble getting up the motivation to pay $40 for a similar place in Somerville.

I had long curly hair and wanted a pretty radical change.  I went to Nicole at Judy Jetson's and she did an awesome bob.  She totally understood my curls, even though I had never been to her before.  I'm very happy with the cut.  It cost about $50 and was worth every penny.

Judy is the Mama Queen Bee!

A very inked & pierced & crazy-colored hair friend recommended Judy Jetson to me when I first moved to Boston. I was cautious because I have curly auburn hair. When I get a haircut, I often look like a suburban crazy housewife or Bozo.  I tried a couple of salons on Newbury Street, even the "king of curls" at Mario Russo -- dreadful experiences.  I started going to Judy herself and never went anywhere else again.  She's been my mom, my sister, my friend... and boosted my confidence. She tells it like it is, which I, for one, appreciate. I don't like that smarmy fake talk that sometimes happens in salons.  Judy Jetson is the real deal!

I can second that i almost cried as i left judy jetson, it was a few years ago though....
anyway i paid around $60 for a really bad haircut, i asked the girl for long layers in front and she gave me the growing out bang look! needless to say i was really ticked off, i should have known she had cherry red hair and really bad cut herself...
