A very late review but Joyce and her staff are very very professional and do an AWESOME job! I got married in Nov. 2010 and Joyce was not available for my wedding and so one of her staff members, Sarah, did my makeup and hair.
The whole process of payment/deposits were handled directly with Joyce and it was a breeze with no non-sense. I had a trial appt beforehand for my makeup and hair with Sarah and got exactly what I wanted even at the trial session.
On the day of the wedding, Sarah was on time as scheduled (I think she was actually a little bit early which was great) and made me look/feel beautiful for my special day!

Sorry for the late review, but with our wedding and then me going back to school and then the holidays, life got busy. I did end up booking Joyce because after she contacted me, I really like her and wanted to give her a chance. I booked her for myself, my bridesmaids (6) and my mother as well. My mother-in-law and my husband's family (including my 7th bridesmaid) wanted to stick to their personal stylist. Anyway, my mom and I went to the trial together. We were both doing hair and make-up. I did bring pictures and I highly suggest doing so. It's a lot easier to just show her what you want versus trying to explain it or trying to have her read your mind (and this goes for anything wedding related in my opinion). My hair and make-up was incredible. She took some pictures I had shown her and made it even more soft and romantic. My make-up was great too. Just natural enough for me to look like myself (after all, I didn't want my soon-to-be-husband wondering who the lady in the white dress walking down the aisle was), but it looked beautiful in pictures as well - something you must be aware of with wedding photos. My mother loved her style and make-up too. I ended up using the trial the day of my bachelorette party so it worked perfectly. Also, she was very receptive to feedback - if we didn't like something or wanted something a different way, she would fix it. Even on the day of the wedding, my mother and I were able to say what we liked and what we wanted tweaked a little. *The trial was at her home in Walnut, CA - I live in Valley Village, but early in the morning, the drive wasn't too bad at all.
Joyce and her team traveled to Glendale to the hotel we were staying at the day of the wedding. She arrived promptly and with her crew in tow. Her team was friendly, quick, and really listened to what my bridesmaids wanted. I did also send her pictures beforehand of what each of my bridesmaids wanted as far as their hairstyle went so she was prepared. I also had them that day for reference. Her team was also kind enough to fix up my aunt's hair-do as she was unhappy with how it was not staying (she did her hair herself earlier). I had scheduled with all my bridesmaids for their specific time and Joyce created a schedule beforehand just so we were on the same page. She was so sweet, as was her team, and it was a pleasure having her there. I can definitely say that I was not one bit worried about my hair or make-up. It stayed the whole night as did my makeup. I never really had to touch it up or fix my hair or the makeup. At the trial, she did put some lipstick on me and it looked great, but I'm just not a lipstick lady so on my wedding day, I had my favorite lip gloss and she applied it for me.
Unfortunately, the day of (and at the trial as well), the airbrush was not working, but to be honest, she used the airbrush makeup and applied it with her brush and it was fine. Also, something else to note that I was unaware of - if you are somewhere that you'd have to have them valet, you may be paying for more than one car. I would have been more prepared had I known but I was only expecting to pay $15 for valet (fee for hotel valet of one car), but there were 3 cars (she and her team came separately) so it ended up being $45. Not a huge deal, but just unexpected on a day where the unexpected is not welcomed.
Other than that, though the price may be somewhat steep, I love all my wedding pictures! I would hate to regret saving money and then having no pictures that I truly felt beautiful in or regretting that I didn't spend just a bit more (save money elsewhere, but not on your hair and makeup even it it's only for you). I also splurged on paying for my bridesmaids because I wanted their hair to all look put-together and formal (as that was our wedding - somewhat formal). Plus, I have no idea how to do my own hair let alone make it look good for a wedding. I thought the prices were pretty fair and competitive for So Cal and I will definitely use her again!
The reason I mentioned my husband's family above was that once they saw everyone else's hair-dos and once the day progressed, their hair fell and the curls uncurled - they had all wished they'd gotten their hair done with Joyce and they were unhappy with the styles from the salon they went to. **It's worth the money!
BTW - Joyce did my hair and makeup and my mother's hair and makeup. Her team did the hair for my bridesmaids. I think that is all I have to say! I will definitely be putting a call in to Joyce when I need my hair and makeup done again!!!1 Previous Review: Show all »

HIGHLY RECOMMEND Joyce Luck Style!!! :D
I actually didn't use Joyce for my wedding over a year ago purely due to price points, but that is one of my biggest regrets. I used another Asian lady to do my hair/makeup just because it was cheaper and I thought it would have about the same results. Boy, that was a huge mistake. My makeup person double booked and did a rush job and on top of that she was not a friendly person.
After learning from my mistake, I told my sister to use JLS after my friends told me about her. The way you look on your wedding day cannot be changed! Although JLS is pricey, trust me, she is worth EVERY PENNY!
Joyce is very professional and highly talented. She is also a very kind-hearted person who truly cares about your special day. After she finished with my sister's hair/makeup, she helped me magically cover up the many moles on my face! (I was the maid of honor). She totally worked her magic. We are so grateful that she was part of our special day. :) -

I love Joyce!!! I hired her for my 2009 wedding. I attended a friend's wedding two years before and Joyce was also hired as the makeup artist. It was at THAT wedding, that I knew I would hire Joyce for my big day. She made a mediocre bride look stunning.
My sister in law also hired Joyce and her team for 9 people's hair only. And I also referred her to my 3 other friends (Denise + Kim+ Judjuin) who got married last year. So Joyce is really popular amongst my group of people. Judjuin's sister liked her makeup so much that she rehired one of joyce's assistant for prom.
See Joyce almost didn't make it to my wedding bc she has hurt her back badly. Her husband called me a week before the wedding to tell me and I was devastated bc literally-a day before, my DJ cancelled out on me saying his mother passed away. My DJ would have to fly out to Boston to plan out his mother's funeral. How can I be mad at that? So while Joyce's husband called me, I was scrambling to find myself a new DJ.
But he and she reassured me that she will do her best to make it. If not, she will send out her assistant (Danny) who was also at the trial that day.
When the big day came, her team showed up first to work on my bridesmaids. An hour later, JOYCE CAME!!!! I felt so relieved to see her and felt bad for her at the same time. She did a PHENOMENAL JOB on me!!!! I felt like a princess on my big day!!! I felt flawless and I didn't mind pictures taken of me at every angle or close up.She also provided a kit for me that contained anything I needed for touch ups. SO USEFUL!
Soon after my wedding, I got pregnant and had my baby. For mothers out there, the feeling of letting yourself go is hard to reverse. My friend, Denise, had her wedding and I just felt so BLEH no matter what I did to myself. So I had to call Joyce to do my hair + makeup. I LOVED IT!!! I seriously haven't felt pretty since my wedding day and almost 2 yrs later, I felt as GORGEOUS! Joyce does magic!!!
Now beauty comes with a price. Trials run about $150 so save it for a special day. Actual wedding day for the bride for hair + makeup cost about $500. Prices go up every year so be prepared.
Not only is Joyce great at what she does, she's the KINDEST person!!! She's so easy to chat witH! -

JOYCE AND HER TEAM ARE AMAZING!!!!!
Joyce and her team are simply amazing! For my wedding, I was very particular with how I wanted my makeup and hair to look, and my bridesmaids were very picky as well. This is only "one of the most important" days in a girl's life, so it's so important to get somebody great. There was no doubt after my trial run with Joyce that she perfect for the job and I had to have her for my wedding!. Her talent for makeup and hair is unbelievable. We spent several hours and tried different make-up looks and several hair-dos and took a bunch of pictures until we found the perfect look for me! She was super easy to work with and gave me a lot of suggestions what she thought looked great on me taking into account my facial structure and feel I wanted. When the big day finally came, she took her time and made sure everything was perfect. Joyce and her team came early the day of, and she even prepared a time schedule to ensure everything went smoothly and on time. I had 7 bridesmaids and two moms who all needed hair and make-up done. This was not a problem for Joyce and her team. I found out later that Joyce also has a talent for drawing and art, which also explains why she's so talented with her makeup ability. I can't thank Joyce and her team enough for making all of us look so beautiful on my wedding day. All of my bridesmaids were so impressed with her team and how professional they were. They made sure everyone looked perfect and were happy with everything before they left. Joyce even prepped my bridesmaids how to apply touch ups for me later and spent extra time to give me tips how to treat my makeup for the rest of the day. I have referred Joyce and her team to everyone I know that is getting married! When we finally got our wedding pictures back, we got sooo many compliments on our hair and makeup, which just confirmed how great Joyce and her team are!. Thank you so much Joyce for everything! You helped make my wedding perfect! I have never felt more beautiful in my life after you were done with me!!! -

Joyce is amazing!
An on location makeup artist was important for me on my wedding day, because who wants to drive back and forth from a salon? Not only are Joyce and her assistants professional and absolutely fantastic at their jobs, but they are friendly and easy-going, totally keeping you mellow on what is usually a pretty nerve-wracking day for a lot of women.
I have single eyelids (you Asian ladies know what I'm talking about), and every other makeup artist I have ever been to (even the Asian ones!) always ended up just piling on the eye makeup, making me look like a tranny hooker or... Well... That's about it. But Joyce and her team really know what they're doing. They make you look beautiful, but you still look like you. (I mean, you DO want your husband to recognize you at the altar, right?)
She leaves you with tips for how to maintain your look, and touch-up kits (blotting sheets, tissue, powder foundation, q-tips, lipstick/gloss, hairspray, bobby pins) for you and your bridesmaids, which really came in handy throughout the day.
You can find her rates on her website, and several naysayers insisted that I was paying too much. But they couldn't argue with the results. She is totally worth every penny. Even my husband (who likes to save a buck every now and then) agreed. So shut up naysayers.
She also did the hair/makeup for a friend's wedding and several of the bridesmaids commented that they didn't even look this good on their own wedding day. That made me sad for them. -

My friend used JL for her wedding and she looked beautiful so I decided to get a trial run. I went over to her place and she spent a good 3 hours on my hair and makeup. I was not super happy with the results because I felt like it was way too natural looking. Also my hair looked a bit lopsided. I wanted a more dramatic look, however it was my fault since I didn't specify what I wanted. I just went in saying just do whatever you think is best. Lesson learned. I debated whether I should use JL for my wedding day. After talking to my friend again she convinced me that as long as I tell her exactly what I want then JL will work her magic. Of course this was my big day so I had to consider my options carefully. Since I already reserved (paid a deposit) for my wedding day, I decided go book her as my stylist and I also booked her team to work on my 5 bridesmaids. JL and her team came on time on the morning of my wedding. They spent a few hours working their magic and making us look absolutely beautiful. I was extremely happy with my results. Tip: be sure to bring in pictures of what you want your makeup and hair to look like. She can recreate anything! She is $$$ but it was worth it for my big day. My hair and makeup stayed in place all day and night long.

Joyce did the makeup for a good friend's wedding where I was a bridesmaid and she was fabulous!
It's taken me a while to get to a point where I can have someone do my makeup (some baaad experiences back in the day)...I didn't even get a makeup artist for my own wedding since I was afraid of being overly made up and not looking like myself. However, when I saw my friend's engagement shots with her makeup trial and she looked fab so I was sold!
On the wedding day, Joyce and her assistant arrived promptly, and were great to work with. They instantly put all of us at ease and were just a calming presence in general. They did the bride's hair first, put it half-up half down in curls, and she looked like a princess. The makeup was even better...we all looked like we had perfect skin, our features were enhanced, but we still looked like ourselves (just a prettier version)! She was great about giving us tips on what we can try at home, so it's like we get a free makeup lesson too!
I felt like Joyce really went above and beyond when she even provided a touchup kit (with lipstick, lavender paper, powder foundation, even a fan!) so we can help touch up the bride on her special day. It really felt like we all had the VIP treatment...I wish I had her at my own wedding!
I definitely highly recommend Joyce for anyone looking for a makeup artist for weddings and other special occasions. She's a pro and will make you look great for your special day. -

Finally! I have been graced by Joyce Luck herself. I was a bridesmaid for a friend's wedding was when I first got the pleasure of seeing her work. Her assistant worked on the BMs. Throughout the years, I would hear wonderful stories from friends who've used her service for weddings, pageants, etc. I already know she's such a sweet and informative person. I finally got engaged last Oct and had my e-pics yesterday. I went over to her place and she gave me the full hair and makeup package. I showed her what type of hair and makeup I wanted. She did a great job almost mimicking the picture I showed her. I didn't even know my thin Asian hair could do the job. The process looked so easy and under two hours but the finished results looked like it took a full day in a salon. Love it! Can't wait to see the E-pics! My fiance really liked it too. Even my super-picky Maid Of Honor could tell everything was done well. Her seal of approval justified Joyce's talents.

Joyce did my makeup for my May wedding and she was awesome! She is very patient and a perfectionist. I LOVED my hair!! She did a style where I can let it down for an evening look, but I loved it so much that I left it the way it was. Its hard to find a makeup artist that can do both hair and makeup, especially Asian makeup, so I'm really happy I found Joyce.

Joyce Luck did my makeup for my wedding in May 2009. I didn't know she was on Yelp or I would have wrote a review much earlier. I loved her! She is organized, professional, really talented and very nice. She is able to adapt her make up to a variety of tastes and styles. I had 8 bridesmaids and Joyce and her team did all of their hair and makeup as well. I thought everyone looked fabulous. Make sure you book her in advance because she's popular!
