2 words. KARAOKE NIGHT.
I love dive bars. I love karaoke. I love good beer. JP's has all 3 on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays (you may want to call and check with them on the days in case they change). Apparently it's not so awesome on non-karaoke nights.
I went on a Thursday, got a pint of Switchback ($4.25, $8 for a Pitcher), and signed up to sing Like a Prayer by Madonna. By the end of the night, I had made a few new friends, sung with the karaoke DJ (who was the best singer in the bar by far), discovered that Raspberry Hefeweizen tastes like crystal lite & JPs makes a mean Long Island Iced tea.
They have 1 pool table, 2 foosball tables, and 1 of those game machines (i'm a fan of photo hunt). If you're looking for a dive bar, this is a good place to go. -

Great white Russians...best I've ever had. The dude would certainly abide if he came to JPs. They did have karaoke but the talent was lacking...just busted chicks making sounds more like skinning a cat then actual songs. I have to point out the bathroom situation...absolutely gross. Coming from a guy, it says something. Lacks basic amenities such as toilet paper, soap, hand drier or towels, and doors on the stall. It would be more sanitary if you popped a squat in the wilderness. Given this, I would refuse to eat there. All in all I give JP a Okay on the Avioli scale...for Damn good white Russians.

Do you ever get the feeling that you're not welcome in certain places. Well, JP's exudes this feeling. I walked in...silent stares. The bar tender couldn't be bothered to address us when we were clearly trying to order drinks. He just stared at us while cutting lemon wedges and handling his knife.
The rest of the crowd was not much better - it was rough. The drinks (Miller Lites) weren't even that cheap. The only saving grace was the video quiz machine bolted into the bar. Needless to say we finished our beers quickly and never looked back. -

This bar is huge and super dive-y. However, if you are there with the right people and in the right state-of-mind, it can be a lot of time. When my friends and I came here a few weeks ago, the place was packed and the karaoke list was insane. This place is definitely a hit with the VT college kids.

A mind-blowing collection of crazy (not in a good way) locals and people who want to prove how cool they are by hanging out with crazy locals.
It smells bad as soon as you walk inside the bar. The decor is ugly, dirty, and gross. The drinks were not much less expensive than you could get at any of the other local places so there is really no reason to go to JP's other than to watch the trainwrecks roll by.
All that said, it was a pretty fun night. But I'll never go back. -

This place is definitely a dive. That being said what red-blooded american doesn't enjoy a little divey goodness now and then? $5 mini-pitchers of PBR, pool and foosball tables as well as Big Buck. Can't go wrong! There's also karaoke on Saturday nights.
Go here, get your drunk on, then head over to Red Sq. or Rira's. Though some others have said that the staff isn't super friendly I didn't find it to be the case at all. Quick and professional all around. -

GREAT for drunken Karaoke, cheap drinks, and air hockey. LOUSY for everything else.

Not that impressed. It is a dive bar and fits the bill pretty well, but that doesnt mean it gets more stars. 2 fights broke out while i was there, they have terrible kareoke going on in the back, and the drinks are fairly priced. Interesting crew in this place.
