Juanberto's has very good Mexican food. They seem to use very fresh ingredients in their food. I love their carne asada taco combo plate and on the weekends they have menudo. It is probably the best menudo I've ever had.

Don't go here if you're just looking to snack on something.  Sure it's cheap, but the portions are freakin' HUGE.  You're asking for trouble if you order more than one dish for yourself.  I thought I wouldn't be going overboard by skipping on the combo plate with rice and beans, but the carnitas chimichanga all by itself did me in.  Top it off, I decided I had to try the pollo asado fries.  WTF was I thinkin'!!!???  The plate was loaded with fries, pollo asado, cheese, guacamole, and sour cream, and was enough to feed 4.  Why can't they have just a small orders??  It was all good and tasty...I just hated seeing alot of it go to waste.

On the downside, my GF's combo plate of a cheese enchilada and chicken taco with rice and beans was disappointingly bland.  Something so simple should have not been a watery mess.  Their salsas also left a lot to be desired.

Between a UPS store and a liquor shop in a tiny mall lies the best Mexican fast food joint in the Miramar and Mira Mesa area.  Open 24 hours a day, Juanberto's is a small place that can surprisingly seat up to 24 people.  They have an ancient Strikers 1945 arcade machine, which sometimes keeps our hero entertained while he's waiting for his order.

There are three very good reasons to come here: a dozen rolled tacos for ridiculously cheap, enormous carne asada fries, and the best pork adobada tostada north of the border.  The adobada tostada is so massively awesome that is is impossible to pick it up in its entirety without compromising the structural integrity of its toasted bread bottom.  Plastic fork and knife are recommended.

PROS:
- The best option for late night Mexican dining in the area.
- Everything made fresh when you order it.
- Stellar adobada.

CONS:
- Utensils and napkins are all kept behind the counter, so you have to ask every time you need something.

I've loved this place since the days when I lived on MCAS Miramar.  I can still remember my first experience so many years ago.  I was designated driver taking some buddies home after a night of boozing it up and we stopped in.  I was too scared to order anything because I was still a TacoBell/DelTaco guy, but when I saw what they were eating when we got to their house, I was shocked.  CarneAsada fries is just meat, cheese, and fries?!  HOLY SH--!  Needless to say, I made a stop at Juanbertos on the way home and have been eating there ever since..... even for that short period where they had a "B" in the window... though they've had the "A" back up there ever since that time years and years ago.

Bottom Line...If I were on death row, this would be where I would order my last meal from.

"Chips with Carne Asada, guacamole and sour cream".......Switch.

I'm from the bay area and I was introduced to this place by my boyfriends dad on my first trip to SD. I fell in love with their pollo asado chips since I don't eat beef. Their horchata was hella good too. Whenever I come back to visit I make sure I stop by there. My boyfriend likes Albertos (now named Alejandros) better but he always gets out voted by me, his dad and his little brother. I love the pollo asado chips, his dad loves the carne asada burrito and his lil brother loves the carne asada chips.

my second mexican food place ive ever eaten at... ohhh how i miss this place.

one day on a whim, i decided "you know what... i'm tired of having carne asada. wheres the flavor? wheres the excitement? gawdammit, i need something new! something... fresh and really really good! i need... Adobada!"

[adobada is pork... not sure how its cooked, but its got this robust red spice/sauce cooked into the meat. mmmm.]

so i order up adobada fries (AGAIN with the fries!) and i almost past out from the explosion of flavor in my mouth. OMG WHY HAVENT I THOUGHT ABOUT THIS BEFORE?! dammit i miss this place! everything was piled so high with meat cheese guacamole and sour cream that it might as well of spilled on to the floor... and then id still eat it!

whenever im in SD this is where id go first...

Located just minutes away from the Marine base gate on Miramar road and next to Juanberto's is a convenience store and on the other side a bar.

I usually get the carne asada burrito that is awesome! It has NO bean and No rice, it is almost all meat! And is guaranteed to fill you up on just one :) Another favorite is the carne asada chips or fries they are practically the same thing but uses either chips or fries. If you get fries make sure to eat them quick before they get soggy, if you get the chips they stay pretty crisp, even overnight.

With the place being 24-hours on a well-lighted street corner with a good parking quadrangle, it is my first choice for Mexican food on any late light before going home :)

Finally, I think I found the one restaurant open 24 hours in Mira Mesa!

Yeah, that pretty much made my night.
I'm always complaining about the lack of places
to eat here when it get's late ...

Fast and pretty clean, Juan Berto's carries a lot of
good looking authentic Mexican food.
If you can't decide - California Burrito all the way.

I was delighted by the amazing fresh, yummy tortillas!
I could have rolled them up and eaten them with nothing else ...
Which, I do ^__^;

But don't forget, it's 24 hours! YAY!

After the Filling Station next door, Juan berto's is what you need (the rolled tacos are a deal)! Unfortunately, I haven't been sober when I've been here.
