I had a pretty good experience with Joyce Motors.

I was able to get an appointment quickly - and they did a boatload of stuff on my VW Bug (2 new tires, new front axel, new battery, emissions inspection) - all for 700 dollars - which I thought was a pretty good deal.

They didn't try to sell me any other services and everyone I interfaced with was really nice.  They also referred me to a great European car place (since they couldn't fix the problems with my lights on the dashboard).

I will probably take my car to Drive European from here on out - but had a pleasant experience with Joyce (after an absolutely TERRIBLE experience with the Tyson's Stohlmann VW Dealer).

I am a HUGE fan of Joyce Motors.  Why?  Because they are honest.  Ridiculously honest.

About a year ago I took my car in convinced that it needed a new clutch.  They called me and said it really wasn't necessary just yet.  They made a couple of adjustments to deal with the problems I was having and sent me on my way.  They could have charged me $500+ but instead, did $90 worth of work and solved the problem.

More recently I took the car in for a squeaky pedal issue.  They diagnosed the problem but again, said it would cost a lot of money to fix (because of all the labor involved in getting at the problem). They were more than willing to do the work, but suggested that it might be better to ignore the noise since it wouldn't affect the performance of the car at all.

The work they have performed on the car has always been perfect.

I have just been consistently thrilled with their honesty.  Clearly I am not  an expert on these things and it would be so simple for them to take advantage.  But instead, they have gone out of their way to actually save me money.

The single downside to this place is they are only open Monday through Friday from 8 to 5, which makes it somewhat inconvenient, but they will take your credit card number over the phone and leave the key in the car after hours, if necessary.

I will definitely be a customer for life at this shop.

An update from my earlier review - the transmission repair was 350 something dollars.  This added to the 150 from earlier, when another shop quoted us 1100.00 of work to be done!

I love this place.

I had my car in for a 15K mile service and paid a reasonable amount compared to what a dealer would charge.  This seems like a well run place run by people who know what they are doing and are willing to provide a good service at a fair price.  I'll plan to take my car there again in the future.

I came in to have a safety inspection done before work. I called the day before to check it out. The guy who answered the phone was nice and helpful, giving me an estimate of 20 minutes for an inspection. I told him I would come in the next day.

When I came in, the girl (nice to see a female) at the desk told me that the mechanic was working on one now, and there was one person waiting, but he'd be happy to take my car after that. I asked her approximately how long she thought and she said about 30 minutes. I sat down to wait. Sure enough, the mechanic came for my keys just under 30 minutes later and finished in just under 20 minutes. I really, really appreciate service within a given time estimate! After spending over $2000 in the past few months on my heap-of-junk car, I've learned that this is a rarity. The only thing wrong with my car, he said, was a light above the back license plate needed replacing. He told me it would be about $10, which it was. Altogether the total with tax was about $28, and the prices for emissions and safety inspections were clearly posted on the wall, which I also appreciate. I will definitely go back if (or should I say, when) my car needs service.

The only reason they don't get 5 stars is because the waiting room has three chairs and is BROILING hot in the sun -- plus they had a space heater running on a 60-degree day.

Wow- no idea how this place has such a high overall rating.  My experience was far from decent at this "family run" spot.  I called to make an appointment for a muffler issue, spoke to Frank, who assured me they would look at the car for free, and I would only be charged if I did the work with them.  After the muffler estimate plus a bogus "important brake problem" I decided $700+  was way too costly and went to Midas instead (they were much better/cheaper).  So I picked up my car from Joyce, only to be informed there was a $50 fee for them to look at the car!  I informed them that "Frank" had told me it would be free, and they said he doesn't even work there!  He's an "old retired guy that comes in sometimes to answer phones and often gives out wrong information"  UMMM excuse me?  Are you kidding?  What kind of normal business would allow this?  I paid out of disgust and took my car to Midas, who fixed my  muffler problem for 30% cheaper.  They also diagnosed another truly serious issue in my car that I had been experiencing for months and had never found a mechanic who knew what the problem was.  (Including Joyce)  Oh- and the urgent brake problem Joyce diagnosed - not so serious after all

It's a little kitschy but I appreciated the mechanics all looking like extras from Grease in their matching dark blue coveralls. This garage shop is one of the old school garages. They did a car inspection in a day (you bring it in by 7:45 a.m. and pick it up after work) and they charged half the price quoted to me from another shinier dealership, for an oil change etc. The waiting room is small (four chairs) and covered in faded dusty awards and faux brown wood plastic panel wallpaper. This garage has a small packed parking area and is truly run down looking. But they will get your car to purr like a new kitten.
