Yummy yum yum.

Excellent mexican food. I dropped the rating down from 5 stars b/c the waiter repeatedly took food away from our table before I was finished eating. A girl needs to eat! I really wanted to try everyone else's food and finish the chips and salsa but quick fingers had another plan in mind.

Oh well. Good grub. I'd like to return someday.

Mediocre food.  I heard Casa Alvarez is the spot to go, and I will be trying that next.

Skip this place and look elsewhere.

Arjun C is right: Boulder's Mexican selection is pretty minimal. Now, two places stand out in my mind, Juanitas and Effrain's.

Juanita's is a local favorite, which is broken into two sections. The front specializes in slightly uncomfortable booths and slightly expensive Mexican food, while the back specializes in strong margaritas.

The salsa here is kick ass; as they give you the hook up with chips and salsa, I always eat more of these than I should and can never finish my meal. DAMN IT!!!!

The food is good, and the margaritas are strong. The service has always been decent.

Still, this place is slightly too expensive for me to give it a 5, and the vegetarian selection is somewhat minimal. Still, this is the only place that I've seen around with vegetarian tamales, so that is definitely a plus.

Don't go for the food, but for the margaritas. Get the Ultimate Marg: freshly squeezed key lime, tequila (good stuff, can't remember the brand), and cointreau. They run about $9 but worth every penny. They also have good looking house shots with infused tequila.

You really can't beat the happy hour. Fresh chips and salsa, cheap, but delicious margaritas. Their mojitos aren't bad, either. Quite delicious, in fact.

Although I've never actually had anything fancy on their regular menu, I can attest to the tastiness of the quesadillas, queso, and the bean burritos. Very satisfying, indeed.

Juanita's  is an uber-casual, "hole-in the-wall", locals hang-out.

Pretty, good Mexican food, best within the city limits I'd say. For best in the Front Range, see the Wondervu Cafe.

The salsa is made fresh everyday and can vary quite a bit in heat, it's really good though, especially when the chips are toasty.

Personal faves are the blue corn cheese enchilada, beef and bean burritos, chile rellenos (hit and miss on these) and guac tostadas. Again, not a fish eater, but my trusted fellow diners tell me the fish tacos and bacon wrapped shrimp are scrumptious. I'm also a fan of the margarita with the alien green glow: Midori margarita. If you aren't feeling the super cheap and tasty margs, give the agave martini a try with the fruit infused tequila. So yummy!

Seating in the front is hostess managed, but seating in the back is free-for-all style. Great for meeting up with friends after work for happy hour margs and cheap eats.

"Praise the Lard," I believe is the slogan (as one of mes amigas cleverly tacked this bumper sticker on my snowboard).  But what they don't tell you is Praise the margaritas and additionally, praise the Karaoke.  In fact, the latter is surely one of the most concrete reasons to occasion it to Juan's.  I forget what night it is, but one night of the week, say Wednesday, the pro-K's are out and SHINING (!)...i must say, especially my home girl Amanda--she rocked the Led z...and her mom was there.  I'd love to tell you more, but you have to find out the hard way.  As a Mexican-restaurant-employee reviewing a fellow Mexican restaurant, I am speechless--all I've got is.."Praise the lard."

Mexican food sucks in Boulder. I never understood why cheese, meat, and tortillas are so hard to get right, but it is. Delicioso in Longmont is the best in the area.  Go to Juanita's  to drink and to eat chips and salsa. Margs are good but so sweet that I sometimes wonder if there is any liquor in them

Not bad food.  The margaritas were a bit sweet but good.  Was there for a company party so we had the back room.  Was very impressed by the wait staff since they handled all of us with a smile.  I think location is the major plus for this place being that it is on the Pearl Street mall and after an afternoon of walking and shopping, this would be a nice place to sit and enjoy an extremely casual Tex-Mex dinner.

I recommend this place if you are looking to just chill out and enjoy a few margaritas and maybe some food, but don't want to "deal" with the Rio Grande.

The chips and salsa are wonderful - as you would expect from a place with "Praise the Lard" as its motto.

The drinks are fine, but the margs cant compete with the Rio - but they are cheaper.

I had the tamales on my last visit and they were actually pretty bad - very dry.

The service was excellent.

I just moved out here from California and have been on a quest for great mexican food. Reading people's reviews on this place I decided to try it out.
Juanita's had great service but the food was just alright. I ordered a chicken enchilada which I thought was great. The beef burrito on the other hand - absolutely inedible. The meat was sooo salty. Not one to waste food, I tried my hardest to eat it but I couldn't get it down. So sad b/c I really like the other dish I ordered.
I would eat here again ... maybe the day I went was just an off day for the cooks.

Great food. Check out the "specials" -- they are always the same, think of them as "specialities". Bar seating in the back with a pool table. Not a big kid's menu (not even chicken fingers!), but they have the best french fries in Boulder.
